Lucky - in the early days after DD was born, DH had 3 weeks off work and we used to take it in turns to get up with LO throughout the night, one night I was sooo tired and when DD squeaked I told DH it was his turn (no clock in bedroom) knowing it should have been mine!! DH was up with her for 2 hrs!! Had lovely sleep though!! Only confessed this to him last week!

Madmouse - hope move ok.

Naetha · 13/06/2008 23:01

Madmouse - I used to be a World of Warcraft widow as well!! Then I started playing myself! We both played it for a while, then realised there was much more to life than the commitment that it required. 6 months later we were having a baby - it's amazing what happens when you stop playing computer games for a while!! We still play other games (Age of Conan at the moment - I'm such a geek!) but we only ever play together, and only after the gremlin is in bed. It's so easy when you're heavily involved in a game like that to lose perspective, especially when you are under considerable peer pressure (for example if you're a healer class) to play more and more. Often the other people who play don't have responsibilities and can play for 8 hours solid without (immediate) consequence. Personally though I don't think it's healthy! Everything in moderation eh

I've been trying to "teach" Ben to fall asleep by himself for about two months now, and it's been working to some extent. He's got into a routine with his daytime naps, and rarely takes more than half an hour to fall asleep - it's just sometimes he won't give in! I'm currently having this problem with him at the moment.

Ah well, DH should be home by now but he's not...I'm going to have to go to bed though - absolutely knackered. I just wish he'd call me to let me know how things are going! Haven't spoken to him since 4pm this afternoon, although I knew he'd have to work late.

LuckySalem · 13/06/2008 23:08

Naetha - I posted but don't know if it'll help

Housemum · 13/06/2008 23:47

What was it with last night?? 2 people at the Coffee & Chat group this morning said they'd had a bad night, and Amelie was awake at 11.30 and then every hour after that until i got up at 7. Think it is teething with her as she was like this before each of the other 2 came through.

Regarding men, DH is very good, and does do his share - the only thing is that he needs to be asked, and he expects to be noticed - I think that's a man thing. If I've done 2 overflowing baskets of ironing, nothing would be said. If he does a few shirts, I'm sure he's miffed if I don't say anything. And when I used to work in the evenings with DD2, I'd come back at 11.30, then have to wash the bottles and put the steriliser on - and she did sleep through before I went back to work so he had no excuse! Still like that - if I leave him at home with the girls, he can do either childcare or housework but not both!

lilyloo · 14/06/2008 09:25

So glad that it's just not me i am soooo tired we had an even worse night last night i went to bed early at 9 and fee worse as i just had to get up more. Thinkk it was 7 times between 7 and 6 am too tired for personals but can extend sympathy for all those who are having trouble with sleep too !
It must be teething ?????????????

simpson · 14/06/2008 11:54

Sorry to hear that some people are having bad nights. Must be the teeth!

Filly - hope your evening out was good.

DD was VERY good last night (sorry!!) slept from 6.30pm till 8am!! BUT we have paid for it today. It is like she is grumpy from having too much sleep. Have had to carry her around all morning and got nothing done, house a mess. Already have a headache from all the wingeing.

madmouse · 14/06/2008 12:59

someone tell Nathan it is time for a nap. And it is not nice to take revenge for perceived lack of attention by having long long long sucks. I have boxes to pack fgs!

susiemj · 14/06/2008 13:32

whoever tells Nathan to sleep, can you tell Sabela too? She slept until 9am this morning - heaven - but has only been down for 10 minutes since. I get her n sleepy mode, then she breaks out in smiles and giggles. Very cute but it'll all end in tears!

simpson · 14/06/2008 18:12

Forgot to mention on earlier post that although DD slept well, DS woke at 4.00am and proceeded to sing EVERY nursery rhyme that he knows VERY loudly. Me and DH ended up in the front room him on the floor with double duvet wrapped round him and me with spare duvet on sofa!! How DD slept through it I will never know. DS been a pain today coz he is tired. Cannot wait till his bedtime!! DH working late not back till 11pm so have bought myself nice steak, new potatoes & veg. Will also have nice glass/bottle of red!!

