March 2007: Babies no longer: the road to Toddlerdom

1000 replies

MrLSG · 01/05/2008 22:50

MrsLSG suggested it, so her it is...

I've observed that calling Toby a baby isn't really accurate anymore, he (as one of the younger March babies - actually being born in April) is now toddlering (or is that staggering?), hence the title of the thread.

Sorry if Dad's aren't allowed around here: But Toby just loved joining in garden football with his big brother and dad earlier tonight.

Super - I have an update : CM gave him a bottle of my milk tody and he drank it.
She later gave him some cows milk and he rejcted it

SuperSillyus · 25/10/2008 09:42

oops your milk is too delicious and unreplaceable! you'll just have to breast feed forever like me

sillybigsausage · 25/10/2008 14:32

..or like that woman on Little Britain...

SuperSillyus · 25/10/2008 18:47

oh no! Don't joke!
I guess like every stage, they get there eventually and they are all different.
I'm hoping to keep going until Hasan is two or so and then I'll try and wean him gently and if that doesn't work I shall consider going cold turkey...but I'm trying to avoid that!

SuperSillyus · 28/10/2008 07:28

oh this thread is limping along now isn't it......

catweazle · 28/10/2008 21:15

Everyone has defected

DD is still BF non-stop; still biting; still not sleeping through.

Tonight she was eating cat food I asked her if she was a cat. She shook her head and pointed to the cat, saying "dat cat"

TheBlonde · 28/10/2008 22:02

I am here briefly
Busy with RL visitors

spookysausage · 28/10/2008 22:28

Person with the best name gets a cyber box of chocs!!!

SuperSillyuswitch · 29/10/2008 08:06

I am still too proud of my usual name to mess it up much
but I don't need to win cyber chocolates!hahaha I won a luxury hamper on here and six months supply of Kenco coffee (still waiting for that)...and I have done a sweety deal with Jay and shall be receiving some snifters very soon hee hee

And I'm off to a masquerade ball on halloween with all the family (though I have a great coldsore on my mouth )
I got a little tuxedo for Hasan to wear on ebay. I shall definately be putting piccies up on facebook

What are you all doing for halloween? Maybe it's a bigger deal over here. It's our fireworks night because we don't do 5th november.

(Think I'm high on the fumes from my new plastic Indian spices table cover...)

kittywise · 29/10/2008 20:37

Hello ladies, I would change my name but it won't let me

explodingsausage · 01/11/2008 22:23

Where is everyone?

explodingsausage · 02/11/2008 19:53

Did anyone go trick or treating?

I went with DD...

The roads were swarming with little witches, monsters and skeletons, plus some grown up witches, including a transvestite with a great pair of legs!!

One house had a real Dalek greeting everyone

another had a green dismembered hand running around the hallway

and other had a mock gravestone in the front garden, with witeherd feet sticking up out of the lawn!!

kiwibella · 02/11/2008 21:42

sounds fab sausage! It is such excitement for the children. I hope that your family enjoyed your halloween night too Silly.

I'm about at my wits end with Kate's sleeping (or lack of). She is screaming away in the bedroom with her dad atm... we have been taking turns for the last hour!! I've been away with dd for the last two nights and apparently she went down fine and slept from 8pm until 5am, cuddle and back to sleep until 8am. I'm furious jealous. While we were away she wasn't interested in feeding, only mistakenly asked hubs once and giggled when she realised he couldn't but I have been a milk-cow since I walked in (achingly full) this afternoon.

Silly... this has made me realise that going cold turkey would be PAINFUL! So, I'm going to have to think about that one. Kate is so persistent though, she gets herself in to a right state while tugging at my clothes.

Any tips for bed-time are appreciated.

Hope that everyone has enjoyed having their dcs around for the half-term break and is looking forward to packing them off tomorrow morning. One more day for MissE.

explodingsausage · 02/11/2008 21:56

Kiwi did ou go for two days without being milked? I'm surprised you didn't explode LOL!!

With DS2 I feed him ONCE now at night - if he wakes more than that I just hiss "Go back to sleep" and he does

I guess Kate is very unsettled as you have been away and wants to feed to feel secure

It might be worth tryng to space out the feeds again in a week or so, once she is settled and secure again?

How is MissE doing?

kiwibella · 02/11/2008 22:13

I did express but I admit that I did leave it until bursting. We were away for two nights but only one day. MissE went to an intensive learning weekend with the local London Maori group. It was brilliant but very mind-consuming.

The thing with Kate's sleeping is that this is how it is normally - upset to bed, waking during the night, erratic sleeping. Hubs got lucky!

We are going to look at properties in Huntingdon on Tuesday. We have to get out of this flat... so out of London we are heading cos we can't afford to stay. It's very exciting.

SuperSillyus · 03/11/2008 13:47

ExplodingSausage that sounds like a fabulous halloweeny time.

