I had real problems with Jack with meat so i'm being carefull this time, when do you think it's best to introduce it?

Love the title charlee,oh no stace is he ok?

saralou100 · 07/05/2007 18:03

love it!!!

stacey hope your brothers ok?????

mygirllollipop · 07/05/2007 18:11

Stace - hope your DB is OK
Debbsy - I'd go for it. I know I could get shot down for having an opinion on MN but I here goes. When my big two were little the advice was to wean at 4m so that's all I'm used to. However the difference also was that DD3 and 4 are/were BF and DD1 and 2 were not. I found with the youngest two the weaning was more 'slack' than structed weaning of DD1&2. I would say waking more often was a sign, and BLW relies on them looking forelornly (is that a word) at food and reaching for it. All my 4 started on baby rice, then fruit purees then veg purees then meals then the lumpy stuff. This is where all babies are different. DD1&2 hated puree with lumps type foods but would eat puree and toast. DD3 wasn't particularly impressed with weaning but loves her proper food. DD4 loves her puree and we'll have to find out if she's going to be like DD1&2 in not liking the second stage jars types.
ANyhow the other advise is give really runny 2 teaspoons (IIRC) then up to a few more over a week then less runny then more meals per day. Introduce new flavours one at a time if they don't seem to like it leave it and introduce later (a week).

LeBe · 07/05/2007 20:07

Ah Satcey i hope he is ok.
I agree with you mygirl you used to be told to wean at 3 months then 4 and now 6 and on the packets on the food it says 4months plus and they wouldn't be allowed to put that if it was dangerous.
Alfie has all sorts, the est recipes i found were on Annabel Karmel's website I made all the veg and fruit ones and now he's 6months has the fish, chicken, spag bol and pork and apricot recipes and loves them all. Ive just started giving him the pasta shapes cos i want him to have a bit of texture now cos i dont want him to get to use to purees.
I also brought her sauces and freezing trays from Boots (A god send!!)

LeBe · 07/05/2007 20:08

Oh yeah and Petit Filous are his absolute favourite and are suitable for 4months plus cos they have no egg etc. Hope that helps!

podglet · 07/05/2007 20:23

Ok, going to attempt a catch up...

NJ - lovely new photo
Stacey - oh, that is terrible - is your DB ok? Not a good week for you - have a hug.
Charlee - thanks for the new thread - great title how's DS1?

Debbsy - the WHO say not to wean until 26 weeks but I know very few people who have held on for this long. I was determined to wait but DS was showing all the "signs" of being more hungry and I caved in at Easter - he was 23 weeks. He hated baby rice with a passion until I stirred in some apple puree He has never eaten really runny stuff but is still not too keen on big lumps. He will eat all root veg (parsnip, carrot, sweet potato etc) apple, pear, banana, mango, peach etc and I have just stared on broccoli / cauliflower / chicken and ham. Now, before your head starts spinning, as you are fully aware, every baby is different and your DS might like more runny. I have found it is a bit trial and error! He also loves the Petit filous things too though!

There are a gazillion threads about when to wean on here - have you tried a "dream" feed with DS when you go to bed?

mygirllollipop · 07/05/2007 20:46

Oh yeah forgot to add another of my DD's 'things' about weaning is that they wre never fond of runny food. It was easier to wean DD1&2 in some respects. Because they were bottle fed you could slip the bottle out slip a spoonful of 'solids' in and they could carry on with their interupted bottle. Also if they were messy it didn't matter about sticking a bottle in their mouths, whereas when they are BF you don't want to shove a messy mouth near your breast! It's more like a meal than get a bit of solids down them before bed with BF babies - maybe this is just IME.
Well I've got a LOT of tidying on my plate before we (hopefully) move.

debbsyandsonn · 07/05/2007 21:08

thanks all knew i could count on you, well i gave him one teaspoon of heinz baby rice and mixed it with warmed up bottled milk.(is this right) he loved it everytime i stopped he cried for more, but gor to admit that i did get a bit scared of giving him too much that stopped (in case he choked or something) and gave him the rest of his milk 8 ozs.Dream feed? is this what you give them when they are sleeping? to wake them to feed?If it is ive never done that ds usually has a bottle at 6-7 then goes to sleep till well it has been 4 but he has been going till 12.30pm then 2amthen 6am thats why i thought it was time for the baby rice,i made it so it was like single cream very runny is this right?
Sorry for so many questions but weaning is the one thing that scares me witless as i have no clue what to do?

