pass the pad bits should be in the pocket. The inner layer of the nappy is fleece, so the moisture goes through into the pad, and the fleece stays dry against the baby's skin. If you have the pad next to the baby, you do not get that benefit, and the nappy is more prone to leak. The fleece is a lot easier to wash than the microfibre insert.

donna I cannot bear to repeat it (sob sob) cannot be arsed to look back at thread

I am the same Pass. I find I can't remember what I am even trying to reply to sometimes!

PR Yes, totally! I try and wake him in the day if he goes a bit long, in the hope of a better night! It has been 3 hours since the last feed, so am going to poke him in a minute! Though he has been making little noises.

Horsey I don't want anyone elses clothes ruining his, by zips, velcro etc getting caught on them! I just decided it was easier to do his separate! I don't wash his whites and colours separate really, as most of his stuff is multicoloured AND white!

MM too early. Baby needs to be at breast pretty much all the time due to tiny size of tum, and need to stimulate your breasts. Feeding needs to be established before dummy or bottle. Your milk is not even in yet. Leave it a couple of weeks if I were you.

Bluetinkerbell · 05/12/2012 20:49

MM i ditto the others, too early for dummy... Tilly's sucking is her way of making your milk comes in!
With expressing the normal advice is waittill 6 weeks, i think...

That's what I thought ladies, thanks! Silly MIL and her outdated idealistics had me questionning it. Even a quick 10min feed coups her for a while so will just stick with that. Even if it does mean she is permanently attached to me! It won't be forever (and I selfishly love the cuddles while she is feeding!) Smile

kirrinIsland · 05/12/2012 20:53

Me PR - but there's no waking her once she's properly asleep so tonight is not looking promising!
I have dispatched DP to morrisons for a dummy though - last night was ridiculous.

I nomally wait til she's a awake before picking her up but about an hour ago she opened her eyes for a split second so I swooped in, changed and fed her a little and now she's on her changing mat stretching and kicking and hopefully working up an appetite for a decent feed before midnight. She did one full night on Monday before I ecpected her to, and now want her to do it again.

Ugh, just had a massive burp followed by projectile vomiting all over my front. She's feeding again now... Hope she keeps it in now...
Third change of clothes for her today, the previous 2 she outweed her nappies somehow... They weren't even on for long!

I missed the whole milk coming in suckling as J was under the lights for jaundice so wasn't allowed on me for long as he couldn't be out from under the lights for more than 1 hour in every 4. Instead I had to pump every two hours - much less fun as no cuddles and heartbreaking to see him but not be able to hold him.

As the others have said at two days old there's no such thing as 'too sucky' she's just being a clever wee kitten and following her instincts to bring your milk in. Also if she's getting comfort off you (at all of 2 days old) why is that something the MILs see as bad - I don't know why that generation (well in my family at least) see offspring as something to be battled?

Gawd... BFing with thrush is fecking painful. Like passing glass. Also awful to hear Jonas' shriek in pain when his latch hurts him :( . Can't wait for the medicine to work. Thankfully paracetomol is taking the edge off it for me.

Passmethecrisps · 05/12/2012 22:09

yw it was exactly that description that I have which made a clever lady on here suggest thrush in the first place. I can't remember who it was - stunt maybe. I am very glad because as I stopped feeding I was no longer in pain and the HV told me penny was gagging because of trapped wind. Turns out she is in pain.

Yw/mm I missed it too:( honestly, those of you who can breast feed have such a lovely thing. I was chatting to my friend today who had an equally tough birth/bf experience. I was thinking about them laying him down so I could See him, dh saying you've got a son and me thinking 'I've just totally blacked out I can't see him' then I looked and there he was. Then they took him to the resus trolley and said they might have to take him to icu as he wasn't breathing properly. I cried.

He didn't go in the end. He was on obs for 24 hrs.

YellowWellies · 05/12/2012 22:34

Awwww horsey hon that must have been so hard - I'd have been crying too :(. What a strong little man though

Even tho at the mo BFing is like rubbing glass into my boobs - I am aware of how lucky we are that the rest of the time BFing is going well for us.

Pass is there anything we can give LOs to help with the pain? I'm ok on paracetomol but it's heartbreaking to see him crying in real stabby pain when he suckles - calpol has so much sugar or sweeteners in it - would it just make the thrush worse? I really don't want this to put him off nursing. He never cries he's such a happy chap at the mo to hear him crying in real pain is awful. Dh has just offered to drive through the snow to go and get calpol but the weather is so awful up here I don't want him to risk it.

Mcs h knows his mother is difficult. Prob is he zones her out. He goes to work n can forget about it. Plus he is used to her.

Oh well twat husband is at work tonight so can't annoy me.

Right off to do some research on dummies.

Detective how do u get enough baby clothes to do two loads of washing every day?!! Baby clothes r tiny! Is ur machine really small? I think all of LO current sized clothes would fit in one load.
I put whites (& baby blue bed sheets) in with DH shirts. N his coloured clothes with rest of our stuff. However most his clothes now are coloured, grown out of newborn whites Smile mostly vests which r white. But no one sees those lol

When do i start worrying about the amount she throws up? She had the projectile vomit earlier this evening, quite a big one. Now she's vomited as well during her feed and is quite fussy, so possibly more to come out :( DD1 never had problems like this...
Don't know whether to book doctors appointment in the morning, HV is coming in afternoon...

Report
Bryzoan · 06/12/2012 03:23

Blue - ds throws up quite frequently, twice the night before last, and once just now. I think it is because of trapped wind. Dd used to do it too - covered me properly in milky sick at a wedding once... As long as she is hungry and feeding well after, has a normal temp, plenty of wet and dirty nappies and seems well in herself I wouldn't worry overly - but do check with the hv. If shenseems unwell I would go to the docs though as they are always happy to check newborns over.

I am awake. Repeat ad nauseum.

Yaaaaawn. I've managed 2 hours of sleep with him in basket. He fed from 9 til 1230 with very little gap in between feeding.

I feel slightly more human.

Report
TheDetective · 06/12/2012 03:59

GT they are teeny loads! I have to do at least one wash as we only had 8 sleepsuits in the smaller size. He likes to wee through nappies which creates lots of washing! Add the blankets that get wee or puke on, and towels from oiling him up, flannels, bibs and muslin cloths (go through one every other feed!) it soon mounts up!

Report
TheDetective · 06/12/2012 04:13

Holy crap. 30 min feed, 15 min cuddle. He is in basket. Chickens have been counted...

Detectives sleep resumes...

I think Calpol is only for 2 months and older YW. I hope the thrush clears up quickly. That's one thing I haven't had when breastfeeding (so far). I have got athlete's foot though so can I join the fungus gang?

Second night feed so far. Please sleep till morning J.

I'm on third feed of the night, but they've been feeding for twenty minutes and are definitely slowing fown and thinking about going to sleep again. Hope so, I've been feeling uncharacteristically sleepy during the night feeds for the last few days.

I do a 'baby load' every other day, or thereabouts. I have a 9kg washing machine and it's on AT LEAST once a day. I too separate their stuff from tne rest of the family's for now, but that is because I wash their stuff in Fairy, as well as 20 degrees hotter than any other load.

May have spoken too soon about the babies going back to sleep.....
