Our first thread on the 'other side'. And may all our soon to be mummies join us in this adventure through the early days of parenthood as we continue to share exciting times.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Memphisbelly · 24/03/2015 22:05

Had a pretty awful day, LO has been very fussy I am thinking it is becuase of his injections yesterday, he has been very pale. Finally settled enough for me to put him down but he is restless.

Been on phone to dh wanting him home, ds1 is being amazing and even held him so he wouldn't cry while I made a bottle and went to the toilet. My mum is an amazing support and would have come over tonight normally but she has a bug.

Normally I would cope better but dh has gone away with work unexpectedly so its knocked me.... i am also low on food and nappies....with a child with loose bowels thats not a good combination

freneticfox · 25/03/2015 06:38

Hugs for you Memphis, I hope today is better.

Awful night here. Six week check up tomorrow, planning on asking if it's normal that LO is grunting and straining so much. It's constant.

JacktheLab · 25/03/2015 06:55

Memphis, hope Donovan feels better soon, I'm sure it's his injections which are making him fussy, so fingers crossed he settles for you. Have you tried an online supermarket shop and delivery? I'm probably preaching to the converted but it's a life saver here, when I get off my butt enough to organise one!

Frenetic, hope you get some answers today, is Dexter still constipated?

Memphisbelly · 25/03/2015 07:14

Frenetic hope docs have some advice for you.

Jack yes I am sure its jabs he seems his normal self again today thankfully

freneticfox · 25/03/2015 08:22

He's been going every two or three days. It's plenty loose, but he's still straining and writhing. This morning is just non stop crying. Losing my mind.

Grinningcat · 25/03/2015 09:16

Glad things are better today Memphis and hope you get some help today Frenetic.

Rubbish night here last night, but should have predicted it really. It appears that DH and I can either have a decent night's sleep broken only by feeding and nappy changes, but a rubbish evening where we eat in shifts and can't spend any time together, or a great quiet evening, but an awake baby wanting to be entertained/soothed (invariably means being walked constantly around the house) from 12 to 3/4am.

Saying that I have had a great couple of days where LO and I have pottered and I even managed some gardening with LO asleep in the pram.

Memphisbelly · 25/03/2015 09:34

grinning we have been outside a lot. LO loves being out and if crying he stops and will lie in pushchair all quiet.....if it continues we will spend lots of time out in the summer

Grinningcat · 25/03/2015 10:38

Same here. I love gardening and there is tons to do as I let the garden go a bit whilst I was pregnant. Really looking forward to lots of time with baby out there.

tweety89 · 25/03/2015 14:00

Same here. We haven't been out much, but on Sunday we went to have a nice lunch at Zizzi's and we didn't realise that LO went on 5 hours without a feed (even though I changed his nappy after 3 hours). He just loved the pram! :) We don't really worry about his feeds as he's been getting about one litre (!) of expressed breast milk and formula per day and yesterday HV weighed him and told that he should be getting about 700mls daily.
memphis I hope your LO feels better soon.
frenetic baby Jason has this grunting and straining and when I asked HV she asked whether he's having enough food, soiled and wet nappies and that's it really. She said that in general babies grunt and strain a lot...Not very helpful but somewhat reassuring. If the doc says something different, please do share. :)

Addictedtocustardcreams · 25/03/2015 14:14

Yay there is sunshine today! I am hoping we are going to be getting some good weather as think everything feels better with the sun out, it even helps sleep deprivation! Well I think it does anyway.
our outdoor space is a yard but last summer we got fake grass put down for DD. It doesn't sound that nice but actually looks great & is perfect for her to play on. Hoping to make good use this summer.
DS is being a bit cranky today so have put him in the sling & trying to just ignore him a bit & concentrate on sunshine & having fun with DD.

PeppermintInfusion · 25/03/2015 16:56

Mine seems to love his pram/car seat too- he'll sleep for hours past his feed usually when he's in it so plenty of walks for me as he can be hard to settle otherwise due to bad wind.

DH was back to work after pat leave today, and I made it through the day ok even though DS was super cranky this morning. 2 long walks helped! It also means I'm doing more of the night feeds now, as DH gets up at 6am for work.

Has anyone been to baby yoga/massage classes? If so, which would you recommend more? I've just found a local class with good reviews and its significantly cheaper than the pregnancy yoga class I went to. It also starts exactly 6 weeks after birth for me but not sure which one would be better, do you actually do much exercise at the yoga classes?

Memphisbelly · 25/03/2015 20:30

Addicted that is what we are having in our back garden as drainage is awful back there so its not really usable for much of the year.
I cannot wait to plant in my flower bed and so my baskets.
LO loves the pushchair but hates the carseat.

