Sorry Chunky it was you who mentioned them. Definitely going to buy some as I always have rivers coming out of one side when feeding on the other, esp first thing in the morning.

Still no poo here but DS calmer after farts and having a good happy feed so fingers xed it will shift soon.

YellowWellies · 01/12/2012 20:55

Jonas has started holding onto my hand when he feeds - makes my heart melt

Peaky1 · 01/12/2012 21:00

Thanks for all of these EBF comments. It's really helpful! I'm thinking maybe I should try to pump more than once a day so that we can do the 1 feed a day but also so that DP isn't caught short with a hungry baby and I'm not there to top up!

Now I have a Q for those with boys. Is there anything I should be doing at bath time to clean his willy properly? I must admit I'm not used to dealing with them in that sense!!!

priscilla101 · 01/12/2012 21:03

No, peaky, just wash as you would everywhere else! Well that is what I did with DS 1 who is fine and babypriscilla is getting the same treatment!

Peaky1 · 01/12/2012 21:04

YW it's so cute when they grab your thumb isn't it? I think I started blubbing the first time JJ did that!

horseylady · 01/12/2012 21:09

Blonder I thought bf babies could go days without pooing and be ok.

5 weeks today and he's smiling more he did a practice laugh and he's started wanting to look out and observe the world rather than sit close cuddling.

I also want to say norovirus is totally and utterly shit!!

Passmethecrisps · 01/12/2012 21:21

Finger grabbage makes my heart melt. P holds on to my thumb with one hand and index finger with the other while I hold her bottle. It's very cute.

Parents are visiting this weekend. They are convinced that P is almost properly smiling. It doesn't matter to me if it is wind, a big gummy grin makes everything better.

blonderthanred · 01/12/2012 21:30

How are you feeling horsey?

horseylady · 01/12/2012 21:35

Better in that I'm keeping food down, but my stomach still feels delicate? Am really tired so about to suggest dh does the next feed while I go to bed!! Can't believe how much stomach bugs knock up up!! Will have more sympathy with folks in future!!

Dh explained why I still feel awful - he gets a fair few. My stomach (and entire immune system) does not get sick so this is a new concept!

priscilla101 · 01/12/2012 21:39

Anyone else get more thirsty than normal when bf'ing at night? I know it makes you more thirsty, but I am noticing the nighttimes are making me super thirsty!

FreddieMercurysBolero · 01/12/2012 21:47

It's a lovely feeling when they do that chunky:) L has started too, it makes me feel bad for MNing on my phone whe feeding.

Evil - please don't put yourself under too much pressure (or let anyone else) to bf. It can be very difficult to get supply back up, I killed myself trying to do it with DS. Google galactolouges if you really want to do it though, they can help.

Detective - deffo get some breast shells if you are leaking that much, I have one very leaky boob and have started saving a lot from that one use shells - and save myself pumping, which I HATE.

Ds has slept for the last 3 hours after feeding all day. He wont sleep tonight I'd say...

blonderthanred · 01/12/2012 21:59

Priscilla, I get very thirsty as well, often as soon as I start bf-ing. I try to be organised but DH has got used to me saying, "could you just get me a drink... and pass me a cushion... and a magazine... hmmm are there any biscuits?"

Horsey hope you carry on improving, I've never had a really bad bug like that but must be extra hard combined with looking after the baby.

Chunkychicken · 01/12/2012 22:02

I have had A on a boob almost constantly since 8pm... If I couldn't see the milk dripping when he comes off/dribbles, I'd think my supply wasn't up to much!!! As it is, think its either comfort or 3wk growth spurt (he is 3 wks tomorrow). A tiny bit Xmas Angry & a tiny bit Xmas Sad, my poor nips!!

horseylady · 01/12/2012 22:09

I hope so too!! Think it was norovirus the speed it happened and went through me. My dr colleague seemed to think so too.

