Couldn't think of anything contraversial!

Evening all! Does anyone know how to get rid of the smell of sick from a mattress? DS had some kind of 24 hr bug (fingers crossed hasn't been sick since yesterday) but the mattress got a bit of a soaking and I can't get rid of the smell!

Indith · 28/06/2008 20:54

Get some borax and sprinkle it over the area, leave it for a good while and hoover it off.

At my mum's, may kill parents soon, it has not been very long at all since the last visit and I find them much easier to live with in smaller doses! Still my dress is progressing

Ds is soooo active he is exhausting! In a lovely way of course, he seems to spend all day giggling. Sleeps til 9am at the moment though so can't complain. Went to play with AQ today, she managed to pin the 2 of them down long enough for a pic for FB Have added a couple of ds there for good measure.

accessorizequeen · 28/06/2008 21:50

He was lovely, indith Haven't put photo of them on fb yet, but I will!

Olihan · 28/06/2008 22:54

bicarb of soda will also do it, Gloria.

Gosh, I've had a shocker today. Ds1 woke up at 4:30am and refused to go back to sleep so has been vile all day. He's shouted, screamed, stropped, hit dd and just generally been the child from hell. I completely lost it at bedtime when he kicked off again over nothing and manhandled him far too roughly out of the bathroom into the bedroom then really shouted at him . I feel so bloody guilty now but he'd been so horrid all day that I couldn't take anymore at that precise moment in time. I should have walked away, or given him a cuddle, or just done anything than pull him around and shout in his face . I feel like the world's crappiest mother right now.

EustaciaVye · 29/06/2008 06:59

I second bicarb of soda for sick smells.

Indith - I did the same yesterday. DD2 is up at 5.30 every day and it is taking its toll. She is grumpy about everything we wont allow her to do and very shouty with it which makes you want to shout back...

Elibean · 29/06/2008 09:02

(((Oli)))) hope you had a better night. We've all been there, I'm sure, and DH always reminds me on those (thankfully rare, but horrid) days that one-off losing-it on my part is not damaging to the dds...repeated losing-its would be, but not one-offs. And seeing Mum cross and shouty occasionally just makes being human ok, or so I tell myself

Indith, glad the dress counterbalances the parents - know just what you mean about small doses!

Sorry your dd sick, Gloria - dd2 also had 24 hr tummy virus, no sicking but high temp and very very grumpy. dh ditto, minus the temp

Elibean · 29/06/2008 09:03

dd2 is scribbling with dd1's felt pens, and just found out how to do dots - she looked amazed and said 'eye!' (or French equivalent) and is busying doing scribbles with eyes now. I should take the felts away, really, but I'm too proud of her

EustaciaVye · 29/06/2008 09:13

Eli - DD2 is obsessed with scribbling at the moment. I've had to dig out or old child table as she keeps climbing up on the dining room table to do it

Olihan · 29/06/2008 12:07

Ds2 also big on scribbling - no 'eyes' though as yet .

Ds1 is a bit better this morning, still not my usual happy boy but less screamy than yesterday. I, on the other hand, was up 6 times last night with ds2 and dd so am very tired and grumpy. DH has taken them out for the day, i was going to do housework but I'm 'de-stressing' on here instead!

Elibean · 29/06/2008 12:38

Six times? G&Bs for you, DVDs for kids, as much delegating to DH as possible, and an early night. Poor Oli.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one giving a 19 mo old access to scribble material, though really think I should buy some toddler crayons or something...trouble is, she'll want to do whatever dd1 does, which is invariably felt tips

We took both dds, a bunch of flowers, two towels to sit on, and two small chocolate treats up into the loft after lunch to celebrate. Surprisingly enjoyable

On a different note: dd1 had whiff of BO on hot sweaty night in B&B last week, have been worrying a bit as its not meant to start till puberty...sort of reassured by Health section, but still...anyone else noticed this in a 4.5 yr old? She does bath every night, though not with soap usually as has eczema.

