HAPPY 2007!
Erm, we had a quiet one, thank gawd. I am no good with booze nowadays. Went out every night for 8 nights before Xmas eve and could not handle a single drink by the last two nights.
How are you all feeling as the new year opens up? I quit my job end of the month, and start the next one pretty much straight off. Have house stuff to sort out, I hope we can exchange soon. DP is away a lot this month as well, business trips up north. I wonder how'll well get on, this is new for us.
DaF, how's new motherhood going this time round?

Happy Birthday Florence! I hope you all have a lovely day today Hoxtonchick .

hoxtonchick · 29/06/2007 10:08

oh thank you!

she was so excited about opening her presents this morning (enthusiastically helped by ds ), & has been carrying around the small plastic ponies ever since (they are dreadful, but i knew she'd love them ).

am reasonably calm on the party front.... cake is made & iced. heavy rain earlier, but ok now. we're going to meet friends for lunch at the city farm then party after school.

mrsdarcy · 29/06/2007 10:58

Happy Birthday Florence . I so love her name. I know I always say that but it really is such a pretty name.

It makes for very nostalgic reading, the ante-natal thread .

Today DD is wearing boys' PJs for a 4 year old, so they are falling off her. She rubbed vaseline all over her face and hair so she is rather greasy. And she is topping it off with a rather horrible plastic hair band which she insists on putting on all by herself so it gives a John McEnroe effect

hoxtonchick · 29/06/2007 11:58

your dd has a lovely name too mrsd .

dd has found the chocolate fingers for the party . sending my mum out for replacements.....

Dragonhart · 29/06/2007 14:24

We had dd2's christening on sun, so just about recovered now! All went well but the weather was pretty poor. Bought 2 gazebos so everyone huddled under those or squeesed into our house! DS ate sooooo much and then begged more pudding from everyone when we were not looking! We had to go around and tell everyone not to feed him!

Going out for a chinese meal tonight with dsis, BIL, dbrother and my dad (down for the week from Inverness). Really looking forward to it and just realised it is the first time we have gone out for a meal since dd2 was born in Jan!! Makes me feel very boring!

Merryberry- Congratulations! How exciting. Hope you are not feeling too sick or tired!

Lulumama- Gorgeous dress. I was trying to get a dress for dd2 for a wedding we are going to but couldnt find one I liked. Then someone gave her a gorgeous one for her Christening so problem solved!

Hoxtonchick- Hope you have better weather than we did last weekend! Fingers crossed for you. Happy birthday to lo!

hub2dee, DS uses a sheet and duvet because he gets hot earlier on and then we pull the duvet up when we go to bed. He insists on having a donkey by his right ear and a rabbit tucked into his neck so it is like having a hat and scarf on! He is in a bed now as I wanted to get him out of the cot before we had dd2 so he didnt feel pushed out of it iyswim.

I limit most food for my ds as he is a bottomless pit! Sometimes he eats more than me and I eat a lot! His fav at the moment is 'bawbrees'!

hoxtonchick · 29/06/2007 20:15

we had such a nice party. several participants came down with chickenpox on the way round , so we ended up with 6 mini guests, my 2, & a whole gang of mummies & daddies. the rain held off, the grownups caned the fizzy wine & much fun was had by all. will post a pic of dd blowing her candles out in my profile.

hope you've all had nice days too. whose birthday is next?

merryberry · 30/06/2007 08:15

Happy birthday Florence Lord you were so lucky with the weather, good stuff.

We had our garden de-rubbled yesterday so can now have other kids round with less threat to their lives and limbs. DS's b'day is next saturday. friends and fmaily that day, couple of little mates on the saturday. Much smaller than last year, as he is not comfortable with too many other toddlers around him yet.

He and his dad are off for the day to grandparents in chesham. I am getting stuff done (tm) at normal adult speed and happy to have noone underfoot for a change. Have done loads already. Off to liberty to order a posh curtain for sitting room. sale + loyalty card discount makes it affordable.
Then to buy more clothes for the boy, he has suddenly outgrown most of last lot. Lunch out. No washing up, the greatest joy of all!

Bit of morning sickness, no real tiredness. Magic. Thank you for your kind thoughts. Have a good weekend!

