Think A has reflux too.:( Think it may have been a contributor to DD's low weight gain. A has only recently been able to stick his tongue out, but he has a white tongue, gags/chokes on feeds, arches back etc. Has hiccups after feeds too. I don't think its too bad atm, just stops him settling to sleep straight away.

Have mastitis. Boob hot & red. Have massaged etc etc. Shit :( Do I def need to go to the GP do you think?

blonderthanred · 19/12/2012 22:44

YW reading those symptoms I'm a bit worried about L now, we have a lot of those. Might speak to GP.

sweetpea1112 · 19/12/2012 22:46

O has a lot of those signs that YW has listed. Possibly reflux then? He often seems uncomfortable but I tend to put that down to wind.

ValiumQueen · 19/12/2012 22:55

Fuck. So does J. They cannot all have it though surely? I thought white tongue was milk and the rest I put down to growth spurt or virus. Fuck. Thank you YW I will talk to dr.

KissysUnderTheMisteltoe · 19/12/2012 22:57

We've got a lot of those symptoms too, think green mucousy poo is another which we also have! Taking LO to get weighed tomorrow so will speak to HV about it then. Not keen on cutting out dairy if we don't need too, especially before Xmas! But will do whatever's necessary obviously. LO has been very unsettled tonight, tried the infant gaviscon but don't think it's helped Confused

sweetpea1112 · 19/12/2012 22:58

Do you think it is worth me taking O to the GP? He has pretty much every one of those symptoms. Wonder if that is part of the reason he is unsettled at night. He is currently having a bout of hiccups...

YellowWellies · 19/12/2012 23:01

Oh and others symptoms are also - excess snot and mucus, sleep apnoea, and bubbly drool / excess saliva. There was a reason J couldn't shift his snotty nose, and what I heard as a heavy chest / breathing difficulties was acid coming up his throat and him trying to swallow it. It is common - 30% of babies have reflux and 15% are cows milk protein intolerant (though both are massively under diagnosed). The classic angry growth spurt symptoms (squealing, punching the boob, headbutting your chest, and unlatching furiously) are all symptoms too.

YellowWellies · 19/12/2012 23:04

Apparently there is no point getting medicated without cutting out dairy if dairy is the root cause (and it isn't in all cases) - as the meds just won't cut it without changing your diet. In this instance its not easier to ditch BFing as the only formula Jonas could have would be one that is dairy and soy free and only available on prescription and leads to them getting green diarhoea the entire time they are on it :( so dairy free for me seems like the least worst option iyswim?

KissysUnderTheMisteltoe · 19/12/2012 23:05

Oh and chunky I would get to GP ASAP if u have mastitis. A friend of mine was hospitalised with it recently, best to get antibiotics quickly

Evilwater · 19/12/2012 23:09

Why won't baby evil sleep? At 8 I started to get him to sleep, but no. He is wide awake!
Grrr......
Evil

ChunkyTurkeywiththetrimmings · 19/12/2012 23:30

Thanks kissy have been frantically massaging it, feeding on it first, even doing a very undignified dangling feed (think on all fours, boob like udder...Blush) but its still there. :( Guess I'll have to get someone to babysit DD while I go to the walk in clinic.

StuntNun · 19/12/2012 23:31

Chunky you don't have to have antibiotics, sometimes you can shift if by frequent feedings, etc. It makes you feel really unwell though, like having the 'flu so don't put off seeing the GP if it doesn't seem to be shifting. If you get antibiotics then make sure you get some probiotic drinks as well to keep your gut in good shape (take them at a different time of day to the antibiotics).

Crikey YW. I just read that list to DH and wee P has each and evey symptom.

For others thinking their LO might have reflux our consultant said it was very common but that most babies don't need treatment or minimal treatment. Perhaps small things like feeding upright or lifting the basket slightly would make an improvement. Wee P's reaction and speed of her decline is not that common so it may not be a massive issue.

