Couldn't think of anything contraversial!

LenniEd · 17/05/2008 21:48

Just read the part about your surgeon Eli....

GodzillasBumcheek · 17/05/2008 21:50

Well, she drinks about 5 or 6 fluid ounces in the morning before breakfast (from a bottle - i have no problems with it, as apparently DH had one until he was about 3!), but the rest of the day she refuses it, and tantrums if so much as a whiff of milk is put near her! She drinks water or juice froma beaker, but we have tried all sorts with milk and she won't touch it. We have the cow print beaker too!!

accessorizequeen · 17/05/2008 21:57

LOL at calm's 4 in the bed, whatever works imo!

I know plenty of babies who had milk in bottles until 2 or more! I 'forgot' to take bottles with me when we were in Scotland at Easter, with all the distraction he didn't mind but I get them out occasionally still. there are worse things, definitely. If they're having milk in cereal, cheese, yoghurt etc that's counting a lot towards the amount needed.

GodzillasBumcheek · 17/05/2008 22:07

She doesn't manage a full-size yoghurt.
She HATES cheese, absolutely detests it.
The amount she manages on cereals takes it up to about......7 or 8 ounces. NOT enough IMO! And she doesn't even like macaroni cheese. She eats like a wee bird at mealtimes, honestly!

accessorizequeen · 17/05/2008 22:36

No cheese, how do you cope? ! Do they not need about 8 ounces a day, so it's pretty close isn't it? DS2 doesn't really drink much milk unless in a bottle, I should try and offer it more but I forget!

GodzillasBumcheek · 17/05/2008 22:40

It's supposed to be 12-20 according to every books i've read. I could try and force brocolli down her i guess but she'd probably need it for every meal to get enough calcium!

Cheese is annoying. DH will not eat it either! We never have macaroni cheese. We never have cheese on a pizza. Any meal with cheese on the ingredients list is off the menu. I people who can eat macaroni cheese!

jabberwocky · 17/05/2008 22:44

We are in the same boat with milk and cheese here. But now we are all going dairy-free with ds1 so ds2 is quite happy

accessorizequeen · 17/05/2008 22:47

Ooops, 12-20! Not sure we're getting anywhere near that, must start doing milk for brekkie with ds2. guilty mother emoticon. Still at no cheese. I have just had four ryvitas with cheese on, I'm sure I need more protein or something with twins (aq tells herself this must be a scientific fact...)
jabber whilst I do limit dairy for him, ds1 is doing really well on medication, gone down to no or maybe 1 accident a day!

babypowder · 17/05/2008 22:50

DD2 didn't have a bottle at all until she was about 1, and we let her have milk in a bottle if she wants it. I know it's frowned upon in some areas, but she still BFs, so really, what's the difference?

Eli at your surgeon. I'm still gasping - god know how you must have felt!

At present, both DDs are tucked up in their respective beds. Last night, DD2 came into ours at around 4:00, followed by her sister at 5:00. It's usually earlier than that for DD1, so hopefully we're settling into a new pattern that gives DH and I some space, at least for a few hours.

Just think, after a couple of weeks of this we may even be able to work up to something marital

Indith, you alright?

Amapoleon · 17/05/2008 22:57

Hola, tis me l u c y 5. I have had to go incognito due to someones nosiness. All's well here. Ds is huge and running round like a nutter from the moment he wakes. He doesn't sleep through the night but most nights I just bring him into our bed and I don't know that I have done it. The positive side to this is that dd[7] has now decided that she gets a better nights sleep in her own bed!

Ds babbles constantly but only has a few words, hello, dog, wow, go etc. He eats like mad and is still huge, he is in age 2-3 now.

Anyway just thought i would say hello and hope everyone's well xxx

calsworld · 17/05/2008 22:58

Hi all, can I join you? Some of you may remember me from the AN thread, I was posting in both Nov and Dec as DS due date was moved from Nov to Dec. He was born on his new due date of 1st Dec. I was away from MN for quite a long time but have now seen the error of my ways ...

