kyz I use safari for this thread because its alot easier to find my place, I use the app for general reading/ lurking.

Evilwater · 01/12/2012 18:05

At the instance ( yelling and telling off )of DP, I'm going to try and breastfeed again. LO sucking is better and DP insisted ( told me FF is poison ).

I have some milk but its decreaseing each time I pump, and DP is very upset about this.( currently not talking to me )

How do I go about increasing the volume?
Evil

blonderthanred · 01/12/2012 18:10

Evil Shock have you tried telling him that yelling and stress will cause your supply to deplete?

Evilwater · 01/12/2012 18:19

No, he is in being a wall at the moment, if I won the lottery he still wouldn't talk to me. men can be assess

If I recall, I pump more at night?

I also think its a culture thing, as he is from Spain, and they breast feed for a long time. I'm a third generation to be feed by bottle, so breast feeding is very Alain to me. He thinks FF should be illegal.

Evil

ValiumQueen · 01/12/2012 18:25

evil put baby to breast as much as possible, and pump if awake in night, and during morning. Any stimulation your nipples get will increase supply. I would, however, say that this is your choice, not your partners. Only do it if you want to, even if he is being a twat about it.

blonder how about starting a thread in BF topic. His little body will be adjusting all the time.

It is very odd. DS had wind. I bought gripe water. Never used it. Wind no longer a problem.

Dummy was not accepted either.

Passmethecrisps · 01/12/2012 18:38

evil it won't help your supply but your partner is being wholly unreasonable. Anyway, pumping through the night will increase your supply. Lots of skin to skin followed by putting baby to the breast and pumping. This is all theory to me though so I have no idea how it will work it practice. If it makes you happy then your supply should increase with time. Being miserable won't.

Izzybuzzybuzzybees · 01/12/2012 18:39

Marking my place. No chance of catching up but will try read the last few pages!

Don't think I've told my birth story but it was eventful. I retained my placenta, had to consent to manual removal in theatre with spinal after delivery with just gas and air. Then had a post partum haemmorrhage and lost over 2 litres if blood. Ended up crashing and needing a blood transfusion :(

Passmethecrisps · 01/12/2012 18:48

Is that the key then, VQ? Should I rush out and buy some Gripe water? Wee P isn't old enough for it yet being 3 weeks on Monday but I am erring towards trying anything. Poor wee soul can't get peace to sleep properely for being all stuffed up and windy.

Was it blonder who was asking about constipation? To my knowledge it is unusual in breast fed babies. Could it be trapped wind? A warm bath would help either way. Warm water sloshed over the tummy can be nice. We have been trying a warm bath followed by some tummy massaging before a feed. I was also trying cooled boiled water but P doesn't really like it.

We will get there sophia. The tiny feed followed by wee snooze cycle is an issue here too. She can't stay awake for a full feed but is awaken within 45 minutes.

She is lying just now in her swing whimpering like a wee puppy.

Passmethecrisps · 01/12/2012 18:50

Yikes izzy! That certainly is eventful! I am glad that everything worked out in the end.

YellowWellies · 01/12/2012 19:03

Peaky J's had EBM bottles and boobs since week one - no nipple confusion going on at all. We were advised that the bottle should always be given by DH or someone other than me so he associates BFing with me not bottles. It is a lifesaver having DH do the first night feed by bottle. We all slept in to 10.30am with only one nightfeed for me at 5am - was lush and so nice to wake up together to a snowy day.

Izzy crikey hen - are you ok now!?

Dixie Jonas was a star gazer too - hurt like hell - thought I was being a wussy first timer!

Oh Cat as a twin I don't know what to say other than make sure the surviving sister always knows and treasures being a twin :( lots of love to you all. And ALWAYS feel free to talk about her here.

Evil good for you on the BFing - but make sure you are doing it because you want to - stress will just deplete your supply and risks colic. Good luck xx

We've bought some condoms - am on a mission to DTD!!!!

blonderthanred · 01/12/2012 19:04

Thanks passme. I think he does have some wind issues hence trying the Infacol, so I am not too worried about that as I know it will pass, but just not pooing for 2 days seems odd when he's been feeding normally. I will def try the warm bath.

In an exciting update, we have just had some farts through so I am hopeful things are on the move.

YellowWellies · 01/12/2012 19:06

In nappy news, DH offered to change Jonas' nappy as we got in from town - it was a shoulder blade soaker - poo everywhere. I hope it doesn't put him off volunteering!!!!

TheDetective · 01/12/2012 19:09

Oscar prefers a 3 course meal! He will often feed for 10-15 mins, then come off and sleep for a few minutes before waking and going on again for 5-10 mins. And then repeats that cycle again! Can take anything from 30 mins to an hour to feed! He doesn't do it with every feed. Just some. Wish we could get a little bit more predictable!

In other news. I'm a little hormonal today. I never want to leave the house. Ever ever again! I hate it when Oscar is in the car seat or pushchair. He looks so angry. I feel like we are on constant time limits everywhere we go. Like there is no time to feed him or soothe him.

