Btks, I always get really confused by other people celebrating mine and DH's anniversary . Maybe it's just because I'm rubbish and sending out cards in general, but I wonder why anyone else (for that read my family) would want to celebrate a very personal day .

Ok, help needed on raising boys. Miniman is driving me mad, he is a whirlwind of destruction, he doesn't listen (think he gets that from DH!), he's hard to discipline, he always runs off in the opposite direction, and cannot be trusted with anything! Noo was never like this, and I often feel like a bit of a failure when I can't handle him that well. Everyone I've spoken to just says it's a boy thing, so hints and tips on handling boys greatly appreciated.

ChaCha · 19/08/2008 23:23

Hi girls,

Have missed you all! Hope everyone is well, have only managed a quick skim through posts so apologies in advance if i've missed anything.

Nova - Used the P&T properly for first time today and it was great! Bought a cocoon yesterday and mastered the toddler seat and all the attachments. Am v.pleased with it, definitely different from the Jane Power Twin

Good days and not so good days here, b/f hasn't been going as well as i'd hoped as baby's weight has been static since Thursday - or at least it was on Monday but b/f clinic was great and latch seems to have improved so will see what m/w says tomorrow and go from there. Boys have taken to him fine although DS2 has his moments. 3 under 3 definitely a good diet as i realise some days that breakfast for me comes around at 3pm and then wonder why i'm hungry

I am shattered but wanted to post so i'll be off to bed while baby sleeps - had forgotten how tiring night feeds are and just seem to get comfy and into la la land as DS2 stumbles awake across the landing... love to you all and will post again soon xxx

ChaCha · 19/08/2008 23:24

nova - you could be describing ds2 - will be back soon x

feetheart · 20/08/2008 08:36

Just quickly - Nova best advice I got about boys (and I think it was from BTKS) was that they are like puppies and need a good walk at least once a day. Certainly true about A who was Mr Physical from Day 1.

Need to feed them, hopefully back later.

PS Lovely to hear from you ChaCha, I am in complete awe at 3 under 3

mypandasgotcrabs · 21/08/2008 16:12

Nova, my nursery nurse says that type of behaviour is very typical of 2nd children. It's a case of them trying to assert themselves & make htemselves the boss apparently. She's really good, she's been coming round, she does things supernanny style, but in little snippets every fortnight. She says I do everything right, just that Sean is a very determined, strong child, and I just need that support & encouragement to know that I am doing things the right way, and eventually I will get through to him.

Hi girls

Feetheart really sorry but am going to have to drop out of the zoo visit as dh has decided we're going to Drayton Manor on Friday on the way up to Leeds so unfortunately can't afford to do both. Will definetly be up for a half term visit though.

Hope everyone is well Beks

mypandasgotcrabs · 21/08/2008 19:21

Ooh, I'd better not tell Owen that you guys are going to Drayton Manor, he really wants to go!

OP posts:
BTKsmum · 21/08/2008 21:00

Lol, I'll let you know what its like and perhaps we could do it again at half term!!!

AmIWhatAndWhy · 22/08/2008 20:54

Hi to everyone. Sorry I've been rubbish at catching up with all the news.

Chacha, you continue to amaze me, wonderful photos too.

We have some things in place for O, hearing/blood test appts etc but are still thinking we might see a private salt even though it will cripple us financially.

DP saw tex in the park recently and it turns out her DD and O are going to the same preschool, so it's quite a nice thought they will be 'school friends'

I will be back catching up properly, I promise. Right now I'm taking advantage of a peaceful house and about to make some proper tea and have biscuits in front of big brother

ChaCha · 22/08/2008 22:11

Ami - Tea and biscuits....ahhhh! Yes please! I don't think i replied to your earlier post though i read it and took it all in - duh! How are your little ones anyway? Do you have pics up on FB? If so must have a look..

BTKS - Hope you are well and that you have had some peace and quiet tonight. DH went away yesterday morning (back Sunday) and am pleased to report boys have been going to bed just after 8pm. I want to do so much when they're asleep but then i keep fretting that one of them will keep me awake in the night and that i should grab some sleep while i can...oh well, living dangerously i guess!

Nova - How are you? Are you partying Notting Hill style? I notice that some of my friends who live in LG have joined a Notting Hill carnival group on FB. Guessing Noo will really enjoy it.

Today went well, we had a real good run around and played in the park for ages. Took the bus home and struggled a little to get off at my stop as there was another pushchair on by this time and i couldn't maneouvre around pole. I didn't expect anyone to help me or make it easy for me but what i really didn't expect was an elderly lady screaming at the top of her voice about how my pushchair should be banned from buses and other nasty random comments!!! i really wanted to retaliate but decided getting off the bus was more important...what is wrong with people?!? I can't believe some of the things she said...easy prey i guess, a mother with 3 small children in an obvious fluster trying to get off bus Anyway...hope i don't meet her again grrrr.

