March 2007: Babies no longer: the road to Toddlerdom

1000 replies

MrLSG · 01/05/2008 22:50

MrsLSG suggested it, so her it is...

I've observed that calling Toby a baby isn't really accurate anymore, he (as one of the younger March babies - actually being born in April) is now toddlering (or is that staggering?), hence the title of the thread.

Sorry if Dad's aren't allowed around here: But Toby just loved joining in garden football with his big brother and dad earlier tonight.

OP posts:

Sorry about your lack of sleep evenhope, bummer.

Diva, what's sorky's name on FB she wanted to have a natter about some ideas and said to go on FB but i don't know what she's called. How come you do? Are you psychic

I walked over the downs 4 miles with 5 children yesterday. We walked from our village to the one where their school is. I feel mighty proud of us all as it's quite a hike for big and little people!!

Rosylily · 04/05/2008 09:28

Diva you are right I think, when I met dh I put on a pound a week! But they are even harder to give up than chocolate

Anyway you look lovely, you probably just have fluid or something. Stop drinking all that coffee you drink! It causes fluid retention. That's you told...now who else can I boss....

I got a migraine last night. Then this morning at 6am I was up with all the littlies dying I took medicine twice and puked up after. Anyway it has mostly cleared now thank goodness! Though I'll be spaced out all day now.

Just read the witch of portobello by Paulo coelho so I'm into witchery at the moment!

Hasan took 3 or 4 steps yesterday so he's getting there slowly.

evenhope · 04/05/2008 10:22

Can I run an AIBU past you ladies? Yesterday morning I went upstairs to wash my hair, leaving DD with DH. Came back down to get a towel in time to see DD sitting at the top of the stairs flapping the open stairgate (it's one of those attached to the wall).

Moved her, shut it quick and shouted to/ at DH in the bathroom that he'd left her by an open gate (and shut the gate back into the livingroom).

Instead of the response of a normal person- I'm sorry. I didn't check it. Is she OK?- he shouts at me that it's my fault for "not insisting that it is shut all the time"

Basically he thinks that we should all shut all the gates all the time, even if the baby isn't around and we are going up and down stairs with armsful of washing/ cups etc (oh I forgot, he doesn't take armsful of washing upstairs..). While I can see his point it isn't really necessary as long as people check they are shut when DD is there.

Then he went off on a long rant that he could never do anything right and he might as well not be here because I keep moaning. I'd been up 10 minutes and we hadn't even spoken to each other until that point. What is he on? Or is it me?

kittywise · 04/05/2008 11:05

evenhope, that's so typical of a man. He knows he's messed up but instead of going guilty he blames it on the woman. (d)p does the same.
He'd rather have his arms and legs pulled off than ever admit to being wrong about anything. It is always my fault . But I know it's not and I think he is sad.

Hey can you tell that I don't like men ATM?

Divastrop · 04/05/2008 11:37

evenhope-you are so not being unreasonable.its common sense to shut the gate when the baby is around.we have a gate on the computer room(it leads to the kitchen and the gate keeps them away from wires etc as well as the cooker)which we leave open after the lo's have gone to bed.even ds2 who is not even 5 yet knows to shut the gate when the babies are around

kitty-i have sent you a message on FB with sorky's name.she found me on the MN group 'whats your MN name?' discussion.

rosy-its really not the coffee lol.i can tell when i have water retention,i get all puffy and put on 5lbs in a day.i was drinking twice as much coffee as i do now back when i was a size 8.i alternate coffee with herbal tea now.

right,dd2 is not well and is falling asleep in her highchair.i think i will stick them in the buggy and take them for a walk in the rain.

bethoo · 04/05/2008 11:49

hello all and welcome Kayz. been off line for a while with some sort of sickness, on ABs now as the nausea was bloody awful and could not keep anything down!

