Couldn't think of anything contraversial!

DCs are back, we went to stay with friends on the way back from collecting them so they are absolutely shattered.

Ds2 has worn 2 of his new nappies, a stuffable with crocodiles on and he's in a minki with a ME wrap for bed. It's very exciting .

Lennied and AQ, where do you get your nappies from? I don't particularly want to spend ££££ on brand new ones when it's only for a few months (hopefully).

accessorizequeen · 27/07/2008 20:14

Life begins anew, oli
I now mainly buy nappies 2nd hand from mumsnetters or was thinking about the usednappycompany. But did order some recently from babykind, they're very good & efficient. Kittykins have an excellent website and big range. It really depends what you're after - ME wraps avail.2nd hand quite easily, you don't see that many swaddlebees on here. Sandies seem to be getting quite popular so I haven't seen any larges lately (ds2 so comfy in them today with the heat). I've bought my pockets largely new as haven't seen a great choice 2nd hand (I use wonderoos a lot & they're still 3 for 2 at present so a bargain!).

LenniEd · 27/07/2008 20:22

Oli! I just knew it! Slippery slope! If only I could get DH addicted! Minkis are lovely for bed - my ME wraps are too small for them now though so need to get some XL ones to use them. Tried last night but was stuffing the nappy back in at the top and it kept springing back out!

Parents lounge have a board which I have bought off, there are a few on here sometimes but you have to have the CAT thing set up which I don't or get lucky on the nappies topic! I have also heard good things about the bumfluff site but haven't tried there myself yet. There was a useful thread about this once here it is by the nappy afficionados (never know how to spell that!)

LenniEd · 27/07/2008 20:27

What are the wonderoos like AQ? I would like to try pockets more - we used a swaddlebees pocket for a while but it always seemed really bulky compared to the shaped nappies. I don't like bulky during the day so am not sure I'd like them. Sandys are wonderful - you should have BPs/EVs newborn nappies before me since you'll be out of them before I need them.

Olihan · 27/07/2008 20:49

Oh hell. Just been on the Bumfluff site and accidentally linked to the WeeNotions pages. Just how cute are their outers for the pockets? The lion, the giraffe, the pale blue with the monsters............

accessorizequeen · 27/07/2008 21:04

I have a weenotions wrap in giraffe, it is d'lovely (but I think he's about to grow out of xl!). really soft gorgeous strokeable. Anyway.

I have bought from bumfluff, she does some things that no-one else does & nice to have personal service from flamesparrow!

it is a bit of a slippery slope, I really ought to have stuck with bamboo and ME wraps!

Lennied, I think wonderoos are fab (although I tend not to use much when really hot like now), they've fitted ds2 really well since I bought them, easy to carry round (I only use wonderoos and bumgenius for nursery) and dry in a flash. I do find the GAD inserts much slimmer & quicker to dry than the wonderfulls though. Most people seem to think they're pretty bombproof although never buy the wonderworks ones (the newer hip hip baby ones are made in the uk apparently).

MARGOsBeenPlayingWithMyNooNoo · 27/07/2008 21:24

Oli - lol @ Oh hell. Just been on the Bumfluff site

It brings many images into my mind. none of which include nappies [mind-in-gutter emoticon]

Margo, you should meet up with my dh, I think you'd get on!

AQ/Lennied, I have a dimwit question about the nappies. I have 2 berryplush, a wonderoos and 2 swaddlebees (an AIO and a velour) for tomorrow. Do I have to put any other liner in them (other than the stffed bit) or do I just put them on exactly as they are?

Also, what are GAD, etc inserts?

accessorizequeen · 27/07/2008 22:32

I only use (paper or fleece) liners when I'm fairly sure he's going to poo as quite useful to just stick them in the toilet. You don't have to use them at all & with those nappies I wouldn't bother as they're all lined with fleece or microfibre anyway aren't they?

If the stuffing for your wonderoo is a shaped two-parter with poppers to put them together, it's a 'wonderfull' (made by same company as wonderoos). GAD = Green Acre Design, a one-piece microfibre insert/stuffing for pocket nappies. They're quite good because they can go in anything really (aside from swaddlebees which are so narrow they need their own stuffing to fit). You can get deals on inserts new if you happen to buy some 2ndhand pockets without any for instance (although buying inserts 2nd hand is an excellent idea because they're quite pricey new sometimes). But pretty much anything goes, I use the berry plush stuffing to boost ds2's night nappy as he's outgrown them, no waste!

sorry for boring everybody else, no wonder you'll all disappeared...

