Is there MHC? I'll try and find it. I want scientific evidence that Cow and Gate formula boosts babies' immune system. Tosh!

I am having dress ishoos. The wedding I'm going to is not until August, but it is super swanky, so I want to get it right. All the sales seem to have started, but all the dresses I am finding are really quite dull. I quite like this, but they haven't got my size. I really don't want black and white, it is very boring. Help!

NattyEcoWarriorPrincess · 19/06/2008 19:07

hello everyone

HollyPutTheKettleOn · 19/06/2008 19:10

Hi natty! How are you? Is everything ok with your dh?

Sputnik · 19/06/2008 19:12

Afternoon all.

Happy Birthday Baggins

LOL at Room 101 Foxy
Holly, you just made croissants, if that isn't alphamummy I don't know what is.

Poor Baby Sputnik is now on abs for an ear infection, hopefully they will kick in soon, as he's not his happy self and he hasn't really eaten much for ages, the doc weighed him and he had lost 1/2 a kg. His charming of local supermarket staff paid off today though as he had a inconsoable crying fit there, they were really lovely and packed my bags at the checkout while I held him. Then a passing mum pushed my trolley out to the car park. People are nice sometimes

Sputnik · 19/06/2008 19:15

Hi Natty

NattyEcoWarriorPrincess · 19/06/2008 19:35

so im in denial.. who cares im happy!

lol they are arnt they
i must admit the advert annoys me slightly as its is actually oneof the most under advertised formulas aptimal is the "best" nutrionally so it boggles the mind how they can all be the "best"
and as forcomparing to breast milk... well that is what they all aspire to..

lackaDAISYcal · 19/06/2008 19:49

Natty, fingers crossed for DH. Part of me always errs on the "No news is good news" side of the argument. Surely if there was something serious you would've heard by now! Fingers crossed for you both on the ttc front!

Lol mhc, we'd never have guessed you were procrastinating

Get writing that essay missus.....and no coming up for MN air until you've done at least another 500 words

oooh holly, we might both get twin buggies then

DH is home.....yay, but he is surveying the carnage with a sceptical eye. I told him I refuse to pick all the toys and books off the floor as it'll be like this again tomorrow within half an hour of tornado baby getting up!

fucking eastenders got me crying again

lackaDAISYcal · 19/06/2008 19:50

It's quite sad tonight isn't it? Is the baby OK? and what happened to the mad psycho woman? I missed it the other night!

HollyPutTheKettleOn · 19/06/2008 19:58

Good to hear you are happy natty and great that you are looking forward! How exciting! Do keep us posted!

Hi Sputnik. Hope the abs work. Poor little man . Half a kilo is quite a bit isn't it?

I know mhc, I get all "now here's the science part" when I talk about bfing. I did it in my peer supporter course last week and every looked at me like this ! Well they were talking shit! The lady running the course asked us to think of things we should and shouldn't eat when bfing. I wrote nothing on my piece of paper! Well I was right, surely. I started going on about people in areas of famine being able to bf very successfully as you do not need extra food or special food to produce milk. You just do, it's what your body does. They just ignored me and started talking about drinking milk (do cows drink milk? No) and eating carbs! Then the peanut ishoo came up. They all said no don't eat them and I said well ackcherleee there is new research about babies being exposed to nuts before birth and whilst bfing being less likely to develop allergies. They ignored me there too. I think I'll keep my gob shut this week!

NattyEcoWarriorPrincess · 19/06/2008 19:58

mad psycho woman dead.. everyone else ok! hurrah!

HollyPutTheKettleOn · 19/06/2008 20:01

I feel like that daisy. What is the point in tidying up? There is no point at all. It'll be tidy for 10 minutes at the most. I spend 2 hours tidying downstairs yesterday and by 9 this morning it was probably even worse than it was before! I am giving up until ds is 3!

NattyEcoWarriorPrincess · 19/06/2008 20:02

pmsl holly

we did get some good news(depends on your veiw, good for his sake not being labeled a problem child) seems thomas might be autisic and has been referred by my health visitor.
im relieved cos i have been saying for months something iswrong, and been brushed off every time.

HollyPutTheKettleOn · 19/06/2008 20:05

Really natty? That's sort of good news (though not really), but at least you can now deal with it and will get some help. Hope it works out for you.

NattyEcoWarriorPrincess · 19/06/2008 20:07

thats what i mean holly, its not good news i wish it was just a stage, but if it is more than that it will help him in the long run, andstop ppl thinking he is a spoilt brat, when i know he isnt cos i try so hard not to spoil him and to bring him up well

lackaDAISYcal · 19/06/2008 20:09

natty, at least with a DX you can move forward and get help for his behaviour. sorry to hear about it though

sputnik...didn't mean to ignore you . I hope baby sputnik feels better soon.

I blame the weather being so variable for all the bugs. It's almost like it never got cold enough over the winter to kill them off so they are around with a vengeance this spring....like midges and mozzies!

Looks like things are still pretty crap for trace . she deserves a break...big time!]]

Holly, I felt a bit gobby on my course as well, but at least the BFC was agreeing with the things I said. surely your BFC should have been backing you up on these things? or was she saying that you need to drink milk as well
h

OP posts:
HollyPutTheKettleOn · 19/06/2008 20:14

The course is run by a MW not a BFC, so tbh I'm a bit about some of the things she says! I think I'm going to finish the course and see how it goes and then look into becoming a BFC. I am seriously thinking about training to become a nurse leading on to becoming a health visitor.

NattyEcoWarriorPrincess · 19/06/2008 20:19

so that means you lot can help me thru bf? i would appreciate it, baby will be due in march if i get pregnant now...
had a terrible time with ellen and i really wantto give the bf a gothis time.. in fact i have just sold allmy bottles andsterilser so i cant give in so easily!

lackaDAISYcal · 19/06/2008 20:19

go for it holly; at least you would have a modicum of sense and know what you were talking about. I thought about nursing/midwifery, but with DH away and three children it would be impossible for me to do

Our course was run through the Association of Breastfeeding Mothers and the BFC was fantastic. I nearly asked her if she was a MNer

OP posts:
lackaDAISYcal · 19/06/2008 20:21

of course we'd help Natty ..and if we couldn't point you in the right direction of a local counsellor.

holly, can we do some vicarious dress shopping for you? I saw some lovely stuff in town yesterday

OP posts:
Bumperlicious · 19/06/2008 20:26

Natty, sorry to hear about DS, but at least you can get proper help for him. Hope things with DH are ok, and good luck with TTC!

Holly, that's outrageous! At my peer supporter training the BFC bought in a bag full of groceries and we all talked about the things people think about them when you bf but that aren't actually true. She also did this really good experiment to demonstrate while babies should be tummy to mummy and nipple to the roof of the mouth. We had frubes (tubes of fromage frais and tried to suck them with our heads turned round, our head down on our chest and with the frube just pointing straight into our mouth and the correct way pointing to the roof of our mouth head straight forward.

MHC good luck with your essay.

No news on testing for me yet. Fear I may have been too slow.

Sputnik, poor DS, hope he (and you) are ok.

Fury, if you are lurking, hope you are ok too

HollyPutTheKettleOn · 19/06/2008 20:26

I think a lot of people on MN find the support here to be invaluable to being able to bf succesfully natty. We will all be here for you with advice and encouragement...you just need to get pg now !!

I hope I would talk sense daisy...I just need to get over my "judgeyness" first! I can be really quite judgey sometimes, not good for an HV! If I did it I wouldn't start until ds was at school. I wouldn't want to do late nights and early mornings and have to worry about childcare etc.
