Madmouse - Cheers for that will try it tomorrow. She seems a bit happier has just done poo size of small plum but rock hard sorry TMI!! I am wondering if it is weetabix that is bunging her up. Although she can eat quite a lot she has only had baby rice, fruit (not banana yet for obvious reasons )and a few veg. Also jars/ella's kitchen pouches but only the fruit/veg ones. And now obviously weetabix!! Might cut that out tomorrow just give pureed fruit. Problem is if I don't offer solids she won't up her fluid intake.

With all the screaming today I forgot to buy next sized teats so will try that too.

Went to see HV today and she dismissed it as totally normal. I know its normal but the more little thing is in agony

LaTrucha · 08/08/2008 19:09

I have heard that baby rice can cause constipation too. I used Boots baby porridge after our bout of constipation - it has rice with wheat and oats too, which are good for slow tummies.

madmouse · 08/08/2008 19:19

simpson i would cut out weeabix although nathan does well o a small amount with apple puree and breast milk.

i bet she will up liquids (formula/bm) if hungry.

try yogurt. nathan likes rachel's my first yogurt.

he has just eaten a third of a small jar of cottage pie! and puts the spoon in himself!

physio was good, will post more later.

simpson · 08/08/2008 19:23

Oh no don't say that LaTrucha she has had a massive bowl of it mixed with fruit for her tea!!! She did take 4ozs of milk before hand and has had some watered down juice too.

Plan of action tomorrow is just to give her pureed fruit and yogurt and see what liquids she will take. Going to do the prune/apple thing Madmouse suggested too.

Might be a hard day as have visitors throughout most of day including my 90yr old grandmother who can be difficult to say the least

Isabellasmam · 08/08/2008 19:32

try to give whatever fluids she does take warm, that was the tip my mother gave me when dd was constipated when tiny. also tummy massage helps.

lilyloo · 08/08/2008 19:45

Simpson i would say too much carbs if she having baby rice and weetabix!
Why don't you just give her fruit on it's own ?
Maybe a veggie starter and then fruit for tea.
Also make her weetabix very milky or go for porridge for a while until it settles ?

Housemum we used to get the large bottles of water cut the top off and put the tablets in there when we went away !

Well all good here. DS now finished his football 2 weeks summer school so packing him off to his grans for a few days next week. He got a trophy the size of a small house which he is v proud of!
Have now got my eye on a jumperoo for dd which finishes at 10.30 tonight on ebay currently at £20.99

Well, the 'mixed with fruit' is good...

simpson · 08/08/2008 19:53

lilyloo - she hasn't had baby rice for ages as I had run out and thought she was getting too big for it. But HV said to give it again coz I can get more milk in her that way.

For the last few days (apart from today!!)she has been having:
Breakfast: weetabix for breakfast with pureed fruit in followed by yogurt

Lunch: pureed veg

Tea: pureed fruit & maybe a yogurt if she wants it.

Bottles trying to cram in whenever she will take it.

Isabellasmam - will try heating it cheers

I am also hoping to pack DS off to his grandmothers next week for a couple of days. Will be nice to have time with Dd on my own.

lilyloo · 08/08/2008 20:00

I would have thought that giving her rice would bung her up thopugh and make her not feel like taking milk anyway ?

I owuld do the fruit am
veg at lunch
yoghurt at tea

Maybe she is having too much solids for her to stomach to digest.

I would try and cut back on portions and see how that goes , 3 cubes of fruit / veg etc.
She may up her milk then ?

OP posts:
simpson · 08/08/2008 20:10

lilyloo - I definately think she is having too much solids for her little system but she doesn't like milk grrr. Have tried giving her less solids and she just still refuses bottle and gives hunger whine. What I think Hv meant was milk that is mixed to make the rice.

I think I will do what you suggest for a couple of days to clear system out. Have gone very slowly with what i am giving her just not the amounts

Have already got plum puree and apple for tomorrow am instead of weetabix then after lunch will give madmouse's prune thing a go.

I just hate seeing her in so much pain bless her..

DS being more difficult as my time is taken up with DD.

lilyloo · 08/08/2008 20:21

i think i would concentrate more on the youghurt/cheese etc rather than the rice.

bless her hope she ok it must be awful for her !

Bought a new box of baby rice today. Still unopened though so will give it to DH's niece who is due to give birth tomorrow!! Am sure it will keep

lilyloo · 08/08/2008 20:59

Simpson tbh i hate the stuff dd2 never even tasted it after i did with dd1 it's vile
Am sure niece will love it

OP posts:
simpson · 08/08/2008 21:10

This is the thing, although it might be the baby rice that is the problem she LOVES it and gets cross I am not feeding her fast enough!!

Ds hated it though.

niece rang last night and asked if she has a girl can she call her LO the same name as DD. DH says yes fine no problem. I am hoping its a boy

Am off loading all my crap/stuff I don't need ie Gina Ford book, top and tail bowl. Can now add baby rice to list!!

