Our first thread on the 'other side'. And may all our soon to be mummies join us in this adventure through the early days of parenthood as we continue to share exciting times.

tweety89 · 22/03/2015 19:53

geeky try the warm flannels while in the shower and the cabbage tricks. They do work and saved me from antibiotics twice this time.
I hope you feel better soon.

Memphisbelly · 22/03/2015 20:16

Sorry to hear of people suffering today.
I went out last night and drank a silly amount, I have been very ill all day Blush mum had boys so we could spend day in garden but I spent day in bed or with my head down toilet while dh lay patio......then I got up and felt ok for him to come down with a bug so he is in bed, ds1 is in bed and LO is snoozing on the sofa.

Mum came back with LO and she had poo all over her, he had a poo while in car seat, she had tucked the elastic but that stops poo escaping nappy in so it was all down one leg, took 2 of us to sort him.

freneticfox · 22/03/2015 22:26

Memphis, sounds like an erm.. Messy day! I would suggest unwinding with a glass of wine but that's probably the worst idea :p

Now beginning the 'will LO sleep tonight' ritual.

trukevoli · 23/03/2015 03:19

hats off to all you mummy's dealing with little sleep.

LO has been quite a good sleeper so I have been very lucky. however I haven't had any sleep yet tonight as I have been being sick and on the toilet all night. was just about to drift off and LO has woken up for a feed.

Had to do loads of Internet reassurance that it is ok to feed whilst ill.

OH is fast asleep in the spare room oblivious to my sickness. Just hoping he doesn't get it.

how do you all cope the next day....I am dreading it already!

blankfornames · 23/03/2015 03:40

Oh no Truk. Sounds horrible. Is it a bug? Hope it passes quickly. My lack of sleep usually allows me to function rather normally during the day but at night from about 8 on, I become monosyllabic and exhausted. DH is in the other room and after this feed, I'll opt for the easy way out and stick DS into the bed with me.

We'll look back and smile about these times!

Mimosa1 · 23/03/2015 08:54

Hello everyone. I hope some of you remember me from the prenatal thread. Baby Mimosa was born 5 weeks ago and I'm only just managing to post. I've caught up on the thread and sounds like lots of our babies have silent reflux. LO does too and wanted to add that gaviscon has really worked for her (only 1 sachet per bottle) with no noticeable constipation for those who we're thinking of trying it.
All the best,
M

trukevoli · 23/03/2015 09:05

After a hellish night and still feeling dreadful I have given in and called my mum to come and help me look after little one so I can sleep.

it is a shame she lives an hour and a half away.

I think it is a bug and praying it's only 24 hours.

Honeybird · 23/03/2015 09:20

Oh dear truke hope you're feeling better soon.
Had a terrible night, but I know why - it's because yesterday I uttered the words 'she sleeps quite well'.
I've always found the lack of sleep, which was worse with the other two, relatively easy to deal with. I've always really loved my sleep so when I first got pregnant I expected to be a completely malfunctioning zombie, but was pleasantly surprised by how little sleep I can still function on. It's crying that sends me into a stressed tailspin.

GeekyHybrid · 23/03/2015 09:25

Thanks for the sympathy guys. Last night was shite, most of it holding LO upright so he could sleep, on the sofa so OH could sleep. At 4.30 OH got up for work so we took over the bed but LO is so unsettled. Filmed him so I'm armed for the doctors later this morning. Oh, and I managed to let him feed from the sore breast over night. I had pumped it not long before but at least I could let him near it! Actually red this morning but regular emptying is helping. The joys of bf Shock

GeekyHybrid · 23/03/2015 15:14

meant to say earlier, hi again mim!

blankfornames · 23/03/2015 17:53

What is it about our unsettled babies at the moment? My DS has finally fallen asleep. Despite a walk, bath, cuddles, being rocked...a million things, nothing has settled him today. This 10 minute stint is the longest he has slept for in 12 hours. Sad Honey, I find the crying exasberating too. I usually end up crying along with him!
In better news, I was worried about his weight and was afraid breastfeeding alone wasnt enough for my hungry little man but turns out that he put on 9ozs since this day last week. Am delighted!
Truk, hope you're feeling much better this afternoon

trukevoli · 23/03/2015 18:40

Thank god for mummy's. My mum has been a godsend arrived with lucozade. Took LO for a walk whilst I slept. I fed him and then got another couple of hours sleep. It also took her 3 hours to get here!

feeling less sick which is amazing. can't handle feeding LO whilst on my tummy though.

hope the rest of you are ok.

