Rodeo - does that mean I'm allowed to lol at your hangover? I couldn't be doing with that on a day like today (melting emoticon)

Chully - have been giving noo chunks of cheese since 6 months, she inhales them . She especially loves the dairylea strip cheese. As for bread, wholemeal is fine and 'they' say to avoid white as it's refined not wholegrain, but I know a lot of people on here would say balls to that! We give noo sunflower and pumpkin seed bread as thats what we have.

Rodeo · 19/07/2006 11:16

(((((MORNING RODDERS)))) [shouts very loudly]

Have LO in just his nappy today but problem is he wants to take it off all the time! Keep finding him sitting/lying with one side hanging off...

WEll, he can finally crawl too! Just started this morning, DH shouted me to come upstairs and I found LO crawling towards one of DH's wires on the futon, it was so lovely, sort of like a dying man trying to make it over to an oasis in the desert, he is certainly not 'off' yet, very chilled crawler so far, LOL

I am okay on the breakfasts, make DS fingers of toast with mashed banana as a topping, give him yoghurt topped with fruit or just simple fruit purees.

How u feeling today Nova?

browniechick · 19/07/2006 12:44

Hello! Can't believe it is still so hot!
We have had anothersort of milestone this morning - went into T's room around 6ish this morning - to find him sitting up, legs causally through the bars of the cot, hands on the cot rail, peeping over the top looking all sheepish and cute - we put him to bed without his sleeping bag last night, cos it is just toooo hot! So he has obviously realised that he can now pull himself to a sitting position! Bless him! Am now developing the eyes in the back of head!
Chully - Thomas has wholemeal bread/toast (mainly cos that's what we have) and also has cheese sandwiches and also thin slices of cheese - which he loves! I am just using mild cheddar at the moment, but he loves it

Well done to Kitty on her 2nd place !

Rodeo - ooh, how's the head now? Not good in this heat!?

Well, hope all poorly ones are on the mend, all pg ladies are keeping cool and well, and Hello to all others not already mentioned!

Brownie

browniechick · 19/07/2006 12:46

Oh yes - and just want to have a self-absorbed, proud moment......
Was presented with my 10 year long service award last night (for being a leader in the Guide Association!) can't believe it's been 10 years!
Anyway, wanted to share that with you all!

Brownie

Londoner · 19/07/2006 13:15

Hi everyone,

........Phew ain't it just!

Congrats on the award Brownie, you must be so chuffed. We are v.proud of you.

Great meal ideas everyone, thanks! Also while on the subject of eggs and bread, E loves french toast or 'eggy bread'.....bread soaked in egg and milk and then fried in butter.... yes dairy fan here too Rodeo. ChaCha, lunchtime I tend to give E some bread & cheese in slices and some soft fruit like chopped grapes or plum, yoghurt for pudding mixed with jam or honey. Then dinner is the hot meal of the day... pasta in sauce mashed up or maybe chicken /fish & veg. I don't worry much as feel milk is still main food at present...esp in this weather!
Chully, yes we give brown although not wholemeal as think this too harsh/abrasive on a young gut....perhaps this is what you're asking about? Have heard that things very high in fibre are not good for young children as they hurry food through their system too quickly so there isn't time for their bodies to absorb all the nutrients.... spinach was mentioned too.

Tex, hope you have a nice cool day at the mall!

ChaCha, BoB and Nova hope you're all feeling well..... sorry to hear about evening sickness ChaCha.

Hi Beks, Diege, Golden, Tessa, LilJ JenJam and everyone!

Londoner · 19/07/2006 13:17

Rodeo - thought I'd said hi... hope you feel better after your sarnie, yum!

Londoner · 19/07/2006 13:47

Oh hi Twinkle how sweet!

ChaCha, meant to say CONGRATS TO ZAYN ON CRAWLING! How cute, please post pics!

ChaCha · 19/07/2006 13:53

Yes, big congrats Brownie, that's just great!! Little T will be very proud of his mummy
LOL at his sitting up in cot this morning, woah! Cute and sheepish - great description, had me grinning away.

Have closed all downstairs curtains, got the fans whirring away and filled LO's bath tub with cool water and plonked him in for some play and cool down time. Was quite shocked to find him grabbing on to top edge of bath trying to launch himself up It must be their age, I had a panic pants moment ... also had a panic pants moment when he choked on too much water and was looking at me with a kind of 'help mum' face...

I have really found it beneficial reading up on everyone's cooking methods for the LO's. I have noted some of them down. Was interested to hear of the honey in yoghurt as DH has been suggesting this for a while and i've been refusing. I think we will try it then, is all honey the same btw? No particular kind?

Is rice okay? And how should i go about making it for him?

I have no desire to do any housework at all today or pack or cook or do anything....

Chully · 19/07/2006 16:19

Hot, hot, hot!

Went swimming with ds this morning (have taken a few days off work) and the pool was absolutely with packed with parents and babies/toddlers trying to cool off!

Brownie - congrats! I was a brownie/guide for years, and loved it!

