Thanks for advice guys. And plonk I know you would never hun. That's why we luffs you innit? Just a quick one- there is some evidence that I found somewhere to say ibuprofen is a bad idea with pox. Calpol fine. No time to find it again and link to it, sorry. Also, calamine lotion is rubbish and no longer advised as when it dries it can make it more itchy. Try calamine cream, or if you've won the lottery we found virasoothe pretty good, even if it costs the same as the entire GDP of gribbia...

Plonkysaurus · 29/04/2014 10:49

Thanks for the advice Gerry, I'll stick to calpol from now on then. The calamine lotion seems to be working and the pharmacist also gave us piriton syrup to soothe the itching.

Don't know if you saw the posts (i imagine the start of term is probably hectic!) but a few of us are doing a mad mud run called Mudderella at the end of August. For some reason I think this'd be up your adventurous street! Up for it?

Aww plonky what a lovely positive post. A great way to start the day.

gerry watching the news last night scared me. All over the world including this country there is something going on. I wouldn't let my dh go without checking how safe it is first. Even if it was safe a month is a long time.

eco how are your hands this morning?

shattered how was your night?

We had a fab night. Ds went bed 6ish woke at 9pm for milk, a dummy return around 12 then slept until 4.30. After milk he slept until 6.30. I definitely needed that 4hr stretch. I stuck in doors waiting for a delivery. How boring.

Shatteredmamma1 · 29/04/2014 20:21

Gerry have you made a decision? Hope all goes well for you/him if he goes away.
Plonk Grin

Any I feel old too! In lots of ways....

yummy we had a ten hour sleep thanks (DS not me!) so hoping improvement sticks.....

stormy we never answered you re meal times. Breakfast at 6.30/7, milk at 8, lunch at 12, milk at 2, tea at 5, milk at 7 pre bed..should probably cut out the 2 pm milk but he likes it and sometimes refuses it if he's full.

Hmm what else...hope everyone else ok? DH has the footie on boo...

ecofreckle · 29/04/2014 20:21

Evening all. It was a high chair in garden type evening here. Lovely. Bit grey to start with this morning but we used this to our advantage and met friend at park. Now I have an Ecotod it's so nice to just sit and watch them explore as they wish. She and friend just sat digging in sand for half an hour whilst we chatted to an Israeli lady and a Thai lady. That felt unusually chilled. During both naps today I worked and that was ok. As of yesterday I am now self employed and quite motivated by that presently. I am facilitating some teacher training next week and with new ofsted framework and curriculum since I last did any I have to focus my brain. Quite hard! But I treated myself to some new work related books to make up for the dullness of Gove.

Sorry to ramble. Can you tell I am without dh?! It's nice to share the minute detail with someone. Sorry ladies!

Eczema going to get treated ahead of bed tonight. Was awake for ages. Any it sucks eh? Deep gashes across my knuckles that dry out overnight. Gets so I can't think of anything else. Yuck. Aveeno nor hemp cutting it at present. Moan moan moan! Sorry again.

Stormy I know you appreciated yawp, I caught myself using another similar word. Anyone else heard it used? Maunge or I suppose mornge? Meaning moaning.

I am a landlord and I'm afraid I look in the toilet!! I wouldn't say anything if it was lime scaley though so unsure of motive. I am very attached to the house. It's the house I bought on my own after wanker ex left. I totally renovated it, doing loads of work myself with guidance from neighbours and dad and books. It has lots of bare Wood and I like to see the tenants are treating it all with respect! Sounds silly really but it's a happy house. Dh and I met on the doorstep and he carried me over the threshold after we'd walked home on our wedding night. Soppy!

Yummy, is ds better now? That night you had sounds trying. But that was a relatively good one? Hoping the phase passes.

Poxy babies get lots of love from the flatlands. Sounds horrible for them.

Thanks rainbow and Betty for boob info. Ecotod doesn't really ask. I guess I could just not offer and see what cues I pick up on.

Doli that image of dd getting down and asking for sleep is sweet! Did it happen again tonight?

