HAPPY 2007!
Erm, we had a quiet one, thank gawd. I am no good with booze nowadays. Went out every night for 8 nights before Xmas eve and could not handle a single drink by the last two nights.
How are you all feeling as the new year opens up? I quit my job end of the month, and start the next one pretty much straight off. Have house stuff to sort out, I hope we can exchange soon. DP is away a lot this month as well, business trips up north. I wonder how'll well get on, this is new for us.
DaF, how's new motherhood going this time round?

hello all !!

the last two years has gone rather quickly, no?

DD is a feisty minx still, and a delight..very funny..does little dances on command and funny faces

says quite a few words finally...and understands everything

hope everyone is well

bagpuss · 06/06/2007 16:49

Oooh, Hello! C'mon ladies let's get this thread active again

Lulu, ds2 loves to dance and has been practising spinning around and hoiking his trousers up to his thighs and stomping . 'tis very funny indeed.

lulumama · 06/06/2007 17:15

yes..DD has discovered stomping..and running around, suddenly stopping and attempting a head stand!

Dragonhart · 06/06/2007 23:22

DS1's favourite thing at the moment is running around the garden chasing pretend birds! He looks crazy. He will also dance like mad to a really awful euro-popy tune on my brother's phone! Oh and decorating his bedroom with a toilet roll I left in there by mistake and when I come in saying 'a mess!'

I am finding it really amazing how their language is improving as well. Seems every day it is getting better and more 'words' are coming (I say words but not sure a stranger would understand them but I do iykwim).

mrsdarcy · 07/06/2007 19:43

Hello everyone and welcome Dragonheart . How lovely to see the thread busy again. How are your boys now, Bagpuss? I'm sorry you have this worry about DS1. Eulalia - glad you got the result you wanted! It was all very exciting for a little while anyway!

Well, we had a lovely holiday down in Kent (where we used to live) and then a few days with friends in London (where we also used to live) and felt very nostalgic for both, in a nice way.

I saw someone I used to see at baby groups, whose 2 children are now the same age as my boys (7 and 6) and it brought home to me how having another baby plunges you back into the Land of Chaos and Baggage! Her family were sitting nicely together in the restaurant, whereas I was staggering out with pushchair and cavorting toddler!

I love it but sometimes feel rather too old to be doing it all again. For me anyway it's all part of the dithering about whether to try for another child or not. It sounds as though I am not the only one here being rather negligent about contraception and allowing "accidents" to happen rather than actually making decisions about it!

I got a lovely letter last week from my obs consultant. I haven't seen her since DD was born but somehow she knew I'd had a m/c and wrote to me saying she was sorry and I was welcome to discuss it with her. How nice is that?

Eulalia · 11/06/2007 23:40

Hi Mrs D - your holiday sounds relaxing. Good grief you are not old I am glad not to have had my summer spoiled by feeling tired and nauseous and avoiding alcohol. Got a prescription for the mini-pill, can't take the normal one as I am still b/feeding. Just wating for my period so I can start it.

dd and ds1 are going through a phase of mooning at each other and generally talking about bottoms and all things lavatorial. Very tiresome. Had a job getting them to bed tongiht. The light nights don't help. Being so far north its still broad daylight at 10pm.

Still undecided about what to do for ds2's birthday. Got ds1's to think about before that as well. Its such a difficult time of year right in the middle of the school hols. He has so few friends and most people are often away.

Hello my loves. I only have one thing to say:

Mama, zoo.

Dadda took her to the zoo the day before yesterday, mb.

Am member at London zoo if you ever want company there. Also gets me free car parking if that helps.

We go about once a week as well h2d. Will txt you before each trip and I'm sure we'll manage it together. We usually start at 1000, have a huge soporific lunch by noon and I try to get him to sleep on way home on bus about 1300.

Our main aim at present is to see how many animals have a poo, secondary aim is to play with the ride on toys (not put money in them though as this is clearly a Very Scary Thing).

DD has mastered

'mummmeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee'

repeat ad infinitum

can say more words, and likes hanging upside down off monkey bars, tables, chairs or anything in fact !

mrsdarcy · 15/06/2007 13:49

We went to a Christening last weekend. I had DD wearing her party dress which she then accessorised with a woolly hat and red wellies, and rubbed some jam into her hair.

I saw, years ago, a fabulous production of A Midsummer Night's Dream in which the fairies wore scruffy tutus and DM boots, and DD reminded me of one of them. I LOVE little girls like that

Nice to see you, MB, Hub and Lulu

mrsdarcy · 15/06/2007 21:23

I got a phone call from DD's childminder this afternoon to tell me that one of her other mindees has chickenpox. A few hours later DD developed a temperature and little red dots on her torso .

She's in bed now, sleeping really feverishly the poor mite. I'm assuming it's chickenpox - very grateful to the childminder for warning me as at least I know now, before the blisters develop.

