Plonky I think what we need to cheer us up are one, two or three new thread babies over the next few months to cheer us. Sad panda here too.

WottaMess · 08/05/2015 07:14

Hmmm. Those exit polls on the money as far as the snp landslide at least. Still not declared down here but I'm in a safe seat so no surprises due for me.

New babies sound like a great distraction Eco. Shorter term is settle for a non rainy day and non snotty ds but worryingly think even that might be asking too much! Confused

New car arrives this afternoon though. Always exciting even if it is a flying hairdryer! Grin

Plonkysaurus · 08/05/2015 08:45

Arr you don't even have rain forecast today Wotta? I guess you've got to take your wins where you can!

Right then shattered no pressure Grin

Well it is a good time for new babies - if you want more have them now while there's still an NHS to deliver them.

On the plus side, this week I have discovered I can get twelve individual meals out of one chicken, so it'll take 'em longer than expected to starve this particular inactive economic unit out.

And it's Mum's results today too. Can we just get on with the apocalypse already?

Plonkysaurus · 08/05/2015 09:23

Have you found the magic mumsnet chicken, Stormy?

I'm silently panicking about the possible state of schools by the time our kids are old enough to go.

I don't think there's any result that would be a comfort to you today Stormy but you know where we all are when you need to blow off steam. Hugs cake and virtual brews always available.

Well I guess it wasn't the result MN in general wanted. On the flip side had it gone the other way we would probably closed down the hotel and the renovation company we have set up, making 20 full time employees redundant. Financially that would have been our best option. Net result the government would lose tax from the businesses, tax from us, tax from the salaries we pay, employer and employee NI, 20 people would lose their jobs, and yet another viable business property would be converted to a private house unaffordable to local people. Plenty of other people would do similar.

That's the irony of politics. Policies are not neutral. Target wealth creators, they will stop creating wealth and invest in assets outside the tax net. Reward apathy, and people become apathetic. It's complicated. In my opinion no one party has all the right policies, the country needs a balance and needs to protect the vulnerable but also foster and encourage wealth creation which comes hand in hand with tax revenues and job creation. We need a new political party that falls between the two Any one want to start one???!!!

But before you all accuse me of being right ring, the Tory result has strengthened sterling v dollar which loses us a lot of money!

Boring economic discussion aside, how's everyone's day? I'm on cloud nine as I can breathe! The death rattle has gone. Plus I survived being home alone with two, so I must be cured Smile!

worserevived · 08/05/2015 09:28

Stormy thinking of you today.

WottaMess · 08/05/2015 09:41

All the best Stormy.

And yes, think you have found an mn chicken! Grin

Plonkysaurus · 08/05/2015 09:53

Worse I completely respect your point of view, because it's sensible and well considered. My parents employ near on 100 people across England and Wales and they feel the same.

what I can't abide is the workers/shirkers nonsense and benefit bashing that some people go in for. It drives me potty and makes me wish for a more open society that's driven by a common good rather than endless pursuit of revenue. I have very strong beliefs in many policies that happen to be ideologically opposed to the current Tory pov. I suspect I'm secretly hard left and an doomed to a lifetime of disappointmentGrin!

Anyway that's enough of that. Glad you're feeling better but please don't push yourself too hard love. Is the hotel coming along nicely now? Certainly sounds like your DH is putting the hours in, so I really hope it pays off.

Eco I forgot! I have steamed through Broadchurch this week....Shock

I am too sad to post. I am thinking about the state of education and nhs for us.

I am thinking of you stormy.

StormyBrid · 08/05/2015 10:37

I just want a government - any government - that will base policy on evidence. None of the ridiculous ideologies that leave people trampled in their wake. Just evidence-based policies that have the wellbeing of the nation's people at heart.

But no, we get fucking Tories. Tories who are going to cut a further twelve billion in benefits, and it won't come from pensions, which means I am screwed. Get a job? There are so few, and they're all zero hours, and with the conditionality and sanctions regime coming to tax credits soon even getting a job won't bring security. There is no possible escape. I am deeply frightened I won't even have a roof over our heads by the next election.

StormyBrid · 08/05/2015 14:11

And it's not Huntington's. So we're back to square one there. Oh my days, could today get any more shit?

Plonkysaurus · 08/05/2015 15:49

Stormy I'm sorry you don't have the answer. Must really suck. if it's not Huntington's does that mean there's a greater chance of you and family making it to old age without a similar degenerative condition? I hope it does. And hope you get closer to an answer soon.

WottaMess · 08/05/2015 15:51

Yes Stormy. Is there no argument that that's a good thing? Hugs anyway. Thanks

StormyBrid · 08/05/2015 18:37

Nope, unfortunately Mum still has something very very like it, and we're just as potentially buggered.

ecofreckle · 08/05/2015 20:41

Flowers Stormy. The mystery continues then. Shit bags.