Plonky how was your day at home? Cabin fever? Is madiera your honeymoon? Sounds sunnier than lakes! It's nice to have something to look forward to like that. I'm looking forward to Puddletown and meeting shattered and maybe pud. And of course mud run which I need to sort out.

Brain blank now. And I have to get out of Bath that I'm sharing with a puy lentil. This has been irrationally bothering me. I ate dinner in bath. With a lentil.

ecofreckle · 29/04/2014 20:24

Don't think me odd. We used grey skies to our advantage because the park was super quiet with only four mummies in total. No scallywags.

Shatteredmamma1 · 29/04/2014 20:25

Cross post eco! Hope you've sorted the lentil. Have you tried hydromol or oilatum for the eczema? And you should have oilatum or similar in the bath as soap etc is so drying...
Is the new job ok? Meet up will be good Smile

Shatteredmamma1 · 29/04/2014 20:26

Oh and ps hope poxy babies improving quickly Smile

Plonkysaurus · 29/04/2014 20:59

Yes Eco staying in today has made me a little batshit! for want of a better word. I guess ds really needed the sleep though. Will be interesting tomorrow attempting to 'attend' a phone conference for an hour in the afternoon.

Park sounds like fun! Grey skies are fine, so long as it doesn't develop into storm without warning. Sounds like you had a nice day. I eat in the bah too! Apples and grapes are my bath time snack of choice. Mmm. However it does mean I get pips and stalks in the bath, but I it's probably good for exfoliating.

Makes me a bit uneasy when landlords are really attached to the house they rent - sorry! It's one of the major reasons I hate renting. I do not love the rose bush and resent maintaining it. She resents that every time I prune it I seem to kill it a bit more. And that what I thought was a big orrible weed in the garden is actually some kind of superb magical plant that I MUST take care of. Pfft. I may have had a blazing row with her over this when I was pregnant. DP is too hay feverish/asthmatic to garden, and I was in the throes of all day nausea. Very nearly rendered us homeless...

Anyway. No Madeira isn't our honeymoon; we're off to Dorset for a week immediately after nuptuals. I joked earlier that I love DP lots, but maybe is just Stockholm Syndrome? He did not find this funny.

OP posts:
dolicapax · 29/04/2014 21:56

Oh so it's me that's weird then is it. I'm a landlord, I have never once been even slightly tempted to look at the toilet Confused.

Gerry tough dilemma. Any progress with it? If it were me, to be honest I'd not be keen. Quadruple salary sounds epic, but really all you are looking at is a 3 month bonus out of the rest of DH's life. 3 months, out of, oh I don't know, another 30 years? It's nothing. I'd not risk my life over 3 months pay. Would you? So what it boils down to is realistically what are the risks? Does his company have extensive experience out there? What's their track record? What insurance and back up is in place if something goes wrong? Do they wade in themselves no expense spared to get people home, or do they sit back and wait for the government to slowly take action. Those are the things I'd want ironed out before I even considered it. Plus as Any said, a month is a long time to be on your own. You'll be exhausted.

Eco poor hands. I don't think I have eczema but I do get split bleeding knuckles. V sore. Don't laugh, but making pastry helps! How'd Ecotod feel about quiche for lunch?!

No naps again today.... I'm finding it tough. I get nothing done, and get no break. I had my mum on at me this evening that I should make 'big stews to last several days' (disclaimer: she's Irish. Her world revolves around beef stew), and I just wanted to scream 'when the h*ll am I going to do that?'.

On that note, I'm crashing for the night. I think madam will sleep. She must be exhausted.

Gerrythetootallgiraffeswife · 29/04/2014 22:38

Doli et al, you're right, of course. Except yes, I would do it. We could do with the money, and I'm a risk taker, I would love the opportunity to be honest. Security would be good, insurance would be extensive, worst case scenario, ransoms would be paid. The job is now vaguely lo

Gerrythetootallgiraffeswife · 29/04/2014 22:45

Oops. Looking like it won't happen. So I might not have to worry about it after all. I have told DH that of course I don't actively want him to go, that we would miss him, worry, love him etc, but that if he wants to I'm happy for him to go. So we'll see. I'm not worried about how hard it will be this end, I often do Monday to Friday on my own, and can always escape to my mums if I get particularly lonely or exhausted!