Poor thing. It's so awful to see them ill isn't it?

bagpuss · 15/06/2007 21:25

Hello everyone .

ds2 is on the mend now, except for one nasty spot on his forehead which is quite bad and will probably scar .

ds2 also loves to attract my attention all day long by repeating "mum, mum, muuuum,". It is pretty much the first thing I hear in the morning and the last thing I hear at night.

mrsd, lol at woolly hat, wellies and jam .

bagpuss · 15/06/2007 21:27

omg mrsd, huge sympathies . Make sure you have lots of Piriton in and also some bicarb of soda for the bath too. I hope dd is better again soon.

mrsdarcy · 16/06/2007 09:40

Thanks Bagpuss. She slept with me last night and was very feverish all night and is still hot this morning, but the spots haven't developed. So I don't know if it's chicken pox or some other virus. Any ideas?

bagpuss · 16/06/2007 10:59

Have you any idea how long is has been since she was exposed to the virus? It took approx 14 days between dd's spots arriving and the dses spots, but two days before they usually get the fever and flu symptoms. Looking back ds2 was very clingy and he is so different now he is better. Also ds2 had about 4 spots in his nappy area for a good few days before all the others appeared - if I hadn't seen them and been expecting it anyway, I wouldn't have known it was chicken pox tbh.

Having said that, I have also had a flu and summer cold type thing very recently - there is a lot of it going about atm which makes it very difficult to diagnose.

I really hope if it does turn out to be chicken pox that your dd has, that it is very mild like my dd's was - I had no worries about her .

mrsdarcy · 16/06/2007 15:29

She was exposed to the virus on Monday. She started running a temperature yesterday, which has continued today. She also has, since yesterday, small red spots on her chest and back. They are slightly more noticeable today but they don't look like chicken-pox blisters. I don't know if it's a mild dose of chicken pox, chicken pox in its early stages, or something else altogether!

Your poor DS2. My DSs had it one after the other. DS2 wasn't too bad but poor DS1 had a horrible time with it - in mouth, up his bottom. Although oddly it is DS2 who has a few scars, not DS1.

bagpuss · 16/06/2007 18:50

I would say it is too early personally, but when I took the dses to the doctors she said that ds2 might only have had a mild dose (she didn't say this the second time they saw him!) and that he could catch it properly once he was over two.

mrsdarcy · 17/06/2007 08:42

Well, after being very sorry for herself yesterday she perked up in the evening, slept v well and now seems fine - no spots or temperature! One of my main considerations has been wanting her to be well enough to go to the childminder tomorrow! Without those few hours to myself I really feel as though I am going mad!

bagpuss · 17/06/2007 09:21

good, good! Enjoy your time off tomorrow, mrsd .

Eulalia · 18/06/2007 11:25

Sorry to hear your dd has been ill Mrs D - hope she's back in her dress and wellies again soon

Good to hear the Bagpusses are on the mend too.

ds2 is tentatively trying to talk - he definately says Daddy now, sometimes it sounds more like Addy.

Dragonhart · 19/06/2007 22:33

MrsDarcy and Bagpuss- Dreading chickenpox! Lots of children have it round here and not sure if I want DS1 to get it or not, dont really want dd2 to get it as she is only 5 months. Hope you are all on the mend now.

I am quite worried about how little time ds1 spends in other children's company. I stay at home with him and go to a toddler group on a monday and a sign language class on a Friday but most of the time he is just with me and his little sister.

Whenever we see any children, he gets all excited and wants to play with them. We went to the library last week and he wanted to play with an older girl (about school age) and she told him to go away . Just wondered what your los do with other children?

Eulalia · 20/06/2007 09:42

I'd not worry Dragonhart there's plenty of time for him to socialise and you are already taking him to two activities a week, plenty for his age. Kids don't really get sociable till they are around 3 although they do vary. My youngest seems to love people too. I will take him to a group when he is 2.5 and then playgroup after that.

What about a creche? Would your ds like that?

merryberry · 22/06/2007 08:36

my ds has always been a bit withdrawn with other kids. we go out to a fair number of groups to help him get used to it.

and he does need to get used to it, i've just had a bfp with due date 1/3/8. So very early days, but I feel so rankly pregnant (nausea, heartburn for a few days already) i can't be arsed to pretend i'm not pg this time. wish me luck - my mc and anomaly risks are good and high.

toddling off to get urgent review of thyroid neds now.

good luck with the cp if that's what it is MrsD.

congratulations mb!

hello all, i haven't posted on this thread for aaaaaaaages. lovely to hear what all the july o5 babies are up to.

dd is 2 next week . she is very excited about the prospect, keeps demanding presents & cake & singing happy birthday to herself.... we are having a few friends over on her birthday itself & then a family party over the weekend.

she is talking so much now (ds said, slightly shocked the other day "mum, she's talking in sentences now!"), & likes to shout out hello to strangers we walk past. she can count to 10 & recognise quite a lot of colours. loves swimming & visits to the farm & charging around the park. we went on holiday a couple of weeks ago & she loved the plane journey. and having her own suitcase! she & ds have a great relationship, lots of cuddling & chasing. she does wind him up too, but he is terribly patient.

not too much else to report. definitely no more babies here . dd would make a dreadful middle child! dp was saying this morning how his sister (middle) started tantrumming when their younger brother was born & hasn't really stopped since.....
