Couldn't think of anything contraversial!

Ah, EV. Knew there must be someone out there

EustaciaVye · 26/06/2008 14:26

DD2 is falling over everything today. Tres tiresome. But, she has discovered Razzledazzle on cbeebies and hasnt moved for at least 4 minutes

babypowder · 26/06/2008 15:33

It's so weird - DD2 has only just discovered telly (her sister has obviously known the delights for years now!) She adores it when there's someone singing (like the Tweenies, or the Bob the Builder theme song), but she's not hugely interested otherwise. Which is a real pain sometimes when all you want is 5 minutes to get something done!

castlesintheair · 26/06/2008 18:07

My DD2 loves TV. It's the only thing that stops her wrecking the place.

castlesintheair · 26/06/2008 18:09

Meant to add my friend has referred her DD for speech therapy because at 21 months she claims she only has 4 words. Am I alone in thinking this is a tad premature? I know the waiting lists are long but still ...

EustaciaVye · 26/06/2008 18:11

DD1 didnt speak until about 2 1/4

DD2 says a few more things than DD1 a this age but not much that other people woulod understand.

accessorizequeen · 26/06/2008 20:12

too, I've referred ds1 (he's 4.6) after 2 years of noticing an issue with his speech. 21 months is way too early to tell imo!

Awww, aq cradles bump lovingly, it is quite a neat one for two great heffalumps in there! Don't ever feel glamourous but nice of you to say so, oli!

Lennied, looked at your photos, lovely to see ones of all of you and dd is soooo cute! I love her name, still going through my name book, I'm up to M's for girls sigh.

bp, I do so wish ds2 would like some tv, I need to try him on peppa pig but haven't recorded any yet.

LenniEd · 26/06/2008 20:13

DD is 'talking' but most of it is nonsense to strangers and she resorts to pointing and grunting quite a lot still. If there is anyone she doesn't know nearby she won't utter a sound, except to cry. I think proper talking will be a while yet.

Sounds like DD2 is musically inclined BP I wouldn't worry too much just yet. I am consciously trying to talk to DD more now though to encourage her to talk back. I catch myself off in my thoughts sometimes and realise that I don't talk to her half as much as other people do when they are with her. I think it is partly because I know what she needs instinctively so don't always need to talk to her.

Sorry to moan about pregnant things in here - would like to promise it will be the last time but I think that is unlikely - I have got the pregnant sinus thing and it is driving me mad. I can't sleep properly at night with it. Went to the midwife today and was expecting her to say it would go at however many weeks, but apparently it will last the whole pregnancy. Arrrgghhhhhh!!!!

LenniEd · 26/06/2008 20:16

Thanks AQ. I am a little biased when it comes thinking she is cute! We are working on names a bit too. All the girls names we like end with an 'a' sound like DDs name and I think it could get a bit confusing! We need to branch out - I'll post a few of them once we've got safely through the scan on Monday... fingers crossed.

Elibean · 26/06/2008 21:52

What have I missed?

Oooh, Lennied, scan on Monday...am excited for you. And need to go and look at your pics, have only just recovered computer after sealing off study door for 24 hours while ceiling bashed in.

Elibean · 26/06/2008 22:00

Ah, Lennied, she's gorgeous!

Castles, I'm a bit too, re your friend and speech therapist...dd1 had loads of words by then, but dd2 has maybe half a dozen clear ones (and another dozen I can just about make out, but no one else could) and I'm not remotely worried. Should I be?!

OTOH, GP says dd2 needs to see paed ortho surgeon, in case she needs insoles to support her ankles - and a hip scan, to make sure its ankles and not hips

Feel totally disorientated after night away for building work (both dds awake till 10pm, up before 6am, and hysterical with excitement - to give an example of dd2's hysteria, having thrown up with excitement, she was cuddled against me to try and relax, and bit my nipple very hard. I was too tired to notice she had been absentmindedly looking for long-gone comfort...I'm afraid I yelped and automatically pushed her away, cue one v distressed dd ). Oh, and this followed by new parents evening at dd1's school-to-be.

Elibean · 26/06/2008 22:04

Thought it had crashed, twice. Bed, definitely.

accessorizequeen · 26/06/2008 22:28

Hope the dust & chaos clears soon Eli, it will all be worth it I am sure!

Lennied, I always like names ending with a, but they don't go with dp's surname (in fact nothing ending with a vowel does). I put buttercup on the list yesterday just to make me giggle btw, in fb you go into the group, click on photos, then add photos, can copy over from yours or add new.
sinus is horrible, i have just got over sinusitis again grrr. catarrh pastilles help me a lot and they're fine in pg. Olbas, steam inhalations? I'm getting leg cramps at 5am several mornings a week, thank god I remembered someone's brilliant tip on here last time of an oven tray to stand on! There's one by my bedside permanently now!

jabberwocky · 27/06/2008 14:19

I had the sinus thing with ds2. It was awful.

yes, I htink speech can vary widely at this age. We were just talking about how ds1 was speaking in complete sentences at 20 months and ds2 is just now getting comfortable with single words. they're all so different.

