Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Londoner · 18/07/2006 12:10

Hi again, ooh Twinkle, maybe you could be our April baby?
Just saw dd1 in sports day and was sooo sweet... decided I was exempt from Mums' race what with babe in arms and all, pretty glad actually as it was a fearsome sight with lots of very tense faces and braced bodies at the start line.... and it was fast! Kitty got a 2nd sticker in the straight race so was pleased.(phew!) Not that it matters of course.
Nova, have given E egg as cakes and also scrambled. I've heard the same about allergies though, and think they say give the white first when you introduce it? And obv to make sure it's thoroughly cooked..... although not to buggery. Not sure when they say to introduce it these days, sorry that's not much help is it..... Perhaps you could discuss with Health Visitor she might know.... although did they 'allow' you into the clinic/to see a HV in the end? Was so ing about all that. Oh, and here's the puschair, there are some interesting looking links at the bottom of the page too...although know nothing about this particular online shop.here
Diege! Glad to hear you're okay, and hope you have a great picnic!
Right off to get lunch before seeing ds2 in school play this afternoon.......

Londoner · 18/07/2006 12:11

Oh, meant to say........
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TWINKLE!
13 years, good going!

Londoner · 18/07/2006 12:15

......and ROFL at Rodeo's Jess crawling like 'decrepid tortoise', you're wicked! You are so funny woman! Sure she will be crawling like sleek panther v.soon.......

goldenoldie · 18/07/2006 12:31

Blimey - another bun-in-the-oven. At least I know what you are all doing when you're not on Mumsnet!Well done Nova.

Beks/Nova - the DTs are not crawling either (thank goodness). HV said their corrected age is a month younger cause they were 'officially' premature/born a month early.

Twinkle - snap - we had our 12 wedding anniversary last weekend. Did ask hubby how many years we have to be married before I get a decent present - 25 apparently............I pointed out that he might not live that long if he kept making those sort of jokes.

LilJ - how did the coffee afternoon go? What about the interviews? Are you back to work now?

ChaCha · 18/07/2006 13:07

Hello Golden - Is nice to see you post. Do you see anything of JJ? We haven't see her post in a while. How is work? Belated Anniversary Wishes - our 5th is coming up end of the month.

Twinkle - Do you need an invite to the group? Shall i send you one? Another happy anniversary...

I'm still not doing very well with home made recipes for LO. I am going to try him with chicken today, a chicken and sweet potato with apple recipe and then go from there. We must get onto fish but I don't know what to do with it. The recipes i have demand cheese and i won't give him dairy produce yet - have only goat's cheese and not really sure even when he is allowed that. I know my friend gives her DD aged 8 months egg, has been for a while.

Would be nice if some of you Londoners could make a day trip up here. We've got a lovely park, playground, coffee shops, restaurants etc. all around the one small area. Just a thought. I couldn't make that coach journey again i doubt especially not while i have the silly travel system.

Rodeo - Paddling pool sound lush. I should really go and do ours but haven't the energy...bad mummy! Might need to get the old gazebo out, maybe too hot for him, there is no shade in our garden come afternoon.

Have returned from clinic with blue notes today! Seems very strange. Am being referred to hospital to see consultant, something to do with having had a c-sec not long ago. Anyone know anything about this?

Right, will leave you all some webspace. Must lie down x

browniechick · 18/07/2006 13:38

Hey All - well, have been up since 5:30 this morning - poor T was too hot and couldn't get back to sleep so cried in the end I got up and took him downstairs, where it was (thankfully) a tad cooler! (DH naffed off back to bed - there will be some pay back though !)

Nova - gave Thomas egg for the first time on Friday - he had scrambly egg - he seemed to like it, and haven't noticed any adverse reaction. Ok, so he didn't eat all of it - was a bit unsure of the texture, but he had eaten enough for an army at nursery!