Plonk, forgot to answer re mudderella, looks fab but too pricey and probably too early for me, I won't be fit enough by august I wouldn't think, I've got to lose a load more weight before I can even start running!

Milk/food here: 7oz at 7am. Breakfast at 8.30 ish. Lunch at 12, 5oz milk at 2.30, dinner at 5, 7 oz milk at 7. Could probably cut afternoon milk but still feel it's preferable to a snack. Not sure why I think that... Naughty Gerry still doing all 3 of those in bottles and making no attempt to change to beaker. Those of you who do breakfast before milk, mind me asking why? Just unsure when we're supposed to cut milk right down to just bedtime? She really enjoys it and it's the only time she's still all day!

Shatteredmamma1 · 30/04/2014 06:22

Breakfast before milk gerry as otherwise I think he might not eat it. He wasn't a great eater generally and is just slowly improving. Loves his milk though! Yep slapped hand here too for three bottles but I figure he'll drop them eventually and save me the battle!!! Smile

Shatteredmamma1 · 30/04/2014 06:23

Oh and I think they are supposed to have about 10-14oz now, (or some of this can be cheese etc) I'm not planning on cutting down just yet.

Oody · 30/04/2014 06:41

Hi everyone, I'm still lurking and you've hit on one of my pet topics so drawn me in.
Meningitis B, this is what ds had, high risk groups are under 5s , late teens and over 60s. Not high odds of catching it but high odds of being damaged or killed by it if you do catch it. All mine are getting private vaccines when we can get them all well enough at the same time.
If dd3/ds haven't had cp by then we wil get those
too.

Plonkysaurus · 30/04/2014 08:31

Gerry no worries, I just wanted to make sure you'd not missed the invite.

Doli if you don't mind catching the pox maybe you should come up here and play with us! Grin seriously though, if by 8pm you've got the energy to eat anything more than peanut butter on toast I applaud you. My mum's not Irish but her advice would be to crack a bottle open. Having tried this approach I can attest that it does not work. Hopefully you'll both find a rhythm to your days that you can both work with soon.

Ood thank you for coming back and jogging my memory. I know two people who caught Men B in their teens and it was not good. I think this jab is a no brainer for us really.

Meals and milk here are kind of moveable. If he has milk between 4 and 6am he has breakfast at 8. If he has no milk we tend to do breakfast then a spot of milk - not much. The only other milk is at bedtime and can be as little as 2oz or as much as 6. He's over the moon with very, very weak squash during the day (refuses water and I refuse to turn this in to a battle) so I just make sure the give him cheese and Greek yoghurt with fruit to get the calcium in.
The best lunch time here is 11.45. If he's not napped prior to that we can usually get a good 1.5 hour nap out of him. Dinner at 4.30/5ish.

Sorry for my grumpy post yesterday. I think cabin fever is definitely to blame. We're off out on this grey morning for a good long walk. We need bananas, peanut butter and bread. Will try not to also buy croissants in the bakery.

OP posts:
StormyBrid · 30/04/2014 08:47

We don't do breakfast milk because it interferes with eating breakfast. On occasions where night time milk is needed (or 6am milk or whatever) it's just four flozzes of cows' milk. Not really big on snacks because I'm a bugger for them myself, as the size of my arse will attest. Cows' milk or water from a soppy cup generally gets rejected, so like Plonky we do weak juice. Fartypants seems happy with it. Formula still in bottles, I figure it's only at sleeping times and she'll drop them eventually. Be nice to find a way of doing bedtime milk before tooth brushing though.

There was a boy in the year above me at high school who died of meningitis B. Suppose I'd better investigate where to get that jab locally.

Charity shop yesterday went well. I didn't do anything wrong and I didn't get shouted at, so calling it a win. The man bought me flowers because he's proud I've taken the first step on the path to gainful employment. Very sweet, but a bit cheap - je bought Fartypants her own ukulele!

