We have quite a range of ages and they each develop at their own rates... so what can your toddler do?

R took his first steps at 11 1/2 months but didn't walk properly till 14. According to the HV he had 12 words at 11 months, but they're sounds that mean something. He still doesn't reliably say his words but has done Cat, Millie (name of our cat), Mummy, Daddy (both in context), Up, Down, Bubble, Apple and Pear (last two according to my mum/sil). He doesn't do actions apart from clap/pat head/wave good bye to If You're Happy And You Know It. He waves if he thinks we're leaving, and can touch his head/nose/mouth/ears if asked. He follows quite complicated instructions like "Are you hungry?" goes to highchair "Do you want to go out?" fetches coat, keys or shoes "Do you need a nappy?" goes to changing mat or nappy bag depending on where we are. He can choose his own clothes and food - including pasta in a bag, egg in it's shell and an unpeeled potato. He eats off a plate but isn't interested in using cutlery beyond the first mouthful - although he will grab the spoon and hand it to me if I'm not quick enough Hmm he eats finger food nicely.

He was born 19/11 so slightly on the younger side of this fred I think?

Lily O shares my birthday :o

and yes i'm on the laptop, plans for the day changed hurrah!

My H can do a lot more than I give him credit for. He can't talk or walk, but can take steps between two things. He can go up and down steps. He can do the actions for wheels on the bus, loves the stand up sit down bit and twinkle twinkle, and a bit of wind the bobbin up. He's very good with making a tower with blocks can get three or four before destroying it and can play happily with megablocks and books for ages. He can do jigsaw puzzles. We have one with dinosaurs and one with emergency services vehicles and he can do those. He can kind of use an open cup with a bit of help and can use a fork and a spoon but messily. He was born 7 Oct, exactly 6 weeks early. He understands some, not all. And loves kisses and hugs.

Thechick · 28/02/2014 11:37

Pp your little one can do loads
Pr Smile

Oh and my little one can grow teeth like a trooper, he has had 16 for about a month and I think another one is coming

applepieinthesky · 28/02/2014 11:40

C was born on the 14th November. This was my original due date before I had my 12 week scan and they changed it.

He took his first steps a few days after his birthday but didn't start walking until he was 13 months.

His Farsi is more advanced than his English. He can say what is it, at home, sit down and various simple sentences. In English he only says single words - mum, dad, nan, gandad (grandad), Liam (his uncle), Nano/Hano (Kano the dog), in, hot, stop, go.

Other skills? He sings, dances, climbs, helps my dad makes cups of tea by getting the milk out the fridge and putting it back, getting the teabag out. He dives over the dog with arms outstretched, plays on the xbox, hoovers. When I ask if he's done a poo he will go and fetch a clean nappy and wipes, if he has only done a wee he will go and put the wet nappy in the bin for me afterwards. His new favourite skill is feeding himself.

As my mum would say he's like a proper little human now Grin He's so much fun and very affectionate. He is always kissing and cuddling everyone.

Thechick · 28/02/2014 11:49

I'm loving this thread. Its so lovely to hear what they can all do. H loves closing doors and putting lids on things

Thechick · 28/02/2014 11:50

H can't dance, he kind of moves his head side to side and that's his dancing

PurplePidjin · 28/02/2014 11:54

I think because I'm with him all the time plus I used to work in a field where I had to pay close attention I notice more stuff?

He's had 30 minutes sleep. He's now lying in his cot shouting tiredly at me. He's got his drink and I've just changed his bum. FFS!!!!!

Thechick · 28/02/2014 11:57

I think its all lovely. Can't wait till H is doing more, but he'll get there, don't want to wish his babyhood/toodlerhood away. Feeling full of love today!!

StuntNun · 28/02/2014 11:58

J goes to the kitchen cupboard and gets out a sippy cup when he's thirsty. Neither of the other two ever did that. DS1 at 11 just got the highest score his school have ever had in the selection test for grammar school and is preparing for his grade 5 cornet exam.. but he didn't walk until 15 months and still had no words at all at 18 months. So hopefully that reassures anyone that's worrying because their toddler isn't walking or talking. Interestingly VQ he could sing the tunes of loads of nursery rhymes waaaay before he could talk and he's a talented musician (started the trumpet aged 6) so maybe your J is going to be musical too.

pidj that's pr's bday too. It's an awesome birth date.

Sophiathesnowfairy · 28/02/2014 12:25

If you give O a box of matches to shake harmlessly, he tries to light them.

