Oh all the babies 😍

My little one is 1 week and 1 day old 😭 I’m in love!
I had similar to you @GWhiteley I had to have a spinal (oh how amazing did that feel) and forceps. I got to 10cm on gas and air and at the end my contractions kinda tailed off, they kept loosing his heartbeat and wasn’t in the best position so they went in with the episiotomy and forceps and it was just the one pull!

My blood loss is almost gone now. I had a catheter for about 24 hours. I’m doing pelvic floors as much as I remember!

When did your babies cord stumps fall off? I can’t wait for it to drop off as the little clip is causing him some skin irritation 😞

JasVL · 03/09/2021 12:12

@GWhiteley the spinal is amazing isn't it!! Oh wow that sounds traumatic, we really do forget about it all once they're here though!

That's good you're getting help with the breastfeeding, I felt really let down in the hospital and had minimal support probably because they're so busy. Amelia also uses my nipple as a soother! I'm going to get a hand pump and see if I can get anywhere with that.

Oh no really!! I had a problem with my catheter, they couldn't get it out so ended up being in for a whole day. After it was finally out I didn't feel the urge to go!! It's only just coming back but feels a bit sore when I wee. How nice is it not to be up for a wee every hour now though!!

Amelia is up every 3 hours on the dot for a feed but it takes about an hour to feed, change and get her sleepy again ready to get back in bed so it's every 2 hours we're having to get up! How's your little one doing?

2021mumma · 03/09/2021 20:44

How are you all? Our little one is a week old now. Feeding is tough when he’s super tired he doesn’t latch very well so resorting to breast shields. He has been really clingy last few days and is so windy!

I can’t stop thinking about the birth- whilst we had csection which I’m really struggling recovering from, the cord was found to have a huge knot in it. The midwife was shocked and said if we hadn’t had the csection when we did then the pregnancy could have ended really badly…it’s probably hormones but I keep thinking what ifs and worse case scenarios and that I’m so bloody lucky I have a healthy baby.

CherLW · 03/09/2021 22:19

@2021mumma
My little one was a week old yesterday. I’ve not tried the breast shields but I think I need too. I have one boob that he prefers and the other is slightly harder so have to massage when he’s feeding from it.

I’m in a similar position to you, I didn’t have a c section but the birth was quite traumatic and it’s on my mind a lot. I’ve found talking about it as much as I can with people is helping but there are a lot of things that play over in my mind. I keep trying to focus on the now and that’s my Jesse and he’s healthy and now safe in my arms. I hope you find it easy to talk to others about things, I think it’s important not to bottle things up. Xx

2021mumma · 04/09/2021 02:09

Thanks @CherLW you are right I need to talk about it with others. Sorry your birth was traumatic too.

I think we are due date twins 26th?

Give breast shields a go, they were a life saver last time round for me and I ended up using them for a few weeks and then he got the hang of it (precious one had tongue tie) I then breastfed till he was almost 2- hoping it works out this time but not planning on doing it so long this time! X

2021mumma · 04/09/2021 02:10

Previous one (he is precious too ha!)

Bubbles1st · 04/09/2021 18:51

Now we are finally home with our beautiful Lorenzo I am happy to post on this thread and officially join the club!!

How's everyone doing?

Especially those recovering from sections?

I had a tough first 2 days as I was so sore and trapped wind made it worse. I was also feeling some pain which wasn't directly my scar. Turns out it was from the forceps. I didn't even know using forceps in a c section was a thing until it happened to me and they didn't tell me they used them, just the midwife afterwards as he has some small marks on his head.

I think being on scbu forced my recovery to speed up and I had little choice to be active as even from my room to the ward was a small trek everytime.

The most surprising thing I suffered with was the numbest and most uncomfortable bum on the chair by his bedside 🥴

GWhiteley · 05/09/2021 01:36

Yay so pleased @Bubbles1st! This is awesome news!

Glad your recovery has gone better than expected, my stitches are sore but manageable from my assisted birth with forceps. I've also overdone it today as my stomach muscles were screaming a few times today.

I can officially confirm we've decided on the name Alyssa for our baby. Only took us 2.5days!

Tonight is feeding frenzy night!! Which is apparently a thing. Seriously she hasn't stopped feeding every 20mins or so. And since last night I only got an hours sleep I was hoping tonight might be different, but judging from the time I'd say no!

