A group for those Autumn Mamas whose babies arrived in September or October 2018!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
PirateWeasel · 11/10/2018 06:39

Hi everyone, congrats on all the new arrivals! My little man arrived on 25 September. To all those commenting that they are getting DH or parents to do a day/night shift with the baby...I'm guessing you are expressing into bottles or formula feeding? My HV is really against me expressing and not sure why if it's as usual as it seems from this thread. Have I just got a really strict HV or am I missing a trick here?

Peanut91 · 11/10/2018 07:17

@pirateweasel I am FF and it was one of the reasons I decided to so that my husband could help out

snowy1982 · 11/10/2018 07:45

@pirateweasal, I am combination feeding, my LO lost too much weight initially and my supply took a long time to come in, so my MW told me to do formula top ups. My supply still seems to be low so still using formula. When DH does nights I express so LO is still getting both in his feed

snowy1982 · 12/10/2018 07:25

So my wee man is sounding very snuffly, feel so bad for him Sad

oreolovegood · 12/10/2018 08:18

Our little one got admitted to icu yesterday for weight loss. She was born at 7lb13 and admitted at 6lb 7. Hoping we get to come hone with her again soon Sad

snowy1982 · 12/10/2018 14:46

@oreolovegood, sorry to here that, hopefully she’ll pile the weight back on and get home quickly

niclw · 12/10/2018 15:02

@oreolovegood I hope she goes home soon.

niclw · 12/10/2018 15:05

@oreolovegood My LO had a cold the other day and I used a saline spray that is suitable for use from birth to help clear his nose. It helped him sleep better. Got it from Tesco in the baby section. Might be worth a try. Hope he feels less snuffly soon x

snowy1982 · 12/10/2018 17:44

@niclw, was that meant for me about the spray? If so thanks, I’ll try and get some

niclw · 12/10/2018 22:24

@snowy1982 Yes sorry. Had a tough day and didn't notice my mistake.

My LO has been so unsettled today. We are at my parents and have had loads of visitors as my mum wants to show off her grandson. The problem is that he doesn't like lots of people around. Thankfully it should be just 2 tomorrow tllll

snowy1982 · 12/10/2018 22:32

@niclw, a lot of visitors at a time can be very unsettling, my LO seems to love them though, he is on his best behaviour when people are visiting.

justtowarm · 14/10/2018 09:11

@oreolovegood hope you are doing ok, I had to be readmitted with my now 2 year old because of weight loss and dehydration, i had a big haemorrhage and did not know it could stop your milk supply from coming in I was only producing about 10mls very 3 hours. it was a really upsetting experience. I really felt like I had let my baby down (I know now it was hormones playing havoc). If you feel the same it does get better and be kind to yourself. I had to give formula top ups until I was able to get my milk supply up.

My little one this time is now two weeks old and is not gaining weight still an 8% loss and jaundice, so I have switched to formula completely they advised top ups, but when I said I was going to formula feed completely the midwives were really supportive. I struggled to keep breastfeeding for a long time with my son (lots of pumping) and for the first few months of his life I was constantly worried about feeding him and weight gain (which was never good until he started solids). This time I have decided to move straight onto formula as i don't think i could take going through all of that again (and I'm a pretty emotionally robust person).

I am finding it some much less stressful already and just keep telling myself breastfeeding is only the best option if it's going well and is not making your baby ill.

twobambinos · 14/10/2018 22:41

@oreolovegood hope you and lo are doing OK. Lo will be piling on the weight before you know it. Sending you big hugs.

Had a very teary weekend here. I think it's hormones. Lo is very unsettled at times and it's stressful but I find its other things that are setting me off with the tears. I haven't been outside the door in the last week and usually I don't go a day without being outside. We have an appointment tomorrow though so will have to brave it then.

