Well i think i was the frist to 'pop' from the due in june thread so i thought it was about time we started the post-natal thread.

DS2 is 2 weeks on monday I had him 4 weeks early due to induction for OC. Everything is going really well and i think things are finally starting to settle down (i hope i haven't just spoken too soon!!)

He is really suffering with colic though and were getting about 4 hours sleep a night on average and with a 2.5 year old there is no chance of catching up in the day, but i shouldn't complain as i'm lucky to have got two wonderful boys. Thats it now NO MORE!!!!!9smile0

I know a few other june mums have had their babies so it would be lovely to hear from you to see how you are all getting on (when you get the chance )

Hi derlor. Thanks for your concern. I'm going to ring the surgery later and get a number for her, when I get a free hand. Poor LO has bad wind again and hasn't slept for more than 20mins straight today. Payback for my 5 hours last night!

bumperlicious · 04/07/2007 13:52

Sorry, just read that back and hope it didn't sound short! one handed typing! An email would be great derlor, but you should be on a break from your hv duties!

derlor · 04/07/2007 13:52

Bumper, you DESERVE your 5 hours sleep my love!!
Are you giving 2 squirts of infacol before EVERY feed? have you tried New Era homeopathic colic remedy?

derlor · 04/07/2007 13:54

Not at all - i'm impressed with your 1 handed typing

OK i'll sort out that email for you now x

bumperlicious · 04/07/2007 14:08

We were giving her infacol, but the osteopath seemed to think it was digestive wind fermenting in her bowels and gut rather than wind in her tummy from feeding, so we didn't think the infacol was helping. Seeing him has mostly helped, she hadn't had any probs until yesterday evening since we saw him. Seeing him gain friday.

Also she keeps doing a little retching/choking motion then appears to be chewing on something. hope this isn't reflux.

just had a call from hv, she is coming tomorrow.

derlor · 04/07/2007 14:17

Bumper you have email!!! feeding time back later x

bumperlicious · 04/07/2007 14:32

Thank derlor. will respond properly when i have 2 hands! Left one going dead at the moment with this big windy lump on it!

Jamantha · 04/07/2007 15:11

just had time to have a look through messages to see how everyone else is fairing. Sorry to hear about wind issues. hope things improve. My LO gets hiccups after every feed just about, and makes plenty of farty noises but very little wind at the top end, even after long periods of burping. Will bear Trendaverters comment about boiled water for hiccups in mind - so far they don't really seem to bother her too much, she even manages to feed quite well through them.

We had a follow up visit to the osteopath this morning, and everything now seems to be fine. Her feeding has certainly picked up no end over the past week.

As for sleep, hugs to those who are suffering from lack of it. I've had a few days where C hasn't settled much all day, so appreciate how tiring it is. But today is 2nd day of her sleeping like am angel and giving me a nice afternoon nap - so hope these things are just passing phases for everyone else too. I'm sure I'll have my turn at exhaustion again soon, but am certainly makign the most of it in the meantime!

bumperlicious · 04/07/2007 15:22

Glad the osteopath helped Jamantha. My mw said that feeding may actually help the hiccups!

Still one handed as dd won't sleep in her basket at the moment as she is in pain from the wind. She seems to stay more settled when one of us is holding her through it. God, I'm gagging for a cuppa but daren't move!

Jamantha · 04/07/2007 15:32

That's exactly how I was a couple of days ago Bumper. I ordered a sling with the hope that I could then get up of the sofa with her, and it arrived yesterday morning and sicne then she's slept in her basket brillaintly! Probably as well, as I haven't totally got to grips with the sling yet. Think I will take it to the Baby Cafe on Friday and hope that some of the mums have some experience with these things and can help me out.

Hope you (both) get some relief soon!

daisyandbabybootoo · 04/07/2007 15:52

hi guys...rainy and windy

bumper......have you tried massaging her tummy or cycling her legs. if you gently rub her tummy in a clockwise direction, it can help shift it if its in her intestines. make sure its always clockwise though...as thats the way the gut is coiled.

hope you are suitably not nice to your HV tomorrow.....make sure she knows how pissed off you are!

sputnik · 04/07/2007 15:53

poor Trace and Chloe, hope things get better for them soon.

