helibee · 19/03/2008 09:50

james, Callum is the same in the m&p sit and step activity station-he'll even let me go to the toilet and the kitchen without making me feel like his world has falen apart just cos i stepped out of the room

Meandmyjoe · 19/03/2008 09:57

Thanks for being so welcoming! Yeah he does OK when he's sat up on his own and likes playing with household objects such as a cullender and a wooden spoon! He's getting better actually, just sometimes has a bad couple of hours after his last nap and before bedtime as he's completely knackered but refuses to nap for any more than half an hour three times day unless in the car! He likes being carried around a lot and shown things and is rather inquisitive about everything! He's such a little character though and I've been assured by other mumsnetters who have had similar babies that he will lighten up dramaically once he can crawl.

I'll keep going with the finger foods. i just panic a bit! He enjoys some purees aswell though but won't have anything remotely lumpy from a spoon! I'm sure this will pass though, he's very young- got plenty of time to discover the true fabness of food, which I'm sure he will eventually inherrit from his mummy!!!

Thanks again, just off to check out all your profile pictures now!

Meandmyjoe · 19/03/2008 10:01

Oh my goodness, you're babies are all so beautiful! I still think mine looks a bit like phil mitchell!

helibee · 19/03/2008 10:13

just a thought, if you panic if or when he gags try smiling even if you're petrified as it'll help him to relax. We just give C pretty much the same as what we eat, partly as he looks at our plates, then his own just to make sure we're not fobbing him off , also we kinda thought it'd make it easier in the long run.

I'm going to try C again with youghurt and protect the walls and carpet for when he flicks the spoon everywhere before putting it in his mouth (the joys of weaning )

oh and meandmyjoe-your wee one is gorgeous-def NOTHING like phil mitchell

helibee · 19/03/2008 10:14

I hope this works as a link to Callums video on youtube-here goes width="425" height="350">

Hersetta · 19/03/2008 12:13

Wow helibee, Callum is doing really well with his walking.

Knickers - great bump. Not sure mine was so nice even at full term.

I'm having the same gagging problems with Caitlin. Sometimes she spits out things she can't swallow and other times she just swallows them and gags- Twice last week she swallowed small things (one of them was a tiny piece of soft cucumber - no skin) and then immediately vomitted exorcist style over herself and me. I think I was more distressed than she was. Yesterday however she completely demolished an entire dried pear and was quite happily chewing on it and then swallowing small pieces - so hopefully she is learning.

I've updated my profile with a couple of recent photos of Caitlin.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 19/03/2008 12:31

LOL, don't they all look a bit like phil mitchell/alfed hitchcock at first??? even the girls! James looks vaguely like neil kinnock! No pics on my profile at the moment, but here's one showing the emotional rollercoaster that is your very first icecream.

I live about ten minutes from Penycae I think, don't know it very well though. Not to worry about the bidders pulling out, I think it was for the best since they were so skittish. 100 watchers and about 3 hours to go.

Helibee Callum is great at walking, and that was three months ago?! And so cute. James has been standing up with help from two months but it's never occurred to him to actually move his feet. We try to walk him about by pulling his hands slowly but he just kinda leans, leeaans, leeeeeeeaaaaaans, wobbles, and ends up sat on his bum! Didn't know you were scottish! Love the vids as you can nosey on all the accents. I sound well gormless on mine!

Agree with helibee on the not looking worried when he gags. Best thing I found was to do silly faces and say "spit it out then" and he always laughs and spits it out and eats it again. Lovely.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 19/03/2008 12:32

Dried pear eh, hersetta? sounds good, we'll have to try that since he LOVES pears in any form.

OP posts:
Hersetta · 19/03/2008 13:11

Same here james - it is her favourite thing ever (espically pureed pear frozen lolly). Only £1 or so from the supermarket for a bid bag that last ages. These were her first finger food which she used to suck to death untill she could get small pieces off, now however with two teeth she can bite off much bigger pieces!

