Elloo!
Blank- i think I would have gone to yoga even in the early stages of labour as it was just that relaxing!

Sling shopping had been foiled by a small range in mothercare- tried out an Ergo which was very comfy but I wondered if it might be too hot for around the house. I'd like to give the caboo a go too so the search continues!

Surf25 · 18/02/2015 21:18

Hello all! Marking my place too! Been checking in periodically, still waiting for the lo to make an appearance but enjoying the time with dh who is now on annual leave before paternity leave starts and with the girls before dc3 appears! 39+5 here... Can't remember who on here had a sweep, MW did offer one on Mon when I'll be 40+3 but am undecided whether I'd go for it or not - what do folk think?

Oh and frenetic sorry things have been so tough. Nipple shields were the only thing that kept me bf dd1 tbh! But I very strongly feel that there is too much pressure around bf as it's really tough and just doesn't always work out! i am completely in the 'be kind to yourself and don't be too hard on yourself' camp with all things related to being a mummy. Ultimately baby needs cuddles, warmth, clean bums and fed milk by some method! And your lo is getting exactly those things so they are being perfectly provided for!!

Hopefully we can all help and support one another through all these ups and downs! And for those of us who are still waiting hopefully we'll be enjoying cuddles soon! Smile

Surf25 · 18/02/2015 21:19

Sorry for the length of that! And I forgot to ask about the fbook group - could I join too please?? i think i'd like to!!

freneticfox · 18/02/2015 21:20

Second feed from the breast, done! He was on for about 15 minutes but still took a fairly substantial top up (expressed) so I'm wondering if maybe he's still not quite on properly?

passthenutella · 18/02/2015 21:43

Can I join in? 39+1 due next Tuesday. Can't wait but feeling like it'll never end. Have packed and repacked the hospital bags so many times. I'm so ready. Hope your all keeping well, and congratulations new mumsSmile

Memphisbelly · 18/02/2015 22:47

Frenetic give it time, he will get there, ds gets really tired feeding very quickly, he has a 5-15 mins feed then goes back for more after a little rest. It took a good week to get his latch and suck strong and he is bottle fed. Also try and stay relaxed he will feel if you are stressed out, last night I went and sat in toilet when I felt a bit stressy.

loopsyloup · 18/02/2015 23:03

Bangles - I have an ergo, it's brilliant and the best I've tried for when they're bigger and you want to carry their weight on your waist rather than shoulders. Still use ours on the nearly-3yo!

And Frenetic - well done! Biggest challenge is getting people to pay attention! Keep trying but I agree with others here - you know how far you can push yourself, and don't torture yourself. Hardest job in the world, but can also be the best!

Katsand · 19/02/2015 03:20

Hi all.
So today was first full day at home. (He was born Tuesday) so far so good. He is taking breast well and I must've nipples of steel or something as I have never found it too painful but we will see how things progresses:-)
Got the bedside cot put up today so he is sleeping in it at the moment. I am trying so hard to put him down as much as possible as I am a baby cuddler and my son ( 2 years 4months) still want to be held to fall asleep. I just want him to be used to sleeping on his own so the bedside cot is great. We got the waldin from Amazon and even though my partner said it was a nightmare to assemble it looks nice and I think it looks quite big so should prob hold him until he's one. We will then put up the cotbed for him to sleep in independently. Fingers crossed. :-).
Surf I completely agree with you regarding pressure on mothers to breastfeed. On my 36 weeks appointment I had to sit through a 20 minutes "seminar" by the midwife about why I should breastfeed and that was after I told her I breastfed both my children including my son until he was almost two and was intending if possible to breastfeed this one. So imagine the pressure if I'd said I wasn't planning to lol
We do what we can and that's all we can do.

blankfornames · 19/02/2015 06:14

Surf, regarding the sweep, Due Date today and was offered a sweep yday so took it. I ended up losing the plug last night in what I think was the show. Got super excited thinking..this is it. But nothing since. Feel a bit deflated as imagined myself in full labour today but it hasnt. Early days yet though!
I would get it done. If anything, it beats being indeuced if it does work!
Good luck with it all.

PinkyAndTheBump · 19/02/2015 07:31

Aha! Nipple shields. I think I need to try that. We've got an "excited ineffective" who just doesn't know what to do when you give her the nipple and hence I'm sat here with a rental Medela Symphony pumping away when she's sleeping and we're missing out on some lovely skin to skin time!!

GeekyHybrid · 19/02/2015 08:14

Welcome passthenutella, hope you enjoy the madness that is the Feb '15 support group! Shock Hmm

Here I'm feeding for the 3/4th time since trying to go to bed at 11ish - you guessed it - he decided he wanted a feed then too. So a 2.30-3am feed, 5am ish and now. I've also done 3 nappies. OH has pretty much slept through all this so if he has another 'grumpy' day complaining he's tired I may just have to commit murder.