I dunno what I'm getting at. I just want to stay in our mummy and Oscar cocoon at home where I've all the time in the world to give him. We are currently snuggled up in bed. And now I am happy!

He has just give me my first taste of breastmilk Hmm by squirting it in my face. He has some aim...!

TheDetective · 01/12/2012 19:19

There is no nipple confusion here either! He has had bottles since he was just over 24 hours old. First 2 days was small formula top ups when I was utterly exhausted and couldn't sit to feed him any longer (sore fanjo/bum!) he had one bottle each day. After that he has had occasional ebm feeds by bottle. Once a day, mostly just to pacify him if I've been getting showered etc. He prefers boob! In fact after 100ml ebm he will still go on the boob for a full feed Hmm. No wonder he hasn't lost any weight! I have had to pump anyway as I seem to have too much milk. I've got to the point of being in pain and boobs getting lumpy when he had not long fed. So pumped to stop myself getting into problems.

I leak a hell of a lot!!

TheDetective · 01/12/2012 19:21

Oh and he will suck on a dummy too. But again it's just a measure to distract him while he can't be fed - in the car etc. He will happily suck it, and happily let it out when he falls asleep.

I'd say he uses it once a day maybe!

Again. No confusion. And he still prefers boob to dummy.

MadamGazelleIsMyMum · 01/12/2012 19:31

I leak too detective - soak a few bras and tops a day, even when stuffing 2/3 pads in each cup. My leaking occurs from the boob am not feeding from when DS on the other one. I guess it will settle down eventually - DS is 4 weeks old.

He also happily takes a bottle, and from me. I don't like other people feeding him, even Dh just yet. Feeding feels like my job.

I introduced a dummy at 2 weeks and a bottle at 3. No nipple confusion here that I can tell. Food is food to DS it would seem.

priscilla101 · 01/12/2012 19:42

blonder babypriscilla is EBF And didn't poo for two days, but last night he did, so think it is normal, just a bit uncomfortable for bubbas...(hopeful emoticon)

StuntNun · 01/12/2012 19:44

That sounds scary Izzy. Did you have to have your blood type retested after the transfusion? They were telling me in the hospital that sometimes your blood type changes after a transfusion if you make antibodies to some factor in the transfused blood. I had never heard of that before but it makes sense - similar to Rhesus blood type but for other factors present in the blood.

blonderthanred · 01/12/2012 20:06

Thank you Priscilla that is just what I wanted to hear!

I leak too although my breasts never feel really engorged so I don't think I'm overproducing. Was thinking of getting some of those milk collecting breast shells (did Shelly mention them?) to stop waste.

Chunkychicken · 01/12/2012 20:16

Phillips Avent breast shells are the ones I use/mentioned blonder...

I'm getting dummies for A tomorrow, fed up with being the dummy. Don't want to introduce a bottle just yet though, as with A's tongue tie, I'm worried it will be a lot easier than bf and it will lead to nipple confusion. Wasn't going to do a dummy for the same reason, but needs must.... Really, really hope the tie is cut soon as I've got about 25oz of ebm in the freezer & want to be able to use it. DD was happy with a dummy & a bottle, so I felt I had options - started a dummy at 2-3wks & bottle at 5wks. Would hate to feel I was imprisoned by bfing iyswim.

TheDetective · 01/12/2012 20:18

My worst time for downpours is while he is trying to latch or when he comes off for a burp or a possett mummy chokes him. They leak a lot between feeds but mostly it is only a problem when I'm feeding and I soak everything in the vicinity Hmm.

TheDetective · 01/12/2012 20:20

25oz?! Bloody hell!!!

That's impressive Chunky!

Chunkychicken · 01/12/2012 20:33

Not all at once I hasten to add detective Xmas Grin A feeds far too often for me to pump more than a couple of oz at a time!! But the shells collect 2-3oz from a feed first thing in the morning.

evil if you want to do it, then the Kellymom website is a good resource. Have a look at Back to Breast info or search for upping supply or re-starting feeding. Good luck Xmas Smile

Izzy that is dramatic/eventful. Hope you're feeling ok now.

Not sure I posted my bs either actually - or if I did, baby brain has struck again!!

In short, first contraction happened 30mins after DTD!! By about 3hrs later, they were every 10mins & regular. 4.5hrs & they suddenly ramped up to every 5mins. MW arrived about 45mins later, I was 4cm. I had some g&a about 30mins or so after that, and maybe 10-20mins later, I started pushing. I went from 4cm to baby in less than 1.5hrs!! It was all very quick, intense but straight forward. No probs whatsoever, thankfully. Count my blessings every day.

YellowWellies · 01/12/2012 20:40

The kellymom website is amazing - it has answered all of my BFing worries and given me so much confidence - all preggo Mums wanting to BF should read it :)

Chunkychicken · 01/12/2012 20:50

A has started looking at me when feeding, almost as if he's just noticed there is a Mummy/face attached to the boobs.Xmas Grin
