Sophia- it is much easier for men to get the snip than for women to be sterilised (unless like vq ir's done at the same time as another procedure like elcs)

Glenda - for some reason singing nellie the elephant calms LO. Other than that I chant random nonsense and jiggle my knees Hmm

sweetpea1112 · 19/12/2012 20:49

MM I can completely empathise with your OH issues - he sounds very very similar to my OH. Thinks I am a crap mum and he is brilliant at bringing up Oscar.

The only advice I can give is to tell him how you are feeling - perhaps written down. This made things better for us for a couple of days. Although they seem to be edging that way again...

Horsey I dread to think what your HV would have to say about how I make up formula - we usually only boil a small amount of water so as not to waste a kettle full. We then leave it for approx 10mins before adding the powder. We do have a thermometer so check the temp every time and make sure it is at least 70. Means we can make up feeds in half the time. Your HV sounded as though she had no common sense.

Evenings are a bit crap aren't they? Find them quite stressful what with making up the night feeds, Oscar being more unsettled and knowing that a long night with very little sleep lays ahead....I much prefer daylight hours.

Oscar has just come up with a round red patch on his head about the size of a 5p piece - like a bump but without the bump part if that makes sense? He seems ok in himself - anything to worry about?

DesperateHousewife21 · 19/12/2012 20:51

Loving the dummy Xmas Blush

I don't know if it was the nearly 7 hours sleep last night or the fact I've drunk alot more water today but feel alot more awake. Really hope tonight is the same then ill finally believe there's a light at the end of the sleep deprived tunnel

Sophiathesnowfairy · 19/12/2012 20:59

I thinkit is your new hair DH, it has given you a new lease of life.

Catbag · 19/12/2012 21:05

I find that a baby or two acts as the perfect contraception. Mine all seem to have built-in dtd detectors. The merest thought of it will cause immediate yawping from the babies!

Sophiathesnowfairy · 19/12/2012 21:09

I was thinking about the vasectomy for DH we will have to talk. If he offers I will jump at the chance but I would never ask. I don't know why I feel like that I just do.

I did some reading on the NHS website about female sterilisation and there are lots of different options and you can have it done by laperoscopy (sorry spelling) so looks like you can have it done as day surgery.

Am seriously considering it.

Sophiathesnowfairy · 19/12/2012 21:14

I would just like to get our sex life back to what it was before we had DS1 and then after that we were trying for 18months for number two so it was all about getting pregnant. So not worrying about contraception and side effects and all that rubbish would be great. Xmas Blush

ValiumQueen · 19/12/2012 21:21

sophia you get your natural bleeding pattern as no chemicals. Unfortunately.

ValiumQueen · 19/12/2012 21:23

horsey you got me on that one Grin

PetiteRaleuse · 19/12/2012 21:31

You can have it done as laperoscopy but recovery is still longer than the bruised balls men get. You could just mention that someone said their DH in France was doing it and can he believe that it only became legal in France in the last ten years Shock

would open up a discussion....

ValiumQueen · 19/12/2012 21:32

evil if you have a spare bottle sterilised to measure water in then pour into bottle with powder? That would work and be more accurate than what you are doing currently.

When DD1 was born I did not know any lullabies so sung away in a manger. She was born in June. The last verse mentions going to heaven, and I always tagged on 'but not for a very long time please'. She grins from ear to ear when she hears it now.

ValiumQueen · 19/12/2012 21:35

The recovery for female sterilisation is a fortnight. It is very liberating as I could shag anyone and not get pregnant. If DH had it done it would limit my options. Joking obviously. With 3 kids there is no way I am shagging anybody for a long time.

Passmethecrisps · 19/12/2012 21:36

Seriously petite?? Vasectomies? That is amazing!

I was singing Silent Night yesterday followed by Under the Bridge.

ValiumQueen · 19/12/2012 21:41

pass I initially thought you were listing your activities of the day... Sorry to hear of your dill pickle Grin

I too have been playing with gripe water tonight. Did feck all, so not trapped wind bothering my boy. I am worried he is in pain and has milk intolerance or silent reflux rather than growth spurt and lingering cough from bronchifuckinglitis. He has his jags tomorrow so I will ask the doc. I hope he can have them.