And halfway through writing this, we just had our first smile! and both me and OH were there to see it.

tweety89 · 23/03/2015 19:25

i hope you feel better truk and I wish my mum was like your mum...MIL is like this, but my mum...not really...To be fair, when we were 15 or so, she had told us that she wouldn't help us with our children as 'she had done her bit with us'... :S
blank frenetic I really hope your LO's settle soon. I had the same prob with DD (as she was feeding every 1.5 hours 24/7 for the first...three months!). In the end I read a 'magic' book and realised she wasn't hungry, she was just sleepy! So as soon as I started having a proper routine for her she started sleeping like...a baby! :D
Hi mimosa!

sandulacek · 23/03/2015 20:20

Hi all,

Sorry to hear about all the non sleepy babies. We had a bad night too with lo settling from 8 till 1am! I was on a very short fuse Confused.
honey I'm same somehow managing the lack of sleep but the crying...
geeky hope you're feeling better soon

GeekyHybrid · 23/03/2015 20:47

truk glad you got sleep and bless your mum, I hope you keep getting better. Tweety my mom's words were 'I've done my time'. Looking back a fairly good contraceptive device for teenage girls knowing that if you get in trouble you're on your own! My mom is staying with us at the mo but is fairly chocolate teapot ish Confused She is 70 but even so. Apart from doing a few dishes hasn't done much besides hold Isaac (whilst doing her crosswords!). No nappies, cooking and doesn't drive at the mo cos of cataracts. Hey ho, she goes home Friday.
Our doctors visit was frustrating. Because he's gaining weight well she said not reflux and we've got Colief which helps breakdown lactose. I did explain that with silent reflux they comfort feed but she wasn't convinced. We'll see what happens Hmm As for me, antibiotics for the mastitis but totally different ones to those prescribed by the other doc (which I never took) when I had the bleb!! All the hot baths and expressing does mean I managed to feed Isaac on the sore side today so progress of sorts. And a nap this afternoon means I even managed to cook dinner, a definite improvement on last night when I just wanted to collapsed. Fingers crossed for everyone for sleep tonight.

Just wanted to say thanks for the welcome back! It's been lovely caching up on the thread and seeing others having similar experiences. Hope you all have a good night.

freneticfox · 23/03/2015 21:27

Hi Mimosa, and congratulations!

I have a plugged milk duct. Ow.

JacktheLab · 23/03/2015 21:45

Just checking in, am much better at posting on facebook!

Good to hear that there are some mums who are like mine, she's made it clear that she's too busy to help out much, but I wasn't expecting any help so wasn't too upset.

Finding having two a special type of hell, my three year old is playing up now and having to put them to bed on my own on a Monday night is horrid. Both of them crying at the same time is the worst, but I am telling myself that things are getting better and in a few months this will be forgotten, better be!!!

GeekyHybrid · 23/03/2015 22:24

frenetic yep, ouch. Hope you can get it cleared quickly.
jack I have nothing but admiration for those of you juggling 2 or more. Hopefully we'll all be laughing in a few months and patting ourselves on the back that we got through it!

Bangonthedoor · 24/03/2015 02:50

Why do poonamis always happen at this time?! LO had slept well tonight up until now when she won't settle after being mopped up with cold wipes!

jack, it sounds like you're doing a great job. I'm still also struggling with the 2 but only in the morning and evening really as that's when they both want things at the same time and the evening is when they're both at their most grumpy. Slowly getting better at taking them both out on my own now, ventured to a soft play centre yesterday which went well and DD1 had a great time making friends.

Glad you felt a bit better yesterday geeky, that's rubbish about the doctors though re reflux debate.

Hello again mimosa! I must check back here more but I too am better at checking/posting on the fb group.

Hope everyone else's nights aren't going too badly.

GeekyHybrid · 24/03/2015 05:51

bang that IS a crap time for a poonami!
My LO has got my cold Sad so his breathing is so loud. Just trying to persuade him he wants a few more hours sleep. He woke for feeding minutes before OH's alarm at 4.30. OH has now gone to work, we're fed, have a clean nappy and I've expressed so hopefully we can sleep. Fingers crossed.

Honeybird · 24/03/2015 08:15

We don't do poonamis so much at night, we prefer to do them out and about where most awkward. For example, DURING my meeting with DS's teacher yesterday. Decided to keep talking after the explosion, knowing poo was gently seeping into clothes and, for all I knew, her seat as well. Got lucky there - just the clothes.

Memphisbelly · 24/03/2015 10:48

LO has been throwing up feeds for a few days I just presumed it was the reflux and upped his gaviscon to 2 sachets....that coupled with poonami's becoming more common and his poo smelling awful but dh has had some d and v virus and just had a call from my mum im wondering if he may have had a mild virus and been sharing it around family.

longbottom · 24/03/2015 20:11

Hello ladies, I too have not posted since having Martha four weeks ago! Facebook is a lot easierSmile
Have spent the last two days catching up.
Martha has had a cold for the last two days so not much sleep going on for me. Although she has slept an awful lot today so will prob be up all night crying.
I've totally given up on the breast feeding, felt broken, and hated expressing so 100% formula now. She seems fine although is a little piggy, 4-5 ounces every three hours around the clock!?

Mammoth post but can hopefully keep up now!