I've been really struggling of late with DS coz I just don't know anyone with DC's, it would be good to have some support.

I am a chicken pox house too at the moment, although I think we've gotten off very lightly, he's only had a few spots, one day of itching which piriton sorted and some grouchiness...think I've got some teething mixed in for a double whammy! joy.

Hope you all have a restful night - I need to get myself to bed!

GodzillasBumcheek · 17/05/2008 22:58

Oh, sorry Eli. Just realized i sounded very insensitive earlier. Hope i didn't offend. It did sound like you were saying what the doctor told you in a fairly jokey way, so i'm hoping i was right.

Going to do a quick sign-off cos DD3 will be making the routine move downstairs soon, poor thing. Goodnight all.

FunkyGlassSlipper · 18/05/2008 06:40

Hi calsworld

Eli at consultant!

Calm at sleeping!!

DD2 is doing ok with the pox. Nowhere near as bad as DD1 was although she has more on her face/neck We had to take her cot away and replace with bed (DD1s old junior bed) yesterday as 3 x this week she has howled in the night with her chubby thigh stuck in the bars. She slept ok in the day but at night time she refused to go to bed unless we stayed in the room with her. Normally we just dump her in the cot and say good night. Difficult to tell if she is anxious about the cot or not well from the pox. She woke at 4 and came in our bed. So now I am tired...

castlesintheair · 18/05/2008 09:32

Eli

Hi calsworld, amapoleon and calm. I'd love to meet up in Kingston or wherever, though I think we've had this conversation several times already!! How is WB btw?

My 3 all sleep in their own beds and this morning DD2 slept until 8.30am

Amapleon, DD2 also in 2yrs clothes. She is tall, a gannet and also never stops moving. She chats all day though most of it is incoherent. She understands everything apart from the word "no"

I can't keep up with all this chat either, I only have time to skim. Hope I haven't missed anything crucial.

Olihan · 18/05/2008 11:07

@ all the babies in 2-3 clothes, ds2 is still happily in 9-12mo with room, well, leg length , to spare. Dd, who is 3 in August still wears 18-24mo, so they're both quite tiddly. Ds1, otoh, is 4.5 and wears age 6-7. He's very tall and skinny - I think he got all the height genes!

Eli, at your consultant. Has your blood pressure come down yet?

Hi Calsworld and Amapoleon!

Ds2 slept through on Fri night but was up about 5 times last night, he's so inconsistent but think it's teeth. His bottom molar seems to be lurking just beneath the surface - I hope it just comes through quickly .

Elibean · 18/05/2008 12:24

bp lol at working up to something marital (though slightly hollow laugh as can relate )

Godzilla, absolutely not offended! All angst reserved for Mr Surgeon anyway....

Bottles: dd1 had her milk at bedtime in hers until about 20 months, then we broke last teat in dishwasher on holiday and she didn't seem too botherered. 3 months earlier when I tried, all hell broke loose - I'm a great believer in waiting until child is ready for most things, unless eg they're asking for a bottle in a deep bass voice

Just as well, 'cos dd2 isn't having any. She thinks milk in cups is very interesting for dripping over herself, but not for drinking thank you very much. And as I hvae to get meds into her three times per day, the bottle is there for a while longer!

Elibean · 18/05/2008 12:26

Oli, dd is teething atm - she's very cranky and cry-y a lot of the time, responds beautifully to Calpol, and has the last two bottom incisors peeking through. She's done it all backwards

bp, forgot to say, I hear you re backs...just v v hard to do anything about it while dd not walking! Though I shouldn't have carried tired dd1 up to bed last night

LenniEd · 18/05/2008 12:31

Thanks Eli, thats what I thought myself with the bottles but sometimes I cave under the pressure and feel like I am doing her a disservice not to have got rid of them. Its hard to know whats right and whats not when so many people in RL have conflicting ideas and I am still muddling through, making things up as I go along. I really ought to trust my instincts more though. No.2 will be so much less worrying me thinks.

