HAPPY 2007!
Erm, we had a quiet one, thank gawd. I am no good with booze nowadays. Went out every night for 8 nights before Xmas eve and could not handle a single drink by the last two nights.
How are you all feeling as the new year opens up? I quit my job end of the month, and start the next one pretty much straight off. Have house stuff to sort out, I hope we can exchange soon. DP is away a lot this month as well, business trips up north. I wonder how'll well get on, this is new for us.
DaF, how's new motherhood going this time round?

Happy New Year! We're another family who had a quiet new year. DD has more teeth coming through and is getting quite addicted to camomile powder. She staggers around looking thoroughly disolute with white powder all over her face

lulumama · 03/01/2007 10:20

hello all!!

babylulu is a prize diva at the moment..and has learnt to dance...very funny ! she is a source of endless hilarity in our house and has everyone wrapped round her little finger!

happy new year one and all ! x

Belated Christmas greetings to all and CONGRATULATIONS to DAF!!! What an excellent (but rather demanding) Christmas present.

DD2 loved Christmas. She really got the hang of the present opening thing. Her favourite present seems to be her new slippers! She loves shoes, hats and scarfs. Her favourite Christmas pastime has been trying to suck the lights on the tree therefore our tree has only been lit up when she's asleep this year.

She doesn't say much. I think her vocab consists of Cat, Dog, Book, more, got, there, Ma Ma, Da Da and Lola (dd1). Oh, and Good Girl. She likes to praise herself!

Now I'm going to catch up on everyones news.

Bagpuss30 · 03/01/2007 21:12

Happy New Year everyone! Our Christmas was very quiet too. DS2 has some teeth coming through as well, mrsd, and can suck Nurofen out of the syringe without me having to depress it . He was really good with our tree in the end and left it alone mainly but seemed more interested in a large box of clementines in the kitchen and kept going to help himself .

DiamondsAreForever · 07/01/2007 14:00

Happy New year everyone from me and mine too!
Just catching up on stuff as both babies are asleep- oh, scratch that- dd has just woken up and dh has brought her in- she just said 'hello mummy' and then 'dinner, dinner dinner'- having slept right through lunchtime!
and thank the lord- we had five unsupported steps yesterday! I have been really trying to persuade her to walk unaided since ds has come along- it's been quite a challenge to carry one baby and hold hands with dd as she wants to walk all around the house! She has just been spending all her energy on talking it seems- dh now has about 50 words in the Dulcie Dictionary- and we had 'moon' and 'hurt' today as she launched herself off the bed- I asked her if she had hurt herself and she said 'head hurt' and rubbed it, even though she hadn't bumped her head at all. Just an excuse to ask for a biscuit and a cuddle- or 'cuggle' as she likes to say it!
ds is lovely but very demanding- he's not feeding very well and stays awake too long then gets very upset about being up- it's very hard work but they are both so lovely I can forgive them the total lack of sleep I'm experiencing! Oh well- it does get better doesn't it!!!

must go, dd is now demanding cheese and her cuppie. x

Eulalia · 09/01/2007 13:52

Helo DaF you are doing well posting on here. Great to hear you are doing fine with new ds and that dd is walking now. Wow she is speaking well! my ds can only say "no" !

Happy new year to everyone. I have started various resolutions which keep getting broken like not being late and this morning I slept in and had to take ds to school 20 mins late and of course was late getting dd to nursery as well

Never mind I have just bought myself some new clothes as I I have nothing in my wardrobe and I desparately need a haircut. 2007 I must spend more time on msyelf after 7.5 years of children I look a total wreck.

We went to a party on Hogmanay which was brilliant. There were kids there all 2-8 years except ds2 as the youngest and they all looked after him and ds1 and dd had a great time. They had fireworks at midnight and a wee bit of Scottish dancing too

ds2 is teething again and so is ds1 with his adult teeth. ds2 is eating a bit more I'd say but is still tiny, wearing some 9-12 month clothes and he only looks the size of a year old baby and people stop and stare at him running around - he's friendly too so every trip out we always form a small fan club

Must go and put the stove on now - its been wild here with storms but no sign of snow yet...

DiamondsAreForever · 12/01/2007 16:01

Just a quickie- was it you Belo who went to a cranial osteopath in Clerkenwell? I am trying to find the link as ds seems to have developed colic and I am now going to try everything to help the poor little thing out! and get some sleep too...
if you have the link I'd be very grateful!

mrsdarcy · 12/01/2007 19:31

Hi DaF. Was this it ? I remember there being some mention of it on the thread and it rang a bell as I used them for DS1 about 7 years ago. They were lovely and very helpful.

Hope the sleep deprivation isn't getting you down. How is DD with DS?