My2Weegirls · 19/03/2008 13:11

hey all
hi meandmyjoe - glad you popped in! i sometimes wonder if the gagging is due to the consistency of the lumpier jars. with my dd1 she never did take them and even now will not eat lumpy stuff. with dd2 when i'm giving her lumpy jars i add a bit of water so that it's not quite as thick.

helibee - am impressed with callum's walking. i'm going back to work part-time 28hours a week.

james - glad to be of some help. hope it's all quiet today. how's the auction going/gone? got to pay the bills so got to go back - looking forwrad to being 'me' for a few hours a day and not 'mum'. my childminder does lots of stuff with the kids. all the things i hate - coffee mornings, toddlers etc. so from that point of view it's great.

need to go - pooopy pants

tasha22 · 19/03/2008 13:31

Yay my moan about the money was unnecessary, it sold for a very good price (more than I expected) so I'm really happy. Now just have to arrange to meet the guy who has bought it and get the money off him. Can't wait to pay the bills off and shut the companies up.

Yeah, all quiet today my2weegirls, thanks for asking. Yesterday was just a huge stressfest, I also managed to have a row with my brother (we're fine now) one of those days I spose! Just looked at the moon at the top of the oage... is it almost a full moon, or has it just been one?

Forgot to say, meandmyjoe- he's gorgeous, even if he is a grumpydrawers!

OP posts:
My2Weegirls · 19/03/2008 15:49

pleased for you james.

i didn't know there was a moon at the top of the pahe

tasha - your poor ds2. is he upset/ill with it? how are you? have you had/got your appt yet?

dd2 has a clicky knee, well, it feels like it comes out and then goes back in - anyone else's lo have this. i've just noticed it this past week and because of easter 1st dr appt i can get is next wed .

Uki · 21/03/2008 05:00

Hi There

Hope we all have a lovely Easter, and enjoy stealing some eggs off out LO's.

did some one mention walking!!! i better read back and check that out. Congrat's to Callum the early walker.

Me and my Joe- welcome from me too. Most of the people I know that said they were only having one, all have no. 2 now. So who knows dh and you might change. Must say the 2nd has been easier than the first here

LL has been recovered from the flu, and then ds got it, so lots of waking up and coughing fits in the uki house.

I feel like i have a newborn again with that mind numbing tiredness, as i have been up every 2 hours lately.

Better tgo finish cleaning house scientifically for some rather germ phobic guests we have comming and as not fun

leifmum · 21/03/2008 09:15

welcome meandmyjoe! my dd matilda was born 3rd August. she's my first but think we will try for another one at some point!

hi uki! sorry to hear your los have been poorly, i hope it all clears up soon. have you got plans for easter?

james you did really well with the caravan in the end, you must be chuffed! hope it's all been quiet on the dad front. big hugs.

my2weegirls - must be a relief your dd coped at the childminders ok. going back to work is bound to be difficult but it's an evil necessity!

tasha how's ds2? hope he's getting better and you're getting enough help from dp.

not much has been happening here. think dd's got another tooth coming through. did another day at work. more stress with the house move but hoping to exchange and com[lete next friday. cynic in me thinks that won't happen!! really hoping it will snow this weekend for dd to play with! she's grizzling now having just woken up from the shortest nap ever. bless her!

GillL · 21/03/2008 09:56

Morning all. I've been at work since 8am (24x7 helpdesk). I normally get in at 9 but dh has the kids today so I could leave for work at the same time I usually leave to take them to mum's.

Dh was unbelievable last night. Dd had fallen asleep in the car so we put her to bed when I got home at about 6. She woke up at midnight and woke ds up at the same time with her coughing. Dh announced that he would go and sleep downstairs because he needed all the sleep he could get to deal with the kids today!!! You know I lost count of the number of night feeds he did so that I had enough sleep to deal with the kids the next day I was livid and told him that if ds didn't go back to sleep soon I would take him downstairs to him. He's so two faced. When he has a day off, it's his time off and he gets a lay in. When I have a day off, he needs more sleep to go to work and he gets a lay in. He didn't get away with it today.

Dd seemed to enjoy her Easter mask parade. She didn't win anything but they all got a big Easter egg. To be honest I think she was quite oblivious to the fact that there were prizes. My sister, on the other hand, spent the entire time moaning about the fact that some kids' masks were obviously done by the parents and some had no effort put into them at all. She said she wasn't upset about the fact that her dd didn't win but she was going on about it all day.

Welcome meandmyjoe. I have a dd 3yrs on Monday and ds who was born on 15th August. I've always wanted 3 or 4 children. The move to 2 children hasn't been as bad as people warned. In fact it's been quite easy. Ds has been a much easier baby than dd.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 21/03/2008 10:23

Morning folks, hope all is well and all the poorly babies/folks are feeling better.