Daisy, I just posted on your real nappy thread.

daisyandbabybootoo · 04/07/2007 15:55

oooh i'm off t look now!

daisyandbabybootoo · 04/07/2007 16:08

cheers sputnik......my biggest concern is the number i need and the amount of washing i'll be doing.

at the moment we're getting through 12-16 a day, so 24 isn't really going to cut the mustard. unbelievably we've never had a nappy that's been just wet.....she poos after a feed, and in between feeds and quite often just before a feed too (after you've just changed the last nappy...obviously )

I'm going to get a few sample packs, and our local council does some sort of scheme where they give you money off, but I like the look of the bamboozles, especially the coloured ones.

trendaverter · 04/07/2007 16:18

Little man has been screaming the place down again, and I had a revelation - I think he is constipated!
He hadn't done a poo in over 8 hours and was screaming his guts out, nothing consoled him except food, which he would vom everywhere, so I looked up constipation remedies and they suggest cooled boiled water!
He doesn't like it much but it seems to be doing the trick, he did a poo and is much calmer (although still in some discomfort but he is sleeping at least).

And it stopped his hiccups too

Worth noting if anyone else is having similar issues?

trendaverter · 04/07/2007 16:27

oh and for those on the nappy subject, I just tried some 'nature care' nappies (you can get them from Sainsbury's), the biggest pile of crap ever, what a waste of money.

The pee goes straight through them at the front and just drain out the back, I had to wash all the bedding once today at 6am due to vom, and now I have to wash it all again because of rubbish nappies.
And they were too tight.

Just fyi!!

sputnik · 04/07/2007 16:36

Daisy, hopefully the number of nappies you use will go down very soon anyway, you could always use a mix of reusables and disposables, you'll still be saving landfill. Baby Spunik also poos in nearly every nappy (as well as in the sink and a spectacular projectile poo across the bedroom floor last night - luckily we don't have carpets), when I get my small nappies and wraps back from the person i lent them out to I'll be doing the wrap and booster thing, as wetness isn't really an issue at this stage. The washing isn't that bad really, you're probably doing more atm anyway

daisyandbabybootoo · 04/07/2007 16:41

sputnik, ikwym about wetness not being an issue...we get lots of nappies that have just poo in them and are bone dry otherwise.

TA...gkad you've found a solution to your problem...constipation is quite common in FF babies...don't know why no-one thought of that . i don't know whether changing formula would make a difference. i used farley's with ds, as this was recommended by my HV.

sputnik · 04/07/2007 16:42

When I tried to take Baby Sputnik's temperature rectally the other day he pooed 4 times in 5 minutes. Worth bearing in mind for constipation. A friend of mine said she used a parsley stalk on her DS (and she told me in front of him, and he was 17 by then, poor lad).

lilKelBel · 04/07/2007 17:11

a parsley stock?
doesn't seem quite rigid enough IYKWIM??

Despite the osteo visits, S is still getting terrible trapped wind! I can totally see it in her belly. Dont' know where it's coming from but I guess logically it's either 1) from her gulping or 2) from her formula. The infacol should help if it's 1 - but no - and switching her formula should help if it's 2 - but no - so all I can do is sit and wait for her to explode as she's asleep now....GAHHHH

sputnik · 04/07/2007 17:47

Lilkel, you are having such a tough time, I really feel for you. DD had similar problems with wind - you could see her tummy crunching up. don't know what to suggest, we tried various things from medication, to fennel tea, and other herbal concotions, leg cycling etc. But it sounds like you've already done all of these. Nothing really resolved it, she just grew out of it with time. How's her growth now? Maybe you could try spacing out her feeds more so she can digest longer?

Jamantha · 04/07/2007 17:49

Daisyboo - my Lo also poos nearly every nappy. We're just switching to reusables, and have bought 20 (diddy diapers). Suspect that at the moment this might not quite be enough, so may have to use some disposables too for a while, but hope that things will settle down soon. Am told that the number of nappies per day should go down, so fingers crossed.

Incidentally, Trendaverter, I'm sure that we've been usig the Nature care nappies (we Cget them from Sainsburys and they're called nature something anyway) and have had no problems with them.

trendaverter · 04/07/2007 18:04

Perhaps our little man just has big legs or something then, as I looked up reviews and people do seem quite happy with them, but I have tried a few now and leaks every time!

sputnik · 04/07/2007 18:19

I think I had maybe 8 or 10 small size nappies with DD, but didn't start using them til about 2 months, and it's hot here so they dried quickly. She also grew very fast so we actually skipped buying medium sized nappies and went into large or one-size. I had about 4 or 5 wraps for each size, most of the time you just need to rinse the inner side and they dry really quickly.

Moltex are good as a more eco-friendly disposable, never had leakage with them.

justbeme · 04/07/2007 19:06