DD has taken to climbing on the table and dancing .

Belo · 15/01/2007 20:20

Hi DAF, yes it was me and that is the place MrsD. I don't know if they did dd2's colic any good, but the Mummies get treated as well and they made me feel brilliant. I hope they can with ds.

DiamondsAreForever · 16/01/2007 22:22

thanks for that- I'll give it a try. ds has had literally an hours sleep since 8am today and has been crying pretty much non stop apart from feeds- poor little dd is really upset by it all and very clingy. I know one day I'll look back and laugh at how hard it was but it's really trying at the moment! I'm off to my parents on Thursday for a bit of a break so hopefully I can catch up on lost sleep and dd can be spoilt rotten for a few days by 'babar and barbie'- grandpa and grandma!

on another note- I spoke to a few mums today about putting names down for nurseries- apparently I should start thinking about it now around here! blimey!

mrsdarcy · 17/01/2007 11:38

Oh, poor you, DaF. Are you bfeeding DS or bottles - do you get any help at night?

Hopefully you'll laugh about it one day! Do you have prickly skin exhaustion?

mrsdarcy · 18/01/2007 18:20

DD has the most frightful haircut. She has been scalped at the back and looks as though a malicious nit nurse tried to get her, but was thwarted after the first few clips . Her hair was a mess and did need tidying up, especially as she just don't keep a clip in, but far too much has been taken off and it will takes months to grow out.

At first I thought she looked like a Mabel Lucy Atwell girl (fringe, short bob) but when I saw the back....yuk.

And I can't even rant about it apart from on here as it was done by a friend!

She tends to throw hats away but maybe I'll be able to persuade her to keep them on whilst it looks so bad. Hmmm...Brora have cashmere baraclavas in the sale...

Bagpuss30 · 19/01/2007 08:21

Hi everyone. Don't worry about the hair mrsd. ds2 had a bad cut a few weeks ago and I was mortified when I saw the result but 2 weeks on and it looks ok now although is far too long at the back again and needs a trim again!

Daf, I hope you are getting a well earned break now and that ds and dd are enjoying their grandparents company .

Well, not much news here. ds2's latest obsession is duplo and in particular bob the builder lego that belonged to his brother, which is good as it affords me a little peace each day as he plays happily with it on his own .

Eulalia · 23/01/2007 14:39

I think ds may be trying to talk at last. He says "hiya" now and "no" rather a lot but that's it. He tried haggis at a burns supper at the weekend and loved it!

Am chuffed as ds1 has taught himself to swim! Not sure if he needs lessons to learn the actual strokes - any thoughts?

Got a little bit of snow just now but not really enough to play in.

ds has just fallen asleep so off to put him to bed and let dd back on the computer.

mrsdarcy · 24/01/2007 09:53

DD tried some haggis as well, Eulalia, and she liked it too .

Would your DS1 enjoy swimming lessons? If he would, I'd go for it. If not, I'd keep him swimming the way he'd enjoying it.

DD's hair looks nice from the front but too short from the back. She's had lots of compliments though so I'm happier about it

DiamondsAreForever · 24/01/2007 20:18

Hope you are recovering from the haircut trauma MrsD- I am so scared that dd will be butchered at the hairdresser that I have trimmed her hair myself, how very Good Life! I don't think I have done a bad job though, dd's hair has gone all bouncy and curly and she looks like a little cherub, rather than the scruff bag that she was starting to look like with hair all different lengths!

My weekend away was a bit of a disaster- it took us 11 hours to get home in the storms on Thursday (allow me to wallow in my post traumatic stress for a while...) a journey that should take 3 hours tops and with two babies as well!... I took a meal for dd to eat just in case- she ate that after 4 hours then we were just stuck on the motorway. The poor little thing ended up eating a banana and three gingerbread men for her dinner then after much complaining had no option but to give up and fall asleep. what a nightmare!
ds is still very unsettled so I really didn't catch up on the lost sleep but did eat some home cooked food rather than the diet of toast that I've been living on!
I'm taking him to the osteopath on Friday so hopefully that will help.

On another note- is anyone potty training yet? dd understands the basic concepts but I am letting her go at her own pace, especially with the new arrival.

mrsdarcy · 24/01/2007 22:01

I'm not expecting anything from DD at this stage with potty training, as the boys didn't potty train until well after they were 3. I can't see the point in pushing it - they'll do it when they're ready. It's a real pain when you're out and they decide they are desperate for the loo.

However, DD tells me when she's done a poo and quite often recently she has asked for a clean nappy after a wee. She had a spell of climbing on the loo but that seems to have stopped since she fell in .