For those asking about the FB group, I'm a bit useless but it involves pm'ing your email to someone who is capable, I'm sure one of them will follow up soon enough Smile

Welcome passthenutella :)

If anyone wants to join the fb, ive, sussed it out and dont mind adding peeps, so just pm me your real name, and what you look like in your fb photo and i'll send you a friend request... And apologies if it takes a while for me to do it!

I should not be left alone for night feeds- impulse bought the close caboo carrier yesterday before I even tried it- its coming tomorrow, so hoping it'll be good! If we all love it, I might invest in an ergo a bit later on for going put as it was definitely comfortable for both of us and felt secure (depending on if I can use some john lewis vouchers on it- dont think Id be able to afford it otherwise!)

donkir · 19/02/2015 09:09

Bangles I also used john Lewis vouchers to buy our ergo. No way would I have paid £114 otherwise. I just hope I use it enough to get my money's worth.
I think I've pm' most who wanted to join fb. It was while doing 3-5am feed though so I might have missed someone.

Memphisbelly · 19/02/2015 09:33

The good thing about the ergo is resale value on ebay is good so it can be sold on to get a chunk of your money back.

I am going to the sling library tomorrow apparently it is £5 a fortnight to rent them so I may rent a few and see how I get on with them before I buy one.

Baby woke at 1, 4.30 and 7 he has been fussy since 7 and just again settled now.

GeekyHybrid · 19/02/2015 09:42

Well done donkir, I've not cracked night time multi tasking, I tend to feed laying on my side in bed and go back to sleep ASAP. Maybe I'll be more inclined to get out of bed once it doesn't hurt to manoeuvre Hmm The bruising is well gone but where the stitches are healing it's still smarting. I'm getting worried as OH is back at work Saturday, it's things like getting up and down from the sofa whilst holding LO that becomes a palaver Sad

OP posts:
GeekyHybrid · 19/02/2015 09:44

However, to be positive, managed the ultimate multi tasking the other day, simultaneously bf LO and ate spaghetti bolognase without major spillage or mess Grin Grin

Grinningcat · 19/02/2015 09:53

Well had period pain cramping through the night, but nothing since I got up and moving around. Now waiting for the british gas person to come and repair the part they broke last week when servicing the boiler. Hope my waters break while they are here... that would serve them right Grin.

BanglesSpangles · 19/02/2015 11:22

Haha grinning

Interesting that the ergo can sell on for a decent amount... Im really looking forward to the caboo coming tomorrow- Sid's not even a massive fusser, but i just can't bear to put him down - currently sitting on the sofa, watching this morning and doing some blogging while he snoozes... Should really put him down and do some ironing!

freneticfox · 19/02/2015 11:25

Off to a breastfeeding clinic today for follow up support (soaking up all the help I can!) I noticed this morn that he's taking just the teat of the nipple shield, rather than a mouthful of areola - wondering if this is normal with Shields, and how I can rectify it if not.

The journey to BF continues. Feeling a little less desolate today, I know that I'm doing all I can to try so if it still doesn't work it, I can't say I didn't give it my all.

Also still paranoid I'm under feeding him. He seems to be perpetually hungry :/

Loveallmyboys · 19/02/2015 11:37

fox my DS was prem so we had latching issues. I eventually found that if I squashed my nipple/areola flattish and 'posted' into his mouth, he latches great. That way, he got areola not just the nipple

freneticfox · 19/02/2015 11:40

love - I'm hoping I can get this nailed, but I'm yet to have a successful BF direct from the breast.

Memphis I also sent a private message to the local breastfeeding support group on FB after your recommendation. I notice they don't update very often so I'm hoping they see my message!

Fingers crossed grinning - I always imagined if I went naturally my waters would end up going at the most inopportune moment!

Loveallmyboys · 19/02/2015 12:05

Give the 'nipple sandwich' as I call it, a go! Patience too it's bloody hard work considering it's the most natural thing I'm the world! Look up Liverpool Bambi's on Facebook. They are full of amazing advice. Real die-hard breastfeeders!

WhyOWhyWouldYou · 19/02/2015 12:22

After her initial 7.7% weight loss and then no gain, She was reweighed today (9days) and had regained just 10g. Midwife said that was an OK amount for a big girl and to reweigh in a week. Just feels so disheartening when she's a good feeder.

Grinningcat · 19/02/2015 13:54

Ha well waters didn't go. I have reflexology tonight so maybe that will move things along a bit. Feeling lots of pressure around my rear end today so hopefully that means that the head is starting to engage.

GeekyHybrid · 19/02/2015 14:21

I miss my MW, she had a sense of humour. I don't think HV 'gets me'!! Hmm