LeBe · 07/05/2007 21:29

Ahj well done Debbsy sounds like he loved it, he was obviously ready if he took it well, hopefully you will get a good night sleep! I know how you feel i had no clue when I started weaning but now I just go by what Alfie tells me, if hes had enough he spits it out if he wants more he cries when its all gone and if he doesnt like it he turns his nose up! Dont worry you will be a pro before long just get ready for the mess!!!!
Ive got a great piccie of Alfie of his first dinner (carotts) i will put it on my profile thingy!
As for consistency i think it is trial and error i started off really runny and now it lots thicker but some people start off really thick, i think it depends on baby!
Well done

debbsyandsonn · 07/05/2007 21:36

thank you got to admit i did shed a tear!!but i think that its also part of me leaving ds tomorrow and weds as ive been asked to atend a course with work, dont worry i am getting extra time off.

mygirllollipop · 07/05/2007 21:52

Debbsy - I'd have given him the rice until he was bored of it but that's me!
WOW - DD4 has just sat herself up from lying I'm well impressed!

Charleesunnysunsun · 08/05/2007 08:39

Hi Podglet.
Jack is doing ok although he has got a bit chesty again over the last few days and his nose is streaming, hopefully it's just a cold but i'm keeping my fingers crossed it doesm't turn nasty and they don't take him back in hospital again.
FIL wantsd to take him to Florida to see Seaworld next yr so i am getting round to finding out if he can fly as i know some airlines like to provide on board oxygen tanks for CF paitients.

Well done Debs for takinf that big leap into waening! I keep thinking Harry is still only a newborn but then i look at the size of the little chunk and realinse he is 25 weeks! eek!
Then all the NB worries fade and the next ones begin like 'is he progressing properly' 'should be be doing x,y,z yet?' ect ect!
The joy of babies eh!

OP posts:
podglet · 08/05/2007 14:23

Well done Debs - that first meal is a tear jerker isn't it? Hope you get on ok on your course thing - glad you got the extra time. Hope DS is ok too.

Had a horror this morning, DS was messing with his breakfast - he had just had a whole bottle so wasn't interested in the mango and apple I had lovingly made he was sat on my lap and I bent down to see if he had finished his mouthful, just as he swung his head up in protest. We clashed heads and now he has a bump on it I cried more than he did, thinking I had really hurt him. He seems fine though, is currently trying to bend backwards in his bouncer, to look at Tiggers tail

On the plus side, at very nearly 27 weeks, he weighs 18lb 8oz and is 74cm long!

Charlee - glad DS1 is ok. Florida would be fab if he is able to go. I went 5 years ago and loved it!

mygirllollipop · 08/05/2007 18:21

DD4 has gone from being a right little fattie to just below average, she is 24 weeks and weighs 16lb. She was fine having her jab.
Podglet - it'll not be the last time something like that happens, it does get a touch easier though. Not nice whenever it happens, I bet he's not thought about it since!

LeBe · 08/05/2007 23:06

Wow Podglet he is a big boy isnt he! I thought Alfie was a good size at 25weeks and 17lb 1oz but thats only cos my friends boy is the total other end of the scale and maks him look like a porker!
Honestly I have banged and scratched Alfie by accident a few times and while im crying and hugging him telling him over and over how sorry I am he is laughing so dont feel guilty.
Charlee - Glad ds is feeling better and i really hope he is able to go to Florida it will be so exciting for him!

SleeplessInTheStaceym11House · 09/05/2007 16:10

hi everyone, thanks for your thoughts, my db is ok, coming off the high dependency unit today and should have an operation to put a plate in his arm tomorrow. all been a bit scary for us really. not quite on an even keel yet and ds is such a miserable bugger atm that i dont seem to get anything done!!!!

LeBe · 10/05/2007 10:48

Glad things are looking better for you Stacey and there is defo something in the air! Alfie slept from 9.30pm until 9.30am this morning .
Hope everyone is ok, bit of a prob with ds, he wont eat or drink anything and hasnt for the last 2 days (other than a couple of mouthfuls ive shoved in and a couple of ounces of milk) Have just rang the hv to see what she says but answerphone!

podglet · 10/05/2007 13:47

Wow, check out the good sleepers!

DS slept from 7 - 4.15 but he is really bunged up with a cold, he has a really nasty cough. I think it may be teeth related though as he also has a sore bum and is gnawing everything in sight (more than usual ) I am keeping him dosed up with the magic purple medicine and have bought some bonjela and Karvol capsules for tonight.

Have you seen this thread poor little chap, sounds awful.

Hope everyone is ok, thoughts still with your DB Charlee

Debbsy - if you are back, how was the course and how was DS?

LeBe · 10/05/2007 13:54

Ah that poor boy, I have just added my prayers, it is lovely to see how kind everyone is on MN and how supportive.

Hope your ds feels better soon Podglet, my ds is not himself today either and the docs and hv are no help!!

Charleesunnysunsun · 10/05/2007 18:58

I think i spoke to loud! Harry went from 7.30 until 4.30 but went strieght back to sleep after a quick feed so it wwasn't to bad.
He had his 6 onth check today all is well.
