HAPPY 2007!
Erm, we had a quiet one, thank gawd. I am no good with booze nowadays. Went out every night for 8 nights before Xmas eve and could not handle a single drink by the last two nights.
How are you all feeling as the new year opens up? I quit my job end of the month, and start the next one pretty much straight off. Have house stuff to sort out, I hope we can exchange soon. DP is away a lot this month as well, business trips up north. I wonder how'll well get on, this is new for us.
DaF, how's new motherhood going this time round?

fabulous news mrsd, many congratulations . and how are things with you mb, you must be getting bumptastic!

dd is fine. a minx, as ever. she wants a pink motorbike for christmas, & to go to ballerina school .

VoodooLULUmama · 31/10/2007 20:28

hello all

has been a long time since i posted on here.. hope you are all ok

now, DD is not really talking..

so can you tell me if your 2.3 year olds are talking in sentences etc?

she has a couple of sentences

'where are you?'

'i do it!"

but she says them with the same inflection each time, like she has learnt it off by heart and she is remembering it, rather than saying it , IFYSWIM

talks mostly in single words, and still a lot of her own language

she has been referred to SALT< but might not be seen until end of the year, been waitin gsince August

TIA

bagpuss · 31/10/2007 22:39

Hi Lulu .

ds2 can say quite a few things now but I wouldn't say his language is on a par with his older siblings or anything. We do have three word sentences mainly and he rarely struggles to make himself understood . I think all children vary so much at this age though and it is really difficult to compare them.

ds2 has pretty much mastered potty training now . I'm rather glad as it isn't my favorite bit of the whole baby and toddler experience .

Well, the whole of MN seems to be pg at the moment - it is making me exceptionally broody I must say . MB how is the bump coming on?

Hoxtonchick, LOL at pink motorbike and ballerina school.

Lulumama · 01/11/2007 09:22

thanks bagpuss

we are doing potty training, in as much as i have decided she can train herself, if she asks for the toilet i take her, and before her bath and getting dressed she plonks herself on the loo....

have emailed local childrens' centre re a course my HV recommended..

hoxtonchick · 01/11/2007 20:41

dd really wants to wear big girl knickers but i am being a lazy mare . she often runs around at home with no nappy & tells us when she needs a wee. she won't go on the potty though, has to be lifted onto the loo...

mrsdarcy · 05/11/2007 12:14

Thanks for the congrats . I'm very excited but at the same time trying not to be! I'm 9 weeks today and had a scan last week and am still feeling sick, so all positive signs.

Lulumama - DD is talking in full sentences but she is nowhere near potty-trained. I agree with Bagpuss that there are such wide variations at this stage that it's difficult to form a view. IME a lot of children who seem to do something quite late, do it really well, really quickly. So maybe she'll just start talking one day in great big sentences!

I think you're doing the right thing with the SALT referral - given how long it takes to get an appointment.

HC - I'm the same about potty training. I hate it and am crap at it (apt adjective!). DD seemed ready for it about 6 months ago but since then nothing. Occasionally she sits on the loo or potty but gets off so she can poo/wee on the floor. In fact she poos all over the house far more than the boys did and I chase her playing Hunt The Poo.

When she wakes up in the morning she chats away to herself, giggling. She practices telling tales on her brothers - "[DS2] pushed my toy" [giggle]. "[DS1] is a lala [liar]" [giggle]."Daddy is a piggy" - she got that one from me and I have made things worse so she now says "Daddy is not a piggy"

Think I was a bit overambitious with my brackets there wasn't I!

Eulalia · 06/11/2007 10:30

Hi Lulu, very little talking from ds2, no sentences, lots of gesticulating though and babbling. I wouldn't worry though. ds1 (if you rem has autism) didn't start talking till he was 3, had some SALT and just gradually caught up. He was certainly OK for school.

Despite his lack of talking ds2 is the most 'savvy' of my kids. He is such a people orientated child. he loves animals too and is very gentle with them.