nicky6 · 14/06/2008 18:29

on dh front have to say mine is a little treasure - was brought up that you dont rely on a woman to look after you and consequently is definitely tidier than me - actually his extreme tidiness has been cause of rows in the past - but my mum said there are much worse things than a man that is tidy so dont complain he can and does do everything with charlie that i do - only thing that annoys me really is when he is watching football and kinda forgets that not really good for her to sit and watch sport with him

yes still on for meet on 24th at 11am -
must go

lilyloo · 14/06/2008 20:06

Thank god for peace and a nice glass of rose !
Well ds has been bad tempered all day due to staying up late to watch football, dd1 has been her usual 3 year old argumentative self and dd2 has been crying , moaning, winging virtually all day due to lack of sleep but refused to have a decent nap!
To top it all off i needed some shopping and had fed dd so set off to supermarket and to take ds to his swimming lesson and got stuck in loads of traffic as some drunken idiot was throwing stuff of a roof and threatening to jump! Hence loads of police , ambulance and fire engines and an hour and a half later i return home with ds missing his lesson no shopping and dd2 still screaming
What a day !
Have just sat down and spoken my first civil word with dp today !

Feeling a bit more human today, DH took charge so I managed to catch up on a bit of sleep. Back to that story about my interview, after the interview ended, and DH came to pick me up with Tana, I brought her into the office to say hello to everyone. While I was there, the people interviewing me came out of the meeting room and everyone was coo-ing over her. Of course it was all to omuch and she ended up clinging onto me and crying her eyes out! That ended up making her throw up,and of course had no muslin when I needed it, so mad scramble from colleagues for tissue, and had to clean her and myself up with two scraps of tissue. . My lovely suit jacket was nicely decorated with baby sick. And it was at this point that my boss, and his boss decided to tell me they'd like me to go back in the interview room for a quick chat. Sat down, and Tana took one look at my boss and started screaming again. And while I was trying to shush her, and not succeeding, they told me I'd got the job .

Of course, they could have just rung me at home half an hour later!

Anyway I was thrilled.....until on my way out of the building, my boss said 'you're stronger in some areas than others...but anyway we'll talk about that another time'.q Totally ruined my high. He then folowed it up with an email saying something about how its difficult in an interview when 'you know that I know what you know'. .

Plus, now they want me to do my keeping in touch days in my new role, BUT pay me at my old rate. .

OK, enough ranting...

Hope we all sleep better tonight!

Fragolina · 14/06/2008 20:08

xpost lilyloo. Sounds like a nightmare of a day - deep breath, put your feet up and enjoy a glass of wine

justkeepswimming · 14/06/2008 20:30

fragolina - i know how you feel re sleep being worse than the beginning, i felt like that when ds2 went through his growth spurt at 16wks it's awful, but...it will pass...
congrats on the job
good timing on the puke tana! don't get what your boss meant by all that?

madmouse - the house sounds big & practical i guess. once you've been in it a while you'll feel cosier. have you got the furniture to fill it?? why only 3.5yrs? is that the 'posting'? then where or don't you know? sorry for being so nosy

lilyloo - snap, having a glass of rose here too
not a good day for you, hope the wine does its job any teeth through??

simpson - we will have to compare BLW notes as we go. so far i have let ds2 have a 'gum' of watermelon, pear and today carrot. he makes such a funny face when he first tastes them! anyway he's not actually eating anything but he was quite able to grab the carrot and shove it in his mouth and have a good go at it. not really counting myself as having 'started' yet, holding out for as long as we can...tho dh says we have started as he has had solid food in his mouth, what do you think?
how's the red going down?

naetha - never tried the gaming thing myself but i know i find MN addictive so would be a nightmare if i got into it! don't think i have much to add to the dummy thing tho having lots of dummies sounds good?

nicky - i have a friend with a dh like yours re tidying, he used to be in the services, don't know if it's linked? but your mum is right! what's wrong with footie? my ds1 loves watching sport, tho i have actually drawn the line at rugby as i worry that he might try to copy it on his friends!!

right, taking so long to do this post, i'm sure i'll have cross posted with lots of you.
dh out tonight, so i'm sat here with my glass of rose watching blue lagoon she's just got pg!
off to bed as soon as it's over, got dh's beer wrapped up (with some pestering help from ds1) and multiple cards (from various groups/nursery/etc) hidden upstairs, hope dh not too late back tonight so he's not feeling too rough tomorrow!

nite all

simpson · 14/06/2008 20:41

JKS - am watching blue lagoon too!! Red going down v well about to have 2nd glass!! DD had a lick of a carrot stick today!! Don't know if that counts as weaning!!

justkeepswimming · 14/06/2008 20:42

we are living parallel lives

lilyloo · 14/06/2008 20:46

madmouse · 14/06/2008 20:53

oh well managed to do a lot of packing today and are about on schedule. But it looks like just as always they have not given us enough boxes I told dh this is the last time we are self-packing! So fill what we can, maybe buy some boxes from big yellow and ring them first thing Monday.