FunkyGlassSlipper · 18/05/2008 12:35

Feeling terrible. Gave DD2 2 x the dose of pirition she is meant to have earlier. 5ml instead of 2.5.Of course she didnt spit any out either. Cue total panic and a call to NHS direct who were very good actually and told me she will be fine but probably sleepy. She is in bed as we speak and has been since 11.00. Her pox has spread around her neck and face and is in her bits/bottom and even on her toes now. She doesnt seem bothered as much as DD1 was but her neck is like one big spot there are so many...

Indith · 18/05/2008 13:19

She will be fine FGS, tis pretty difficult to overdose to dangerous levels on antihistamines, just keep a check on her while she sleeps as she will be likely to sleep much more deeply than normal.

at the consultant Eli, bed it was one of those things he didn't intend to say out loud.

Hello Cal and Ama

I'm ok thanks BP, just seem to have to be very careful about food intake and it keeps me going. Attempting to avoid overdoing things, bus back from town rather than walk etc.

Ds doesn't drink much milk really. He has a cup before bed, usually drinks about 3oz. He has porridge at breakfast but that is it really. Cheese on toast quite often if home for lunch. I really should get more calcium in him but he just loves drinking water!

He managed to walk about 2 meters before falling over today

Elibean · 18/05/2008 13:34

Congrats INdith's ds

Is dd the last one to walk (as well as one of the oldest?!)

Better apply my own 'in their own time' philosophy, eh, its just that my back is impatient - not worried in any other way.

FGS, honestly don't worry - I hate doing things like that, but have, as has dh, and there is such a big margin for ok-ness with most drug doses for kids that its quite hard to harm them. Esp antihistamines, as Indith says. Poor dd, hopefully she'll get a good sleep and the nastiest spots will start to heal? I saw a tip on the Health section re CP, metanium on sore looking spots - have mentally noted it.

Meant to say earlier - hello Calsworld

And hello L-alias-ama, hope the nosiness wasn't the nasty sort?

Elibean · 18/05/2008 13:35

Where is my brain?

And also meant to say, glad you're ok Indith - keep eating, even if its G&B 6 tds!

jabberwocky · 18/05/2008 14:42

I'm hopelessly behind on this thread!

FGS - so sorry to hear that the pox are so bad. Here's hoping today is a better day for dd2.

AQ - glad to hear there's improvement with ds1! We have only had one accident in the last week so fingers crossed over here.

eli - Maybe sit down and have a heart to heart with dd2 about your back and her walking skills

Good to see you L. Had to do the same thing a few months after I joined MN. It's a pain, isn't it?

Welcome back cal

castles, very at the sleep. I'm in the same boat as bp and calm. Although as far as anything "marital" goes, well, quickies are in general rather underrated Make the most of the time you have is our motto, lol.

accessorizequeen · 18/05/2008 20:00

good gracious, we talk a lot.

jabber, 1 accident a week is fab!

indith, keep on with the frequent meals and you're absolutely right taking it easy. I find that hard to remember. Was on the go constantly with friends here for 3 days, didn't sit down all day, then come the weekend absolutely exhausted. Durrr. And ds must be loving the walking, ds2 cannot keep the grin off his face, he's quite hysterical!

hello calsworld, welcome back tis v.hard when you know no-one with dc's. Do you go to a few groups or have you found them hard to tackle as most of us do!

urgggh, with the cp, fgs, I'm sure the piriton will be absolutely fine. Glad dd2 suffering a little less but cannot imagine 'in her bits'. I was quite weirded out by girl twin's front bottom this week, so used to willies!

babypowder · 18/05/2008 20:44

FGS, DH did the same thing with DD1 when she was 3.5 and off to her nursery church service. He spent the whole time terrified that she was going to fall down in a deep sleep We all do it. Dosing is so confusing. I read and re-read every label. There must be a better way

AQ, you are doing far too much. Stop now. Lol at 'front bottom' - I was so relieved that I had girls, just because I understand how their plumbing works.

Got a little marital last night - without interruption. Not sure it was meant to be a quickie , but it's a great tip, Jabber
