Thanks everyone for the sleep advice, I am going to keep more of an eye on it & while I don't want a strict routine I probably just need to make sure he is getting enough sleep.

crobo87 · 31/01/2022 21:37

Oscar is 5 months this week and sleeps around 15 hours in total.
He generally sleeps 11hrs overnight (we are just coming out the other side of the 4 month sleep regression) & then has 4 naps in the day as he's an early riser, usually 5:30/6am
They are normally only around 30mins long, rarely any longer.

@Sillysocks998 I'm not due back till June but also looking at options. I'm hoping to hear back from work this week about my request for flexible working before I make a decision on what will be best but have visited some childminders x

Sillysocks998 · 31/01/2022 21:46

Thank you @AdventuresAwait @crobo87 I'll ask all these questions. I'm due back end of April and looking for childcare 3 days. It's expensive. Around £52 to £59 per day. Up to 52 weeks of the year. 😬

Sillysocks998 · 31/01/2022 21:58

What's everyone trying first for weaning? I think we're going for tender stem broccoli steamed. I don't think lo will do much with it. So exciting ❤️

AdventuresAwait · 31/01/2022 22:14

Yes thinking of broccoli here too @Sillysocks998. Then maybe some parsnip. I'm looking forward to it but also a bit nervous! Well you be giving it as finger food for your little one to self-feed? When are you starting? Xx

Sillysocks998 · 01/02/2022 06:00

Hi @AdventuresAwait yes I've ordered BLW books and the Hauck High chair which is arriving Thursday this week. Lo is 6 months on feb 11th in terms on months or this Wednesday in terms of 26 weeks, or March 23rd in terms of corrected age 🤪 so I'll be asking the HV today which date I should go by. But will do it when he's had some sitting practice in the hauck and has watched us eat. I'll buy the best broccoli I can, steam a couple of stems and I think just place them in front of him. I haven't read any books yet as they'll be here today. So I'd read them first. I'm thinking broccoli, parsnip, green bean, carrot Bartons in that order, I think you have to try them a few times before they like them. What about you? X

AdventuresAwait · 01/02/2022 06:36

Hi @Sillysocks998, my daughter is 6 months at the beginning of March so another month to wait! She actuality needs that time to develop her sitting before she can use the high chair so we are working on head control when sitting!
Yes I'm planning on BLW. I read a book about it and it made complete sense. Until yesterday, I'd planned to use purees as well but then, chatting to my sister, have decided I probably won't. She explained that baby will get spoon practise and other textures (which is why i was considering it) as she has foods like porridge and soup etc. So I'll see how she goes with BLW before I decide.
So glad I read the book I was recommended. It was excellent and also have two coming to the library to read too. Just waiting for them to arrive!
I remember my neice having brocoli placed on the tray that she just picked up and put to her mouth. I'm sure she had things a few times as well before trying something new. I like the sound of the order you have. I'll probably make a plan after reading the other books xx

Sillysocks998 · 01/02/2022 07:11

Hi @AdventuresAwait I too was wondering how porridge would work. I have been giving lo a nuk spoon to hold during playtime for a week now. I thought maybe he will use it for porridge. Altho I know it'll be so messy. Haha. Maybe he can use his hands to eat porridge? Or is that a bit too crazy? I think see how our Los develop and what they like. But it would be nice to see them eat themselves over time. Meaning one of don't have to have cold food! I also saw omami a company online that does fresh baby food as opposed to ellas kitchen. Have a look on Instagram. I also follow natalieandbruna on Instagram. Her lo eats so well. That would be the dream. Books wise I'm getting blw, what mummy makes and a 3rd bw book. I think for now I'll ty get lo as much exposure to seeing us eat, high chair practice and putting a food plan in place that my husband can follow! The omami was an option because life will happen and I won't always be able to prepare food for him. But looks like we need to feed with spoon but hopefully baby can just eat it himself lol. Maybe my expectations are too high🤔😬😂

AdventuresAwait · 01/02/2022 09:39

@Sillysocks998, is one of the books you're getting by Rapley and Murkett? If so (I love it!) , they talk about runny food. They say to make it thick and babies can use their hands at first but that many learn to use a spoon (or something like a breadstick to scoop) quite quickly. They will copy us as we eat too. I've bought her spoons that are supposed to pick up food just by dipping (rather than having to scoop) for the very beginning as well as other baby spoons. We can then help/show her but then let her take the lead as they say with BLW.
I think we can definitely expect mess!

I will look up that insta account, thanks!

That's our plan too - have her at meal times with us and get her used to her high chair. Exciting! Xx

Sillysocks998 · 01/02/2022 11:45

@AdventuresAwait well the hauck chair is here already and are the books. So I can prepare now. We sound like we're taking the same approach. You will have to let me know how you get on. Our HV hasn't turned up. Or text to say if she's late or can't come now🙄. Not the first time.