Plonkysaurus · 30/04/2014 09:13

Why on earth do you assume you'd do something wrong, Stormy? Or get shouted at if you did?

I get the impression you've not worked for decent people before.

OP posts:
StormyBrid · 30/04/2014 09:19

It's just one of those self esteem things, Plonk. I have very little faith in my own abilities. Largely due to upbringing I think - my dad was quite shouty, and also the type of parent who'd berate you for not getting an A* instead of congratulating you for getting an A. Well, I think my siblings got congratulated for As. But I was the clever one. Valuable lesson for us all as mothers in there. Be proud of what your kids can do, instead of focusing on what they can't.

yummychocolate · 30/04/2014 13:08

Just wanted to say good on you stormy. I really hope you enjoy volunteering. It was really nice that you got flowers too. Be proud of yourself!

Pudtat · 30/04/2014 19:33

For Stormy Thanks

Waves at Ood . God knows where we can get these jabs done privately, can't find anywhere in the SW! Gaah!

Still toying with mudderella idea.. Tis distance of location wot bothers me, but I'm seeing my sister on Friday and she lives near kenilworth. Might see if we could visit... Would be more doable from there and I'm already booked on holiday then anyway...

yummychocolate · 30/04/2014 20:14

ood I will look into this vaccine.

eco this was a good night for us but I can see how that can be someones bad night. I think I just have to admit that I have a ds who is a shit sleeper. It is putting me off having baby 2. 2 friends have said the toddlers didn't sleep through until 3yrs.

shattered did insomnia hit you again?

I have the most painful AF pains everand it has to be on the days I am working. I have raided dh's stash of chocolate. Considering he says he doesn't eat chocolate anyway he won't notice.

dolicapax · 30/04/2014 20:33

Stormy you rock! I've always said there was a someone worth something hiding in there, and there bl**dy well is. That charity shop is very lucky to have you.

Jabs, Oods thanks for your input. I found a private GP who does them through the local private hospital, so if you are struggling to find anywhere Pud you could do the same. Said GP doesn't have the vaccines in stock this week, but is going to call me when they come in. MetroMedical do have stocks - they're London and SE, but I am sure they could refer you on to associated companies.

As for us , well we've had a really good day. For once. It was so good, it almost included a nap... that is until the bstrd dog went mental at a pigeon and yelled his wrath at the entire neighbourhood, literally just as she dropped off. But I didn't care, because DH got a later train this morning giving me time to go for a 30 min run! Yay. I don't think I've moved more than a single muscle since February. Sadly this showed. Whereas once I could run a whole 10km without breaking a sweat, today a staggered less than half that and definitely needed a shower. Worse, the tops of my legs now wobble Confused. They've never done that before!

Also... wait for it.... today we had not one but two glazing firms on site. How about that. It's like buses I guess. You wait days for one, and then two turn up at once. Why two you ask? Well you probably don't, what with it being boring, but I will tell you anyway. Two, because the glaziers doing the roof, recommended a joinery firm to make the windows, and (this is the good bit) the joinery firm then used their rivals for the window panes! Diplomatic. Not. The unexpected upside, there seemed to be some sort of male pride competition going on out there, with each company trying to out do the other one, and both raising sneery eyebrows at the other's work behind their backs. Certainly kept me entertained. As did the view. I think team 1 had the other's pipped on speed and workmanship, but team 2, wow sexist comment alert Let's just say the diet coke man has nothing on those guys I hope they are back tomorrow

I am loving the toddly stage more than ever now, as today dolitoddle went to the back porch, picked up the end of the dogs' ball thrower, handed it to me, then grabbed my hand and literally dragged me round to the back garden to find the dogs, puffing and panting, and falling over in her haste. I love it that she loves the dogs and already knows how to play games with them Smile

Oody · 30/04/2014 20:45

pud we are going to Manchester which is about 3 hours from us as I can't find anything closer. Not exactly practical though

Pudtat · 30/04/2014 22:14

Hmmm. these people seem to be doing it in Exeter. Slightly nervous of having pfb stabbed by an internet random - all the chat about bmc stuff, do the medically minded amongst you think that's a good way of checking out someone's credentials?