Isabellasmam · 08/08/2008 21:19

how much stuff did you buy that never got used (particularly for a first). for me its been the gro-bag, baby flannels, hundreds of muslin squares, loads of baby wash products (just use toptotoe wash from bounty bag), loads of spare bottles and dummies, cheap plasticy bibs. what a waste of money will know better for next time.

justkeepswimming · 08/08/2008 21:20

crikey, i'm far behind now!

um, old question -the night after we didn't hear ds2 cos of monitor probs, i thought he might not need feeding....he woke at 11, i kept settling him until 1 when i gave in and fed him - so that was a waste of time and sleep time!!!
have just fed him since then.
he's settled at once a night the last few nights, will wait for teething, cold & cough & (latest thing) conjunctivitis to calm down, then consider some kind of sleep training...

our visit away to london was lovely thanks
in-laws were exhausted but claim they enjoyed themselves, lol.
we are all back at home now, thanks goodness, can relax and ds1 can play safely again...
(and neither dh or i have put on weight according to the wii so that's bonus after the way we've been eating !)

ds2 is dropping his demands for milk atm too, not eating huge amounts of solids but gives it all a good go. no poo probs here, best of luck to all those struggling, poor things

i have an old graco entertainer, ds2 loves it, tried to buy a newer one on ebay - never arrived and still waiting for my money back - so holding off getting anything else. but do like the look of the new ones.
and that penguin toy too
we have far too much crap many toys already tho....

oh, and ds2 fell off the bed the other day too no chance of catching him as i wasn't even in the room
he was on his back, his feet to the edge, head in the middle and when i went back in he was on the floor face down, feet to the bed, dunno how on earth he managed it!

not going to try to catch up properly, too much has gone on, but hello everyone and will keep up better now we're back home.

lilyloo · 08/08/2008 21:21

LOL didn't hardly buy anything for dd this time
So not much wastage in fact she is the 'hand me down child'

Isabellasmam · 08/08/2008 21:25

lilyloo - the benefits of experience. i was a total newbie and bought everything in mothercare.

JKS - hope ds2 is ok, that must have given you a shock.

simpson · 08/08/2008 21:28

Isabellasmam - Got loads here too Loads of bottles, dummies, bibs that tie at back (realized Velcro ones are fab), top and tail bowl, loads of cotton wool still not used, johnsons stuff (use tescos own if any), flannels etc.

Have to confess muslins a life savor here I still use them to wipe crap/puree off DD.

JKS - Glad you had a good time. But it is always nice too come home and get into own bed etc I bet Dcs had a fab time.

In a weeks time we will be in Holland Can't wait!!!

madmouse · 08/08/2008 21:33

simpson up to about 7 months 2 meals a day is enough. nathan gets something late morning/afternoon and something when dh and I are eating dinner. 3 meals a day can wait.

also, she may cry between spoonfuls but that is (according to the NHS birth to five book) because up to now food came in a nice continuous flow and now there are frustrating pauses - it does not mean that she needs vast quantities.

Nathan does not mind the pauses btw. They are usefully taken up by stuffing your bib in your mouth and so eating up what fell down and swiping everything within reach on the floor especially the food bowl if mum is not quick enough

Nathan's physio is lovely and she will come to our house every few weeks while we have a daily stretch and exercise schedule to be getting on with, including helping him to roll back to front which he nearly can do, and teaching him how to lean on his hands rather than his forearms when trying to crawl. Nathan thought it was all hilarious until the stretch hurt , will need some determination for that one. But little man himself has plenty of that and I just need to think of his future.

I have spoken to HR at work as my returning to work for four days a week plan has gone out of the water after advice from his consultant who said you have done so well getting him to meet all his milestones despite the cp if you can be around more it will benefit him. HR says I can put in a proposal for part time work or job share (job share being the onl way I can keep managing a team of lawyers and do some casework really). So will approach a very suitable team member and ask if she is interested in managing part time.

Sorry, enough waffle from me

madmouse · 08/08/2008 21:36

On things I did not need (gosh more waffle from me) - very little. One oddly designed grobag that doe snot work for ds. (love grobags in general - this one was from Holland and different brand). Other than that I listened to experienced mates and accepted advice and handmedowns gratefully

justkeepswimming · 08/08/2008 21:40

don't ditch the tie bibs just yet - those velcro ones come off in a trice when they are older
in fact the only ones i would recommend are Sillybillyz with poppers, fab.

we use muslins all the time - got ds1 attached to blue ones (blankie) cos we have loads, easy to buy more etc.) and hoping ds2 will learn to love his white ones (already does really, he snuggles into it when you put him down, cute).

yes i was shocked when i found him on the floor but he wasn't too upset so i didn't worry too much (spot the second child syndrome!)
um, really off to bed now...

Isabellasmam · 08/08/2008 21:45

yeah - spot the new mother syndrome though starting to calm down slightly. i really wanted to use the grobags but dd couldnt go into hers until she was 10lb, by the time she reached that weigt she was so used to her cellular blankets we just kept the status quo. now she hates anything on her and kicks her blankets of in her sleep.

Isabellasmam · 08/08/2008 21:46

we never used the bottle warmer we were given either. takes too long at 3am

lilyloo · 08/08/2008 21:49

Simpson just another thought how about handing her a rice cake/rusk or something so she can chew between mouthfulls that usually works with dd when she gets stressy if it's not coming quick enough ?

MM bless him !