AdventuresAwait · 01/02/2022 12:40

@Sillysocks998, yes let's keep in touch about how it goes! Sorry your HV hasn't turned up.

Sillysocks998 · 02/02/2022 14:27

Hi @AdventuresAwait the HV didn't turn up and no text or communication! Yes let's. I think I'm going to have to wait until corrected age as developmentally that is when he is 6 months. So that will be towards the end of March. I have books by annabell karmel, Rebecca wilson(what mummy makes) and simple and safe blw by Malkani. I think we are going to be going food shopping quite a lot! But it's a great time for seasonal fruit and veg soon.

Scotti84 · 05/02/2022 12:26

Hi all, hope everyone's OK.

How's people's sleeping situations atm? Woke up to Lilly crying last night because she had managed to turn herself sideways and get wedged in. I think its time for her cot. My little girl is growing so fast!

Bubbles1st · 05/02/2022 16:08

I think we will need to move into the cot soon however we just seem to becoming out of sleep regression after a difficult 2 weeks. So hoping if it continues and good nights continue then will look to increase day time naps in the cot rather than contact naps and then once they are established as his sleep space go for it at night.

I will definitely miss him though 🥺

Suma2021 · 08/02/2022 12:53

@Newmum110 My boy is 4 months. At night he sleeps well, sleeping through or waking up once, getting about 11 hours. But the daytime is another matter entirely! It's a real challenge to get him to nap and if he does, it's only for 30 minutes. He probably only gets a couple of hours sleep (max) during the day. So 13 hours in totality but no more. When he has a really bad day, getting less than 13 hours, then he gets mega cranky. Approaching the 4 months sleep regression so expecting it to get worse 😛

@Scotti84 Still using moses basket but he is literally head to toe so we're about to the put the cot together and "attempt" to get him used to it by napping before transitioning properly but...as mentioned above, think it will be hard work!! 🤣

Scotti84 · 08/02/2022 23:46

@Suma2021 @Bubbles1st we're on day 3 of cot sleeping... First night took her a bit to settle but then slept through, last night she went down ok but woke at 2 and 6 and tonight, well I've tried 3 times to get her to sleep but the second I put her down she's awake and crying so we are in the living room watching Keanu Reeves movies and I'm breaking my coffee limit. Bloody knackered. Also about to shave OHS head as he sleeps, as soon as she started to cry at about 10pm he comes out with right I'm going to try and get to sleep! Ugh!!! I know he's at work and I'm not but it's not like I've got nothing to do all day. Lilly is in leap 5 atm and I think this is the start of separation anxiety too. She bawls her eyes out if I leave the room, it's awful!

GWhiteley · 12/02/2022 01:09

Oh holy hell am I tired! Alyssa seems to be getting worse during the night, waking every 2 hrs. She's been like this for a few weeks now, it's like she's snacking again. No clue what to do! Plus we too need to get her in the cot as she is nearly too big for it....better buy a mattress. Can anyone recommend a good brand?

Hope everyone else is ok

Newmum110 · 14/02/2022 07:01

So I've finally manage to tackle the sleeping now and am happy with our routine however I have stumbled across another problem!!!! Baby sleeps for 10 hours but has 2 feeds during that time, feeds very fast and straight back to sleep. The problem is he is now waking up soaked ever morning so everything has to be washed daily. I have put 2 nappies on him. Bottom one is always full, top one never wet at all. It seems the pee is soaking up his back. I know if I change him during the night he will wake and take ages to sleep but I'm getting fed up with the constant washing.

Newmum110 · 14/02/2022 07:02

Forgot to say, if anyone has any advice I would really appreciate it.

Bubbles1st · 14/02/2022 09:17

@Newmum110 is it as simple as needing to size up?

We use reusables or Aldi nappies in the day and need pampers at night to contain him as he is such a heavy wetter.

Newmum110 · 14/02/2022 09:32

@Bubbles1st I didn't really think of that tbh I kind of thought a proper fitting nappy would be best but definitely going to try sizing up tonight

Bubbles1st · 14/02/2022 15:23

@Newmum110 the bigger nappies have a bigger capacity not just bigger in size, we still make sure it's for his weight but there is quite a lot of cross over from 2/3 for example

Scotti84 · 14/02/2022 15:34

@Newmum110 we use a size up on a night too. They're as heavy as a cannonball in the morning but no leaks so far.

Newmum110 · 14/02/2022 15:57

Thanks everyone, will be sizing up tonight and will let ye know how I go.

Scotti84 · 15/02/2022 10:47

What are peoples feeding routines atm? Are they getting more spaced out yet?