Those who have little ones sleeping on them, do you lie down or are you propped up? Finding it hard to imagine how you could sleep too.

Evilwater · 19/12/2012 21:44

Anyone else's LO loves being awake and wants to play ALL the time. Envy ??
I have to give him a bed time else he would be awake 24/7. Shock
It takes me an hour for him to settle after his I'm awake all day, and want to be picked up all the time.

I'm trying to settle LO, didn't know why he was upset, looked at the thermometer and its 22 in his room. I'm now sat by the open window rocking him.
Evil

Evilwater · 19/12/2012 21:46

Thanks VQ!!
Evil

sweetpea1112 · 19/12/2012 22:04

VQ on the occasions where O won't settle in his basket and he sleeps on me I tend to sit propped up in bed with him on my chest. Not very comfortable - particularly for my neck and back and I only tend to doze - I never fall into a deep sleep. Somehow I always seem to be aware of him. The nights when this happens it is either sleep like that or not at all.

blonderthanred · 19/12/2012 22:05

Sorry to hear J is so unsettled VQ, he has been through it with the bronchiolitis though. It's so hard trying to second guess all the time.

L has got his own back and pooed about 5 times today, he has been changed seconds later...! Hopefully that will mean a restful night.

I sing Edelweiss to him, no idea why but it popped into my head one night early on and now it's our song. I sing lots of other made up nonsense too.

sweetpea1112 · 19/12/2012 22:07

I have been singing 'Oscar the red nosed baby' to O on account of his red nose when I accidently lean the bottle against it during feeds Blush

PetiteRaleuse · 19/12/2012 22:25

Vasectomies became legal in France in 1999, so a bit earlier than 10 years ago: www.connexionfrance.com/getting-vasectomy-in-france-only-legal-since-1999-11041-news-article.html

Conversation opener for those of you unsure how to test the water???

ValiumQueen · 19/12/2012 22:28

How are cloth bum mummies getting on? I am doing ok with DS but DD is in disposables mainly. Too much for me to do both.

PetiteRaleuse · 19/12/2012 22:29

Interesting comparison btw between risks for female and male sterilisation in that article.

horseylady · 19/12/2012 22:29

Yeah ds loves being awake, looking round. He fights sleep lots. He's perfected the 20 minute nap and that can see him through the next bout of awakeness. Every so often he crashes. He sleeps ok at night though.

I sang too little boys to ds. Except I gave them both a wooden leg instead of horse.....ironic really.....of all the words I should remember!! Mainly though we sing along to planet rock or radio one!! When he was in my belly he used to go mad whenever rudemental feel the love came on. That and foo fighters :)

YellowWellies · 19/12/2012 22:30

VQ here are some tell tale signs of silent reflux / and / or cows milk protein intolerance - white tongue, tendency to stick the tongue out, lots of hiccups, wet burps, vinegary smelling poos, sour breathe, tendency to go rigid / plank like after a feed (- an attempt to stretch out the oesphagus and prevent acid coming up), dislike of being horizontal, hoarse breathing, snorting, weird chokey / growling noises from the throat as milk comes back up, crying in absolute pain including sudden shrieks from nowhere, coughing and spluttering and sometimes choking on feeds, dislike of being fed in prone positions. Jonas doesn't have all of these but he has enough to make the diagnosis pretty certain :( it's fecking shit to be honest.

We've just spent over £100 on dairy free foods for me. DH has suggested he go dairy and soy free too to make it easier - god love him. He's also just realised that virtually everything in my Christmas stocking - I can't have. He'd filled it with my fave chocs and goodies :(

I am now addicted to wine gums. I can't have any of my Christmas baileys. Boo

blonderthanred · 19/12/2012 22:43

I've been rubbish VQ but still determined to give it a proper go once the fog has cleared and the weight gain issue improves (and either I buy some different small nappies or his little bottom grows big enough for the LLs).