this thread title is depressing as only this mornign Hayden was stood up looking so big (all 17 lbs of him!! ) and realised that he is no longer my little baby anymore!! it goes so fast. it is scary as the older he gets the less control i have of over hsi safelty and welfare iykwim, not long before he is facing the big bad world! better get the stock in for bubble wrap.

fitfox · 04/05/2008 13:37

Evenhope - all men are asses and your example just proves my point. How dos he turn it round to be your fault???

eggonlegs · 04/05/2008 14:27

Hi, sorry to hi-jack your page. My DS was born on the 4th March 07 and have throughout my pregnancy and beyond followed the thread and feel I know you all vicariously. Life's too busy and you all know each other so well it never felt like the right time to join in but I finally though I'd say hello and stop being rude just snooping. I've also just noticed that Theblonde is from my local area.

Jaysfinished · 04/05/2008 15:13

never too late to join eggonlegs....you get the regulars on here - those with nothing better to do that ramble on about nothing..... did i say that..lol and those who dip in and out...bit like me, so don't feel out of it.

Thanks to those of you who have dipped onto my thread ( re softplay) i have accumulated loads of ideas, some good some bad but its good to know what people like and dislike about it all!!

How is everyone and their little ones??

Divastrop · 04/05/2008 15:32

jay,@ nothing better to do.i'll have you know that this is the only contact i get with other humans who are over the age of 10 and dont have their heads permanently up their arses.i have plenty better to do but my therapist keeps going on about the importance of taking time out for oneself

welcome eggonlegs

foxy/evenhope-every man ive ever known has had the ability to take no responsibility for anything theyve done/havent done/should have done ever.maybe thats why senior managers and company directors are mainly male,as they are so good at passing the buck.

i dont like man atm either

kayzisexpecting · 04/05/2008 18:01

We went to the supermarket today and DS was crying to get out of his pushchair. So we let him out and he walked round while holding my hand. As I work there, DS knows most of the people there and he kept walking to them. I do think he is more proud of himself than DH and I am of him.

I must break the trend and say I like men well DH at the minute as he let me have a long sleep today. I didn't feel this tired with DS I'm sure.

kittywise · 04/05/2008 18:39

kayz, it's just sods' law that you don't realise how lucky you are when pg for the first time. No one else to worry about, snooze/rest when you want etc. You just don't appreciate it until the next one comes, and then the next and the next and the next and the next...................

kayzisexpecting · 04/05/2008 18:47

Yeah I used to just have a nap when I was expecting DS but I cant really now.

I just had a nosey at your profile. 6 kids! Wow, we'd like 4 but we're not too sure yet.

It seems really wierd that DS is going to be a big brother.

Rosylily · 04/05/2008 19:57

Bethoo that sounds awful! I'm glad you are on the mend, much sympathy. How's your bump?

Evenhope just put big giant pieces of cotton wool in your ears and pretend you can't hear him, that's what I'm planning to use as protection against man-draining-spirit-of-woman disease

Hi eggonlegs I think I've seen you about because your funny name rings a bell. What was in the water? So many of us had boys last March! Is he your first or do you have other children?

Diva do you like the herbal tea? I find it smells lovely but tastes.....well it doesn't taste! I have been converted to yogi tea licorice, yum yum yum.

Jaysfinished! are you inferring that perhaps, I ramble on about nothing! okay maybe I do but I definately do have better things to do...a big list of stuff....

Kayz it changes so much with the next child I think. It is lovely for them to have a brother or sister, definately much more hard work but it's worth it. Their nose is put out of joint for a bit. I found that the children adore the new baby but miss my full attention alot. That takes a bit of adjusting to.

Piffle · 04/05/2008 19:58

welcome eggs!
Men ah mine is a sweetie atm we had my brother, fiancée her friend husband and 15 mth old dd and my mum over today for bbq. Was lovely!
Finn outside all day we find this necessary to stimulate him. Inside all he will do is climb on the couch and fling himself around alarmingly...
meanwhile the washing piles up, the dishes also, nothing and I mean nothing gets done...
so chuck him outside at first light
gosh am tired today. Toddlers wow like little balls if Herculean stamina and force!

bethoo · 04/05/2008 19:59

thanks Rosy bump is coming along rather quickly!!! only 18 weeks so scan in two. really is going so much faster than last time!!!