EustaciaVye · 29/06/2008 16:09

Eli - crayola washable felt pens

Dd1 sweats a lot. Cant say I've noticed BO but it is a sweat smell iykwim. She has a bath every night.

Elibean · 29/06/2008 18:34

God bless Crayola: will invest, ran out of those some time ago

Thanks for smell info, will have a deep sniff tonight and report back.....

Am supposed to be running bath, but with dds in garden with dh too good to resist a minute or two of dossing...and a slice of rhubarb tart...

jabberwocky · 29/06/2008 23:48

Oli, don't feel bad. There's only so much anyone can take. Occasionally my boys have pushed my buttons too much too.

eli, congrats on the loft! I love the little chocolates celebration idea. ds2 likes to scribble but eats crayons and bites the tips off markers so we have to really supervise.

gloria, a friend of mine made up something that really helped smells. Not sure what all is in it but I can see whole cloves so that could help any leftover aromas.

Indith/AQ am so of meetup playdates.

indith, I definitely know what you mean about small doses. My life is a bit less stressful on that front at least now that my parents are 15 minutes away instead of 2. It may still sounds close but at least you have to drive the car over

LenniEd · 30/06/2008 09:42

Scan in an hour and a half. Commence water consumption and prayers that pelvic floor isn't quite as shot to pieces as I think it is. Wish me luck.

accessorizequeen · 30/06/2008 10:45

don't drink too much lennied, it's soooo painful urgh. Good luck, I am sure bean will be absolutely fine (hug)

Elibean · 30/06/2008 11:02

Good luck Lennied

accessorizequeen · 30/06/2008 11:25

Oli, hope things have got better, I've certainly had days like that with ds1 you are not the only one! Listen to your wise dh

Eli, whoo-hoo loft extinction under way, think of all that lovely new space!

Crayons and pens v.popular here all of a sudden but only on boden catalogues for some reason. And ds2 really enjoying being able to sprint round after ds1, hang out washing, dig in the garden, build towers, it's all happening. If only he wouldn't argue the toss about shoes 17 times a day arggggh. He's obsessive about them, yet I'm never allowed to actually put one on! I really struggled with him yesterday on my own, I found it much harder to entertain him for 5 hours straight than both of them for the whole day Didn't help it was raining, everything closed etc and he wouldn't watch tv, what will it take!

castlesintheair · 30/06/2008 12:06

Morning campers. Hope everyone's well. Just back from a whirl-wind weekend to Devon. Aaaaaaaaaah, I feel an eulogy coming on Only downside was seeing my mother again!

Congrats on loft extension Eli.

Hugs to AQ & Oli. Little buggers darlings drive us all mad and we are only human ... so are they. I think

Good luck with scan Lennied.

Erm, can't remember anything else. DD2 is also heavily into drawing ... particularly on the walls, floor and her clothes Her recent really-cute-thing-that-makes-me-forget-the previous-horror is picking up the real telephone, dialling it, putting it to her ear (usually upside down) and saying "Ello, ow are oo?" 19 months today bless her little chubby chops.

LenniEd · 30/06/2008 13:52

All OK. Almost passed out when they did blood tests though so am indulging in a huge slice of lemon cake and a cup of tea on account of the fact it must have been my blood sugar . DD does not approve of Mummy eating cake and her eating raisins. Its part of the privilages of motherhood I've explained but she still wants the cake.

accessorizequeen · 30/06/2008 16:06

Congrats, Lennied, told you it would be alright! When's edd? that you get cake past dd, no way would ds2 stand for it!

EustaciaVye · 30/06/2008 16:21

Not having a good afternoon. Reversed into my neighbours car Sympathy please.

accessorizequeen · 30/06/2008 16:25

eeek, ev! You poor thing, so stressful!

LenniEd · 30/06/2008 17:00

Oh no! Are you OK?

LenniEd · 30/06/2008 17:01

13th of Jan

EustaciaVye · 30/06/2008 17:15

Glad the scan went well

I'm fine. A bit teary and stressed but it really wasnt that bad. Neighbour ok about it, swapped details etc although his English is not good so it was a bit of a challenge.