Chacha - Thomas has fish in whitesauce with veggies at nursery....just a thought for you? Also, I have given up trying to do recipes - he now has more or less what we have, but mashed up - so mince, leeks and green beans - he loved that! Last night he had jacket spud with a touch of cheese (only use the mild cheese for him though). He loves cheese (so does Mummy!) He also loves leeks, cheesy leeks (an AK recipe I think!?) he always has what we have for SUnday dinner - am also going to try some pasta and then some cous cous, either this week or next week. HTH? As he is a little one, I just have a look at what is in the fridge, steam or cook it, then throw it all in a bowl and blend it, portion it out, freeze as necessary. And when in a real fix - toast and jam, or marmite, or a sandwich with jam/cheese or marmite always goes down a treat - he just loves everything def got his Daddy's appetite

Best go, am "nipping" on whilst at work!!!!

Brownie

LilJ · 18/07/2006 14:37

Wow! Congratulations Nova!!!! That's very exciting news.

I still can't imagine having another one quite yet especially with Nate on the move now and wanting lots and lots attention all the time. I think it's just as well he's starting nursery fairly soon as I'm exhausted!! Anyway no chance of another one right now as I'm on the mini pill - which I am beginning to hate as AF seems to be a pretty constant visitor these days - going to doctors to discuss alternatives as I can't take regular pill as it ups my blood pressure - arghhh!

GO - I was in the dentists (which I didn't realize was free if you have a baby) when you rang so I'll give you a ring when I have a chance to catch up. Any news from JenJam? I don't know if she's signed Finn up for nursery at the same place that Nate is going, if so we'll probably bump into each other at the parents intro day.

Am up for two good jobs and expecting at least one job offer shortly and will hear more about the job I really want tomorrow when they have completed all the second interviews. I'm actually getting very excited about going back to work. Although I know I'll miss Nate horribly, I feel that we're both ready for work/nursery.

Well got to start building endless towers of stacking cups for Nate to knock over. He's just had his lunch - I tried Hummus for the first time with him and although he didn't exactly gobble it down he did seem to quite like it ... I'm very confused about salt intake - is it that they can't have any salt or only tiny bits when it's unavoidable? And I'm holding off on eggs as neither me or my DH eat them and so I'm thinking he'll probably not like them too, but could be very wrong and I'm struggling to find breakfast food he'll eat - it's no to porridge, weetabix, muesli, etc.

Anyway what was supposed to be a quick check in has now turned into an epic post! Just quickly on the anniversary front, we celebrated our 9th anniversary this year - I gave him tickets to see The Who in Hyde Park. He gave me? Nothing!!!! He completely forgot about it! So I'm expecting diamonds for my birthday .

Love to everyone!

J & N xx

tessasmum · 18/07/2006 17:06

Another poorly baby here!
He woke up yesterday morning wearing a snot face-pack and proceeded to sneeze out what looked like the contents of a bucket of green slime for the rest of the morning
Has slept a lot today but my t-shirt looks like a race-track for snails Where does it all come from??

L&S - I couldn't get bold thing to work either! Used to be able to but seems to refuse to co-operate now!

Hello to LilJ, GO and Alfiesmum

Nova - Ash has been having egg for a while. I've done hard-boiled mashed up with yoghurt, scrambled and in quiche. I did watch for a reaction as I saw it happen with a friend's baby a few years ago but Ash was fine. Friend's baby came out in big white blotches but was able to tolerate egg by 18 mths when her mum tried again.
Then again I may not be the best person to listen to - we were out over most of the w/e and ate picnic stuff for most meals. Don't know what AK would say but Ash tried, and loved, ham, M&S posh houmous, porkpie (DH gave him that NOT me!), choc crispie cakes, ice-cream (not for the first time!), grass and leaves

Talking of which, I'd better get the dinner on!

novadandypowder · 18/07/2006 17:41

I knew you'd come up with some sound advice TM, was waiting for your thoughts on egg! lol at snail race track.

I can't believe it, last time I didn't really show until around 20wks, and already I'm finding my trousers are tight and tummy is rounding. Might have to follow up BoB's shopping tip

Tex111 · 18/07/2006 18:27

Hi guys, just passing through it seems. These two are running me ragged this summer.

Had to stop in and say congrats Nova!!! Fantastic news. As for egg, another thing on Rosie's list of foods she can't have until she's two and can't remember what I did with Tobes. I do remember the first time he had peanut though. I gave him a PB&J sandwich while sitting in the GP's car park. Just in case. Hope you're feeling well and let me know if you're interested in the Marco Sky L (sounds like some kind of spaceship). I can give you both pluses and minuses.

