New thread ladies...

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Hmm. Well to my mind it's down to him to not go - his wife, his baby to protect. Talk to him and see if he's willing to give it a miss (particularly as you've paid and he hasn't!).

Gerrythetootallgiraffeswife · 24/04/2014 21:50

That's my thought too stormy, but I couldn't tell if that was just because I really want to go! The brooms! The ice! I'm so excited!

Shatteredmamma1 · 25/04/2014 06:49

Yes gerry up to him i think. Plus chance of you passing it on must be very slim. It sounds fun!!!

Interesting stormy. Sorry for being nosy. Hope the volunteering goes well, bet you'll enjoy it.

Shatteredmamma1 · 25/04/2014 06:52

Ps doli yes mini one cant go anywhere unless hes holding on to one, or preferably two objects. It's funny, especially as he's crawling and it sometimes makes him slip and then laugh!

StormyBrid · 25/04/2014 14:30

If anyone is still after lunch suggestions, we've just discovered pizza toast is a big hit. Toast one side of a slice of bread, put tomato puree, whatever topping you want, and grated cheese on the other side, and chuck it under the grill. Never seen Fartypants attack her lunch with such gusto!

dolicapax · 25/04/2014 14:40

Gerry another vote that it is up to him to take measures to protect his wife from the bug, not you. I assume he'll be responsible and bow out. I hope dd is feeling ok, as my memories of chicken pox involved much vomit.

On a related note, is anyone thinking of getting the chicken pox vaccine, and the other meningitis one done privately? Betty as our resident medical expert, is it something you'd recommend?

Excellent day here, as usual. The men with the glass turned up this morning, had a cup of tea, faffed about a bit and then left at lunch time because apparently 'they'd done all they could'. What they actually had done was sweet FA, but I let them off, on the basis it is Friday, or more officially POETS day, and I have yet to meet a builder who isn't a big supporter of that concept.

Biggest news for the day however is dolitoddle is actually asleep, and has been for nearly an hour. I am stunned, relieved, and grateful, although not necessarily in that order. The whole 'I will not nap in the day, so there ner-ner-ner-ner-ner' tack is getting old. I mean, I'm liking the 10hr plus at night, that's like heaven, but just a wee tiny nap in the day would be awesome too. Probably asking too much huh Grin

Plonky if you are up for a southern mud run, as well as a northern one... which is like two you realise don't you Grin, count me in. I'm not so sure I'll be asking Mr nice personal trainer man for tips though. Although he's just qualified for the world championships in a 12km hard man version of this, he somehow managed to cut his head open and damage his spine in the process. Whatever sure fire tactics he was using, I don't think I'm interested.

Right, I have 'time on my hands'. This is unheard of. I should be sitting somewhere going 'uhhhhmmmmm' and relaxing.

dolicapax · 25/04/2014 14:41

Stormy that's like posh cheese on toast innit. Tea is sorted. Thank you!

dolicapax · 25/04/2014 21:23

Me again. Jeeez even I'm bored of me... but in the absence of anyone else I thought I'd just post to say Stormy your pizza toast was a bit hit. With me too. I think it might have kicked cheese on toast off top of the the all time tea time favourite list.

Anypants · 25/04/2014 22:33

Oh yes stormy we're big fans of the pizza toast and also, for a little je ne sais quoi (?) we have pizza pitta. Same concept, even more middle class.

Gerrythetootallgiraffeswife · 25/04/2014 23:08

Ooh how did I forget pizza toast? I was so pleased with myself at 15 when I basically thought I had invented it!

By the way, curling - ice, brooms, and all that shouting, is AMAZING. I would literally spend all my time doing that if I had the hours in the day. Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeep!!!

Anypants · 25/04/2014 23:26

Love that you got a bull's eye Gerry! Hurrah for the pox Grin

Plonkysaurus · 26/04/2014 08:47

Doli most definitely up for a southern mud run - provided that I don't break down and cry part way through the Midlands one. And ouch, hope Mr PT Man recovers fast, what on EARTH was he doing?

Stormy Pizza Toast. Excellent. I'm going to attempt it on a croissant.

Gerry I always thought curling looked fun. It's basically Olympic Housework, so what's not to like?!

Eco Ah's yer showder duck? Hope you're not crying into an eclair everyday.