Nathan is struggling with the whole thing, he is used to so much attention and finds it rather strange that we are so busy. Tried everything to keep him occupied

jks, I am nosy too . This is a training post (curacy). After this dh will have to find a job somewhere. No idea where . Feel like a snail sometimes, carrying my house on my back (and slow and tired too
It is our 6th move in 11 years.

simpson · 14/06/2008 21:08

Forgot to say sorry you have had such a crap day lily.

lilyloo · 15/06/2008 08:30

Well the wine worked either i didn't hear her or she only woke twice last night!
She is still in bed now having a fathers day lie in with dp!
I went to bed later to avoid getting up as much but feel much better have a few solid hours of sleep , fingers crossed we 'turning a corner'!

OP posts:
justkeepswimming · 15/06/2008 09:12

hey lily - dp still sleeping? glad you had a better night.
ds2 gone down for his nap and dh still asleep, he did get up to make tea this morning but i left him to go back to sleep hours ago....have done breakfast, 3 episodes of fireman sam and now halfway through nemo, just keep swimming, just keep swimming....

the sun is shining so think i shd sneak upstairs to get dressed, get ds1 dressed then go out to get papers....

madmouse - hope you have more fun packing today

back later, happy father's day to all dads

gingeme · 15/06/2008 12:10

Morning ladies. Sorry havn't realy read through everyones posts.
Hope your all fine.
Lo still totaly full of snot but he has been sleeping better and taking longer naps in the day too
Dh starts his 2 week holiday today and what a better day to start it but Fathers Day.
Off to sil's this afternoon for a BBQ.

HAPPY FATHERS DAY

justkeepswimming · 15/06/2008 13:40

hey gingeme - that's a great start to his hols! bet you've got loads of exciting things planned?

meant to say yesterday, we went out (after ds1 finally woke from nap at 3pm) to this charity day so that ds1 could see a fire engine, we get there, see engine & firemen are there, park, as we walk to the car park, the engine drives out and disappears
what bad timing!
ds1 was still pretty excited having seen it from the car but i was soooo gutted for him, and for us not seeing his face light up. he was even going to be able to TOUCH a fire engine!
so have now got all the open day dates in my diary so we don't miss out again!

ds1 refusing to nap today, ds2 fallen asleep on his activity mat (aw cute!) got friends coming round in a bit so no nap for me today
going to try and do sunday crossword before visitors arrive

simpson · 15/06/2008 14:46

Glad everyone enjoying Fathers Day. And the weather is nice too what a bonus!! I have just cooked sunday roast which took an hour and a half to cook and about 10 mins to eat!! My brother has come round today to see the DCs. He is currently reading Dear Zoo to DS and DD kicking on her mat.

susiemj · 15/06/2008 15:18

Hi all,
congratulations on the job Fragolina! Well done you!

Sorry DSs still snotty Gingeme

Madmouse - I used to be a freuquent mover too. Now I'm in my own house I don't want to go anywhere! DH still has itchy feet though. Hope it goes smoothly.

Nicky - I'm quite happy when DH sits with Sabela to watch sport. She prefers 'green' sports - football and Stella Artois Tennis - to 'red' sports - Roland Garros

JKS - still swimming?

Lily - which way has the pendulum swung today? towards the peaceful sid eI hope.

Simpson - LOL at the carrot! I was very temoted to do the same thing with an apple the other day but it wasn't a very nice apple, so I didn't... T'would be a pity.

Well, Sabela did not sleep for more than 20 minutes in the whole day yesterday, which of course led to a meltdown at bathtime. Poor DH! IT's usually his thing. She woke twice in the night too. I agree with Fragolina [I think it was]. This is an exhausting time too! ALthough I do remember dimly how BLOODY KNACKERED I was at first and I don't think I'm that tired. I find it difficult that she wakes at different times in the night or sometimes not at all. Body clock is up the swanny! I sometimes feel worst when she sleeps all night!

And on the 'men in our lives' debate ... I can say with my hand on my heart this father's day that I am blessed. He's redoing the garden [making flowerbeds, taking up concrete, laying grass] for me as a birthday present. Awwwwww!
