Cheers Susie I guess I am going to give her chip shaped things and see how she copes.

gingeme · 01/07/2008 12:07

No Susie I didn't rock. I sat with the feeding pillow on my lap with George on it. He sucked like a maniac for a few seconds then you count 'one banana, two banana etc till they more or less have stopped sucking then pop the nipple, dummy, bottle out of their mouth then pop them into their cot. The name of the game is gently bently Do this as many times as is neeeded till they stop crying for the thing they were sucking on and learn to sleep without it. Did take George about 2 and a half weeks though but he does settle lovely for every nap/sleep now because og it. I always used to feed Edward to sleep or cuddle him for naps. Mind you hes never had trouble setteling either.
Not sure about the age of Fromage Frais tbh. Because its got cows milk in it. But it says great for weaning so I thought I'd give it a try and it doesn't seem to have had any ill efect on George. Not sure if he is older than your dd lillyloo. Hes 6 months on the 10th. Bloody hell where did that time go?

Oh what happened there?

simpson · 01/07/2008 12:14

Gingeme - think fromage frais is from 6 mths. But DS had sore throat at 5 mths and was told to give him fromage frais then so sure George will be ok!!!

gingeme · 01/07/2008 12:17

Ah right. He just loves it. Well thankfully hes loved everything so far

lilyloo · 01/07/2008 12:30

Gingeme well it's only by 8 days then seemed much longer when i was waiting for her to put in an appearance
Think it may be 6 mths just checked some i have in the fridge but it doesn't say.

The problem i have is that she will settle on her own for naps, going to bed so not sure that she needs the nipple tbh to get to sleep The mums at dd's pre school said they would up her solids esp after seeing her ginormous thighs
So think i may do some banana after she wakes up from sleep just cut into chunks and see how she goes.

Simpson dd does full turns in her cot too but she is rolling over as well. Maybe she didn't want anyone to see her first milestone

Banana sounds good. Hope she enjpys it.
Might try George with a rusk. Will expect it to be messy
Alot of people say George is big for his age simpson but then I don't do small babys.

susiemj · 01/07/2008 12:45

Gingeme - I thikn I read in Anabel Karmel that it's just that cow's milk shouldn't be their main milk until after a year.

simpson · 01/07/2008 13:04

Just gone upstairs to loo to find DS has put his toilet seat on loo my himself complete with step under the seat. I think he might be ready for toilet training!!!

lilyloo · 01/07/2008 13:36

LOL Simpson
well the banana went down well
but have to say it was a mixture of me mashing some up and spoon feeding her and her gumming some lumps of it so not sure what that called
B ut she is happy now rolling about on the carpet whilst i do some ironing!

OP posts:
simpson · 01/07/2008 13:57

lilyloo - glad banana went down well!! DD has been asleep for over 2 hrs think I had best wake her or could be in for a bad night!!

simpson · 01/07/2008 14:15

Why is it when you have more than 1 DC they seem to poo at the same time??!!

gingeme · 01/07/2008 14:53

Why wake her? As it also says in the sleep book. Never wake a sleepring baby!
George chomped his way through a whole rusk. Oh boy what a mess. He thoroughly enjoyed it. So did his chair, clothes, hands and hair He only gagged once.
h es fast asleep i his chair now. Tuckered out after all that eating

simpson · 01/07/2008 15:19

Gingeme - did not have to in the end she woke at 2. Just thought if she slept more in day she would be more awake at night. DS is walking around with a tea towel pretending to be iggle piggle!!

justkeepswimming · 01/07/2008 16:11

have managed to get a 45min kip - feel like body & brain are begging for MORE!!!

ds2 asleep on my lap and we have to go to collect ds1 now....

Kelix · 01/07/2008 16:25

My DD has little starts fromage frais about once every 2 days. She loves them and has never had any reaction to them. She is 24 weeks today

lilyloo - sounds lie we have the same technique with banana feeding! Not sure of a name for it tho

susiemj · 01/07/2008 16:37

Gingeme and other wonderers about cow's milk - you're going to love this. I was at HV today so I decided to ask. Cue shocked reaction from Hv and a firm 'no'. I then showed her the leaflet on weaning that SHE had given me and told me to follow two weeks ago, produced by the NHS, which says that yogurts and cheese are fine from 6 months. Can you believe it? How are we supposed to have confidence in this!