Well tomorrow will be my 5th day of work this week and I have decided full-time is definitely too much! I don't know how people do it. 3 or 4 days is really my max atm. The house is a tip and I cna't remember the last time I actually cooked dinner. dh has been good about feeding the boys and half the time I don't feel like eating by the time I get home anyway.

LenniEd · 27/06/2008 20:14

You're right Jabber - it is awful. I went to try and get those catargh things today AQ and my pharmacist wouldn't let me have them. I think I must of looked suitably annoyed with the whole situation as she sympathised and apologised profusely when really it isn't her fault at all! Have just had a nice nap for 3 hours though so feel a bit better. Olbas makes me feel sick for some reason. Steam seems to work, but isn't that practical until after DD goes to bed. Think I'm just going to have to hope it goes - please no one tell me it won't!

I'm not sure how you are managing 5 days of work either Jabber - I struggled with 2 days of uni. Are you enjoying working? I keep thinking about going back to work, but it's going to have to wait until no.2 arrives now.

Can't do the fb photos - nothing appears when I go into photos to say add one. It must be something I'm doing, but can't work out what so have given up for now.

Eli - it will be worth it I'm sure. And a parents evening does actually sound like a wild night out to me. DH and I worked out we have been out without baby once in the last for about 4 months really need to book some babysitting!

LenniEd · 27/06/2008 20:16

Hmmm, think that last sentence should have the words in a different order. Not sure how to make it better.

accessorizequeen · 27/06/2008 20:45

Maybe photos on fb because you're not admin like the rest of us. I'll try and fix lennied. they wouldn't give you catarrh pastilles, I've asked quite a few pharmacists when pg & bf and they were all ok! Weird. I don't like olbas much either urgghh. Having had recurrent sinusitis, gp advised to do steam inhalations morning & evening and it would stop it happening so much so maybe if you persevere it will help? You prob. do this already but I do find getting out of the house makes it much better!

jabberwocky · 27/06/2008 21:02

luckily the full-time deal was only for 2 weeks. It did give me a taste of what some other mothers go through. Definitely not easy.

lennied, have you tried a neti pot? In fact, I never bothered with the actual product, just mixed salt and warm water in a glass, poured some in my hand, stuck my nose in and gave a good sniff! Sounds gross but it can really clear things out. Just don't get the water too salty!

Olihan · 27/06/2008 22:21

fulltime work Jabber? You poor thing. I could never do that, I honestly have no idea how so many women do - I have enough of a struggle running house/kids/dh as a SAHM. Even the likes of Indith and Lennied who are studying too amaze me.

Had a little snigger at Eli's triple post - I gave up on MN last night cos it was so slow!

Ds2 is being a real cutie at the mo, he's into singing and his current favourite is Old MacDonald - 'moo, moo, moo, yeeyiyeeyiyoh' 'baa, baa, baa yeeyiyeeyiyoh' 'woof, woof, woof, yeeyiyeeyiyoh', it's very sweet, he's got the tune down to a tee .

He's also starting on some two word sentences but it's none of this 'all gone' 'bye daddy' business all the books say. No, ds2 shouts 'press play' (car DVD player) 'sit down' as he stands up in his high chair and what sounds distinctly like 'oh shit' but I'm fervently hoping is actually something else .

DS! WENT FOR HIS FIRST AFTERNOON AT SCHOOL ON Tues, sorry, hit caps lock, he loved it but was absolutely shattered when he got home. I'm thinking the first term could involve some massive tiredness induced tantrums..........

Elibean · 28/06/2008 09:55

Oli, sniggered back at the oh shit

Poor Lennied, I had sinusy times at start and end of pg - with about a two month break in the middle. At the end, when I had that awful itching as well, I caved and took some Sinex a couple of times not recommended, but am telling you just to say I understand how awful it is. And very tiring. Wonder if any of the local antihistamine/hayfever sprays are allowed in PG??

Are you all posting photos on FB rather than MN?

I must post some new photos, was going to do it on MN but wlil attempt FB if I absolutely have to

Elibean · 28/06/2008 09:57

dd1 doesn't want to see the things we brought back from Parents Evening. She says 'no, mummy, my body feels all anxious if I think of looking at them because it thinks I'm going to Big School now'.

But my instinct is she's more than ready for it, if yesterday's behaviour is anything to go by

Elibean · 28/06/2008 09:57

Oh, and we now have (as dd1 calls it) a Loft Extinction! Not plastered, plumbed, or wired, but built. Very exciting.

LenniEd · 28/06/2008 13:24

Thanks Eli - I think I'm going to go and see my lovely GP next week as it is interrupting my sleep and DHs sleep, which is a pain since DD has slept through for the last week so we could have been having some good nights for a change.

The loft extinction sounds lovely - the plastering and wiring will be suprisingly quick and painless compared to the knocking holes part if our building work is anything to go by. Once they'd finished the shell of the structure it only took a few days to finish off.

All this talk of school is making me anxious and DD is still a few years off yet! I'm sure DD1 will love it when she gets there Eli, and your DS will quickly adjust to the newness and be less tired Oli. The first few weeks when I was teaching were always the hardest for the new ones, they would perk up after the had got used to the routines.

I did mean FB pictures - I am not inclined to put any on here after I got stalked a while ago. Put me off a little. Have only just got brave enough to put my profile back on.