Olihan · 27/07/2008 22:45

Ah, okay. I get it. So if they poo with no liner, do you just scrape as much as possible into the toilet before pailing it? These inserts seem to be wonderfulls then, they have little yellow elephants on the labels - does that seem right? I've put him to bed in the minki as it was, no extra boosting, am I going to have a wet baby in the middle of the night?

accessorizequeen · 27/07/2008 23:14

I just tend to shake the nappy in the toilet as I flush, rarely have to scrape. Liners better with nappies with sandies etc where the poo wil stick more iyswim. Plenty use them with every nappy change, plenty never use them at all, depends on the baby really. D'yo mean minki huggle? I only put one booster in, you'll prob. be alright as they're very absorbent but you'll know by tomorrow morning if he sleeps through (now that would be nice!).

accessorizequeen · 27/07/2008 23:16

don't think mine have elephants on, they might be something else. Here are wonderfulls.

Olihan · 27/07/2008 23:25

I think they are those ones. Right shape, but different stitching. It came in the wonderoos anyway. One more question, do you use the microterry or hemp GADs? Is there any difference?

(Sorry everyone else.....)

Olihan · 27/07/2008 23:30

Or they could be Mother's Touch ones, they came in those too. Ack, this is confusing.

I did snort coke out of my nose at 'if he sleeps through' though. If he does I'll be ordering gazillions of minkis, I'm telling you .

jabberwocky · 28/07/2008 01:31

Sorry to have disappearedd so much lately. I actually am using cloth part-time on ds2. It's hard b/c dh refuses to dealwith them but they're so cute and fluffy. Plus, his skin has been really awful these last two months and I thought maybe the disposables were making it worse.

Olihan · 28/07/2008 09:05

That's why I'm attempting to switch Jabber, anything to try and ease the eczema. How are you doing at the mo? Is life picking up a bit? ((Hugs)) either way .

Well, no leaks with the Minki, even unboosted - hooray! AND he slept from 7:30 til 5:30 without a peep. I got into bed with him at 5:30, he nursed and went back off til 8:15. Wow! I'm liking the magic minkis .

accessorizequeen · 28/07/2008 13:21

Snorting what kind of coke, Oli? Imagination goes wild. But he did go and sleep through!! Yay for you and minkis. I use microfibre GADs didn't see that they came in hemp but I don't much like hemp as it goes pretty stiff in the water up here. Slimmer fitting though but takes ages to dry. Aren't gads used in Mommy's touch, I don't own one so don't know.

jabber, how's all the work/parenting/selling houses stuff going? Still a struggle? Well done for you using cloth despite dh (could you just not buy sposies, it's the only thing I can do otherwise dp puts one on even if I have laid out a cloth with liner & everything, really rubbish given that he just dumps used ones on the floor & never puts a nappy wash on!).

castlesintheair · 28/07/2008 13:38

Should this thread be renamed the nappy advice line?

Thank you for the sympathy. Sob. You are lovely. Olihan - I had a wee lump in my throat (very rare) when I read your post. I wish people in RL were so kind.

I am fine here just everything is happening at once. My dear Grandma died yesterday and now I am waiting to find out when the funeral is and if I have to cancel our "holiday". I want to go to her funeral of course but I also want my DCs to have their holiday (5 days in Sweden). 'Tis a dilemma. My life is full of them.

Hope everyone is enjoying the hot weather It's 30c + here today and the DCs are looking a little weary ... and as for their mother ...

EustaciaVye · 28/07/2008 13:45

Aaw castles. That's very sad. Hope you're ok. Your Grandma would probably want you all to enjoy a holiday fwiw

EustaciaVye · 28/07/2008 14:47

Too hot here too but I have just washed my car so a bit wet now. Think it may be about to rain. yay!

DD2 has been in bed since 12

DD1 in good mood. as we have made cakes, washed car and played with bubbles in back garden. One is so much easier than two.

EustaciaVye · 28/07/2008 14:49

Of course, two or three or four will also be easy too

accessorizequeen · 28/07/2008 16:05

at EV.

so sorry castles . I hope you're able to go & to have a much needed holiday too (not just the dc's).

jabberwocky · 28/07/2008 18:49

so sorry castles I hope everything works out.

Things pretty stressful around here, unfortunately. Other house still not sold and dh veru upset w/ me today b/c I thought ds1's art camp was morning not afternoon and I hadn't booked a babysitter for my handbell choir time. Need to start a separate thread really for all that...

MARGOsBeenPlayingWithMyNooNoo · 28/07/2008 20:33

Sorry to hear about your grandmother Castles. Grandparents are such special people, they have all of the love but none of the discipline.

Jabber - you okay now? Does dh leave it to you to arrange childcare? If he does, then really he should share some of the blame (easier said than done) {{hugs for you}}
