Couldn't think of anything contraversial!

((EV)) horrid, would have shaken me up too, am glad yo'ure ok and hope you're downing large cups of tea and planning quiet chunks of G&B or equivalent pleasure.

Hurrah, Lennied, congrats! Hmm, could you end up with another December LO, maybe...

Am attempting supper out with dh, must run and get LOs vaguely clean (they had a dip in local playground pool, so not too bad) and ready for bed. Though dh wants to talk loft extinctions and I'm a tad fed up with wiring/flooring decisions - will have to divert

jabberwocky · 30/06/2008 21:08

Poor Ev, I hate dealing with things like that. A large G&T should help

Hope dinner with dh is fun, eli. My dh and I actually had dinner out with another couple on sat night It was nice to do some grown-up conversation for a change.

MARGOsBeenPlayingWithMyNooNoo · 30/06/2008 21:11

How bad was it EV?

I scraped someones car when parking in B&Q when pg.

Crayons get eaten by my dog. I don't know what my dds do with their pencils.

Eli - hope dinner is nice!

Margo - My car is ok except for a slight crack in the bumper. His has a great big dent in his driver door. I think it may need a new door. I out a note through the door tonight (he doesnt speak much English) to say if he wanted we'd be happy to pay for the repair directly rather than going through insurance companies, depending on cost. Will see what he says.

Olihan · 30/06/2008 22:39

EV, do you have protected No Claims? I did similar to my mum's car in a carpark and it was cheaper to do it on insurance than for her to pay it. Have a stiff drink and try not to dwell on it .

Better day today, helped by the fact that ds1 was in preschool all day but managed to keep my cool a bit more when he was stroppy. Thanks for your support, glad it's not just me.

Eli, hope you had a good supper and deviations from loft talk.

EustaciaVye · 01/07/2008 07:20

Olihan, I am the 2nd named driver on DHs insurance as it was cheaper that way because I've only been driving a couple of years. Not sure how it will affect his no claims. Will see what happens. Feel a bit better this morning.

Gloria42 · 01/07/2008 09:36

Lennied, congrats on scan, 13th Jan is my mum AND her mum's birthday so big date in our house!

castlesintheair · 01/07/2008 14:18

Congrats on scan Lennied

LenniEd · 01/07/2008 17:46

Thanks Gloria and Castles - DD was born 40+2 so a chance this one could arrive on time Gloria - amazing that your Mum arrived on her Mum's birthday!

EV - I had to have my door replaced on my old car (a Corolla) and (sorry to tell you this) it was really expensive - about £800 I think. We ended up doing it on the insurance as my premium went up the next year by about £100ish but not enough to be worth paying ourselves. Might be worth calling the insurance company and letting them know what has happened - you have to fill out or at least sign a claim form anyway before the claim goes through so calling them isn't going to affect your policy, but I think you have a set time to inform them in.

Elibean · 01/07/2008 20:23

Thanks for dinner wishes, ended up having a pub garden meal, which was mediocre food-wise but very nice outing-wise and only minimal loft-talk. We do seem to have a huge amount of 'responsible' things to discuss atm, for some reason, though.

EV, any news from your neighbour today? Have had similar experience to Lennied, with losing no claims being infinitely preferable to paying for damage. If you ever want a list of silly car accidents I have had, to make you feel, better, say the word. I once drove into a table (admittedly, sticking out of the back of the Mini in front of me at the lights).

Glad you're feeling better re ds, Oli - I was beginning to find dd1 extra hard going this past week, but have realized she's regressing out of anxiety because in fact she's growing up apace and is feeling the impending change of school/life. So now I feel all loving towards her, at best, and am better able to grit my teeth, all the rest of the time...hope it doesn't stay like that all holidays, though....

EustaciaVye · 01/07/2008 20:25

Glad you had a nice meal out Eli.

Thanks for words about the car. Havent heard from neighbour so imagine he will go through insurance. Slight complication www.mumsnet.com/Talk/2230/559079#11421057 so I am super anxious at the moment.

This has been an awful year so far

Elibean · 01/07/2008 20:27

dd1 (who is extra tired tonight) asked me to tickle her in a very innappropriate place at bedtime, when I was stroking her back.

I said, very calmly, no, I'd tickle her back, but her 'zezette' was hers alone to tickle

She grumped a bit. It was one of those moments when I have NO idea if I'm saying the right thing - parenting, yikes.

Elibean · 01/07/2008 20:29

Sorry, EV, X posted - understand you worrying, I would too, but would have thought it would be ok if not same policy? Do you have any friendly lawyers you could ask?

Indith · 01/07/2008 20:31

Oooh scan Lennied, very exciting. Glad it went well

EV sorry about the car, hope you are feeling a bit better about it now.

Hope you had a lovely, loft conversation free dinner Eli.

I am not brave enough to let ds loose with crayons....now feeling like a mean mummy though as he does constantly pick pens up form the table and pretend to scribble with them.

