@nervousFTM here we go! We are the OG's!

I was due 1st October (5th by my dates) but had an elective section on 24th september due to previous section and big baby. This one ended up being 'unstable lie' , mostly transverse, so would have needed one anyway.

Thank you @ladydolly 💕

I was due 21/10 but baby popped out (and I can almost say that literally) on 15/09 just over five weeks early. Managed to push on gas and air alone and no tear! I did have a phenomenal midwife though. We were on the postnatal ward for three nights as our little girl needed phototherapy for jaundice. We also needed to monitor her blood sugar levels (which were always good) and grow bacteria to check all was fine with her lungs. Poor little thing had to have antibiotics via a cannula for two days ☹️

First week at home I felt primal and powerful, like I was born to be her mum. Second week has been tinged with anxiety and guilt as I feel it's my fault she's so early (I suffered from eating issues for 25 years). Her birth weight was 5lbs 6 so not bad, and all midwife/HV visits have been great, but I guess I just like to self flagellate!

Am weeks ahead of my antenatal classmates so feeling a little lonely although my husband does a great job too. Mum lives a couple of hours away, I do have a good friend who is local on her second child (who is 6 days older than my baby) but haven't managed to see her yet as they're all sick.

Anyway looking forward to this thread getting filled with new mums first/second/third time etc 😁 thanks for starting it Lady 💕

Are we going to share birth stories!?!

ladydolly · 29/09/2018 19:45

@nervousftm I think these early weeks are a hormonal rollercoaster. Most of my anxiety is about dd1 and changes tonher life rather than anything for dd2!

Have you tried the Mush app? You can find local mums and meet ups, also another place to talk about mum stuff!

Ohhh I love a birth story! Go for it!!

Hi all, my little girl arrived via planned section on 27th September at 39 weeks gestation. She's absolutely beautiful!

We're settling in to being a family of four and couldn't be happier. I'm having some trouble with breastfeeding this time around so am currently combi feeding with expressed milk and formula which seems to be working well at the moment. Hope all you new mums are doing well! X

snowy1982 · 02/10/2018 16:13

Hi all, can I join in? My little boy arrived by emcs on 14th September. He wasn’t coping with labour well, his heart rate kept decreasing and there was meconium in waters so although I was at 9cms the doc wanted him out asap, thankfully he was fine Smile

First week and a half or so was grand, my milk supply didn’t seem to come in properly so he lost a lot of weight initially but we went in formula top ups and he quickly regained weight.

Last week or so he has been very unsettled though, really struggling with getting wind up, no matter how long we work at it he always seems to have some wind left. DH and I am both working on next to no sleep at the minute and I’m dreading him going back to work next week. Anyone got any tips for wind?

DailyFailAreTwats · 02/10/2018 16:24

Joining too! DD born 19th Sept at 39+4. First born and I'm clueless!!

ladydolly · 02/10/2018 16:53

We're all clueless!! Even those who've done it before.

Wind. You could try winding half way through feed. Some respond better to patting over shoulder than bouncing on knee. We also try sitting on lap, gently tip back to laying and back up to sitting.
Lay them on the floor or your lap an fold up so their feet are going towards their face (gently and don't force).
Tummy massage also works well, www.babycentre.co.uk/v25011607/baby-massage-helping-digestion-video

And lastly carry in the tiger in the tree hold
www.littlebrown.co.uk/Piatkus/babycalm-by-sarah-ockwell-smith-sneak-peek.page

I also avoid spicy and windy foods when early breastfeeding, baby tummies are still new at the digestion game and these made it worse for me.

Hope these help!!

Thanks @ladydolly, unfortunately we’ve tried all of those techniques, I wind him 4-5 times every feed (and he always brings up some very big burps) and for a good 20mins after at least and he still seems really uncomfortable. Currently giving him infacol before each feed and it doesn’t seem to be helping much. Don’t want to change his formula just yet as we had changed it last week (shop didn’t have what we’d been using) and that seems to have been what started the problems off. We have him back on the original one now so wanting to give him a few more days to see if he settles down again.

I’m sure we’ll get there with him eventually but it’s difficult in the meantime

ladydolly · 02/10/2018 17:05

Are you thinking cmpa? I don't know much about it to be honest. What about anti colic bottles?

OP posts:
snowy1982 · 02/10/2018 17:27

I’m hoping not. I hope it’s just that we changed formula, when we did he got very bunged up, didn’t pop for 2 days, no we’re back on the original formula he is starting to poo again and it’s starting to get more regular again, so I hope in another day or so things will fully settle down. It’s just heartbreaking not being able to figure out why he seems so pained Sad

DailyFailAreTwats · 02/10/2018 18:05

Slightly embarrassing - but is anyone else leaking urine? I gave birth 2 weeks ago, fast labour, no issues and only a couple of stitches. But I've noticed that I'm leaking urine into my mat pads. I'm not incontinent, but I'm not feeling any need to go when it happens. Is this usual??