Feetheart/BB/Rodeo/Panda and everyone else.....[big wave] xx

novadandypowder · 24/08/2008 19:20

Thanks for all the reassurances ladies, especially Panda. He is beginning to listen, although I have to repeat something at least 10 times before he takes notice. I tried him with reins, but he just sits down on the street in protest! I'm very lucky I can trust noo so much with roads, because my eyes are always on miniman.

Can't believe we've been invited to the second wedding this year that isn't allowing children . We have no-one to leave the kids with so it means we can't go. I wasn't too fussed about one of them because it was a work colleague of DH's, but the one in October is a really good mate from uni .

Rodeo · 26/08/2008 22:00

Sorry to be such a stranger...
Nova, oh read your post about miniman, can totally emphasise! I'm not sure if it's a 2nd child or boy thing but as most of our 2nd children are boys we don't know! They are a totally different kettle of fish to girls, not better or worse just different. I've always felt Joe's testing and pushing me to the limit, but I've slowly come to realise I shouldn't take it personally, to calm down and not get upset. Dp doesn't see a problem, which makes me think there isn't one. He can't handle losing or not getting his way, he can be an arrogant show-off and a hooligan, and totally pathetic when asked to help out. But isn't that most men? Miniman will be a lovely little polite boy (for most of the time ) That's rubbish about the weddings If I lived closer I would have them, wedding's not in Derby is it?!
Oh Chacha, wish I lived closer to you too - what an awful old hag I'd bloody have a few choice words for her. Am in awe your tackling buses, you are my hero! Make sure you're getting enough rest though my lovely, don't want you getting exhausted
AmI - let us know how O gets on Nice to her about O and Tex's dd too, that's lovely.
Beks, have a fab time at Drayton Manor! The boys will love it, it's really great for their age range Are you gutted Scrabble has been taken off FB?!
Hello Panda, Feety and BB!
Not much news here, the combine harvesters have been up and down all day today, think they're finally getting the last of the crop in, They were out there til 11.30 the other night, and they're still up at dawn, busy times.
Right better go, we're off on holiday on Friday so might not get on before. Off to sunny Devon, fingers crossed! Enjoy the last of the summer hols guys, speak soon x x x

BTKsmum · 26/08/2008 23:12

Hi girls

Hope you all had a great bank holiday weekend. The kids did really well in their garden sale making £28 in 2 hours, so we had two happy 6 year olds with £14 each in their pockets My friend and I did a boot fair on the sunday for them and we took £100 just on toys, which we virtually gave away, so we were well pleased.

Chacha that woman on the bus was just a miserable old witch don't let her get to you, daft old bat probably gets enjoyment out of being rude to others.

Nova thats pants about the wedding, I'd be happy to have them, or sit them for a few hours if they'd be happy to stay with me.

As for raising little boys, I've found mine to be wilful, destructive, naughty and difficult to discipline, but they do go through phases of this and as long as you persevere, you will get through to miniman. Unfortunately my two only ever respond to shouting, which makes me sound like a harridan. Both of them are very different which makes handling them tricky, Ben will tantrum whereas Tom will be defiant with most sentences ending with crossed arms, a frown and the statement "I'm not ??????? anymore"

The best advice I can give you is to keep everything simple with boys, with them everything is black and white, don't give them too many choices, they can't cope with them. They need straight forward simple instructions to follow and not more than one or two at a time at the very most. They don't react to things emotionally like us girls, where we see every shade of grey and they are easier to distract, which is often the better course of action than discipline, which can be instilled slowly and consistently as you go along.
Hope that helps and yes I did say to Feety make sure you take them out every day for a damn good run to burn off some of the willfullness and energy [Grin]

Hope everyone else is ok and enjoying / surviving the summer holidays. Not long to go now phew! Love to all Beks

BTKsmum · 28/08/2008 16:31

Was it something I said?

mypandasgotcrabs · 28/08/2008 19:22

lol Beks, it has been very quiet round here of late. Says me who hasn't posted in ages!

Not for any real reason, have been off on dates and dating websites, he hee!

Really not much to report here, xp still begging me to take him back , it's almost a year now.

Anyway, hope everyone's ok, love to all xx

BrownieBells · 28/08/2008 21:29

Hello all! Tis I, the prodigal Brownie!!
Have been on courses and hols over the last 3 weeks, so hence not much time for posting. Thanks for the birthday greetings to those who FB'd me - twas a lovely gesture and I was touched.
Holiday in Devon was cloudy most of the time and somewhat wet, but with the occasional sunny spell - so was very good. T had a fab time, particularly liked puddle jumping and digging on the beach (in all weathers!).

VERY PROUD MUMMY MOMENT - with no real effort - T went on hols in nappies - and came back in pants!!!! He still wears nappies for sleeps time and on long car journeys - but the rest of the time is in pants and he has been an absolute star. AM soooo proud of him. No real need to take potties anywhere either, as he has gone straight to toilets - and is happy to perch on a public loo seat (altho it does set my teeth on edge!) and do his business!!! Bless his cottons - he is growing up So fast! Am going to now step up the pace with the ttc no 2, as the sands are fast running out methinks!

Nova - with regards to disciplining boys - I echo all already said.... T only really responds to distraction (for tantrums) or for willful naughtiness - I resort to the I am not going to talk to you or play with if you continue to do that - this almost always results in an apology, kiss & hug and the behaviour stops - he hates being ignored.