He is a lot less fussy today and not as pale either thankfully. Dh has informed me he is away again all next week and possibly the week after. ds1 cried in asda today that he missed daddy then again when I was trying to tell him the fun things we will do in holidays as daddy isn't here for them.

Memphisbelly · 25/03/2015 20:32

Peppermint our local Health visitor does a 6 week baby yoga/massage class for free apparently its fab, I will be giving it a miss but around here everyone raves about them

loopsyloup · 25/03/2015 20:41

One of my local children's centres does free baby yoga and massage. I went to the baby yoga on Monday and it was mostly the babies stretching, but it was a busy group and there wasn't a lot of room for the mums to move much! It was fun though and I'll go back, even if just to meet more mums with babies in RL!

Grinningcat · 25/03/2015 20:59

I've signed up to baby massage at our local children's centre. It's a free 5 week course and I'm really looking forward to it.

Have just put together a mobile that PIL have bought for Ds's cot. I held it over him downstairs and you should have Sen his little face light up as it went round. Shame he is still in the Moses basket as it would be useful to keep him entertained in the mornings.

GeekyHybrid · 25/03/2015 21:24

All this talk of getting out in the garden is making me itch! And talk of various classes makes me think of my growing to do list. Loads of stuff that I should be doing. As it is, LO has got my cold so has slept a lot today Grin , but only on me Sad He's very cranky if put down or made to wait over 3 seconds for his food Hmm I've got to admit I'm still waiting to feel like things are becoming 'normal'. Hey ho, I'm sure it will at some point. A semi normal nights sleep would probably help. Fingers crossed.

JacktheLab · 25/03/2015 21:41

My co sleeping cling on has fallen asleep in her cot! Hoping for a couple of hours sleeping solo tonight....

Will report back later ;)

freneticfox · 25/03/2015 22:56

Lots of tears today. Mum and baby..

Six week check up tomorrow, hoping all will be on track at last. Wishing everyone a decent night!

Memphisbelly · 25/03/2015 23:03

Grinning could you put LO in basket in the cot? When I need to do jobs upstairs/need loo I put LO in cot with mobile on and he is mesmerised!

Jack good luck!

Frenetic hope all goes well tomorrow at check up.

I cried tonight on facetime, ds1 is at mums and LO was cooing at dh on the screen and really focusing on him made me really emotional. He slept most of evening and is currently wide awake chilling in his crib, he needs to doze off soon so he stops grunting I have work and needs to sleep!

tweety89 · 25/03/2015 23:04

memphis didn't realise your LO was pale. Is he about 8 weeks old? I read on the internet that after two months the baby's bone marrow starts to produce red cells and that's when their iron levels get better.

Good night everyone and fingers crossed for my second interview tomorrow! If this doesn't work out, I'll probably try a yoga/massage class in a few weeks time. It sounds lovely! :)

Memphisbelly · 25/03/2015 23:18

Tweety yes I am very pale myself amd he seems more pale than his brother but he has been even paler since his jabs, apparently very normal according to leaflet they gave me. Good luck tomorrow hope it all goes well

blankfornames · 25/03/2015 23:28

Best of luck Tweety.

Peppermint, I had my first baby massage class today and i truely loved every moment of it. It was a) really lovely to connect with DS in that way and b) meet lots of other new Mums. We all stayed for lunch afterwards. Ive yet to do baby yoga but can highly recommend the massage class. The babies were all quite chilled out and were from 3 wks to 8 months. Great way to spend an hour!

Viperama · 26/03/2015 00:55

Hi all - don't think I've been on since baby arrived! Hope all are getting on well. I'm loving motherhood, I want to gobble up my son he's so sweet and adorable. Probably why I've not been on here, I've a wonderful new lifetime obsession now.

We got baby's fast track passport yesterday and looking to book flights shortly to meet both families abroad...

Does anyone have any travelcot recommendations?

I'd like to buy soon so I can use a few times at home so he is used to cot by the time we go away.

Bangonthedoor · 26/03/2015 03:11

Evening (morning) all

Good luck for 6 week check frenetic I hope all goes well.

I hope your LO feels better soon memphis Brew

jack, hooray! Let us know if your little lady stayed in her cot. I hope she did for you!

SIL came to do my hair this evening, DP agreed to watch LO and put DD1 to bed so we could get on in the kitchen. He finally settled LO when DD1 started screaming from upstairs - she had been sick everywhere and continued to do so for 2 hours Sad I already had foils in my hair so DP and I were a tag team between both kids. Not fun and now I'm just waiting for my turn to be sick Confused she'll be off nursery tomorrow and I've got a bin liner full of bedding to hose down and wash. Feeling quite daunted by the thought of tonights feeds and the work that lies ahead of me tomorrow. DD1 seems to be fine now, I've just checked in on her again and no more sick.

I wish DP would stop bloody snoring!! Angry