We had a great night at the masquerade ball. I lost my camera in the house and wasn't able to take pictures which was really annoying. Hasan looked competely adorable in his tuxedo and I must dress him up again and get a picture to show him off with!

Kiwi I'm not any wiser about the sleep thing but my opinion would be that it seems like you've got into a power struggle with a fiesty young lady.(been there got the tshirt etc)
So I would take a double bluff approach. Maybe let it go for a while and totally pretend that it doesn't matter and that you are not bothered and/or go off duty between fixed times and let hubby take over.

At the moment with Hasan I try to get him off to sleep at the same time as the other two (7pm) which sometimes works and if not I let him run around and bf to sleep downstairs then carry him up and plonk him in bed beside ds2 (but if he's had a second nap there's no chance, he'll be up until 10 or 11).

I am just planning to persevere as things are for a bit longer, hoping he'll keep waking at night less and less. I did the first stage of Dr Jay Gordons night weaning thing so I can feed him and then unlatch him and he'll turn over and go back to sleep himself (rather than using me as a dummy!). And as long as I get about 6 hours sleep I can't be bothered am postponing trying to get him off the night feeding for now!

Your house move plans sound really exciting and good luck with the house hunting tomorrow!

catweazle · 03/11/2008 20:47

I'm aching in sympathy bella..

super I've been looking out for your pictures- wondered why there weren't any. My DD went to nursery dressed as a witch on Friday. They had a lovely party with everyone dressed up (photo on profile and FB)

As for sleeping, she still comes up to bed with me when I go. I've found she sleeps better if we go up nearer 11pm than early Earlier and she mucks about and feeds for an hour. Later and she feeds to sleep then rolls over and tends to sleep until I wake her for nursery at 8am. (sometimes waking at 6am first and going off again)

DS2 came home from uni for the weekend and DD was thrilled to see him. She spent most of the weekend draped around his neck

AMamaForObama · 03/11/2008 20:57

not too far from me kiwi well closer anyway!
How exciting!
No advice re sleep as for some reason Finn is a magical lad these days.

SuperSillyus · 04/11/2008 10:29

Catweazle she looks scrumptious in her halloween outfit and so grown up and little girlish! I hadn't seen her christening picture and she looks beautifull, what a lovely dress.
Her sleeping sounds good. It fits in well with letting you have a nights sleep!

Piffle that is such bad luck, I hope you are all better soon. Nice to have a tan at this time of year! How exciting about the boobs! You'll be feeling all new and hopefully more comfortable in a few months!

Wouldn't it be great if Obama got in! (crosses everything)

kittywise · 04/11/2008 18:55

hello AGAIN

Victorysausages4Obama · 04/11/2008 19:14

Catweazle that is such a cute witch!!!

Kiwi how did the house hunting go?? That Moari weekend sounds amazing!!

Kitty Hi [waves] - how goes it?

Super - I am going with the flow re the feeding too, although Chubs now only feeds once a nioght and sometimes can't be bothered to fdo that. He is kuch improved since the weather turned cold. Me thinks he doesn't want to venture out from under the duver to fed Are you still co-sleeping? (I am)

Mama4Obama love the name (so I have copied you ) - that is terrible news about the pneumonia but I am so glad you had a good break. It will feekl so fabulous to have new boobs. When my friends had her boobs reduced it literally took 10 years off her.

kiwibella · 04/11/2008 22:56

I am so easily confused... I have to read these threads several times for clues as to who is now who I'm a little about the american presidential names... I can't wait for this to be over!

We loved Huntingdon... it was brilliant to be out of London, surrounded by green spaces, see kids on bikes, curtain twitchers yadda yadda yadda. We would take one of the places that we looked at but have time on our side (it's not available to January anyways) so will keep looking. We also stumbled on a Barratt Homes development and fell head-over-heels for one of their homes... the key was in the door so we went in for a nosey!! Unfortunately the sales office was closed so we will follow that up too. They have a scheme whereby they pay the 25% deposit. This credit crunch / surplus of houses must be good for something. The estate is behind the secondary school, which we adored, so it feels right.

Silly - I think you are right about the power-struggle with bed times. I have been less insistent on her going down last night and tonight and it has been much more pleasant. CW... after having spent all day with her I don't think I could handle 11pm (think this is mostly the problem - by 8pm I'm exhausted) but I would make an exception if she was happy and slept through. They didn't have her formula in stock tonight so I brought some of the bed-time stuff as a trial.

I'm off to check out your halloween piccies!!

Hope everyone is smiling .

Victorysausages4Obama · 05/11/2008 07:03

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahay!!!

What a historic Day!!!!!!!!!!!!

SuperSillyus · 05/11/2008 09:18

Kiwi very exciting and productive househunting! It's great that it feels right, I hope everything fits smoothly into place in the next while.

Sausage I am still co sleeping with ds2 and Hasan... so they are well used to cosying up together and eventually I will vacate to my own bed!

Hi Kitty!

I think I shall go and watch the news (for once) and see what everyone is saying now!!