Am feeling quite tired as had loads of Halloween, bonfire parties this year. Went to a fantastic party on Saturday, wee croft house near the sea, beautiful clear night so you could see the stars and lovely open fire, lots of wine and food and plenty kids who didn't seem to mind stumbling about in the dark. Even ds2 pottered about. He is still tiny and everyone wanted to take him home with them.

Mrs D - good news on the scan.

ds2 is still in the early stages of toilet training too. he prefers the toilet - we need to get the seat adaptor sorted otherwise he will fall in!

hoxtonchick · 06/11/2007 10:35

oooh, 9 weeks . so the new baby will be born a little bit before dd is 3 then mrsd? it was just this time 3 years ago i found out i was pg. seems a looooooooong time ago....

mrsdarcy · 06/11/2007 10:58

Yes, early June, hopefully. I had a bit of bleeding last night so am staying at home today and trying to persuade DD to be tranquil.

Whenever you post about where you live, Eulalia, it sounds so lovely.

We didn't do much for bonfire night but had a big Hallowe'en and my spooky jelly was triumphant!

hoxtonchick · 06/11/2007 12:29

oh i have everything crossed for you. i remember being pg with dd & having to wear a 24 hour blood pressure monitor. poor ds had a very quiet time indeed that day...

bagpuss · 06/11/2007 19:07

I hope everything is ok mrsd. 2 yrs and 11 months is the gap I have between dd and ds2 and it works very well on the whole .

We had a small halloween celebration too and ds2 dressed up as a big hairy spider .

mrsdarcy · 06/11/2007 20:40

That's nice to hear about the age gap, Bagpuss. The boys are 17 months apart and DS2 was 4 when DD was born, so if things work out with this one it will be a whole new age gap for us. We have already accepted that DD will not take kindly to any interloper

We missed swimming as I wanted to have a quiet day. Waterbabies is great but SO expensive that it really hurt to miss it. I actually had to give myself a serious talking-to along the lines of "precious scrap of human life v £10"!

DD was lovely all day, we had a really nice time together and both went to get the boys feeling content and rested. No more bleeding today, thank goodness.

mrsdarcy · 21/11/2007 09:48

I have some lovely news. DD had her annual appointment with the neurologist on Monday, and he has discharged her

So pleased

DiamondsAreForever · 21/11/2007 13:31

Hello everyone!
Congratulations MrsD- I've only just caught up with your news! that's really lovely to hear! and good news about dd too.

I hope everyone is well. We are all fine down here- apart from a few trips to A&E recently, first dd cut her head open as she fell over- she's got a bit of a pink scar above her evyebrow but that should hopefully fade in time. and our little bruiser ds has got recurring broncilitis so has had to get rushed to the nebuliser on a few occasions recently. I am still hopeful that neither of them will develop asthma like me though.

I am busy at work- I asked for a pay rise (and more responsibility of course!) and have been given the responsibilities but no pay rise as yet so I am sitting here with gritted teeth most of the time!

However, Christmas is coming and I'm really looking forward to it this year. DS will be 1 (how time flies!) on 21st Dec so it's party time for a week and a half! He is crawling like a pro and is very close to walking already- so much faster than dd! However, all he seems interested in is plugs, leads, cupboards and drawers so everything is being baby proofed at the moment- we were so lucky with dd in that she was actually interested in all the expensive toys she has, unlike our boy!
So lovely dh, who has been a SAHD now for 6 months, has all the fun while I am stuck at work. Oh well!

anyway, hope to catch up with you all again soon, lots of love xx

lulumama · 21/11/2007 13:32

that is great MrsDarcy, really pleased

thanks everyone for your comments re DD.. I have decided to take her to docs and ask for a private referral as i am just angsting about this all the time.

hope everyone else is fine x

bagpuss · 21/11/2007 20:34

Excellent news mrsd .