Have I heard something about a meet-up this week. Beks mentioned there might be one tomorrow? If it's morning or early afternoon I'd love to come.

Londoner, so fantastic hearing about all your activities with the children. T starts school next year and I can't wait to get involved in it all. I think I've been waiting my whole life to get here!

Hi to everyone else too! Must go sort out some dinner now. Sister is here and it's fantastic but another person in the house makes such a difference. Sis is a stage/set designer working in London this summer and I'm loving all her stories. She was buying dildos in Soho for props last week (I swear she's not doing porn, really really ). She even had to spray paint a dildo gold to be a porn award for one scene! Then she went to a play and had drinks with Rosamund Pike! My favourite actress. Nikki was a very good sister and risked looking very uncool by getting me an autograph.

Hope you're all well!

ChaCha · 18/07/2006 18:43

Anyone have any reviews on this:

Graco Pack 'N' Play Sport Playpen - Olympic

have a look at this

goldenoldie · 18/07/2006 19:38

Hi Chacha - yes, I do keep in touch with JJ. She is off on hols with Finn and some girlfriends at the mo.

I tried the DTs on a couple of fish recipies - they were not keen. They love dairy tho - anything cheesy is lapped up and they love plain yoghurt with fruit too.

Like Brownie - I don't do recipes either, most of the time the DTs just have what we have, I just make an extra portion, minus salt or heavy seasoning and freeze it for them to eat the next day or so.

LilJ - Think JJ has gone for the nanny rather than the nursery, but I'm sure she will update you herself when she gets back.

Good luck on the job. What area will you be working in? Maybe we could do one of those 'power lunches'! Give me a ring.

Tessa - grass and leaves are a bit hit with the DTs too!

BEKsmum · 18/07/2006 19:39

Hi ya

Tex good to see you, you obviously got my reply! are you up for some play sessions during the holidays - 6 weeks is going to be a nightmare!!!

I think the meet up fell through and thinking about it we'd better give Bob a wide berth this week, as although T will be on day 20 of having come in contact with the cp & it looks like we've swerved it this time Ben didn't come out for 21/22 days so I think it best not to risk it.

Happy anniversary to all, dh and I will have been together 13 years next month and we celebrated 8 years married in March. Doesn't time fly when you're having fun ironic!!!

Tessasmum lol at snot face pack, and snail race track, think those will slip nicely into my vocabulary Hope Ash feels better soon.

GO good to see you, bet you're glad the twins aren't crawling, if they were mine I'd have to weight one down so they only crawled one at a time - bet your house is well child proofed already isn't it, with two to watch go in opposite directions.

LilJ good to see you too, good luck with the jobs, hope you get the one you really want.

Nova perhaps you've been blessed with twins !

Twinkle hope we get to see some photos of Josh soon.

Chully always ask on here, we're better informed than NHS Direct most of the time

Londoner glad Kity enjoyed sports day, well done to her on her 2nd place, bet she was well pleased.

Right that was supposed to be a quick post - yeah right, hope everyone else is well, sorry if I haven't mentioned you. Beks

BEKsmum · 18/07/2006 19:42

Londoner sorry that should have said Kitty obviously

novadandypowder · 18/07/2006 20:52

Tex - would definitly appreciate your views on the double buggy.

Beks - please don't even joke about that one

twinkle1 · 18/07/2006 20:55

errr
chacha where do i look for the invite???
I know im having a thick phase
twinkle

Chully · 18/07/2006 21:52

Hi,

I'm interested in the 'egg' info going on here - I have been too afraid to try ds with it yet, but have been wanting to, so I think I may be brave at the weekend!

I have questions on other food:

  1. toast - I know I can give ds toast now, but what sort? We tend to eat wholewheat - is that too much for his digestion? Does it have to be white?
  2. cheese - I give him loads of things with cheese sauce (cooked) which he loves, but when can I just hand him a lump of cheese from the fridge to eat?

Tessasmum, hope ds is less snotty tomorrow!

Hope you all get a decent night's sleep in this heat! I'm off to bed now, since Jonty was up half of last night screaming. However, I've spotted the start of a tooth, so at least I know what was causing it! (He's been looking ridiculous wandering around furniture without a tooth in his head, so this might make him look less daft!)

