My2Weegirls · 22/11/2007 11:08

thanks shrinking - like the name!

DD1 was better behaved yesterday - only one incident - she got her Dora doll (who was keeping the towels company) back for being a good girl.

DD2 is being a bit of a limpet today - though her nose is still streaming poor thing

off to get a coffee and do a tesco order while i get the chance.

hope you are all well???

conkertree · 22/11/2007 13:52

ha ha - like the title. off this afternoon to get ds's second lot of jabs - hope ds has the same reaction as last time as he wasnt really affected.

he's been pretty grumpy the last couple of days though. hope its just a phase.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 22/11/2007 15:07

Yay!! New thread! about bloody time too.

It's coldddddddd at chez banana today, I feel quite miserable with it, but guilty about putting the heating on so early. Time to break out the warm cardis again! Brrrr

My2Weegirls · 22/11/2007 16:17

i've got the heating on - DP complains i've turned him into a wimp (he lived in a flat with no heating)

shrinkingsagpuss · 22/11/2007 16:32

of course in honour of BLW it should have said "milk, mash, puree or chunks".. i know its a bit early but by the time we fill the thread it'll be about right!!

We've got a coal fired rayburn... lovely and warm here...

tasha21 · 22/11/2007 20:54

well we had to get more oil today cause we already have it all used
love the name.
had to ask a friend today if i could borrow her mosses basket stand because ds1+2 broke it and her baby is 6 days younger than lo, lol
hows everyone today, dp was off today so had a kinda relaxing day, visited mum and had coffee with her which was nice

GillL · 22/11/2007 21:33

Bout time we had a new thread. Can't believe it's taken us so long to fill it.

Dd was quite good going to pre-school. I think the only reason she didn't cry though was because she wanted her present. I think mum's going to have trouble with her next week but I've told her to be strong.

Ds had his jabs too. He's been a bit fractious (which isn't like him at all) so he's had a couple of doses of calpol. Hopefully he'll have a good night.

I'm having a new haircut tomorrow. Going for a fringe which I haven't had for about 15 years so I'm a bit nervous. I'm not sure what style to go for so I'll have to get some advice from the hairdressers. I'm also going to try to get the remaining xmas presents so I don't have to do any xmas shopping at weekends.

pinkrangernowwobbles · 23/11/2007 09:43

Loving the new thread, as GillL said, cant believe it has taken us 3 months to fill up the last one!!

GillL - Glad that DD went into school easier, my DS1 hated going pre-school for about 6 weeks and would cry and sit in the cloak room area for about an hour but then loved it, the teachers said when he left last year ( 2 years on ) that when he had been "told off' or upset, had the hump he would go back and sit in there....Funny how they get these weird little habits, she will settle down soon

DS2 is alot better and going through again, went from 10.30 until 5.20 last night, not even waking up for a dummy which is fab ( have been popping the dummy in so he knows no milk, looks like it MIGHT be paying off)
I am feeling better, have finally started taking my AD, didnt really want to but last week soo sooo bad, got tearful alto and everything seem just such hard work, so i have bitten the bullet and want to get back to the me that i know and love, have also joined slimming world as im struggling to get this weight off (grrr) so that will be good for me as well!

God ive rambled loads.............
Im going to ask the dreaded questions............. hows the Christmas shopping coming along........... >>>>

mamamila · 23/11/2007 12:11

hi everyone!

have you all started weaning the bairns already? i thought that wouldn't start till next year? has anyone got the annabel karmel books? i was thinking of ordering online but like to know if they're worth it

we're all fine here, mila's a really smiley baby and a lot calmer and more perdictable these days. she started really laughing a couple of days ago when tickled and raspberried!

what else is new?

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 23/11/2007 12:51

Ooh pink, you're brave starting Slimming world before christmas! I need to start going again but I'm not motivated so there's no point yet. Need to go when I'm thoroughly fed up! Glad you're feeling better after starting on the AD's, I've taken them a couple of times in the past, it's surprising how fast they do work. Plus the extra sleep will help too, you'll be back on track in no time. Is your other half more help now?

mamamila, nice to hear from you! Lovely to hear Mila's doing well, James has just started bellylaughing too, it's gorgeous isn't it? No we aren't all weaning yet, I think for now it's just conkertree and sagpuss whose lo's had hollow legs. It's amazing how much some babies do eat actually, I read a thread the other day about an 8 week old baby who was still hungry after having 6oz hungry baby milk 7 or 8 times a day...that's more than James has at 15 weeks!

