Lillys also like that, sometimes she will wolf it down in about 15 mins, then sometimes she'll happily feed for over an hour. I just find something to watch on Netflix and let her do her thing. I do worry how much she is getting but my midwife told me to let her feed when she wants atm and if she is hungry she will let me know. Do you think how full the breast is makes a difference? When I'm really full and they're quite hard she sometimes spits milk back up, is it because the milk comes more easily when they are full that she ends up getting too much or drinking too fast? Or am i just making things up? Also i never seem to manage to empty a boob in a feed, that I know of. Should i pump the rest out if that's the case?

On another note I've changed my midwife. The old hippy one who told me me shouldn't express for DH to do some night feeds has gone and i have a lovely new relaxed one who's much more relaxed and on my wavelength. She's given me so much more info in one visit than the other did in 6 months! Very happy about that!

MrsMcNtobe · 17/09/2021 21:43

Hope everyone is doing well, hard to keep up here feel like time just flies by!
For anyone formula feeding, how often does your little one feed and roughly how many oz? Niamh is around 2.5-3oz every 3-4 hours, she’s a lazy wee soul though so most feeds after an oz or 2 we’re having to rouse her or unbutton her sleepsuit to try and wake her up to finish feeding 🙈

Noodles4Me · 17/09/2021 23:02

@MrsMcNtobe my boy does 4oz every 3-4 hours. Although the other night he slept 5 hours before needing a feed. He's pretty regular though and always finishes his bottle!

Here is some real talk: anyone else finding the newborn phase quite dull? Confused

Mamabearwhere · 18/09/2021 03:45

Hi mamas. Any of you combo feeding and if so how are you doing it? I exclusively bf my other two so I’m clueless on how to incorporate formula. If I introduced a bedtime bottle would that mess up my supply or baby’s routine? My milk came in today but it doesn’t seem enough and he’s really upset and agitated at the breast and doesn’t really sleep keeps waking for more milk but isn’t getting any out of my breasts

MrsMcNtobe · 18/09/2021 08:33

@Noodles4Me I agree it is a bit dull! It’s also a little lonely at times

crobo87 · 18/09/2021 12:22

@MrsMcNtobe Oscar has 3ozs every 4 hours. He's 2 weeks old now.

Noodles4Me · 18/09/2021 12:53

@MrsMcNtobe it can be lonely. Do you have good support? My mum is having the boy for next 4-5 hours whilst me and hubby go out for afternoon. Our first outing alone together without kid!

MrsMcNtobe · 18/09/2021 14:48

@crobo87 same as Niamh then, I have all those ftm worries!

@Noodles4Me yeah my support is great, not driving after my section is killing me tho! My OH is back working but he does the 8am feeds then takes over when he gets home, I just need to learn to head to bed a bit earlier to rest before night feeds. I hope you both enjoy your day!

AdventuresAwait · 18/09/2021 15:27

@Scotti84 my midwife said the same.. feed whenever she wants milk. She said you can't over feed when breast feeding.
Yes I think it makes a difference when your breasts are full as the milk comes quickly for them. My little girl also brings some up and also can find it harder to latch when they're really full. Mine don't always feel empty but they told me to always offer both and to start on the one you ended with when you next feed and then they get the rest anyway. So I don't express at the moment.

Kirky658 · 19/09/2021 07:33

@Noodles4Me yep, it is boring, the days roll into one

I am expressing and feeding 6 times a day now (4 hourly) and feeding about 100ml (3oz) a feed.

Scotti84 · 19/09/2021 10:08

Ladies, I just have to share this.. Lilly is still asleep! Four hours now! Ill wake her soon to feed but normally on a morning I feed her at about 6 then she's up at 9 for the next, its 11am here now, she last fed at 7, but had loads so I'm letting DH sleep and taking advantage of a Sunday lie in! Chance to recoup a bit of lost sleep! Don't think it'll be a regular thing and she probably won't sleep tonight now but the extra time in bed was so needed! Feel like a new woman!

bewitchingnight · 19/09/2021 20:35

Hi everyone, nice to be posting on this thread at last! Clementine is 10 days old today and I can't believe what a whirlwind it's been, and how completely different the birth and first few days have been compared to what I was expecting - it's so hard!

