Couldn't think of anything contraversial!

LenniEd · 16/08/2008 09:54

No I can't claim to have been overly pleased about it Eli, although that said they look a damn sight better in the appropriate device!

BP - I have come to the conclusion that glamour and parenthood are mutually exclusive, unless of course you can afford a nanny.

Elibean · 16/08/2008 11:37

Glamour? Glamour?!? Hell, no. Done threadworm last winter, looking forward to nits next as dd starts primary...

Castles, had v nice time at Kew, dd1 still talking about it (and refers to your dd1 as 'the big girl' - presumably to differentiate from dd2 ) hope Scotland shines for you!

LenniEd, you're right, best to come out of denial and appropriate suitable device...

I'm beginning to get edgy about dd2's hip scan on Monday. dh won't talk about it 'because there's no point unless there's a problem'. Well, yes, but you're male

babypowder · 16/08/2008 18:08

Eli, I thought it was just my DH who behaved like that. He has this amazing way of making me feel like a worry-wart when I want to discuss anything for which I don't have a definitive answer or resolution. He would just mutter (from behind his paper, in a very Edwardian-father kind of way) 'Let's just leave it to the professionals, shall we? There's nothing we can accomplish by discussing it

accessorizequeen · 16/08/2008 20:00

Hullo all. Hall being painted week by mum so I've been staying at her place with the dc's to avoid fumes. Come back today and asthma's worse so I suppose I ought to have stayed away but so nice to be home!
Eli, dp would be exactly the same about worrying etc - what's the point he would say argggghh. Although he did v.nicely listen to me worry about haemorraging after the birth (as apparently risk fairly high for twins eek) last week. But I do hope the result is positive for her.
Castles, at last you get a holiday, hope all is wonderful for you!
Oli, Indith, Lennied et al - Bravissimo is so fab, I felt completely cosseted. Only been once as it's in Leeds. I have no idea what norks will be like after twins, they're strangely not growing at all with this pg much at odds with my frankly enormous belly which is now covered in ugly stretchmarks. Haven't had any since I hit 40 weeks with ds1, what does that say about my girth?
Good and bad news this week, the twins are both head down & unlikely to move now so I can go for VB but have also developed SPD and in quite a lot of paint most of the week although thankfully today a great deal better. Have physio appt on Monday so hopefully she'll give me a belt and some idea of how to lessen it. My mother has been a completely godsend, when not painting my hall, she's been looking after dc's so I can rest. Stepdad equally wonderful, dp & I thinking of how to thank them properly.

accessorizequeen · 16/08/2008 20:03

in quite a lot of pain

babypowder · 16/08/2008 22:45

AQ, so about your SPD. It's such a nightmare. Have you been given anything to help you move around? I found that crutches in the last couple of months helped enormously (although they were difficult to manage with DD1) I didn't get a huge amount of relief from the maternity belt thing, but I know that that helps loads of women.

I trust you have been referred to an ante-natal physio?

accessorizequeen · 16/08/2008 23:23

I thought someone on here must have had it and have good advice, bp! It's only been a problem this week so mentioned it to consultant last Mon and she got urgent referral for me for coming monday with antenatal physio. I cannot imagine being on crutches, I hope it doesn't come to that. If I rest up as much as poss instead of running around like a mad thing I'm sure I can keep it under control. Felt like a normal person again today instead of invalid with everyone rushing to pick things up for me!

babypowder · 17/08/2008 10:01

On an utterly frivolous note, can any of you stylish ladies help me with this rather vain question

LenniEd · 17/08/2008 20:48

Ah, BP - its lovely. Was panicking as couldn't think what I would say to a style question, luckily Margo was on hand with encouragement.

Am feeling very fat this evening. Have gained about 10lbs so far this pg. Thats quite a lot isn't it? I'm only 19wks after all. Really don't want to put on loads of weight. Am convinced that about 4lbs is boob as they've gone massive, but given that only a couple of lbs is baby related that means about 4lbs is fat - actually thats not unbearable really is it? Oh, I feel a bit better now I've put it like that. Everyone on my AN thread keeps moaning about how they've gained 3lbs and similar, .

