We have quite a range of ages and they each develop at their own rates... so what can your toddler do?

J was born right in the middle of the month (15th) so I expect he's pretty average. He has been walking since the day after his birthday and is steady enough to walk outside now so long as you're in a wide open space as he always runs off. He doesn't have any words yet although there are some sounds that might eventually become words such as gog for dog and da-doh for bye-bye possibly I'm just imagining it though. For any other skillz he did manage to take his own pyjama trousers off for his bath today .

LO was 19/10 and walked just under 13mo. She can't do stairs as we don't have any to practice on. She has a few words: maman, papa, cat, chien, god for dog, row row row, macca pacca, non, caca, that (when she points), and bras (French for arms), kiss and cuddle, both in French. Oh and boire (drink, which I always imagine her saying in a Fr Jack voice)

L is the 23rd. He's walking since 11 months and talks and sings. He's going through some huge leap at the moment as every day we have new words and lines of songs. It's very cool and makes up for the lack of sleep!!

I'll just add DD1 walked at 15mo (first steps, took a while to actually walk) and was well over 20mo before she talked. Even on her 2nd birthday there were just random words, no sentences.

She doesn't shut up now it's a constant wittery stream of consciousness. No need to worry, is what I'm saying.

No real words here, just lots of 'dogo' which means different things according to the occasion. He makes himself understood surprisingly well and he seems to understand everything we say pretty much.

He took his first step at 12m10d (his due date) but didn't walk properly till about a month later, once he was sure of himself, and then went straight into running, so I fully expect he'll keep on with the 'dogo's until one day he'll turn around and say 'dear mother, please could I request your delicious shepherd's pie for supper, thank you very much'.

:o Has anyone ever dreamed their LO was actually speaking? Quite often in my dreams LO (and DD1) is speaking like a much older child - full sentences, no babbling, like a 6yo but still with a toddler face and body.

Nope. But I dreamt he was running down the stairs the other night.

J could sing before he could talk. He still loves singing and now has 5 songs that are easily recognisable. The tunes are perfect, and the words are coming on.

He was born on 25/10 at 39 weeks on the nose.

He can walk and is trying to run. He is also getting very good at climbing.

He knows lots of words, and seems to be saying new things each day. He can say 'don't do daft' complete with waggly finger, and today called DD2 by her name.

He can feed himself with a spoon, so long as it is not a liquid as mummy cannot cope with the mess.

He can blow kisses, and climb stairs, but not at the same time.

He is very funny and loves to make people laugh.

He can put three blocks in a tower, and can stick masses of duplo together.

He can manage to wake his entire family, and can successfully pin his mummy to the sofa for hours.

At the moment he could get employment as a muck spreader.

Don't do dat even. Oops!

O was born on 20/11. She took first steps at 13m, walked at 14, run at 15. She talks. A lot. Over 40 words, all clear. Both in English and Hungarian. And sings. Bloody old McDonald over and over again.She scribbles and can do stacking rings in order. She mastered pulling drawers out and pushing them back without trapping her finger.

She is a master of whining, can't feed herself, can't do stairs. She can't do duplo or stacking cups, blocks. She can't drink out of a cup. And she can't sit down, always on the go. She gives kisses to her soft toys but not to humans.

High 5 back.

Maybe J will join a Swedish pop group and win Eurovision.

Oh no. I have started youtubing Abba songs I'm fairly sure nothing will get done for the rest of the day now. I'll go through loads, then watch French and Saunders taking the piss out of Mamma Mia, then go on to other sketches, then go back to listen to Meryl Streep belt out The Winner Takes It All then I will be drawn to Slipping Through My Fingers and will sob buckets.

This always happens when I start looking at Abba songs.

Stop it you two. I have other things to do. I can't just sing abba songs all afternoon.

Singing Abba songs is a very worthwhile way to spend anafternoon.