I met my best friend's 10 week old yesterday. She's delicious. I was fully prepared to swap the loud, grumpy, chatterbox Toddlersaurus for her - but then I held her. And it felt all wrong. So delicate and tiny. I tried to jiggle her like I used to with DS and she hated it. Gorgeous baby but too delicate for my dino paws.

Oh and I'm going to be an Uncle :D

OP posts:
ecofreckle · 26/04/2014 20:25

Plonky love, an uncle? Really? Tell us how so! Those ten week old tiddlies just seem to crumple into a jelly boned heap when you hold them don't they? No kicking to get down, no throwing the head back into what we call 'the banana', no scratching your eyeballs out and ripping your hair from its roots.

My shoulder is so much better thank you. Day three of diclofenac and I think that's made a huge difference. Doli, thanks for all the tips. Dh returned to the fold tonight so I'm in bath. and don't tell plonky but I just asked him sweetly to drive to the other side of the city to the awesome fish and chip shop for dinner

Gerry it seems you have an alternative career lined up for when being the top of your tree gets boring. I didn't even know you could just, like, head out to curl. How are the pox? Is she scratching?

Stormy thanks for lunch tip. Filed in my brain to try tomorrow.

Doli was it a fluke nap or is she making a habit of it? That'd be nice to add onto your ten straight hours. Think what you could do with an hour to yourself. You could probably finish your conservatory yourself. quicker than the builders

Really simple books with pictures and labels are flavour of the week here. Mega tedious to 'read' but she's obviously getting loads from it. Having read 'french children don't throw food' I'm once again making a concerted effort to speak to Ecotod as if she understands my every word. We're also labelling lots of her surroundings, verbally. This led me to think about the inevitable time, not too many months away, where she asks "what's that?" and points to her lady area. Have any of you with girls already adopted a name for it that you feel at peace with. Can't think here. I know this is a mn can of worms but wanted to ask you sane, moderate, friendly types. Thank you.

Argh! Look at the time. I promised dh and the chips I'd be down for half past eight. Better get washing! Happy weekend everyone.

Pudtat · 26/04/2014 21:07

Eco I don't have helpful names but had been wondering the same for DS. With recent ishoos Shock it's been on my mind. So thoughts on that welcome too Grin. (Esp hard given his name of course).

ecofreckle · 26/04/2014 21:17

I thought boys were easy! But yes pud, I see your dilemma. I guess he's got to know it is a willy as I'd imagine 95% of boys at nursery and school will use that term. Dh suggests 'dinkle' Grin

ecofreckle · 26/04/2014 21:17

Winkie

ecofreckle · 26/04/2014 21:20

Dh just shouted from the kitchen "cock wouldn't be right would it?" Er, no!

ecofreckle · 26/04/2014 21:21

Can we have a Saturday night tourette's like thread shouting our answers to pud's query??

yummychocolate · 26/04/2014 21:34

Willywoo Smile

ecofreckle · 26/04/2014 21:50

That's the spirit yummy! I have a friend whose baby is known as willywoo Shock

Pudtat · 26/04/2014 21:52

I am actually laughing out loud! I love you guys Grin

Plonkysaurus · 26/04/2014 22:01

Winkle.

Thankfully there's no seaside around here for 'winkle picking'.

My friends DDs call theirs 'farfalle'. Like the pasta. Apparently it's Italian for butterfly she's more of a nethun

StormyBrid · 26/04/2014 22:12

Names for bits? When I were a lass, they were willies and fannies. I vividly remember my sister and I going back on our word with our brother many a time, on the grounds that we'd had not our fingers, not our toes, but our fanny flaps crossed.

Unless Fartypants asks about specific parts, I'm likely to continue referring to her bits. Specifically girl bits as opposed to boy parts. I have lady bits, and the man has man parts. Already I find myself saying things like "please don't stick the boat up your bits, darling, it won't fit".

The thing I like particularly about Willy and fanny (and also dick, but that's a bit ruder) is that they're actually people names, albeit not commonly used these days.

somethingbeginningwith · 26/04/2014 22:38

It was tuppence when I was a wee one! And I remember me and my friend giggling uncontrollably because her mum called us 'tuppences'.
Angry
Willy, todger, winkle.

I love the turns this thread takes Grin

somethingbeginningwith · 26/04/2014 22:39

The frowny face was inadvertent. I'm not cross about being called a 'tuppence' Hmm