Really

Sophiathesnowfairy · 28/02/2014 12:26

Obviously I did then take them off him.

Sophiathesnowfairy · 28/02/2014 12:26

And place them out of reach.

Thechick · 28/02/2014 12:35

They notice everything, don't they. They are like sponges for information

Brockle · 28/02/2014 12:39

work is do boring at the mo and this is a lovely thread Smile

Yousef was born on 22 Nov. he garbles mostly but we have mama, Baba and Zak used correctly. he also days there, dowstairs and outside and a few phases that are garbled but recognisable to DH and I. he loves doing animal sounds and his caterpillar sound is very cute. he eats with a spoon really well and we ate starting with the fork now. he walked at 11 months and can run and climb a bit. he understands a lot and will bring his nappirs. mat and wipes if you ask him if he has a dirty nappy. he only stacks a couple of bricks but can put duplo together. he loves kissing and I am his main recipientGrin Grin his main love is football and throwing a ball so you can catch it. he takes a few steps back, says deddy, deddy go and runs and boots the ball. his throwing is not as good as his kicking Grin DH is so proud Blush sure there is more but can't think right now. two posts in one thread. wow!

Elizadoesdolittle · 28/02/2014 13:24

I hate Abba!

Passmethecrisps · 28/02/2014 13:27

This is lovely!!

P was born 12/11

She has been walking since 10.5months. As soon as she took a step she walked.
She can run - very fast
She can now say mummy, daddy, Gaia, meows at the cat in different tones
She sings along to the ee eye ee eye oh bit of old macdonald
She can use a fork sort of.
She can climb the stairs completely unaided and can now manage to do it standing with something to steady her
She will go and look for things you ask her for -dummy, bedtime dummy and similar
She now knows where her nose is
She tries to do the actions for songs
She sings constantly absolutely tunelessly

StormyIsles · 28/02/2014 13:46

M took her first steps on her first birthday and has walked run everywhere since.

She is a December baby but chatters garbage non stop.

I am in packing hell. And xp just casually asked me to marry him Shock Angry

ChasingDaisy · 28/02/2014 13:48

Lovely thread!

O was born on 28/11. He has just started walking whilst holding my hands, but no independent steps yet. Has said a few words clearly - no, bye bye and red - but once he has said them once he doesn't bother again. Lots of babbling though. Understands instructions - will fetch toys, shoes, cars, muslins, books etc. can shape sort and stack rings. Will fetch the correct pieces of his jigsaw if asked - for example 'O where is the dog piece?' He understands a lot and I have a feeling that he has a lot of words stored in his mind. Can use a fork to feed himself, but a spoon is hit and miss.

Lily311 · 28/02/2014 13:48

???? Details isles!

YellowWellies · 28/02/2014 13:50

Jonas:
loves dancing (he was proper headbanging to the Rolling Stones this morning) and selects music from my iPhone;
cuddles and kisses any sentient being in reach and says 'awwww';
can climb stairs, window sills, ladders, kitchen units;
'reads' books to himself;
can stack four cups / blocks;
races his cars saying either "brrm" or his version of "ready, steady, go!";
can feed himself with spoon and fork;
waves "hiya" and "byeeee";
insists on pressing light switches, train door buttons and zebra crossings and turning the fecking washer on (then applauding himself!!);
has about 20-5 words and 2 animal noises;
does the actions to "twinkle twinkle";
follows basic instructions;
can stand unsupported;
can fall off anything (see above);
can detect a hot drink and relaxing Mother at twenty paces;
shouts up the stairs for whichever parent is having the sleep in;
will do anything for crisps, except, so far, walk!

YellowWellies · 28/02/2014 13:52

Isles he's had two years since you fell pregnant to ask you that if he really wanted to. Not v romantic - shit you really are leaving errr I know what girls like - weddings!!!! Is this the last trick up his sleeve or is there more fuckwittage to come?

Thechick · 28/02/2014 13:59

StormyIsles he is such an arse. I don't understand how he can treat someone the way he has treated you and then casually ask you to marry him. He is a desperate desperate man. Thank goodness you are getting out.

ValiumQueen · 28/02/2014 14:00

Stormy nothing that man does surprises me now. Are congratulations in order then? Wink

ValiumQueen · 28/02/2014 14:01

What could top that? A proposal on TV? Plane across the bay with a streamer? Has he sent flowers to your work yet?