Evil, evil, evil. 5pm I was ok, 5.15 felt a bit sick, 5.30 had a bit to eat, 6pm we left the house, 6.05 we turned round and came home, 6.30 I had the runs, 7pm to 11pm I was projectile vommiting then 11-2am I had the runs. But it was just water. I'd not eaten a huge amount that day, just toast, soup and pasta!!
Still eating very bland food (toast!!) scared to try much more!!

TheDetective · 01/12/2012 22:12

I had the conversation with --stupid/- SIL this afternoon who said (when I explained that sometimes he feeds very frequently) that breastmilk wasn't satisfying his hunger. GRRRR!!! That's not how it works ffs!

She drives me mad. She means well but we have polar opposite parenting skills.

TheDetective · 01/12/2012 22:13

Poor you Horsey. I looked after a woman in labour who vomited all the way through. Carried on after... Turns out she had norovirus Shock

Elizadoesdolittle · 01/12/2012 22:36

horsey I feel for you. I had something similar when DD1 was a baby. It was horrendous. Really hope you recover soon.

I've spent all evening feeding E and she's just projectile vomited it all up. It's hard to believe so much liquid could come from such a tiny thing. She's so much more sicky than DD1 ever was. Of course she will now be hungry again soon, could have done without that tonight. Need to get as much milk in her before the weigh in tomorrow. Ahhhhhhhhhhh!

Izzybuzzybuzzybees · 01/12/2012 22:44

Can't remember who asked but I'm doing ok now. Tired but no idea how much of it isn't due to losing so much blood.

It was me who recommended spectra pump, glad some of you have found it useful.

We are managing to breastfeed but had a LOT of problems. Both treated for thrush and seeing a special feeding advisor.

Baby has just been feeding nearly all the time since 8pm. DH going to do night feeds tonight with a a mix if EBM and formula as I'm exhausted today. I'm heading to bed now in fact :)

FreddieMercurysBolero · 01/12/2012 22:45

mention the sickyness to the hv eliza -could be reflux, ds1 had it and did not put on a lot of weight until i got it sorted.

priscilla101 · 01/12/2012 22:54

chunky me too, been feeding since 8.

priscilla101 · 01/12/2012 22:55

And baby priscilla is 3 weeks old today....maybe we will be rewarded with say, 4 hours unbroken sleep?

Elizadoesdolittle · 01/12/2012 22:57

Thanks freddie I will mention it to the mw tomorrow. She's not sick after every feed but when she is my goodness we know about it. Around 5am is her normal time to do a spectacular effort. I don't think it's right though, hopefully we can sort the problem tomorrow, or at least start trying to figure out what's going on!

Chunkychicken · 01/12/2012 23:33

I really, really hope so priscilla!! A feeding AGAIN now; we're both laying down & DH is watching the rugby highlights downstairs, so we may get some sleep soon...

TheDetective · 01/12/2012 23:47

Just finished a 2 hour feed with a 10 min break after 20 mins as I needed the loo. Fingers crossed he will give me a decent stretch now! Though we've been cuddled up in bed since 7! I have had a couple of mini snoozes Grin.

Just out of curiosity - I don't actually know the answe to this bad midwife does anyone else have to help the baby to latch at every feed? If so, do they eventually learn to do this? Oscar needs me to hold my boob for him to get a good latch. Doesn't bother me at home, but this is usually when he gets a soaking Grin and it means when out and feeding, it is a little tricky. Especially as he comes off several times between feeds.

Tomorrow, I am going to order a sling. This will keep the nosy buggers away from him when out, and will help with feeding. I am going to get a morrck wrap too for car seat. Had been meaning to get one but never got round to it. I hate having to disturb him getting him dressed for outside!

Chunkychicken · 02/12/2012 00:14

Think that's normal re: latching on detective for a newborn. Certainly the positioning advice on the LLL website describes 2 boob holds for the 4 main positions and has a newborn alternate to the 'cradle'/normal hold. If that makes sense... bit tired :)