Anyway bought some Petit Filou on the way home

Not sure what I'm going to do with it though. I'm not sure about the sugar TBH. I was going to be purer than pure. I think that's probably another one shortly to go out of the window

simpson · 01/07/2008 16:57

Susiemj - my HV has told me cows milk from 6 mths in breakfast and cooking etc but not for drinking. Having said that alot of other stuff she has said is total crap so don't know if she is trustworthy!! I buy tescos own fromage frais much cheaper. Cheapskate mum!!

Managed to keep DS in this evening before tea as don't want repetition of yesterday. He is quite happy watching lazy town!!Also going to have to bath DD tonight as not had bath for 4 days (lazy mummy!!)

LuckySalem · 01/07/2008 17:06

Hi all,

Re: milk - I am sure they are allowed things that are cooked or made from milk from 6 months (according to my Hipp calendar) but they can't drink soley milk till 12months. Hope that makes sense.

DD is being a pain today - she is soo wingey but I don't know why. I've fed her, changed her, gave her a drink, gave her puree, not too hot/too cold, she doesn't want a cuddle but doesn't want to be put down! Now i've finally got her to sleep which I'm hoping is the problem.

simpson · 01/07/2008 17:19

Lucky - it might be the heat. DD has not wanted to be held at all today which is very unlike her. She has slept a lot too. Hoping bath will cool her down though.

Kelix · 01/07/2008 17:27

DD bin a little off today too, just put her down for a nap in hope that will perk her up a bit
Must be the weather, either that or our children know something we dont

simpson · 01/07/2008 17:31

kelix - I am hoping to off load DD to bed by 6. Going to bath her now that always tires her out as she is showing NO signs of being tired!!All the sleep she had in the day coming to haunt me!!

madmouse · 01/07/2008 17:58

yippee back online! promptly bid for a door bouncer on ebay, think nathan will love it.

He is going soooo fast, it is giving us so much hope that his brain damaged won't mean much. Friends bought him a tumbler penguin from fisher price that shouts weehee and giggles when batted. Took nathan all of five minutes to work out how to kick it with his legs to get the sound out , he can also stand just holding my hands, almost sits and is desperate to crawl, meaning he does move across the floor, slowly, screaming all the way. And talks talks talks

I am not going to blw, i am planning to do it the old fashioned way but to introduce lumps asap. nathan had a taste of my vanilla yogurt last night and it made him smile. he is only 5 months today though, so for now it is a game, just seeing what happens when I give him something. With blw I am unsure not so much about choking (nathan has an excellent gag reflex, but about them being able to eat the right foods, how about leafy vegetables? And hot meals with meat etc?

It looks like lots of you have sleeping problems? Nathan is waking between 11-12 and 3-5, so not bad. Last night however at 3am his breathing alarm went off, cue me in total panic, dh in forced calm and the light switch revealing a slowly waking baby, stretching as if to say what is this? he fed immediately and was obviously fine, but very warm so may have been breathing shallowly or it was just an error? brought back bad memories

is it warm everywhere? nathan is in tshirt and shorts.

justkeepswimming · 01/07/2008 18:17

mm - my dh fitted once when v ill - i was the only one with him & it scared my soooo much. it wasn't too serious as it turned out - he was dehydrated and 24hrs in hosp sorted him out. but whenever he vaguely does anything that even possibly resembles fitting i freak
and that was nearly 4 yrs ago (on our honeymoon!) so i totally get you
oh and nathan is far more advanced than henry! h does like to his sit-ups but no rolling or sitting, etc.

hot here too. meant to be meeting old school friends in green park in london but weather forecast is heavy rain . not sure what 4 adults and 5 kids are going to do in green park in the rain????

will stay with dh in london tomorrow night then hopefully get him to leave work early and come home with us on thurs.

now MIL has gone home we are back on cbeebies

sorry not been good on personals, brain is fried!