When our first was born we had nearly a queue at the front door waiting to get in. Now on our third it has calmed down a lot. But I still dread them. I know that sounds awful. But I was just enjoying the bubble of it being put little family and some people I just don't want to be entertaining.

oreolovegood · 15/10/2018 11:48

@twobambinos @justtowarm thank you. We were able to take her home yesterday but she's been sucking up all of her feeds since she's been back home. They are weighing her again tomorrow and there's a midwife coming out today to check her now she's been discharged. Hoping she will pick up soon and we can have a happy little healthy baby in no time Smile

2ndPGchimp · 15/10/2018 12:34

Oh @oreolovegood that sounds stressful. Hope she picks up soon.

I can't believe I have a week old already. We have our tongue tie visit tomorrow and rely hoping it helps as the feeding is still quite painful.

laurenluke2017 · 15/10/2018 22:44

Hi everyone. My son was born at 10:56 by planned caesarean section weighing 8lbs 8oz he is a beautiful healthy little boy. Even after my section this morning I am up and about! Very happy ftm here xx

niclw · 16/10/2018 08:12

@laurenluke2017 Congratulations x

snowy1982 · 16/10/2018 09:05

Congratulations @laurenluke2017

@orealovegood glad to hear your LO is home and doing better.

My wee man has slept through the night for 2 nights in a row, trying not to get my hopes up that it lasts but it has been great. On the not so great side he has been a wee demon during the day, not wanting to be set down at all

nervousFTM · 16/10/2018 10:21

@twobambinos I understand the desire to be locked away as a little family for a while 💕 This is my first and I've found visitors (even family!) a bit overwhelming at times especially as it can easily throw out feeding/sleeping - both mine and my baby's! Hope you're feeling a bit better now.

@oreolovegood Good luck with the weigh in today. Let us know how it goes! I'm going to take my LO to clinic tomorrow to get weighed. She was preemie (due date is actually this coming Sunday) and 5lbs 6 at birth. I'm so hoping she's up to 7lbs now as that means I can use the bouncer and ergo carrier - she still feels too small even for the caboo sling though.

Yay congrats @laurenluke2017! 💙 how are you feeling?

@snowy1982 I'm a bit jealous 😊 I'm still waking my baby to feed every four hours although she usually wakes me before my alarm. I think she's having a growth spurt (I've no idea how to measure her development as she was 5 weeks and a day early) as she would not get off the boob yesterday and is a little more cranky than usual.

snowy1982 · 16/10/2018 11:27

My wee man feeds an awful lot during the day but thankfully goes longer at night, even before the last 2 wonder nights he was only waking once most nights.

i have no doubt he is trying to lure me into a false sense of security with the sleeping

niclw · 16/10/2018 18:07

Just found out that my LO has tongue tie. It's not a bad a many others but does explain why he feeds for 50 mins at a time with only a short break between feeds. If he hadn't been so unhappy at being stripped and weighed I wouldn't know now but the health visitor noticed as she spoke to be at the clinic. My usual one had only seen him when he was content.

snowy1982 · 17/10/2018 06:14

@niclw, are they referring him to get it cut?

So my LO was definitely luring me into a false sense of security, after 2 nights of sleeping through he was bright as a button most of last night Sad

niclw · 17/10/2018 07:32

@snowy1982 They put a referral in yesterday to the tongue tie clinic. So hopefully it will get sorted quickly. Apparently they will only do it around this area if the baby is exclusively breastfed. Thankfully mine is.

nervousFTM · 17/10/2018 08:46

Ladies my friend's son has tongue tie and she's been taking him to a cranial osteopath which she said really helped, In case you want to consider that.

I am back teaching yoga once a fortnight now, first class being 6:30 AM today. My little girl decided to keep me up until 1 AM at which point, for the first time since her birth, I handed her to my husband and headed off to the spare room for a solid, quiet, uninterrupted three hour sleep. He did so well (😂) that I'm going to hand her over for one night this weekend, and he can do a kind of night nanny role where he will bring her into me for feeds but he does everything else. I can't tell you how excited I am to trial this!

Thegirlhasnoname · 19/10/2018 13:06

I had my daughter via emergency section on 5/10/18 and feel a little overwhelmed now my husband has gone back to work. I know that taking her out for a walk will be good for both of us - even if she does sleep through it! - but I’m stupidly nervous about doing so; is this normal would you say? Maybe I’m just being an over anxious first time mum!
