She is a a very odd child! I don't think you were here for "hair clip gate" when she swallowed a hair clip and everyone was waiting for it to be passed! Anyone would think I was starving her!

Watch GMTV everyone, apparently the "extreme" breastfeeding article is on this morning! I can feel myself getting angry already and it's not even on yet!

milkyJammy · 06/02/2008 08:37

Eating Vicks - eeewwww!!!

Have just switched over to catch the extreme BF bit - better be good, I HATE GMTV!

Feels odd to be at home now after 2 days at work. But glad to have time with C And I bet my office-mate will be glad not to have to listen to me wheezing, sneezing, blowing and coughing all day!

milkyJammy · 06/02/2008 08:38

Oh and HV is coming to do the "8 month" check on C tomorrow.

BumperliciousIsOneHotMother · 06/02/2008 09:13

Hi all

Holly, sorry to hear you flounced! I thought you were just having a RL! It's good to have a break every now and again (even if it's just to prove you can).

Norty, I didn't realise you had been unwell (been mostly skimming for the past week) I hope you feel better now

Well, my sister went home early yesterday as she wasn't feeling well, so I feel a bit bad for slating her (I don't suppose it made much difference though!)

Oh, holly, it's interesting to hear you are doing peer supporter training. I start mine today. I then have to volunteer as the bfing group, which I go to every week anyway. I let you know how it goes.

I am feeling pleased with myself as for the first time in a year the scales went a teeny tiny smidge under the 10st mark - yay! The secret to my success is - knitting! I have just been taught to knit and am now a bit obsessed with it (also a good way to stay off mn for a bit - if you want to that it!). I am going to make trillions of scarves to give as presents next Christmas. It's very satisfying.

Anyway, hope you all have a good day. Jammy, hope you feel better. JBM well done on the buggyfit. I was going to go, but it's £6 a pop and I am not good at going to things when you have to be on time (too much stress over feeding baby and getting out of the house). Andie you must be superfit now with all you buggyfitting!

BumperliciousIsOneHotMother · 06/02/2008 09:30

Jammy I missed that GMTV, it was supposed to be on last week. This was posted by Dr Hillary on the GMTV website:

Dr Hilary Jones believes that breastfeeding should not be extended. He said: "After the age of one breast feeding is bizarre, unusual and not necessary. After a year the mother gets more out of breastfeeding than the child does. This act is more for the mother's comfort than the baby's. The bonding process is over and nutritionally the baby no longer needs the milk."

Dr Hilary added: "Women breastfeed their children for longer for a variety of reasons. It can be to avoid renewing sexual relations with their partners, it's easier for some mothers to just give in to the child while other mothers prefer to pretend their grown up child is still a baby."

CalicoHollyFlint · 06/02/2008 09:31

Hey bumper! Glad you are doing peer supporting as well! We don't have any local bfing groups here, so one of the mums at toddler group and I, along with the lovely HV, are going to start a group at the community centre once we have done our training.

Re siblings, mine are wonderful with the dcs, my brother especially, but would never even think of lifting a finger to help! My sis is 24 and my bro is 20 and neither of them would change a pooey nappy unless they were paid! Although your sister was probably really annoying, she is quite normal!!

Good job on the knitting! I'd love to be able to knit, but I don't think I'd ever get the chance. I've always got a small child or two climbing on me and snatching anything I have in my hands! I used to do cross-stitch when dd was little! I am such a old lady!

CalicoHollyFlint · 06/02/2008 09:32

I watched it bumper...Dr Hillary looked a fool! It was very funny! The bfing mother on there was fab, the look on her face when the "Dr" was spouting his load of old tosh was priceless!!

LittleMissNorty · 06/02/2008 11:01

Good to hear about the knitting Bumper. Our local radio station are doing a campaign to get people to knit for premmie babies. Have a look here. I've got patterns if anyone is interested.

annobal · 06/02/2008 13:40

Afternoon everyone!

I am a bad mother - I've just given DS2 an apple, cheese and raisins for lunch. Will have to do better for dinner (fish fingers ).

Right off to catch up...

LardyMardyDaisy · 06/02/2008 13:42

afternoon....

had a lazy day today, and have achieved not very much at all. I took DDs carseat apart to wash it all in readyness for use (found some two year old shrivelled up raisins underneath the cover (mmm..mmm) as well as some which were fluffy and mouldy (nice). anyway, I didn't pay enough atention when I took all the straps out etc and it was like the bloody Krypton factor trying to get it all together again!

good for you on the knitting bumper. I've got lots of unfinished projects on the go which I must get sround to, including a traditional east coast fishing guernsey for DH (done in the round on four pins ). I think I might try and get an easier pattern as I've been trying to knit it for four years and have done aboout two inches!