AQ - much sympathy on the SPD. Had it mildly with DD and that was bad enough, can't imagine it being bad. Do everything with legs first was the advice from my physio - turn your legs before your body rather than letting your body drag your legs round. Makes sense when they explain honest! And keep your legs together when getting up and down.

Indith, how did the underwear shopping go? I know exactly what you mean about maternitywear.

Elibean · 17/08/2008 22:22

BP its gorgeous! You'll stun 'em. Though naked would probably have stunned them even more Seriously, I think its beautiful - quietly glamorous, flattering shape, lovely material. Enjoy.

AQ, I'm so sorry you're suffering with SPD...I had it mildly with dd1 and that was bad enough, full blown SPD must be agonizing. And I can't imagine having it and looking after two LOs at the same time Glad your Mum's helping. I got quite a start reading the twins are head down - made it seem so soon, and so real!

Thanks for dh-sympathies, he's on board finally...think getting myself heard here helped me shout louder Now we're both anxious, but at least I'm not alone. I don't know if we'll have feedback from scans tomorrow or have to wait for consultant apt on the last Friday of the month, but will post update anyway. Please cross fingers that I don't burst into tears/snap at dd1 or the radiographer.

Elibean · 17/08/2008 22:25

By the way, LenniEd, I gained more than that by 19 weeks with dd2 but at the end I weighed less than I did with dd1 at the same stage - IYSWIM. I don't think it means much, ignore those 3lb gainers

Elibean · 18/08/2008 11:05

Apt done! Now I feel a bit for having worried, but mostly v v because hips are ok. She's hypermobile, got flat feet, and has to be re-scanned in 6 months (one socket shallower than the other) but basically, consultant not worried. Yeay!

Thanks for being my worry-outlet, once again..

MARGOsBeenPlayingWithMyNooNoo · 18/08/2008 11:43

Oh, that's good news about your dd eli. Sometimes you need an official ruling out before you can stop worrying. I know I do.

We've just received a letter from our pct about getting a 2nd dose of mmr as measles seems to be prevalent in our area.

BP - You Gok'd yourself! It's a lovely dress and you'll look beautiful. (I have to say, I spend most of my time looking dishevelled(sp?) so I'm no style guru!). My dads cousin lives on the East coast of Scotland so we've had many a trip up there, in fact, that's where my dog is from! He lives in Dalgety Bay - are you a bit further up? Will you post some pictures of you in your dress on our FB group once you've attended? I need to envy you in your dress !

OP posts:
accessorizequeen · 18/08/2008 12:28

Oh, great news, Eli, I suppose your dh will say why did you worry though !
BP, haven't followed the dress but hope you now feel more positive about yourself, I know we all change after having babies & it's hard to come to terms with. My body will no doubt be completely diff. again after the twins but I do remember from last time that a haircut, bit of makeup and properly fitting clothes made all the difference to how I felt.
Lennied, really don't worry about the weight, there are always people who put on a pound a trimester, every body is different. Are you going to try bf this time or is the medication you take a problem? BF will help shift the weight if you're able to.
Did I mention I'd bought a double buggy? Finally. Whole family v.relieved
Been to physio this morning, she was quite positive said I still had a good range of movement & should recover well after the birth, suggested positions for being examined (hadn't thought of that!) as well as labour.

I think we have a name for girl twin. Trouble is, doesn't go with the name we'd chosen for boy twin arggghghhhhhhhh.

Elibean · 18/08/2008 13:07

AQ, how did you guess?! Though to be fair, he ended up worrying a fair bit himself - just took a while to get there I suppose if the GP thought we needed the scan, it was always going to be a possibility and hence worrying...but have to admit the cruncher for me was my mother turning up on holiday and saying with great authority and gloom: 'her hips look very stiff, I'm afraid its probably going to turn out to be hip related'.

you'd think I'd know better, at my age.