ConfusionIsNothingNew · 02/10/2018 19:45

Hey everyone, hopping in here now as I had my DD by c section last Thursday, 27th September. I had quite a difficult delivery as I'd lots of adhesions from my previous section and lost quite a lot of blood. Feeling better now just tired.

DD is just perfect although quite a slow feeder and has lost 10% of her body weight but midwife isn't concerned as otherwise she's bright and alert.

Is there a FB group for sept/Oct babies?

niclw · 03/10/2018 19:07

Hi. Hope it's ok to join you all. I had my baby boy on 22nd September after a 34 hour labour. Ended up with a ventouse delivery. Ended up back at the hospital on Friday due to increased bleeding. Turns out I've got a uti and anaemia which can both cause extra bleeding apparently. Other than that we are both good. Breastfeeding has been going well and my baby has regained all the weight he lost in the first five days. I feel that I'm coping reasonably well for a single mum. My parents have been amazing and my dad is driving the hour and a half to spend his day off with us tomorrow and to give me a chance to catch up on sleep.

snowy1982 · 03/10/2018 19:43

Hi @niclw, sorry to hear you were back in hospital, hope you are feeling better now.

My wee man had his tongue tie snipped today so hoping to see some improvement in breastfeeding now

nervousFTM · 03/10/2018 20:06

Love seeing more ladies join this thread!

@OddlyDesserted congrats on your little girl! How is your older DC taking to the new addition? Hope feeding still going well.

@snowy1982 our babies are only a day apart 😁 glad your baba arrived in the best way for him. Well done on getting his weight back up. My 5 week preemie little girl went from 5lbs6 birth weight to 5lbs12 in two weeks so am thrilled about that. She also seems to suffer from bad wind so thanks to @ladydolly for the tips and links. I'm worried it's something I'm eating or drinking, could it be dairy?

@DailyFail not sure what that could be. Talk to GP and in meantime lots of pelvic floor?? Are you 100% that it's urine, though not sure what else it would be

@Confusion glad you are feeling better now. Not sure about Facebook group but let us know if you find out there is one!

@niclw Congrats on your baby! Is this your first and only? My DD is my first and I really take my hat off to you for being a single mum. That said, my hubby can be pretty useless sometimes and I have to send him to the spare room to catch up on his sleep so I don't feel I'm looking after two babies 😂 your folks sound amazing. My mum and sis were up today to babysit while I had some 'me' time at yoga - just such a help. Enjoy your day tomorrow! Lots of napping 😊

On a diff track... My DD has just developed a bit of baby acne/milia on her face 😢 and I'm wondering if it's my diet (dairy?) or the hard water I am having to wash her with (live in London). On the plus side she finally lost her umbilical cord at age 2 weeks and 4 days!

snowy1982 · 03/10/2018 20:15

@nervousftm my ds has milia as well, as far as I can tell it’s pretty normal, especially for it to kick in at the 2 week mark

ladydolly · 03/10/2018 20:19

@nervousftm lots/most babies get 'baby acne', it will gradually disappear.

On the wind front, its hard to tell isn't it? I was convinced dd1 had an allergy (dp is very allergic to dairy/eggs) but it was just her brand new body learning to digest. Dd2 is having the same experience so I'm again assuming it's fine. Poo is normal and no bringing it back up so just going to give it time.

There is a facebook group that started from a couple of girls from here but it's now 100 people and mostly from other sites or connections. Still happy to add you, you'd need to add me first then I'll add you as its a closed group.

NakedMum33and3rd · 03/10/2018 20:26

Hi! Can I join?

I had a home birth with DS3 on 29th sept. Was 40+2. Hired a birthing pool but ended up giving birth on my sofa instead!
Things are going well although I am struggling with the lack of sleep already and my two other DS's. I
feel quite guilty that I can't be as involved with them as I would like to at the moment!

nervousFTM · 03/10/2018 20:35

Thanks ladies am hoping her milia will disappear soon as it looks so painful (even though I know it's not) 🤞🏼

@ladydolly yes I guess she has no issues with filling nappies so that's good. She does occasionally throw up a feed (fun for me as half an hour later she wants another full feed!) which has only happened in the last few days. At what point does this become a concern?

As she's preemie I've already taken her to A&E and the GP worrying about her breathing and her nighttime grunting while she sleeps - don't want to keep taking her in as it's just exposing her to hospital environments which may make her more likely to pick up a bug 😫 anyone else's baby a very loud sleeper!?

DwangelaForever · 03/10/2018 20:40

I was due 10th October but has my boy on 20th September by ELCS due to obstetric cholestasis, can't believe he's 2 weeks tomorrow and he's not even due yet!!Shock

nervousFTM · 03/10/2018 21:19

@DwangelaForever know the feeling - my girl is 2 weeks 4 days old and wasn't due until 21st Oct! I feel better now that if she was still in my tummy she'd be over 37 weeks now 💕

snowy1982 · 03/10/2018 23:07

@nervousftm, yip I have a very noisy sleeper, he grunts and groans and breathes really loudly, then goes so so quiet that I panic something is wrong