Daf! I was just thinking about you the other day (remembering that your ds is nearly 1) and wondering how you all were. Sorry to hear about the trips to A&E and I hope they are now less frequent.

Lulu, good luck with the referral .

Well, all OK here but ds2 is driving me mental! He had the most absurd screaming and shouting tantrum when we went to the supermarket earlier (you know, the sort where they really embarrass you) and seems to be married to the DVD player and is happy enough watching anything on that. He had an upset tummy yesterday and so I wonder if he is really ill and just wants to be at home, oh, he is also waking us at 5.30 am without fail .

hoxtonchick · 22/11/2007 16:05

great news mrsd. nice to 'see' you daf, sounds like things are busy. dd has a scar on her forehead too ....

today we are mostly putting socks on!

Rolf · 18/12/2007 18:45

Hello everyone . It's MrsDarcy. I changed my name to Rolf after singing loudly to Two Little Boys but I've been using Rolf on a couple of other threads and feel all split-personality. Eloquent and graceful or professional embarassing Dad?

I finally booked in at the hospital today and saw a lovely scan picture of the baby. I'm 15 weeks so it was a lovely picture. I saw my v nice consultant too. She is so lovely. She said that she was guessing I didn't want lots of extra scans this time. And she was so accommodating about the GBS thing. She said she'd be happy for me to deliver in the midwife-led unit, in water if I want, even if I have IV antibiotics. And she's going to speak to a colleague who has looked after a few homebirthers with GBS.

So all very exciting. We're going to tell the children as soon as DH gets home.

When the lollipop lady helps us cross the road in the morning, DD says "thank you lollipop".

Hope you are all well.

x

Eulalia · 23/12/2007 11:23

Hello Rolf! Good to hear all is well with baby.

How is everyone this Christmas time?

We decided to get a real 6ft tree this year and all the presents under are covered in a fine layer of needles as is the floor in the dining room. It looks wonderful though.

ds2 is talking a bit more at last - mostly still single words. Not too concered as dd still makes mistakes - she calls the computer the 'omputer'. ds2 can say her name but not ds1's as it is rather long. when dd appeared as the angel in the school production ds2 starts shouting her name out very loudly! ds1 is to stay at the school (so nice to have them together) we were considering moving him but he is to get more support. the head teacher who also teaches him had a real panic last month when they lost him. spend half an hour searching the buidling and grounds and about to phone the police when he was discovered hiding in the compost bin!

I made Christmas cards this year - my own photo sent to developers of ds2 in Santa outfit smiling obligingly. He is always smiling and is a little dear.

I'd better get on, got some presents to deliver round the village1. Going out to friends for a meal later - no cooking how wonderful.

Hope you all have a restful and merry Christmas

bahumbugpuss · 23/12/2007 13:05

Hello Eulalia and Rolf. Glad you are both well.

I have an embarrassing Christmas school play story. When ds1 appeared on stage ds2 started shouting at the top of his voice "herro ds1, mummy its ds1. Herro ds1 I seeeeee youuuu!!!!" I had to take him to the back of the hall and give him a bit of a talking to about staying quiet and whispering . All the other parents seemed to find it very funny though.

We have a real tree too Eulalia. DS2 very kindly rearranged the lights on it yesterday and the floor was a sea of green needles too.

Well, this is just going to be a short post as we are just sorting out the final few bits for christmas day before we relax. I hope you all have a very merry christmas and a very happy and peaceful 2008 .

DiamondsAreForever · 02/01/2008 16:25

just a quickie to wish you all a very happy new year- shall we have a new thread to celebrate as all our babies are way past two now!
Hope you've all eaten your body weight in turkey, mince pies, puddings (or is that just me....?!) and hello again to Rolf- now you have no excuse not to gorge yourself on fabulous foods! Pregnancy does have its upsides- although I am still NEVER going to do it again!!!
catch up soon x

DiamondsAreForever · 02/01/2008 16:29
