Meant to say Pesha, your night out sounds eventful - how is your friend?

Pesha · 04/05/2008 10:03

D's had some very yukky nappies this am, very clingy and crying at little things and has that sickly sweet smell on his breath they get when they're poorly

Lol at randy men SOL They were that too!!!

D whinging at me now. Only good thing is yesterday afternoon he slept for 3 hours which he never does so I could sleep too!!

mammyjo · 04/05/2008 10:06

Morning all. Happy Birthday Charlie and Danny!

Pesha, your night out sounds interesting!! Hope your friend is ok. Glad you like the car How is D this morning?

SOL, glad to hear you got a lie in! Dh has gone off fishing (again) so no lie in for me. I am very down at him just now.

Liath, I know you are up the mountain so probably won't read this, but hope it is going well!!

Elkie, hope you and dp are ok this morning and you both enjoy the day with D

POTC, I read your post about the gf and it really does put a different perspective on things. I actually felt sorry for her with J going in what should have been the nursery for her baby Doesn't excuse the way she behaved, but kind of gives reasoning for it. It's great that you were prepared to give them a second chance.

CD, glad Center Parcs was good and you enjoyed the break

SPB, poor little T. Can't believe he has diarrhoea again. Don't think it would be the antibiotics, you see the effects when they are taking them and maybe a day or two after. I would go with your instincts re the nursery. Are there other places around that you could look at?

mammyjo · 04/05/2008 10:09

x post. Hi Pesha Hope D picks up again later, poor little man

Sexonlegs · 04/05/2008 10:22

Morning MJ.

Grrr at bloody fishing. Can't he just nip down to Tesco's and get some???

SPB, doesn't sound food related from what he is having from you. Has there been a bug going round at nursery? Our nursery always has a notice of what is going around.

Pesha, hope D picks up.

StealthPolarBear · 04/05/2008 10:48

Poor little D, hope he sleeps it off today.
Wonder how oooggs's DH is getting on!
Well T doesn't seem too bad, only a tiny bit of diarrhoea this morning at 8ish and none since. Really hope it was a short thing! Nurseries, when we were deciding there were 2 we loved, so we'd try to get him in the other one, depending on availability, failing that I am warming to the idea of a CM. elkie, how many did you go and see before you chose? I think a CM is either going to be much better than a nursery (i.e. as professional but still homely) or worse (not loving with the kids and not as professional as nursery) so I either love the idea or hate it. IYSWIM, but probably not What I suppose I'm saying is the 'professionalism' of a nursery can be both a good thing and a bad thing, elkie, when you talk about your CM it's like you're leaving D with a trusted friend.
Anyway, hopefully we'll get him into the new nursery - they are closer to work and have a much nicer outside play area (they're situated in farmland).

StealthPolarBear · 04/05/2008 10:52

Sol, when I ask them if there's something going round, they vaguely answer yes, as they seem to do with everything.
For example, I'm trying to do BLW with T. I mentioned that initially, and they wrote down I would prefer him to just be given finger food and to feed himself. Now, tbh, at the moment I couldn't give a stuff whether they BLW or spoon feed him, whatever's easiest and gets food into him, however when I asked about this they seemed to have no idea I had even mentioned this - despite it being written on his formal "initial interview" form (the one where you talk about allergies and medical conditions!!!)
They hyped up the fact that they brush teeth after every meal. I brought a toothbrush in on his first day, I have a sneaking suspicion that when I take him out I will get it back in the blister pack. Again, not too fussed, we are only getting to the stage where we brush his teeth in the morning as well as on the night but again it's just where the actions don't match up to the talk.
Wow I needed that rant! And T is getting another tooth, which is good as he looks a bit lopsided with 3 on top - this will even him out

StealthPolarBear · 04/05/2008 11:00

Well, better go, have a party in 2 hours
Hope the birthday boys enjoy their day!

CaptainDippy · 04/05/2008 11:17

Enjoy party SPB

Hope everything goes really well today Elkie and that you and DP sort stuff out ok. xx

Poor D Pesha Hope the wee man is better soon. xx Sounds like a rather random night with your random men Hope your friend J is ok after her head bump, poor thing. Don't feel guilty - just get an early one in tonight, young lady!!

I am just doing smoe work while P is sleeping and DH is killing entertaining the other two; then we are going out for picnic lunch with friends.

Happy Birthday Runny's Joshua

Good Luck with the party SPB

Pesha - hope D feels better soon.

Pesha · 04/05/2008 12:57

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOSHUA!!

Dippy hope you have a nice picnic

SPB - I would definitely recommend at least looking into CMs. They are monitored and regulated just as much as nurseries with mountains of paperwork to do and records to keep. Also my friend who is a CM has done loads of training courses and I think they are offered all sorts of courses either for free or minimal cost ao I would imagine most CMs who've been doing it a while would have done these too. Obviously depends on the CM and the child but it can be a realbenefit to have them in a home setting and develop a real bond with just the one carer iyswim. DD I'm sure would have loved nursery and really flourished but I know N would have struggled with the more rigid routine of it and also was a very cuddly, affectionate, loving boy (DD was cuddly and affectionate obviously but in a less dependant, obsessive way!) and wouldn't have coped so well having a number of carers who may well come and go and change as he changes rooms etc and I think D is similar in that respect. Having read raising boys (which I think you've read too?) it does seem to be more of a boy thing and I think he does suggest CMs over nursery for boys although obviously its not always best for all boys!

D's been ok this morning thanks all for asking. We were meant to be going J's GP's for sunday lunch but D and I have stayed behind as he'll prob sleep now and is quite up and down, fine 1 minute grouchy the next and any excuse to get out of going to the house where time stands still!!

Pesha · 04/05/2008 12:59

Sexonlegs · 04/05/2008 19:34

Hi folks

GM, glad you had such a good day. Sounds exhausting. How is C today?

Elkie, how did your day go?

Oooggs, hope the lo's enjoyed their bike ride

Hi Caz, hope you got to watch the Badminton trials.

Liath, how was your walking in the mountains today?

Pesha, how is D now?

God, brain emptied now.

Had a great day despite my rude comments about our "friends".

How is everyone else?

Pesha · 04/05/2008 20:12

N came back from GGP's and was sick
Put him up to bed, he did go sleep but then woke up. I went up to him and asked if he was ok,

N: yeah

Me: well the jugs right there if you need it

N: ok

Me: are you going to be sick

N: No

Me:you sure?

N: yeah

I turn my back to leave

N: Bluuuurgh

as he pukes all over my bed

And hes just been sick again half way through me writing this and just as i finished clearing that up D was sick Could be a fun night And both of them now refusing to go sleep, in fact N so wide awake I've bought him back downstairs again and he crawling around playing. J has said N can sit downstairs for a while as he doesn't want to go to sleep yet so we've just told M she can come back down for a while too otherwise it not really fair as she was sat upstairs reading the argos catalogue on her own!! They're watching Raiders of the Lost Ark!!

Pesha · 04/05/2008 20:14

They're now not watching Raiders of the lost Ark cos i'd forgotten how scary it is for a little boy who has nightmares so I made J turn it over!!
