Weaning question:

When giving your baby meals, do you plan their food times around convenient times for you? Or do you give them meals when you have yours?

It's just in our house, breakfast is when you can grab it - I'm not a breakfast person tend not to bother with it. I was planning on giving O his at around 9. Once DP finishes work for 3 months next week, there will not be any need to take O on the school run as we will both be off, and then by July no more school runs. DS1 will be walking to school from september!

Lunch, well, it varies again, but around 1pm is usual. I was thinking of giving O his around 12.45 as he often naps around 1pm.

Dinner we have very late really, due to work it has often been 7pm, sometimes a bit later when we eat. A bit late for O, as he seems to be ready for bed between 7.30-8pm. So I was thinking of aiming for 5pm, but this means he won't be eating with us... is that an issue? He won't really be having breakfast with us, or dinner. Just lunch.

And he's awake.

Just back from seeing the nurse at my surgery. Went due to my ingrowing toenail which repeatedly gets infected mainly because I repeatedly play the amateur surgeon to cure it I was last there 3 months ago for the exact same reason and promised the nurse that after the infection had cleared, I would see the GP to try and sort the underlying problem.

Obviously I didn't see the GP, so here we are 3 months later. I went in and said I was embarrassed and guilty I hadn't followed the advice, and then I got my bollocking. But it wasn't for not following advice, it was for "being a mum and doing that thing mums do" ie putting self last and only seeking help when it was really, really bad. I got told in no uncertain terms that not putting myself higher up my list was not sensible and not just for me, but because if I got really unwell then how precisely was that helping my family, hmmm?

I felt suitably chastised, but also thought that there is a lesson there that does not only apply to self inflicted small infected cut on toe.

I have a similar weaning question to Detective.

How do you time giving solids around their milk feeds. I am conscious of making sure that his milk intake doesn't drop as it is low enough as it is. So I don't want him to eat so much food that he doesn't want his milk. Equally, he probably won't want solids if he is full on milk

I am planning to start by introducing lunch so he can eat when I do, followed by breakfast and dinner last. Does that sound ok?

Detective for what its worth, to me it seems fairly normal for children to eat dinner earlier than their parents.

What is with this sudden guilt thing?!

Madam DP had his ingrowing toe nails sorted about 8 weeks ago. He left them for well over 18 months. He would cut them out, constant infections, would scream if anyone went near his toes. Was an absolute nightmare. Culminated in stubbing foot on dog while holding Oscar. Not good. Made him go to GP. He was in constant agony but did nothing about it!

Anyway, best thing he's ever had done. Was annoying for him having to soak his feet and re-dress them every night for 6 weeks.

But worth it.

detective my DH has a similar frustration with me. I know, I know. Must get it sorted.

yw 6 months last major growth spurt. A lot of people have increased feeding then it steadies off.

I am giving bottle at 7ish breakfast about 8.45 (usually porridge/fruit purée) pushing the next feed back to 11-11.30, then offering lunch if he's awake (just finger food) at whatever time he's awake. Today I'm not. He's still sleeping. Then bottle at about 3, dinner either 5 or 8pm depending what were doing, bottle at 6.30, bottle at 10pm. I'm guessing the 3 and 6 bottle will combine soon as he takes on more food/water (not tried that yet) as his lunch gets bigger. I'm hoping his bedtime will get earlier or hell bring his last bottle forwards. I actually have no idea how it will pan out!!!!

madam I put off having mine dealt with for 2 years, then made the really fucking stupid mistake of watching the procedure as a student, during which I fainted due to a total dislike of fingerrs/toes/nails in general. I then waited another 2 years. I had one pair of shoes I could wear. Finally succumbed and have had not one jot of trouble since, bloomin; marvellous wee op unless you watch them do it

I was sat downstairs listening to music while Oscar slept in the cot. As one track ended I heard crying from upstairs. But nothing on baby monitor. On inspection it appears the baby unit has failed. Assuming fuse, but will need to get under cot to get at it.

Stupid fucking thing. Good job it wasn't the evening when the TV was on or I might not have heard him. I didn't have the music on loud, and I couldn't hear him over it. Not good.

He can't have been crying for long though as it was a 3 minute track.

He's now back asleep, but downstairs in the car seat.

I've forgotten everything Horsey. Must start writing things down for O!!

I wish there was a way to get all my posts in one place, from these threads, so I could read them and put a timeline together for things O has done. These threads will contain them all, with dates. For my poor forgetful memory.

I've looked up my posts but it was a waste of time, nothing is in date order, was a mess trying to go through them.

Sigh.

Lo is 6 and a half months. We don't have a strict routine with bf or with solids. I think I've read that at this stage it's about getting them used to having different tastes and textures rather than an actual meal so I'm feeding H with milk first and then giving solids a bit after. He has lunch at about 1ish or after his first nap and dinner at 6ish and usually we have lunch at the same time but its not a hard and fast rule. We don't have dinner at the same time.

chick I tried that way but he won't eat after his bottle and is too agitated for me to feed him in the middle. So I try to feed an hour or two after his bottle.

detective would be good!!!! I filled out some of the firsts in the red book. Made most of it up as I couldn't remember!!!

Oh he's started saying da da! He just babbles allllllllll day long.

Right I've set up the monitor in his room. He's going in tonight. I have the angle care one. I've tested the motion sensor. It works. Anything else I need to do???? I've turned it off now. Oh I need to put batteries in for power cuts!!!

LO has a new noise...it's loud!

In terms of weaning and milk, ive worked his meals round his usual nap and milk ties. So he has milk 6.30am, breakfast 7.30am, milk 9.30 am, lunch 12pm, milk 12.30pm, milk 3.30pm, dinner 5pm and milk 6.30pm and bed at 7ish. Works like this ish most days. He naps at 8am, 10.30am and 1ish and 4.30pm.

At the moment LO is having a meal (veg) early lunch and a snack (fruit compote) later in the afternoon. I am going to introduce breakfast next week, and an evening meal probably the week after, or possibly next week too, when I will start introducing meat and fish. Breakfast will be toast soldiers or porridge depending on my energy levels. I am not too fussed about breakfast though for the moment, I prefer her to drink milk.

I will also be mushing fruit into natural yoghurt once the berry season starts in a month or so (though, just a reminder, keep an eye out for allergic reactions to berries particularly strawberries).

Right, sorted some clothes out. Moved some Pre-pregnancy t-shirt out of the attic room back in to my drawers to wear and them moved my dresses out of my wardrobe in the attic. Ain't going to be wearing them anytime soon with breast feeding so might as well make some space.

My wardrobe at the moment is so boring. I've been wearing jeans, vest tops and hoody religiously. The vest tops end up stretching over my massive mammaries though and going baggy round my belly.
Could do with some nice tops to go with jeans that aren't too expensive. Any suggestions?

Horsey I bet you're right - I bet its a fecking growth spurt and he's refluxy because he's scoffing so much milk!!! Will keep him off solids today as shouldn't wean if growth spurt as he needs to up my supply.....

Y amused himself blowing raspberries at grandma and grandad in Costa this morning which they thought was brilliant he is now flaked out on me after sitting in. his nest. I honestly don't think he will ever roll front to back as he just wants to sit all the time. lovely day .

Y's new sound is something like lurdle urdle or durdle urdle. strange but funny nonetheless.

Y will have breakfast at 9, lunch at 12.30ish. and tea between 4 and 5 with the boys. at the mo he will have milk feeds just after each meal but by seven months ish he will have milk feeds when he waked. mid morning, mid afternoon, after tea and before bed.