Hope all others are well - AMI - don't think I've found you on FB - are you willing to be my friend? you could find me through Chacha or BTKs or Panda or Rodeo or Nova if you want?

Right off for now - ooh and have you all ordered your next Organised Mum diaries yet? I have done mine, can't wait!!

Love to all
Brownie x

ChaCha · 28/08/2008 22:12

Hey everyone!
At last....some posts to catch up on!! Good to see you all.

Re: toilet training, DS1 started asking for the toilet when i was in the hospital and so ILs and mum encouraged him & he's been pretty good to date. Doesn't seem to like clothes much and runs around butt naked in the garden. Caught him peeing the other day - started on one slab of concrete and then proceeded to the others, i think he was making patterns or something and holding his wee until he jumped to the next one - i wasn't sure how to react but DS2 was much amused and kept shouting 'pee pee there and there' Boys!

We are doing okay, DS1 is doing well considering he has had two siblings appear in hs little life. Hoping to start the Jolly Phonics soon as we have covered numbers and colours through play but should probably make a start on that asap. DS2 goes along with whatever we're doing and loves everything that his bigger brother does. As for the baby, feeding round the clock, have just given him a top up so that i can type with two hands and get to bed.

Hope i've not waffled too much
Nova - DS2 is very much the same. I am feelin sorry for him though today, my mum was right about middle children, so much attn given to the older and the younger - i really have to try to equal the attention and love to all.

For those of you with more than one are your kids best of friends one minute and enemies the next? DS1 and 2 will hold hands, kiss, hug, play togehter, read etc.. and then they are on the floor biting, wrestling or even worse, pushing each other off their bikes and being really mean!!!!

i best be off.....free time can be a thread killer..... and happy belated b'day BB - xx

mypandasgotcrabs · 31/08/2008 13:43

Hey ChaCha, nice to see a post from you. Did you enjoy your quiet night last night with just ds3?

I'm having a little break from tidying atm. Have dumped hte boys on xp while I get a bit f tidying and sorting done! Have done quite a bit, am impressed wiht myself lol!

Had a good day out with them at Chessington yesterday, is years since I've been there, ds2 was a little horror, which is unusual for him when we're out, but the queues were long, and unfortunately not themed, so nothing to really keep him entertained while queuing, but they both enjoyed themsleves,a dn Sean absolutely loved the Runaway Train, he's a litttle nutter, and had his arms in the air on the smugglers galleon thing, and this one not only swung, but span too!

Hope eveyone's well, and gettng ready for the return to school/nursery?

Happy Birthday ChaCha!

Hope everyone is well.

I'm just trying to resume order after a chaotic weekend. We decorated the DC's room, which involved moving everything into the living room. It was a nightmare but it looks lovely! We are now debating whether to put up the wallpaper we bought for the chimney breast. It's gorgeous Christian Lacroix kids stuff, and we are worrying that tiny fingers will rip it off so we might save it until they are bigger.

BrownieBells · 01/09/2008 21:14

Happy Birthday Chacha

Sssshhhhh...............................am probably not supposed to be telling you guys this........................................ but did a pgtest on Friday.............................................................................................. ................................................................................[g rin] [gri n]

BTKsmum · 01/09/2008 21:38

Yay Massive Congratulations Brownie, what a clever girl, do you get a special badge to sew on for this!!!! Well done T on your potty training too, what a clever boy.

Happy Birthday Chacha hope you've had a lovely b'day. As for the boys being best friends one minute and the worst of enemies the next - yep my wo are like it all the time they also have started to play fight all the time and have got increasingly noisy, so just go with the flow

AMI the room sounds lovely, bet the kids are thrilled, think you might be right about the scratching fingers though

Panda glad you had a good day at Chessington, my kids found the queues at Drayton Manor taxing too. Its a good day out but a flaming long way to go, would definitely advise staying over the night before, we got there at 10:30am in time for the rides to start and it was absolutely heaving.

We had a good weekend in Leeds, Rodeo I ended up going down the A38 and saw a sign post to your area, was going to pop in for coffee

Hope everyone else is well, love to all Beks

AmIWhatAndWhy · 02/09/2008 19:21

Big congratulations!

Lovely news.

ChaCha · 03/09/2008 14:15

Oh BB!!!!!!
What absolutely fantastic news!!!!!!!
I am so excited for you
Well done...whooo hooooo.....

[chacha gets all broody lol] BB - How are you feeling? Keep us posted, i'm happy to hear all your news

Thank you for b'day wishes ladies, it was the strangest birthday ever TBH. It fell on the 1st day of Ramadan so we didn't do anything and waited until sunset which when it came around was exhausted and retired to bed with DS3, a cup of tea and choux bun!! How my life has changed!

Decorating sounds lovely Ami, was shocked to read about the wipes
BTKS - sounds like a good day out, is Thomas up at Drayton? Thomas the tank that is.

All DC are still napping so making the most of it. Back later...

[chacha jumps up and down for BB]
