Whoever originally said about parties - I would follow what's on the invite as I'd be miffed if people brought extras to a party if I'd specifically asked them not to. I wouldn't take siblings unless had been told it was ok, or would ask if I couldn't get a sitter. Would def expect a parent present at 4yo.
T def won't be having anything other than a close family party for another year or 2 - as long as I can get away with it!
T has started throwing the most immense Wobblies about getting nappy and pjs on for bed - screaming like you wouldn't believe. Tonight I had to put her naked in her cot for 5 minutes because I just couldn't do anything with her and was about to lose my temper. When I went back and gave her a cuddle and asked if she was ready to get ready for bed she was good as gold! Beast!

We've decided to follow in my Uncles footsteps and just throw family parties in our house for H's Birthday. We'll make a pan of scouse and a pan of curry and tell everyone to bring their own drink. Children can fall asleep wherever they want and adults can all have a nice gab.

WL i can imagine the guilt your feeling when you go to work, but i also agree with everyone else, ultimately it will benefit everyone that you are doing.

Nutella, if H's runs away from me i turn away and shout bye bye (if its safe to do so). She usually always comes running back. If the turning away doesn't work i take a few steps as well. I do this if she refuses to go to bed as well, i just walk out the living room and shout night night i'm going to bed and she follows.

wlmum exactly which is why first one I went on my own as they'd say only 1 parent as not much space but I was the only one who turned up without other half! But think you should follow the invite a and felt bad that ds wouldn't stay yesterday without us but we did try and he just got so upset. Did apologise to the organiser for having to stay.

Glad that lots of other people on board with a big family party with less stress. Not just me being weird.

DH is antisocial and doesn't even want family parties. Last year for A we went to the aquarium with GPs, then for a meal where God parents were invited. This year DH wants it to be just us.

We'll see what everyone else in DD's class does (advantage of a summer birthday), but so far there's been 1 with no party, 1 with friends from nursery and 1 has invited the whole class to a picnic in the park.

We didn't have a party for DS last year, but did his presents in Christmas Eve. Not sure why family didn't come, I think we didn't invite and they didn't ask... When we did a summer 18m day family weren't interested in joining in . I think we'll do a quiet family thing again around Christmas, and the zoo in the summer. Maybe inviting a couple of other mums and toddlers to come along too.

We're suffering with bad sleep here again. Not with DS though, just DD. She seems to have reflux like DS did, I spent quite a lot of last night with her sitting up on my knee. She'd fuss laying down, I'd pick her up and she'd fall asleep - lay her down and she'd fuss again. Really don't want to medicate her, but not sure what I can do. It's a shame, as I think she'd sleep quite well if she was comfy, as she falls asleep again quickly without milk.

I dunno, Spotty R seems to have discovered The Tantrum today full on screaming because I wouldn't let him have his toy car to play with while he ate lunch. He's never allowed toys to play with while we're eating

Utopian i love the idea of a holiday for their birthdays.

Oh yes, we've had the scream for a couple of weeks, usually reserved for having an unwanted nappy put on. I find it goes nicely hand hand with eel like wriggling and furious kicking and thrashing!

Hales I did thanks. We got upgraded to a £2000+/night penthouse so ended up staying in with wine and pizza-perfect!

Ds has been asleep for 13 hours, dd and I had 11.5hours

We did a huge party on the 20th last year as ds was born on Christmas Day. This year is going to be more low key, just a few friends for a little Christmas themed tea party.

Ds' birthday is five days after my wedding. He'll be lucky to even get a present