I want McDonalds. Have done for weeks, nothing else will hit the spot...not chips, not frozen supermarket breadcrumbed chicken. Nothing. We passed one on the motorway between here and my mum's and I started salivating. Don't have one here though. That and I'm not sure I can actually purchase anything from the bringers of evil place. Even if I did I don't think dp would forgive me. When I lived in college the MD (now closed) was the only place open by the time I got home from Guides (having missed college tea) and he used to make me brush my teeth before kissing me.

LenniEd · 01/07/2008 21:07

EV - out of interest did you get insurance details from your neighbour? Is their car old or newish and did you happen to notice (or could happen to notice) if it is up to date on its road tax?

I have a close relative who wrote off another close relative's car which they weren't insured to drive - they had the car owner in the car who had asked them to drive and insisted they were insured. It caused a lot of family trauma, but then it turned out the car wasn't taxed or MOT'd and the insurance premiums weren't up to date and the claim was thrown out on those grounds before anyone admitted who was driving.

If it is an older car and you know anyone who is handy with cars or a good garage you might be able to get a replacement door done a lot cheaper from scrap.

Indith - McDonalds = Evil. I could not possibly condone consumption of their food not even in these dire circumstances. Perhaps if you add gherkins and ridiculously sweet ketchup/pickle to your supermarket chicken along with a soggy bun it will all be ok and no more trees or Palestinian children will be harmed. Your photo of you and ickle DS on your FB profile is soooo ridiculously cute. Really lovely.

I know they are evil! I hate them! But I just want chicken nuggets and chips! We have a KFC up the road but I have no desire for KFC (also evil). I need a more attainable craving.

LenniEd · 01/07/2008 21:16

To make you (and Eli) feel better
My car accidents:

Age 16years and 364 days (i.e. no licence)- wrote off my Mum's £7000 car by losing control and reversing it at 30mph into a steel post. (Behind which was a slurry pit which my sister and I would have drowned in had we hit the wooden fence either side of the steel post.) Commence lifelong obsession with road safety. Wasn't the greatest 17th birthday.

About 8 years ago - reversed DHs new car into brick wall on his drive smashing headlights and bumper. Fortunately we were still in the highly romantic stage and he quickly forgave me . Cost him about £400

About 4 years ago - on arrival to school where I worked scraped the whole of one side of my car along the metal school gate in front of about 800 kids and most of the staff. Claim totalled £1600 - door and whole front wing had to be replaced. Pride never recovered.

And I've also been hit twice, but since that wasn't my fault I'm not counting them.

LenniEd · 01/07/2008 21:19

Oh dear, was worth a shot. An insurance broker if you know one would also be able to advise you on how the other accident affects your policy.

Elibean · 01/07/2008 21:29

Blimey, LenniEd, remind me to give you a wide berth if I see you coming

Actually, no more frequent than mine, but possibly more impressive and anyway, I'm a lot older than you so allowed more accidents per lifetime

Indith, McD's?! Can you visualize that horrible clown whenever cravings hit, or does that make you crave more?

Indith · 01/07/2008 22:00

Good going Lennied! I pranged a car very soon after I passed my test. Was working on a cattle station in Queensland and swerved off the road over a few posts. Ooops. Was my bosses car and I'd only been there a couple of days! Slashed a tyre, broke a light and possibly broke the brake line (they blamed it on me but I'm pretty sure it had brakes the next time I drove it, was after the bosses wife that they failed).

Eli I'm going to have nightmares about clowns now.

Elibean · 01/07/2008 22:22

And I'm going to have nightmares about pregnant, highly educated women swerving around me in high speed cars

accessorizequeen · 01/07/2008 22:42

LOL at all of you
Not the end of the world if you have McD's, Indith, I had craving a few weeks ago and gave into it but clearly I have no ethics!

EV, hope it works out & stress eases! Thought I had replied to you btw re: dd's name for dt, did I? Tis lovely, but don't think it will go with our surname. I wish we had a different surname, it's a b*&er. Joy of joys though, we do have a name for boy twin but it's top secret!! Just have to wade through 7,000 girl names AGAIN in the name book to see if there's one we can agree on.

jabberwocky · 02/07/2008 04:49

lenniEd, I meant to say congratulations on the scan! I know it is such a relief after they are done and you know thngs look good.

EV, couldn't find your thread, I hope everything is alright.

Heading off to bed here, dh and ds1 are out of town checking up on our other un-sold house Ds2 is finally sleeping around 5 and occasionally 6 hours at a time but I can't get caught up on that. I keep dreaming of 8 hours of unbroken sleep...

EustaciaVye · 02/07/2008 07:22

Sorry Jabber, I deleted the thread as it was a bit telling.

Had a chat with DH last night. I feel anxious all the time. I had felt better coming off the pill but that has maybe lasted 6 weeks. DH is being great but doesnt really know what to do either. I dont know if I am just stressed because of the last 6 months - own business, knee op, cat injured, girls with pox and now car prang. Or if I am depressed. I dont know if I want to go to GP. Would probably sit there blubbing and I dont know if I want to be put on medication. Not sure what to do