I'm galvanised into finding out about peer supporter courses around here now!

milkyJammy · 06/02/2008 13:49

Don't worry Anoobal, I think we all have odd meals like that. I think it's only a problem when they don't know what hot food is because all they get is fruit, cheese, rice cakes etc

We are less snotty here and my chest is improving after being terrible this morning, but my throat feels like sandpaper. Still, I know I'm on the mend now.

I can't knit for toffee, but talk of such things may have tempted me to get my cross stitch out again. I used to love doing it, and have a couple of half finished projects that haven't seen the light of day for a couple of years ...

LardyMardyDaisy · 06/02/2008 13:53

cross posted with you annobal.

poor DD has only had half a jar of mush today as I couldn't be arsed making anything and she seems to live on sandwiches.

she has discovered a new found love of banana though; she wouldn't entertain the idea before this week.

Right, bumper and holly; I've tried searching for local info on becoming a peer supporter but can't find anything. Where did you get your information from?

and a question regarding honey.....i know they can't have it before one year, but would it be OK if it was cooked? like in honey and mustard glaze?....Sputnik?????

LardyMardyDaisy · 06/02/2008 13:53

jammy, glad you are feeling better

CalicoHollyFlint · 06/02/2008 13:59

Afternoon!

Daisy, I saw a poster for the peer supporter course in the hospital before ds was born, but the course started the day he was born, so obv couldn't go! I had to pester various hv to find out about this year's course and finally I phoned the bf counsellor at the hospital. She called me back yesterday and we had a lovely chat! I can't wait to get started! I would give your hospital bfing counsellor and see if she knows if there are any courses. I'm sure there are.

Annobal, my ds hardly has any solids at all really just a bit of porridge or some fruit a couple of times a day! Quite often my dd will have fruit and carrot sticks or crackers and cheese for lunch. It sounds like a good lunch to me!

Glad you are feeling a bit better jammy.

annobal · 06/02/2008 14:05

My fault Daisy for not reading the convo before posting. Great to see you back - how are you?

I LOVE knitting and have been doing it for years. My latest is knitting blankets - I found this really lovely angora & cotton mix I used to knit a blanket for DS3 then backed it with a blue gingham.

My task for today is to clean the lounge room out - we have sooooo many books. BTW does anyone want 'the gentle birth method' (free)? I don't really want to give it to the local charity if someone on here can use it - might even be able to find the cds...

LardyMardyDaisy · 06/02/2008 14:05

thanks holly. I think I'll do thhe ABM course as it's distance learning. Or I might speak to my MW who runs the local baby cafe. I'll pop in there to see her tomorrow.

I'm feeling galvanised into getting out and about more...typical; just when I am thinking about working again. Don't want to, but needs must when the devil drives!

annobal · 06/02/2008 14:08

Thanks Holly - I figure he might eat a good dinner now . Well done on the bf counselling course.

DS3 definitely eating 3 big meals a day. He has also slept through from 7 til 7 for the last 3 nights .

Before I get lynched and thrown out of MN, it will NEVER happen again, I promise

LardyMardyDaisy · 06/02/2008 14:08

I'm fine annobal . thanks for your card btw....and holly and jammy and norty and foxy; you all made me cry, butu in a good way.

saying yes to your book would be admitting to wanting another baby....every time i mention it dh runs from the room, fingers in ears shouting "la..la..I'm not listening"

bugger, dd has just pooed again....the fourth time today

CalicoHollyFlint · 06/02/2008 14:09

Daisy, check this out. It might be worth a go. I have been accepted by AQA and Texperts and I start my training soon. I think if you are pretty intelligent and good with search engines you should be able to make a fair bit of extra cash.

Sputnik · 06/02/2008 14:10

Funny, I was wondering that myself about honey the other day. I would've said it's probably ok, but a quick google reveals opinions are divided.

CalicoHollyFlint · 06/02/2008 14:12

I am more of the "lala I'm not listening" variety. My dp would love another. I, however, am damaged enough and I don't think my body could cope with another baby!

My ds is getting worse at sleeping. He was awake and moaning for a good section of last night. It's beginning to get on my nerves a bit! Glad you have cracked it annobal. You must feel fab!

annobal · 06/02/2008 14:17

He's just lulling me into a false sense of security. But yes, am feeling great - it's amazing how much more patience I've had with DCs

Poor you - it's bloody exhausting!

LardyMardyDaisy · 06/02/2008 14:19

cheers saputnik

holly, i never even knew jobs like that existed...i will definately fill out an application form. sounds like the solution to my work/childcare problems !

milkyJammy · 06/02/2008 14:22

Another cooked honey wonderer here. Found a recipe for carrot and honey soup a couple of weeks back. However we've got through that glut of carrots (and without making any carrot cake ) and I've lost the recipe now anyway.

What can i but DH for his birthday???

annobal · 06/02/2008 14:25

Jammy, I have a great recipe for Carrot, lentil and chicken that I make whenever I have an overabundance of carrots. I'll post it...

Sorry, not much good on birthdays at the moment...