Cheers,
Chully

ChaCha · 18/07/2006 23:24

Twinkle - No it's me who's having the thick moment, don't worry, duh! Send me an email ([email protected]) so that i can note your email address and send you a direct invite. Sorry about that

Hope everyone's well. That sounds nice for JJ, haven't been on holiday for ages, will not be able to make end of year holiday abroad as planned but hoping we can go September instead - here's hoping!

Cannot eat in the evenings anymore - bad mistake. Sicky little me is off to bed - God let it rain!!!!

Nighty night all x

twinkle1 · 19/07/2006 08:17

thanks chacha
have sent email
twinkle

ChaCha · 19/07/2006 08:40

Hi Twinkle,

Invite sent

Very, very hot here already. Feels like midday and not yet 9am. Am heading out early to get a cheap Gazebo, our old one is busted and i fear it's too hot for the LO to be in PP with no shade.

Hope you all survive the heat. Bye for now x

Tex111 · 19/07/2006 09:16

Hi all! Sweltering here already. Think we'll be escaping to somewhere with AC today. Maybe Bluewater. Any excuse.

Nova, as for the Marco...

Good points: Very lightweight and easy to fold (umbrella fold) compared to other doubles. Baby is in the back closest to me which I like. The back seat reclines almost flat so can be used when baby is quite small. About the same size as a regular stroller so can fit through doors, maneuver fairly easily and go on public transport. Comes with a good removable hood and raincover. Front seat has a removable wide strap that goes between the legs. We remove it for Tobes but put it on and Rosie can sit in the front. Handles are adjustable.

Bad points: Shopping basket is so small I don't know why they bothered. Front seat is in a fixed position but I think that's true for all tandems. I've heard that the handles can be a bit high but we're both fairly tall and they're fine for us. A bit longer than other strollers when folded and we have to remove to wheels to put it in the boot, but they pop off and on quite easily. Wheels are plastic, foam or pneumatic would be better. The framework of the front chair is exposed and Rosie has gotten her toes caught in it a few times. I've started tucking a little blanket into the back of the chair and it's fine but they should really improve this.

Our model is the 2005 one. I really dreaded the double stroller and was looking for a bargain. I've seen the 2006 model and they've made some improvements. We really love it overall. I've taken the kids on the train and underground in it on my own with no problems and that's basically what I wanted it for. Very good for days out, in restaurants, shopping, etc. I think Mothercare is doing their own version now called the Hudson or something like that. Haven't seen the Marco in the shops but you could give the Mothercare version a testdrive and see what you think.

OK, off to make some more cold drinks. Hope you're all keeping cool!

Tex111 · 19/07/2006 09:22

It's the Hoxton at Mothercare (I was close!). The other general drawback about a tandem is that Rosie is in a very good position for hair pulling and head kicking in the back. Already had to intervene a few times!

Rodeo · 19/07/2006 10:51

Oh wow I can't keep up! Just a quick post as I'm in need of sustenance - I've got a midweek hangover, was out with toddler group ladies last night. Good night, although ended up in the Legion(!) til 1am!
Tex, LOL at you post on your sister! So that's who's Rosie's named after!
Hope the poorly babies are getting better, LOL at Tessasmum's snail race t-shirt
Nova - LOL (I'm laughing out loud alot this morning) at twins, I'd be brill! I know 3 mums recently who've got 3 kids under 18mths due to 2nd set being twins! Wonder if it's due to being super fertile after baby?
LilJ Good luck with the job today!
Jess is having egg and loves it, I sometimes make her 'egg in a cup' for lunch, which is just buttered bread cut up into teeny squares with a mashed up poached/boiled egg in a cup (obviously)with a little milk to loosen it up. I do them softish too so the yolk is still a little runny in the middle. I think introduce a little at a time and watch for any reaction
Chully, J has little thin strips of buttered toast with whatever bread we have in, and has little strips of cheese too, I just stand by in case of choking - which she does alot. Choked on a biscotti in Asda the other day, strapped into baby seat, with an audience of old ladies! GO, J loves dairy too - although it's in the blood! Give our love to JJ
Well done Kitty on your 2nd
Anyway, starting to feel worse.....think I need some bacon.....speak later x x x