Completed the transaction for the caravan last night, it was a complete shambles. Older couple turned up at 7pm, there was no light on the drive, no torches, and of course they needed to see the condition and everything. Tried connecting the battery to the lights, battery was dead. Got another battery, that was dead too- it's pissing down with rain, the woman is stood there with a right cat's arse mouth on making nasty comments, not seeing the funny side of it at all, even though her hubby did.

Was stressed after they left as the woman was so bitchy but the nice wodge of cash made up for it, so went straight to tesco and bought a biiiig bottle of wine, to de-stress!

Off to the outlaws today, only staying one night as we have my family coming down sunday afternoon. Bet lo will get about 15 eggs, I don't mind him having chocolate buttons but he's not allowed anything else like sweets, so I see it as my duty to eat anything that isn't buttons... I have a chocolate brownie easter egg, it looks yummy!

Hope everyone has a great easter and all the babies enjoy it! xxx

Sorry, didn't see your post there gill. at your dh, again! They're so sly aren't they!

I was woken just before 7am by dp doing an enormous fart (lovely) which woke James up so got up and changed his nappy (James, not dp's!) did his bottle, and was just about to give it to him when I remembered the bottle of wine I'd drunk last night and really needed the loo. Asked dp to take over as J had spotted the bottle and would go bananas if I left the room. He moaned and said he needed the loo too, so I rushed off, and rushed back, took the bottle off him and started feeding James so he could go. Dp then rolls over, snuggles back down and falls asleep for two hours. Wouldn't hurt just now and then for him to do a feed!

I begged for a lie in yesterday when dp was getting up, but even though he took James downstairs I just don't get one now as J loves to screech and bash his toys in the room right underneath my bed. Need earplugs!

I was supposed to be going to my friends birthday party yesterday evening but I had a really bad headache so dh and I stayed in with a chinese while the dcs stayed at pil's. It was so wierd not having my baby in the cot in our room and I'm really missing him. I stayed to put him to bed last night and it took ages. I can only assume it was due to different surroundings. I slept really well though. I went to sleep at about 11pm and woke naturally at 6:45.

I'm off for my pampering today. I'm having an Indian head massage and a facial and then my sister is treating me to lunch. I can't wait Then I'll be off to pick up the dcs. Mum is doing a birthday dinner for dd.

leifmum · 22/03/2008 13:52

glad you had good night's sleep Gill. at your pampering day, hope it's been lovely!

totally mistimed our walk to the shop earlier. it was dry when i left, checked the sky, looked clear but started snowing about 3 minutes later! totally drenched by the time i got to the shop but at least it meant dd went to sleep in the pushchair. she's ben in the wars a bit. last night she was pulling herself up to standing using the arm of the sofa. lost her balance and fell backwards hitting her head on the radiator ipes! she dented them but after a few tears she was ok! i was more upset than she was! then this morning dh got her up because he was working late. heard screams from her room. he brought her into me and she'd given herself a nosebleed from headbutting his collar bone!! touch wood she hasn't done anything since!

keep hoping that this time next week we'll be moving. my mum and dad were going to take dd for a couple of days while we move but typically they can't do next weekend hopefully my sister can have her for a few hours one day and i'll inflict her on various other people the next day. was hoping she could stay somewhere overnight though just so we could get bedrooms sorted! never mind, as long as we move, that's the main thing!

hope everyone's having nice weekend. just started hailing here again and gone very dark! want to snuggle up under my duvet!!!

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 22/03/2008 23:55

Hi folks, just got back from the outlaws. Generally a good couple of days, although one of my sil's is still being rather nasty- she's one who likes to play games and do things to spite you. So at 6.30pm while James was still up and playing, she put a horror film on, Resident Evil 2, a film she said she had seen before, so why she felt the need to watch it again with a baby(who LOVES the tv) in the room I don't know, dp and I couldn't believe what a selfish bitch she was being. There were huge snarling dogs with no skin trying to tear people to bits etc ffs.

I had to try and get him ready for bed and settle him down in the same room as the sound of people screaming. I was so pissed off, and she knew it, it was obviously done as a challenge "just you dare to tell me what I can and can't watch in my own livingroom" I ended up saying "if you've seen this before can you make sure my baby doesn't see any of the gruesome bits please?" and she said "uh, oh, yeah ok" so I spoiled her fun. Plus James spent the whole time screaming jovially and I didn't once try to quieten him down, so she just looked irritated and fed up for two hours! lol

at your pampering day, Gill! Hope you had a lovely time.