Thanks all for the info on the food - I'll be trying ds with cheese and toast very shortly! Londoner, yes - the fibre in the wholemeal was my concern, so I think we'll start with plain old brown bread and see how it goes. I was interested in what you said about spinach - I've been feeding ds spinach for a couple of months and he seems fine, so perhaps we've just been lucky. (I have also been feeding him chickpeas (with bacon) recently, which he loves, but I know they're also high in fibre, so only give him small amounts...)

Anyway, off to refill the paddling pool - ds will have to fight dh and I for space!

novadandypowder · 19/07/2006 16:20

Chacha - all the mags/books say no honey before 12 months, but think runny honey is the one to give if you're going to. I'm gorging myself on food at the mo in anticipation of the sickness.

Good tip about eggy bread Londoner, had forgotten about that, a good into to egg for noo.

tessasmum · 19/07/2006 16:49

Afternoon all.

Am trying to type quietly as Ash asleep on my lap. Its about the 5th attempt at a 'morning' nap but he keeps coughing and waking humself up

ChaCha - I just started adding rice to pureed veg ages ago to give a bit of texture. Tessa eats loads of the stuff so I just added some of hers.
I'm afraid poor Ash gets whatever bread we have (usually white when DH does the shopping and brown when I do it!) We also never really bothered with mild cheese for either of them - we have mature cheddar and so do they. Tessa has been a bit of a cheese fiend from the start and her 2 favourite meals involve brie and goats cheese Saying that she was eating olives by about 10months though she only liked the garlic stuffed ones. She would chew round the olive to get at the garlic, wolf down the garlic and hand you back a half chewed olive!

Right, baby slept for 40 mins in my arms, awake again now so paddling pool beckons

GarfieldsGirl · 19/07/2006 18:31

Hi all, far too hot, yes I am complaining! No sleep at all last night. Sean was unbelievably hot, so had him in just nappy, but I did see 2 very white lumps under his gums this morning and he has a very 'notty nose too today. Every time I drifted off, baby over the road started up which was very confusing.

Hope all the poorly LOs are on the mend.

Well done to Kitty on her 2nd place.

Well done to Brownie on your award.

Hows the head Rodeo?

Good luck with the job apps LilJ.

Sean has mature cheddar lumps, white bread, haven't yet tried him with egg as was unsure when they could have it, so DP can make him some scrambled egg tomorrow (can't stand the stuff myself, and far too scared to cook it (unless in a cake))

Congraulations to all of you who have recently celebrated anniversaries or are about to.

Nova - I started showing with Sean very early on, was in mat clothes by 9wks, and a definite bump by 11wks. I didn't show with Owen until 34wks.

Our news on baby front - DP was talking to his dad the other day, explaining to him which car we had. FIL must have asked why we got the Scenic not Espace, DP said 'because we don't need a 7 seater....well not yet anyway'. Just got to get this thing out of my arm, may be sooner than expected though if fortnight long AFs continue and killer headaches in between.

Hello everybody else!!

GarfieldsGirl · 19/07/2006 18:34

meant to say ChaCha, I have read very good reviews on the play tent thingy-ma-dooby. Can't remember where though, sorry not that much help. It does look very nifty though!

GarfieldsGirl · 19/07/2006 18:50

me again...jst remembered this (bad mummy) from seeing another thread title.

I changed Seans nappy earlier and there was a pinkish/reddish bit on it, not sure if its blood or not. Its at the front of the nappy, so has come out with wee. I've been checking his nappy regularly since and theres no more sign of it.

Don't want to rush off to docs for nothing, but don't want to sit back and do nothing. The age old quandary!

I have kept hold of the nappy just in case, so I can thrust it in front of docs face if necessary, but was wondering if anyone else has had this in a nappy or what would you do if you found this in a nappy?

Rodeo · 19/07/2006 20:11

Evening,
Well I'm getting used to this heat! Dare I say enjoying it?! Head is much better now and good job as had a busy day, Joe's leaver's concert, Bella's sports day, mum & sister visiting. Early night tonight (yeah right!)
GG, hmmmm, not sure what to say on nappy incident, though think I would sit tight. Maybe ring NHS direct, although they'll probably suggest A&E y'know what they're like!!
I've not started with honey either, just the word 'botulism' scares me to death and I'm not even sure what it is! (not sure if grin emoticon is quite appropriate!)
Well done little Z on joining the crawl along gang
Diege, how are you doing with the papers? Hope you're managing to come up for air every now and again!
Brownie, well done on your award! It's so cute when they dangle their podgy legs through the cot bars
My pizza's ready, and want to watch the Big Cat programme so speak later x x x