I'm being crap and dreading christmas. I just can't be bothered with it! We are changing our car this month but haven't sold our old car yet so having to find a few hundred for that (luckily it coincides with dp getting a raise) it's a smaller car which will be cheaper to run, insure, tax etc than our big fat petrol guzzling 2litre car at the moment. So money will yet again be tight over christmas, and I can't help but see it all as rather superfluous and unimportant. Miserable sod, aren't I?

tasha21 · 23/11/2007 15:03

sorry gonna have to catch up later just wanted to say lo is 7lb14oz!!!

GillL · 23/11/2007 17:11

Got paid today - woo hoo. With my 'return to work' incentive payment I actually got paid more than dh and his salary is a lot more than mine. We're being sensible though and saving the extra that I'm getting. If I leave before I've been back to work for 18 months then I have to pay some of it back.

Thanks pink - she'll be fine as soon as she gets to know everyone.

I've got 1 present left to buy for xmas. I got the last few today as it's my last weekday day off before xmas. I hate xmas shopping in December especially at the weekend so I like to get it over and done with early.

Hi mama. Ds isn't really laughing yet. I've only heard him do this a couple of times. No weaning for us yet either. Ds is still only on 7oz first stage milk so I'll wait til he's 6 months.

Hi tasha. Glad you're lo is putting on weight.

ElenorRigby · 23/11/2007 19:43

Oh a new thread

Baby Amy's still being a good girl and is still sleeping all night (drops of to sleep at 6-7pm, we wake her at 11pm-12am for a feed and nappy change and then she sleeps typically until 6.30am-7am) in her cot in her own room.

Shes still on 7oz of formula around 6 times a day and still seems happy with that. She doesnt have any inclination to grab at solids atm and is happy with the milk so will leave her on that. I did read that thread on the weaning forum though- good lord some people are almost evangelical in their childcare beliefs rollseyes

Since Amy-Anns been sleeping through shes been so much happier too.

Anyway heres a couple of pics of lil Amy-Ann

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 23/11/2007 21:07

Aaw she's so cute.

Hey tasha, glad to hear your lo is getting bigger and stronger now, my little fatty is nearly 16lb and my back is complaining when I have to pick him up out of the cot/pushchair!

Tonight we put him in a traditional baby bath instead of his tummy tub, to see if he'd like it. He kicked around like a mentalist because he was excited, and we now have an absolutely soaked carpet!

I think he's definitely teething- he was really screaming earlier and he'd had a bottle, nappy change, nap etc. His cheeks wee red and he was drooling. I put some dentinox on his gums and he just went hysterical, so ended up giving him some calpol. He did calm down after the calpol, but what if he's like this every night? Surely we aren't supposed to give them painkillers every day?

lizziemun · 23/11/2007 21:44

I would like to ask a question but don't to put in the breast/bottle feeding section.

Is anyone else having difficultly with bottle feeding.

DD2 was 9lb 2oz at birth at 10weeks was 13lb. She is still only taking between 4 and 5oz's the max 6oz's every 4 hours.

I don't know if am imaging problems or there is one . She seem is more settled then the first 5 weeks but screams for an hour to an hour and half every afternoon/evening between 4 and 6pm. She has her bath and last bottle between 6.30 and 7pm she sleeps untill 6am only waking once between 2 and 4 am.

I can not get to her drink/eat more. Should i speak to the Hv or leave it for a couple of weeks.

shrinkingsagpuss · 23/11/2007 22:06

lizziemum - when does she sleep during the day? It might not be feeding - it might be tiredness?

OP posts:
JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 23/11/2007 22:11

The problem doesn't sound like it's how much she eats, or the frequency, so much as the screaming in the evening, which might not be down to feeding at all.

James was having a nightly scream a few weeks back before we got him into a routine. I was trying to cuddle him down for sleep when I thought babies should be in bed- which was before he was ready. Eventually I just gave up and let him play in his bouncy chair/watch TV until he was drowsy, and suddenly we had no more night time screaming. (Now though he has milk, then a bath, then more milk and he falls asleep for 8.30pm)

I know you say she has a feed every 4 hours, but sometimes they like to tank up in the evening. James has two 6oz bottles crammed into the four hours before bed, which carries him through to 7am-ish. Have you tried offering more milk when she has her screaming session?

Also, are you sure it isn't colic? does she have much wind? and could it be teething? does she drool a lot or have red cheeks? Does se nap much during the day? If J has barely any sleep during the day he's REALLY cranky at night.

Hope this helps!

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 23/11/2007 22:11

Ah, sagpuss put it so much more concisely than me! lol

lizziemun · 24/11/2007 07:45

Sorry went and had a bath while it was quite.