PS I am contemplating weds am at the zoo again, weather willing.

so what did you get???

merryberry · 30/06/2007 21:43

sweet FA. the estimate grew into a mad quote as i needed a whole extra drop. back to square one.

on the upside i found crockery in skandium, clothes for ds in selfridges and gazed in admiration and that was all at the amazing women's clothes for sale all over the place. need a posh frock for an august wedding. no idea what size i will be, so didn't get ttempted.

party number 2 done & dusted. "i like my happy birthday" says dd . and my sil announced she is pg, due next march so we're all very happy.

bagpuss · 02/07/2007 08:34

Well done hc, you deserve a medal. ds2's birthday on Wednesday and I need to sort out making and decorating the cake and wrapping some presents. I think it will be fairly low key other than that as it is mid week. DH is taking the day off work though so we will go somewhere nice for lunch .

Eulalia · 02/07/2007 21:32

dh absolutely loves In the Night Garden. although have to admit I like it too. we were watching it this evening and the kids weren't interested and we were telling them to be quiet so we could hear it

have to go dd and ds1 have just come downstairs from their room. back later to catch up.

merryberry · 03/07/2007 08:42

smiling at the night garden. same in our house. we occassionally force ds to not watch pocoyo so we can get our night garden fix

We did dd's on Sunday, though her birthday is not till Friday.

Intermittent deluges scuppered plans for larvely garden party. Instead we had to text mates asking for only one parent (dw had, in her infinte wisdom invited about 15 children), I had to remove door from living room, disassemble the dining table, wheel the large and heavy TV into the washing machine space, stack dd's high chair on it, then the coats from the hall, then the breakfast bar stools etc. etc. It was hellish.

Balloons stuck tastefully on ceiling, a 'Happy 2nd Birthday' banner, one playdough table, one drawing table, my mate Eddie Guitar came and did 20 minutes of songs and, voila, good fun was had by all.

Cake was square of v. v. big strawberries surrounding M&S chocolate mini-bites with some more strawberries on top. Went down well.

I think a hall / another 'place' might be sensible next time if numbers are high.

The weather in this country makes me want to vomit angrily.

We were in and out several times today (with weirdo Baby Born in weirdo buggy which I SWORE I'd never do) and each time got pissed on from a great height and legged it home. This is no way to live I'm tellin' ya lol.

Eulalia · 04/07/2007 13:54

Happy ?th Birthday Bagpuss and 2nd Birthday George

Sorry to hear your party was a bit of a washout hub but sounds like the improvisations went well.

We're off in the very, very early hours of Friday, got 459 miles to drive to Leicestershire so won't be on again for over a week. Have been trying to take it easy with a viral type headache thing and conjuctivitis. I don't know how I staggered out of bed yesterday to get ds ready for school. Feeling better today and been shopping for supplies for the barge, wine box and other essentials. Also got toy lanterns for ds1 and dd which should look nice in the balmy (dry!) evenings... yes it won't rain!

OK have checked the stats so will give my birthday greetings to those coming up in advance, apologies for any mistakes...

Happy Birthday Camille on Friday, hope the sun shines for you.

Happy Birthday Vin on Saturday.

Happy Birthday Harriet on the 15th.

bagpuss · 05/07/2007 10:04

Thanks Eulalia . We had a lovely day and ds2 is now the proud owner of a huge amount of Thomas the Tank Engine duplo which I'm not allowed to tidy away ever .

I hope your holiday is lovely and you all come back refreshed and relaxed.

Hub, your party sounds fun. What a good idea for a cake too. I have put a picture of ds2's cake on my profile. It took me most of Tuesday to make and ds2 loved it (not that we watch too much cbeebies, oh nooo ).

hub2dee · 05/07/2007 11:11

A veritable masterpiece of emotive patisserie executed with finesse.

merryberry · 05/07/2007 14:21

that's a lovely cake! feel very inadequate, am planning to buy a sainsbury one tomorrow for ds. on the grounds he is so easily please...penguin, elephant, anything off cbeebies, balloons, flowers, boats ANYTHING will do him fine. my excuse is i am reserving my strength for the serious cakes of older years. when you have to get things just so....

cough.