Londoner · 20/07/2006 09:33

Hello all,

Hi Rodeo, glad you're feeling better. How was Joe's concert? Was that 1 box of Kleenex or 2.........? And what about Bella's sports day, did she enjoy it? Could your kids see you in the audience? Cooor, must be so nice to have mum and sister over.
GG, hi! Lol at you being scared of scrambled eggs, you funny woman! at red in nappy, can you ring your GP? Alot of GPs offer a call back service these days for things you're not sure about, might be worth ringing up and seeing if you can discuss the nappy worry with them? Can't think of what it might be unless Sean had a mosquito bite or something, but I expect you would have noticed that. Any sign of those teeth yet? Hope you had a better night's sleep last night..........
Ooh, exciting that you're thinking of another baby.... if Twinkle covers April you could be May or June? Good luck with Norplant (I think that's what you mentioned) removal.
Diege...... we miss you!
Tessa, lol at snail tracks on your top, such a good description! I hope Ash is feeling a bit better today? Lol at Tessa and the garlic olives, yes mine have all been olive fiends too, think children really like strong savoury flavours don't you?
Oh, remembered another thing I do with eggs for the baby inspired by a long trek around Turkey when I was a teenager, a dish called menemem (sp?) which is basically cooked fresh tomatoes, herbs and garlic and olive oil then scramble the eggs into it....... oh, it's so delicious...... even without the traditional hot chilli peppers.....
ChaCha, about the playpen, looks good but I would be inclined to opt for a mesh sided travel cot for a playpen as baby can sleep in it on holidays/at Grandparents/when you visit friends for dinner for many years to come? Borrowed friend's travel cot for our holidays for years and was great as an indoor and outdoor playpen under a shady tree or with a sheet pegged over the top..... hth.
On the honey front, yes sorry, I know advice now is not to give it under a year, but I do give only pasteurised honey and have used it for all the others at under a year and I just think it's such great stuff.......... would love to get hold of some local stuff to help with kids hayfever but suppose the nearest I'd get would be Kent honey.
BEKs, any spots your way?
Hi to everyone else, right, off to watch ds2 sports day now...

LilJ · 20/07/2006 09:42

Just a quick post as off for final swimming lesson this morning.

Last night whenh I put him to bed I was listening on the baby monitor and he was making a lot of noise, but it wasn't crying just like he was putting a lot of effort into something. THen he started to cry so I went up and opened the door to find my little boy beaming at me standing up holding onto the side of the cot. So he's now not only crawling at an alarming speed, but climbing as well! I wouldn't bet that in a few weeks time he'll be opening cabinets and pouring himself G&Ts - only joking!

ChaCha - we have the Graco Sports PLay Pen. Haven't used it outside yet (too hot and our house is actually quite cool inside). He enjoys it for short periods of time and we're going to try and use it as a travel cot when we go to States next week as it breaks down to quite a small size. It's certainly more friendly than the playpens with bars and more spacious than a travel cot.

Well gotta run off for swimming.

J xx

LaylaandSethsmum · 20/07/2006 09:58

Morning everyone.

Rodeo, glad you're better now!I can't cope with hangovers and the kids anymore!!

Its raining here today and loads cooler thank god but i think its dues to get hot again by monday.Mind you shouldn't grumble really!

Seth was wingeing in his cot this morning so finally dragged myself out to see to him and he was sitting up! This is a first for him and the cot is still in the high position but DH will have to move it down tonight. He must have heaved himself up on the bars as he can't yet do it when hes just on the floor!

Just got 2 days left at nursery for Layla! Shes's not bothered at all but I am really sad I just know i'll be a blubbering wreck on sept 5th! Her bestest friend is leaving to go to another school aswell, she knows this but I don't think she realises the permanence of it yet!

GG Wow thinking of a 3rd already!! As i've said before I couldn't cope with 2 very close in age ( unless I had to of course)so good luck and kep up posted.

Its our wedding anniversary on saturday , 7 years!! Going out for a meal with my bro and his girlfriend to celebrate, can't believe it is 7 years! But i was a child bride!

xxx

ChaCha · 20/07/2006 10:46

Hello everybody,

Thanks for feedback on playpen. I am reluctant to get the more traditional type with bars - don't like them even though the babydan has been recommended by quite a few people i know. Will need to buy one very soon, there is no longer a safe niche in the house and the door bouncer is a big no-no since he bumped his head on the door frame!

GG - Any news on the GP front? Noticed a tiny, tiny spot of blood on LO's nappy a while back but it had come from a sore area as a result of my giving him the blueberry puree. Hope you get through to someone and is nothing to worry about. So a possible number three then? Hurray!! You better get busy then, we need to fill the calendar dates, he hee!

L&S - Happy Anniversary There seems to be lots of us in July. Ours is just over a week away, a few days after DH's b'day so have no idea of what to get this year. I've seen him looking at sat navigation (way out of my budget) and a dinky little helicopter that we can take up the mountain and fly...big kids that we are! Of course DS will love it...he hee!! They actually have it on special offer so might have to do that.

Looking fwd to weekend away, hope the weather is just as nice there although i am guilty of moaning about it..oh well...enjoy sports days and all other activities.

p.s. Londoner - that dish sound lovely. We have something similar, you can find it in Tunisia too, i also like it with the chillies. x

twinkle1 · 20/07/2006 10:54