Congrats on the double buggy and the girl twin name! I'm not sure how girl/boy names can not go together (brain slow today, with relief) but is it easier to keep girl name and find a new boy name maybe?? I found boy names much easier, for some reason - never needed any of them, but had a whole list! Glad you got some support with the SPD.

Oops

Margo, we had one of those letters with dd1...

EustaciaVye · 18/08/2008 13:15

Hi everyone. Been away for weekend. Lovely break (for once).

Eli - glad DDs hips are fine.

AQ - do they need to go together iykwim?

BP - lovely dress. Have you founsh shoes/accessories yet? Only clicked link and didnt read thread.

LenniEd · 18/08/2008 14:49

I don't know if they need to go together either AQ - after all they will have so much in common it might be nice to have something about them that is a bit at odds. And since you've two DSs already, the chances are you'll be referrring to them in all sorts of combinations anyway. BTW are you going to tell us what the girl twin name is?? Suspense is killing me!

Glad everything ok Eli, must be such a relief.

EV, glad you had a nice weekend.

accessorizequeen · 18/08/2008 16:22

weekend away sounds v.good for you, ev, is this part of the replacement holiday plan? I was so pleased to come back to my house this week after 3 nights, I just about cried (fgs, in complete nesting mode...).

Um, I think the dt's names ought to kind of go together and fit with the others. Not sure they do. Am I just a fussy sod, probably! However first girl's name we both like and doesn't start with an e (I love girl's names starting with E as you know EV but they sound so funny with surname). I haven't said what they are to anyone Lennied including my mum, sorry! I still feel a little annoyed with dp that he hates all of my faves (Lily, Maeve, Matilda). How are you doing planning names, are you going to find out the sex in a couple of weeks or not (go on go on...).

LenniEd · 18/08/2008 16:49

Fair enough. Think we are pretty much agreed on Dylan for a boy, although there are a few others we like too so not decided. Girls names much harder... DDs name was the only one we really liked last time so none left over from her, and only family name we like is Jessica which is DDs middle name so that is out. DH likes Millie and Lauren, but I'm not sold on either.

MARGOsBeenPlayingWithMyNooNoo · 18/08/2008 17:40

Sorry Lennied - I have to side with your dh on the name game.

Indith · 18/08/2008 18:20

Ho hum, bra shopping is not good. Have not had the chance to go to Newcastle though.

Eli glad there was good news for the hips, 10% of the population is hypermobile, including me One day she too will disgust her friends with her bendy abilities

AQ for the buggy and the heads down, for the SPD, hope you get useful info on it, another reason to rest up!

Great dress BP

Hello EV! Glad you had a good weekend.

Names.... Some lovely ones mentioned, not a fan of Dylan personally, or rather I can't imagine calling a child of mine Dylan as I actually fid it a perfectly nice name. It was on Dp's list for Ds though and I'm sure it will be mentioned again.

Ds not quite happy again, not grumpy all the time but not himself. Bloody teeth. When he is happy though he is the most wonderful, soft, squishy, huggable affectionate child :) He has mastered climbing, currently limited to sofas and so a useful tool but I hate to think what he'll be like in a few days/weeks as he expands to chairs and kitchen tables.

EustaciaVye · 18/08/2008 18:45

Yes my break was part of the holiday replacement plan. We stayed in a premier inn actually and it was really nice. All of us in same room, breakfast free for the kids and they got an activity pack each too.

I like your DHs babyname choices too

Anyone got a good pushchair, can youhelp me ?

accessorizequeen · 18/08/2008 20:08

Once the dt's are born, Lennied & Indith I'll post on my baby name book for inspiration! 14,000 names, bound to be something (just not for us grrr). Dylan doesn't go with our surname but I do like it though.
Hope you get bra soon, Indith.
Have stayed at 5 Premier Inns I think, EV and they're fab, great for families & good value. Not that I particularly fancy sharing a room with either of my children! Have posted re: buggy