The consultant also told us to 'be gentle with her - she is a delicate little lady'. Gentle burping which doesn't force up acid is really important - but nt something I have got the hang of. Treat your LO like a can of fizzy juice!

sweetpea1112 · 20/12/2012 00:50

Bloody OH. I usually do the night shift by myself while he sleeps in the other room and takes over at 6am so I can get a few hours sleep. Tonight O is particularly unsettled so I asked him to help out and share the night shift with me but all he has done is watch me feed him and then gone to sleep while I am trying to settle him! He has already had a couple of hours sleep tonight while my head hasn't touched the pillow once yet. Angry

ChunkyTurkeywiththetrimmings · 20/12/2012 01:48

Thanks stunt.

Oh dear sweetpea. Wake him up again!!

sweetpea1112 · 20/12/2012 02:00

He just woke up to hear O crying - asked me if I had him then rolled over and started snoring again straight away. I have still had no sleep.

Quiet here tonight. Hoping that means lots of sleeping babies (and mummies)

NervousReindeer · 20/12/2012 03:11

Sympathies chunky I had a blocked duct and it was horrible and sore Xmas Sad was lucky that it didn't turn into more

Xmas Sad yellow sorry I don't have anything helpful to say

sophia I think we can all be forgiven for typos, baby in 1 arm and typing with the other isn't easy Xmas Grin

MM you'll cope fine once you get in to your own pattern with your DD and tbh I think it's easier when DP goes to work and I potter around at my own pace. I eventually get what needs to be done done so tell him to sod off

glenda i sing to DD sometimes and it could be anything and she seems to be quite calm, now I do it all the time DP often does too Xmas Grin

Xmas Angry at your DH * sweetpea

I had a really nice night with DH tonight LO slept well and we just chilled out and chatted with no tv so was good. On second feed here

My Christmas shopping is all done just waiting on some parcels and a couple of bits to wrap. We've brought LO some toys and I can't wait to see her face expressions with the lights and sounds, she loves things like that now so I hope we get smiles

ChunkyTurkeywiththetrimmings · 20/12/2012 03:14

Think boob lump is improving. Have fed from it & DS had a reasonable go at emptying it, then I expressed from the other side (before I get a blocked duct in that too!!)

Not sure whether I can face a toddler grp Xmas party tomorrow morning but feel bad if DD misses out just because I'm tired.Confused

ChunkyTurkeywiththetrimmings · 20/12/2012 03:18

I made up a song to sing to DD when she was 2-3wks old (because I couldn't think of any "proper" songs) & only the tune to Winnie the Pooh stuck in my head. So now I sing the same one to DS.:)

ValiumQueen · 20/12/2012 03:19

Hello. I do not tend to post at this time as usually feed in bed to drop off asap. Tonight I fed J and made a conscious effort to get up to see how his mucous is. As soon as he is moved there it is. Desperate coughing with spluttering and screaming. I can hear it in the back of his throat and he has coughed some out. Poor little bugger is asleep on me now and I am sat in the nursery.

I do not know if it is reflux or not. He has bubbly saliva and lots of snot and mucus. So many symptoms overlap with wee ones. His poo has had some green. I put that down to growth spurt. Where is the manual? You would think by now humans would come with an app or something.

I just shouted DH. I put the light on as I needed help and shouted from the foot of the bed. He did not stir. He goes deaf when he has a cold so I cannot really get angry with him. I coped on my own eventually.

NervousReindeer · 20/12/2012 03:20

FX ita improving for you chunky and is better by Christmas!

Any ideas how I can get more milk when i pump? I can't only do it when LO is feeding other I get about 1ml and I only seem to get between 1/2oz and 1an 1/2oz if I'm very lucky I get 2iz but I can't get more then 3oz a day except for once or twice. Really want to build up stores for over Xmas and new year so I can have a drink or two Xmas Smile

ValiumQueen · 20/12/2012 03:27

blonder any news about his weight?

nervous I think little and often with the pumping and it will increase usually.

KissysUnderTheMisteltoe · 20/12/2012 04:54

VQ have u tried the saline drops and a snot sucker on J, if he's got a bunged up nose that will help him clear it