I've been finding breastfeeding really tricky so far, had an appointment today to help with my latch so feeling a bit more positive.

Hope you're all doing well xx

crobo87 · 19/09/2021 22:43

Anyone who's had a section this time or previously....I'm 2 weeks post partum and scar is healing nicely. However, ive noticed on the right side at the end of the scar I have a hard, egg sized lump. It doesn't hurt or cause any issues. Has anyone else had this?
I'll book a Gp appointment this week but just wondered if anyone else knew what it might be.

Bubbles1st · 19/09/2021 23:03

@crobo87 yes I've had some hard lumps, midwife told me it's normal and is fluid build up, it will go. Some if mine have already.

AdventuresAwait · 20/09/2021 04:41

@crobo87, I'm 2 weeks 4 days post cesarean and I've got two egg shaped, hard lumps, under the skin just above my scar. My Midwife wasn't concerned and said they may go.

Kirky658 · 20/09/2021 06:14

@crobo87 small lumps under scar here too. Scar us also still very tender x

CherLW · 20/09/2021 20:30

Hey ladies, hope you and your babies are doing well 😍

Is anyone’s babies struggling with trapped wind? Jesse looks like he’s in so much pain with it and it’s been about 10 days now! I’ve been recommended optibac which is a probiotic and I’ve just made a late night dash to tesco for Infacol as I’ve been so bad today!
I hate seeing him in pain when I can’t do anything… anyone else?

I’m also doing tummy massage and also the bicycle leg thing.

Noodles4Me · 20/09/2021 22:18

@CherLW yes, mine! He gets so angry and tense. I've been using infacol and now he's over 4 weeks he gets gripe water too. It helps a bit but it's not 100%. It's so stressful to watch him...Sad

bewitchingnight · 20/09/2021 22:32

@CherLW @Noodles4Me yes! It's so upsetting to see them uncomfortable. We've tried massage and the leg cycling too and trying to make an effort to keep her upright after feeds but I don't know if any of it is helping really! She won't sleep put down anywhere and hates the car seat, which I wonder if they are connected to being uncomfortable?

CherLW · 21/09/2021 09:58

@Noodles4Me @bewitchingnight sorry to hear your smalls are going through the same thing. It’s heartbreaking to see him struggling.

Someone suggested I booked up see a cranial osteopath as they took their son to one with reflux and it helped. Just not sure! Although I would do anything if I knew it would help him. Have either of you heard of them?

KHR1 · 21/09/2021 15:24

@CherLW we think Zach has colic or bad trapped wind as he spends most of the night straining and pushing. We started infancol yesterday and he seemed a lot more comfortable

Scotti84 · 21/09/2021 15:54

Lilly is the same, it's awful to see her struggle with it, only good thing is im used to the face she pulls with it so I know what it is. We've got some massage oil for her stomach and Dad's warm hands seem to help soothe her a bit, hoping it doesn't go on too long.

MrsTD88 · 21/09/2021 16:04

Our little girl Orlaith arrived yesterday weighing 6lb 15oz. She is so much smaller than predicted and all my growth scans have been way off!

I had a few complications during the c-section but home now and well equipped with pain relief. Do any of you ladies have a pico dressing? I didn't have one last time but do this time because of the prolonged surgery.

Scotti84 · 21/09/2021 17:05

Congrats @MrsTD88! Lovely name!

What are peoples opinions on family visiting etc? DHs sister has two kids, 3 and 8, and they obviously want to see Lilly and hold her etc, they also spend a lot of time with his Mum, my midwife has advised against having them over because of the risk they pick up something in school and pass it on, but for how long? I cant keep them away forever but am unsure how long it takes for her to build up an immune system. I cant invite the parents or my in laws without the kids as my MIL lets the little ones do whatever they want and I don't want to get into an argument about wanting to protect my baby. I know she will say im being over protective, but I'd rather err on the side of caution

CherLW · 21/09/2021 17:23

@KHR1 I’m hoping it’s not colic but I wouldn’t know, he cries but not to the level they say is expected from colic.
I started Infacol yesterday too and it does seem to be helping slight, he seems a little more comfortable and let out a few good trumps this morning too 💪🏼