I'm amazed as the boys were really hopeless at it. DS2 still regularly has horrific skiddies (sorry if tmi!) - I throw his undies away quite often. And DS1 has stopped wetting the bed but occasionally he gets up in the night for the loo but is half asleep and goes to the wrong room. We have caught him lifting up my mouse mat as though it was the loo seat, about to pee on my computer; he has peed in DH's open sock drawer and last night peed all over some papers that I needed to shred

Really sorry about your journey, DaF, and that you are still getting no sleep.

Eulalia · 25/01/2007 11:43

Good luck with the osteopath DaF - hope your ds settles down soon.

at your ds's Mrs D! You may find your dd is faster, girls generally are. My dd just ripped off her nappies when she turned 2 and was trained about 3 months after that. However now at 4 3/4 she still wears pull-ups at night, concentrating on getting ds1 dry at night at the moment though as even the largest nappy just isn't 'man' enough for him.

Well I feel like I losing a constant battle with keeping this house tidy, today am faced with living room floor covered in dd's beads and thready things (ds2 is the only one who seems to tidy (he's been picking up the beads and NOT eating them), bits of paper from the printer, ds1's cars, videos, crayons, a few baby toys and lots of dust from the stove....

hub2dee · 31/01/2007 22:12

hey chums, glad to hear all the los are doing well. LOL @falling in the bog, mrsd, and sorry for the lawnmower attack; cashmere may well be needed - possibly for mum too.

dd took her fist few steps two days ago ! Yippee ! She has masses of hair and is still well-natured. Eats well, loves books and DVDs. Usually wakes up in the night, cries out and is brought to our bed. Some nights (1 in 3 maybe ?) she sleeps through, but more often that not she makes it to the parental chambers before dawn.

Bagpuss30 · 01/02/2007 10:08

Morning all! ds2 is just emptying the kitchen cupboards while I have some mn time .

Hub, nice to hear from you - well done to dd for those first steps too .

ds2's walking is coming on well too - he managed to walk all the way to school the other day . Silly me didn't take the pushchair though and so I had to carry him most of the way back, once we had examined every leaf, tree, blade of grass etc (you get the picture, lol).

Potty training . Well, I shouldn't think it will happen here for a while but if it does, what on earth am I going to do with all of ds2's lovely cloth nappies (and yes, I realise I am sounding like a mad woman...)

OMG, ds2 has now covered the kitchen floor with cheerios , best go and tidy it up! That will teach me....

mrsdarcy · 05/02/2007 16:47

DD did a poo in the potty at the childminder's today . I'm planning on treating it as a one-off - I don't really go in for a house covered in poo and wee and would rather hold on until she is definitely ready! She has had a lovely day and is now screaming inconsolably, which I suspect is how she will remain until bedtime.

Great about DD's steps, Hub . I bet she'll soon be running all over the place.

hub2dee · 06/02/2007 07:26

dd is the flower girl at a wedding in a few weeks. Dress just came through. OTT but cute LOL .

Latest album of dd are off this thread .

Eulalia · 09/02/2007 10:45

Congrats on the poo Mrs D ...

hub - the dress is perfect. Your photos of dd are gorgeous as usual, she is absolutely scrummy. I love the pic of your girls on the stairs. Reminds me of one photo I took of ds1 out of the upstairs window looking down at him looking up at me. I like unusual angles.

Got ds2 one of these Dr Brown Trainer Cup to encourage him to drink more and so he doesn't rely on me to keep him hydrated (and to stop me looking like a wrinked prune). Its a bit like a bottle but he just 'waters' his highchair with normal beakers. Seems to like it alhtough dd does too (who is going through a baby phase) at the moment and likes pretending to drink bottles, heaven knows why as she never had one as a baby.

mrsdarcy · 22/02/2007 20:05

Gosh, we're quiet aren't we?

Love the photos Hub

It was my birthday last week - 36 and feeling very elderly, with eggs like marrowfat peas . DH and I say to each other "no more babies for us" in a Protest Too Much sort of way, although this time we need to be able to kid ourselves that it's an "accident" rather than plan for it, iyswim

DD is getting so grown-up. She is being very giggly and mischievous atm. She grabs things she isn't supposed to have, and races out of the room, giggling. I can't remember if I mentioned that she had lost her powers of swimming and now sinks like a stone . She still enjoys it though.

Hello, lovely to read all your news and events. I have no intention of thinking about potty training until ds has a couple hundred words more in his vocab, it is summer and he has settled in the new house (next month or early april, depending on what work we decide to get done first).

I'm a changed woman, Destressed - no more heavy duty job. Losing weight a bit now I have time to cook and eat normal food. Started work for other half's company. Blimey it is interesting.
ds is sick as a parrot and we're housebound but he is so chatty and i can understand half of it. it's cool. will try and get back sooner. just have my own machine back this week!