Jaysfinished · 04/05/2008 23:15

thought i might get some comments on my remarks !! hehe of course i was only joking...!

i should be in bed, someone get me off of this dam pc!!

eidsvold · 04/05/2008 23:42

finally - I am somewhat up to date on the thread - I seemtos tart out that way and then you lot get going and I lose the plot along the way.

Funny - I was just thinking yesterday - no more babies in our house. Dd3 is a toddler. Not a lot of toddling going on although she did wander a few steps past me the other day. I was laying on the bed eyes closed after a nightmare day when I felt I should open them. As I did, dd3 wandered past.

Her finger has healed nicely - can't remember if I told you about her getting it sliced open in a door slam. She will have a fabulous scar that she will be able to guilt dd2 with. Dd3 was a nightmare to keep the dressing and bandage on. Finally Friday she took it off - it is all closed and healed really well so I just left it off. Off to see plastic surgeon for our follow up appt from A and E - am sure they will not want to to anything.

Not much else happening in our place - just the usual madness in a house full of girls.

Rosylily · 05/05/2008 08:42

Piffle that sounds like an lovely day you had. I do love this time of year. How is your kitchen problem?

Eids I'm so glad the finger healed up nicely.

Bethoo are you going to find out the sex at the scan then?

Jay 'many a truth is told in jest' must admit my kitchen was tidier when I was off line for 3 months!

Hasan looks like a dalmation. Dd either has loads of chicken pox in her mouth or ulcers.

ReverseThePolarity · 05/05/2008 09:23

Hello all...

Diva thanks for making me step away from bf/ff arguments (oranges??? ) and come back to the shelter of this nice happy place!!

Hi Kayz!!

Will try to get chance to write properly in a bit but I have been catching up on all your msgs.

Rosy that is exactly how I feel about my dh too, you have hit the nail on the head!!

See yez all in a bit!

xx

Divastrop · 05/05/2008 11:35

rosy-i mainly drink dandelion or nettle tea,and green tea before i go to bed as i read somewhere its meant to help with weight loss(its only 69p for 20 bags and tastes nice so i figured it was worth a try)

reverse-glad to see you on here.some of the crap people come out with on those bf/ff threads makes me laugh.

Elsie is able to climb onto the sofa now,but likes to come down head first.she dived head first over the arm of the sofa yeaterday and now has a lovely bruise n her head.im sure it will be the first of many now the climbings started

kayzisexpecting · 05/05/2008 15:09

Hello everyone.

We've just got back from the soft play centre. DS loved it as it was empty and he had the full run of the place.

Diva-I know exactly what you mean about getting of the sofa head first, we keep having to turn Freddie round and make him get off feet first. I don't think he is quite learning though.

evenhope · 05/05/2008 19:59

eids how lovely you opened your eyes just in time

Diva DD fell out of bed again this morning. She had just woken up and wandered down the bed. I came out of the bathroom just one second too late to catch her as she rolled off the edge

Of course, although her body fell on the pillow we keep on the floor by the bed for this scenario, her face hit the one clear piece of carpet. She did scream.

Took her to the zoo this afternoon. She was amazed and entranced by the elephants.

fitfox · 05/05/2008 20:18

Hi Eggs - love the name

Kitty - when you are PG the first time you feel too over-awed/stressed to enjoy putting your feet up. For every PGcy after that you don't have time to put your feet up anyway.

Proof that God/nature is a bloke

If God were a woman, men would be worshipping us and massaging our footsies each time we gave birth and would have made sure we have access to free universal child care

fitfox · 05/05/2008 20:20

Eids what a magical moment when DD3 toddled past