Her normal routine is

6.30am - Bottle

7.30am - Sleep until

10.30am - Bottle then sleep until

2.30pm - Bottle then she normally plays with dd1 and she dozes of and on until

6pm - when she has her bath

6.30pm - 7pm last bottle the bed. She goes to bed realy well and only wakes in the early hours for a bottle.

The reason she sleeps between 7.30 am and 2pm is i have to walk dd1 to school which is half a mile away so the fresh air knocks her out.

I think you could be right James she might be hungry late afternoon i think i try another bottle 5ish and see what happens.

She is just so different to DD1.

Uki · 24/11/2007 10:07

Hi all

hey James remember how you used to list your what were they naughty/bad mummy moments. I liked reading those so funny because i identified with them, and doing all the things you said you wouldn't- TV, bottle feeding, etc.

Anyway here's mine....I put LL in a baby comp i don't care at all about winning though!!! it was just something to do for the day, and all the photos are being published in the paper, which i thought could be nice. it was up to age 5 but lots of toddlers wouldn't smile but when i put LL in front of the camera i said 'smile bubba' and he did and then they said try another and he did 'a bigger smile' and then he did another, very cure

not much else happening. LL went to bed very early 5pm. I'm doing 4 days work next week, so hoping LL takes bottle OK, I'll miss him lots i think.

Hope everyone and our Augies are well

Uki · 24/11/2007 10:11

oops cute, I don't even know what the baby comp prize is? so would be funny if we did win, but not very likely.

anyone getting LO's anything intresting for christmas? i can't think, as he has so many hand me downs.

tasha21 · 24/11/2007 11:01

lizziemun- if your worried about it then have a wee chat with hv theres no harm in it. but lo had a certain time of night where he would just scream and there was no calming him i mentioned to the hv and she said it must be colic, which apparently isnt wind its just a certain time of the day where baby cries, i used to be able to set my watch to it. any time ive had a problem with how much lo is taking which is only 3oz but hes still small, the hv says its fine if they are putting on wieght? if it is colic theres not much really you can do, lo grew out of it. but def talk to your health visitor

tasha21 · 24/11/2007 11:16

james- omg hes a big boy wat did he wiegh when he was born? my cousin is 6 months old and wieghs 14 pound lol
uki- there is a thread of bad mummy moments lol they make you feel not so bad
pinkrangernowwobbles- thats brilliant your little one is into a good routine, any tips?
mamamila-def not weaning yet, nothing against the ones that are lo is just not ready i think ill have to wait till 9 months?
pink- id really need to start too, but it doesnt help that ds keeps saying im fat! makes me want to put on weight to show him wat fat is
Elenor-shes adorable

em wat else, christmas, i was going through their presents the other day and found out ive not actually finished
ds1 got a playmobil castle as main present
ds2 got a kithen as main present
ds3 got a baby rocker walker as main present lol i know hes a bit small

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 24/11/2007 17:59

Hi Guys,

I'm being a meanie mummy, I'm probably not going to get James anything this christmas. Money's beyond tight and he's not aware of what's happening, plus everyone in my family is talking about what they'll buy him, so he won't go short. I'd rather wait for next christmas when he can rip open some presents!

Tasha, he was 7lb 2oz at birth, went down to 6lb 4oz after a couple of weeks, and now he's shot up! Goodness knows what he'll weigh by 6 months, but he's not "fat" though. He has a good layer of chub but nothing to worry about. This baby looks quite fat by comparison.

Uki- oh I have plenty of bad mummy moments still. Yesterday's classic was when I attempted to take off his bib without realising it had old fashioned scratchy velcro on it. I yanked it off, and managed to leave a big red scratch across the back of his neck. He cried and I didn't even realise why til later, then I felt uber-mean.

Oh, or later when he was in his bouncy chair under his plastic baby gym frame, and I was jiggling the chair with my toe whilst reading. I had a bit of a brainfart and forgot what I was doing for a minute... and enthusiastically stomped my foot on the frame of the bouncer, so lo shot forward and nutted the plastic fish on the baby gym.

And we won't go into me almost using bonjela instead of bepanthen on his nappy rash...

tasha21 · 24/11/2007 18:34

no way, that pic is unreal lol!! my ds2 is quite a wee chub its soo cute the way he walks around more of a wadle with 2 tvs under his arms lol
aww poor james
when ds2 was a baby i lay him on my bed to go and clean ds1 shoe we lived in a bungalow so i was on the same level but all of a sudden i heard ds1 crying so i ran in and he had toppled the shelf over and there was a tv on the top and all i seen was ds2s body with a tv(small but not the point) on his head and he wasnt crying!!! i swear i have never paniced so much in my life i grabbed him and just started jumping and screaming about the house??lol phoned my mum hysterical she came round but he was fine not a mark on him?? musta had a wee angel with him