Bubbles1st · 05/09/2021 09:41

@GWhiteley what a lovely name!

Pleased you're feeling good despite the over doing, so easy to do!

So the first clothes size struggle is real 🙈

I can't believe how big first size and new born is on my little man.

Anyone with a 7lber for a good size and brand recommendation?

GWhiteley · 05/09/2021 12:23

@Bubbles1st might have spoke too soon on feeling good as had zero sleep last night!

Alyssa was 7lb 2oz & has since gone down to 6lb 8oz so with you on the clothes front! Even the newborn stuff doesn't fit!!! I've been rolling sleeves up & just going with it that you can't find her feet 😂

CherLW · 05/09/2021 20:44

@Bubbles1st my Jesse was 6lb 9oz at birth and went down to 6lb 3oz… I’m just keeping him in 0-1 and rolling up the sleeves as he’s going to grow quick!

@GWhiteley what a gorgeous name!!

JasVL · 05/09/2021 20:45

@Bubbles1st that's brilliant you're home!!

Oh wow, I had no idea they could use forceps during a c section either.

I seem to have gone backward in my recovery, think I overdid it on the first couple of days being home as I couldn't believe how well I felt.

My scar has opened slightly in the middle, had to go in for it to be looked at and they swabbed it to see if it's infected - waiting for the results but might be antibiotics for me.

The trapped wind was no joke!! I found peppermint water helped me massively.

@GWhiteley awww what a beautiful name!!

We've been having a bit of a hard time the last 2 days, Amelia seems to be hungry all the time! Literally wants a whole bottle every 2 hours! Being a ftm I have no idea if I'm allowed to feed her that much, I just keep questioning everything I'm doing!

CherLW · 05/09/2021 20:54

@2021mumma we are birth date twins!! I was due September 3rd but he could wait to arrive.

I am definitely finding talking about the birth helpful, I’m thinking about it less and less now… well the bad bits anyway. X

Squibble84 · 07/09/2021 07:50

Hey guys, I’m moving over to this thread now! Leo was born on Sunday and we were hoping to be discharged last night but I had a temp and they thought he looked a bit jaundiced so waiting on blood test results - looks like he might have to go under the light machine though so a bit longer in hospital for us! 😫

It’s so hard because I miss my almost 2 year old at home so much, I’ve never been away from her for this long before but I want to be by Leo’s side as well!

Also it’s 27 degrees here today and I am sweating buckets already!

Hope you’re all doing ok! @JasVL my scar did that last time as I started to overdo it, definitely take it easy now your body’s been through a lot!

crobo87 · 08/09/2021 03:11

We are on day 5 of still being in hospital,
Oscar is fine and ready for discharge but I'm not, my Bp is still being a nightmare. I've been a bit emotional today, just wanting to go home.

Congrats to everyone who's had their babies xx

Scotti84 · 08/09/2021 09:22

@JasVL it is hard to know what to do isn't it, ive never googled so much! Theres so much conflicting info its not easy, one nurse told me to feed baby every 4 hrs, the other shouted at me because she should be feeding every 2 hrs in the first 6 weeks... now we're home n i feed her when she wants it. I keep a track of how much she has and can usually tell if shes full or not. She was wanting the breast just for comfort, but we give her a dummy when she goes down on a night n she drops off great until time for next feed. I was worried about that but i had a long chat with my dad who reminded me its not a bad thing to make choices that give us some time to sleep. Its not possible to be awake 24/7 for her so doing things like that that help her drop off but give us that hour or two more sleep is perfectly fine.

Hope everyone is doing okay, its an emotional time isnt it. Ive never cried so much for so many reasons all at once 😅

Squibble84 · 08/09/2021 11:12

@Scotti84 the one thing I learnt from having my last baby is that no midwife/health visitor can ever seem to agree on feeding - it always just seems to be their personal opinion! 🤷‍♀️ Sounds like you’re doing a great job though and responding to your baby’s cues. I’ve been feeding Leo on demand whenever he’s been showing me he’s hungry as I figure he’s going to know better than anyone else, it’s his belly rumbling! Also dummies can be invaluable, if it helps use it! It’s so hard parenting a baby on no sleep, you have to look after yourself as well!!

@crobo87 sorry to hear you’re still in hospital, we’re still here too unfortunately - day 4 now. Leo has jaundice which seems to have cleared up but they’ve been treating it in one of those light machines. I’m so ready to go home, see my two year old and settle into family life. I’m feeling super emotional today and I’ve been harassing them to com up with a new plan for me as I want to transfer his care to our local hospital which is ten minutes away. As it was full when I went into labour, I’m an hours drive away. I hope you get to go home soon Crobo, day 5 is also the hormone crash day so you’ll be feeling extra emotional as well!

JasVL · 08/09/2021 12:51

@Squibble84 @crobo87 it's awful having such a long time in hospital, I completely feel for you! We were in for 4 days after she was born but 3 days before that waiting to be induced! I hope you're both ready to go home soon!

@Scotti84 hahaha I google literally everything now! We also have no idea how often we're supposed to be feeding her, aiming for every 4 hours but sometimes it's every 2!! We've given in with the dummy as well for the first time last night! What an absolute god send, she went down at 12 and didn't wake up till 4 for a feed. I felt really guilty about it all but like you say we can't be awake 24/7 and need sleep ourselves!

An emotional roller coaster isn't it!

crobo87 · 08/09/2021 18:07

I was all packed and ready to go home this morning after seeing the doctor who said I could go.
Only to get ready and then redo my Bp which was sky high and then tell me I'll be here at least another 24hrs.
I had a bit of a wobble, well probably a big wobble and sobbed. I feel fine and Oscar is doing amazing (he's put on 7oz since he was born) so very frustrated about being stuck here. Partner was frustrated as well as he feels like he can't do anything to help other than visit for the 5hrs we are allowed.
Hoping for tomorrow x

Squibble84 · 09/09/2021 04:21

@crobo87 I’m so sorry to hear that! It’s so hard isn’t it when you’re gearing up to go home and then told you have to stay longer, I swear a day on a post-natal ward is equivalent to a month in the outside world!

Have you had any monitoring since? Surely you’re bp will be more likely to go down at hone where you can feel relaxed and calm with your family?!

crobo87 · 09/09/2021 06:44

@Squibble84 Only having monitoring in hospital. I've asked about home monitoring but they want me here. I had mainly good readings yesterday but then had a high one overnight so I'm not hopeful for today either 😢

Squibble84 · 09/09/2021 06:51

Ugh that must be so frustrating! I feel your pain - Leo keeps getting good readings after coming off the light machine for his jaundice, then they go back up again and he has to go back on. Every time he’s off, they have to wait 12 hours to test so it’s such a long process! 😫 soo ready to go home and see my daughter again and be together as a family. I hope you’re released soon! 🤞🤞🤞

crobo87 · 09/09/2021 09:53

Hope you get some good readings soon @Squibble84 and get to go home xx

Kirky658 · 09/09/2021 10:12

@crobo87 exactly the same thing happened to me with my BP. I found that they got more reliable readings using a manual blood pressure monitor rather than the machines so might be worth a try!!! ❤️

@lexber congrats!!!

Sorry haven't been keeping up girls I've been a bit of a mess. OK a lot of a mess. Got my first postnatal counselling session tomorrow so I'm hoping that helps to fine tune things a bit. I go through days where I think I'm OK, then something stupid like the smell of my shower gel (same one as I used in the hospital) takes me straight back to everything and I just break down. DH is back at work on Monday and I'm terrified about being home alone with Alice. I keep feeling guilty as I'm expressing rather than breast feeding and feel like I am constantly letting Alice down. Add to that I'm normally such a neat freak, house is always clean and tidy, and now it's a mess which stresses me out even more.

I hope everyone is adjusting to mummy life ❤️ I've forgotten the difference between night and day...

AdventuresAwait · 09/09/2021 10:34

Hi everyone. I had forgotten about this thread so am excited to join!

Had our baby girl on the 2nd via an elective c-section and have been home since the 4th. So happy and glad to be home.

Sorry for the late reply @Bubbles1st but Hettie was 7lb 5oz, now 6lb 13oz and lots of her clothes are too big! The best fit we have that are just right for her are the newborn clothes from Matalan.
Also, I think I read that you had forceps? I did too and was surprised. I also didn't know they used them in sections or that they were using them at the time (a midwife mentioned it afterwards) but the other Mum we were in a bay with also had a section and forceps too.

Someone asked about the cord stump. Our daughter's came off yesterday which was day 6.

I'm hoping my wound is healing OK. It's a bit red so they took a swab and should get the results today. It's nice to be able to walk more and get about more easily.

How's everyone doing? Xx
