I just told ds next year he can eat his advent calendar!!

He's so snuffly bless him, so much mucus. Dh said he wished he could blow his nose :( me too :( would be easier for him to breath then. Worse at night as lying down seems to aggrevate it. Have tilted his bed slightly so he's not dead flat. Feeds are taking forever!!

Vq they are young grandparents!!! Which makes them older than you!! Hahaha!! Age is just a number :) a lot of our friends are your age and just starting families !!

StuntNun · 01/12/2012 10:08

I have lost 18 lb in the fifteen days since J was born! Woohoo! Just 13 lb to get to my pre-pregnancy weight and another stone after that to reach my ideal weight for my BMI lol.

VQ start with Lego Duplo at about 18 months. We got Bob the Builder Duplo and a box of assorted bricks. They're not ready for 'real' Lego until 5-6. It depends on the child's development though as DS1 was making complex Lego kits very early due to his uneven development but DS2 wasn't ready for them until the 'normal' time. The kits have age ranges on so you know which ones to buy. A big box of assorted bricks is best (you can probably get these second hand quite easily). We made the mistake of buying Lego Racers which are cars. These got made exactly once then the pieces got mixed in with everything else. If you are going to buy from the sets get the same type as there's no way to mix Lego Atlantis with say Lego Harry Potter. The Lego City range is most versatile. If your child makes the models and keeps them intact (does any child do this?) then it wouldn't matter which Lego range you got. My DS1 made a huge Lego Batmobile but it was so complicated that it had been put in display. You can't really play with it.

I bought DD Mega blocks VQ which she makes towers out of, & both DH & I will be looking forward to when she's old enough for 'real' lego as that was both.of our toy of choice as children!!

We have a lovely wooden advent calendar in the loft so DD has a milky bar one & I DS has a cadbury one.

Sophiathesnowfairy · 01/12/2012 11:23

vqi thought that too, seems hard to find boxes of just bricks. We have ahead a really good week but went to pot last night so need to spend today trying to he it back somehow, think it is due to the three week growth spurt.

Passmethecrisps · 01/12/2012 11:36

sophia we have been very similar. First week was brill, second was not too bad and the third had been tough. Combination of wind, constipation and growth spurt I think. There is also a possibility that P has thrush in her mouth so that night also be a factor.

I can never quite understand how she can be so easy during the day but totally different at night.

Congrats dixie! Love the name Smile

LO has developed really bad baby acne over the last week Hmm anyone else got it? Any tips on how to deal with it?

Peaky1 · 01/12/2012 12:11

Thanks for that Eliza, your thoughts are really helpful. We may try one bottle this weekend so the Medela is coming out!

Sorry Kissy I'm not sure. Mine has loads of spots on his cute chubby chin (from dribbling milk probably but I read that you should just leave them to clear of their own accord and definitely don't try to pop any.

I just picked my baby's first dry dangly bogey...#glamorous.

TheDetective · 01/12/2012 12:43

I just picked his first one too Peaky! And he cooed and gave me a delighted little squeal after! Must have been annoying him!

Anyone got any better suggestions for dry skin other than olive oil? 8 days today and he is still peeling same as he was at birth. His clothes rub, so tops of legs and arms are worst, as is around his tummy from nappy rubbing. And both sides of his head in front of ears from feeding! Olive oil doing bugger all!

ValiumQueen · 01/12/2012 12:44

I have a while to save up then Grin. I think I will check out car boots etc once I am up to it. My girls are not interested in the mega blocks at all.

GTbaby · 01/12/2012 12:48

Woop woop Dixie! Welcome.

That's all I have time for. Lol. Catch up later

leedy · 01/12/2012 13:12

Sweet almond oil is good for baby dry skin, you can get it in health food shops. Though tbh, he's still a bit flaky even after it.

Kyzordz · 01/12/2012 13:23

I've only just discovered the iPhone mums net app! I would use it but it's taking me forever to get down to where we are in the thread! Waiting for LO to wake up, he's on 4oz every 4 hours but has been waking up up to an hour early so not sure if it's time to add an ounce :/ I don't want to make him wait for food but equally don't want to go back to an ounce every hour. He had a good night last night, but took 6oz at his 10pm feed, so I spent a good while panicking he'd throw up! I'm no good at judging how much to give him, especially since he falls asleep halfway through feeds but I know if I put him down he'll be awake in an hour wanting the other half and there'll be no end in feeding him!

MadamGazelleIsMyMum · 01/12/2012 14:11

cat sorry to hear about your DD. please mention whenever you want to.

Welcome dixie.

DH at work and DD, DS and I ventured out! DS in sling and DD in pushchair - didnt feel up to having her on the reins. But we survived a quick walk, so I fel marginally less bad about all the Peppa and chocolate buttons I am using to stop DD from being clingy and wanting cuddles the second I pick DS up or feed him.

Thanks for the reply peaky Smile I expect they bother me a lot more than her and it's just a case of waiting for them to clear, poor thing even has them on her eyelids Hmm

Sophiathesnowfairy · 01/12/2012 15:03

pass glad it is not just us we are just all over the place after having a nod at a routine this week. Somehow I need to rein it in or we just end up in a vicious circle of feeding little but often, bad bad colic and no sleep for mummy and over tiredness for O.

Peaky1 · 01/12/2012 15:59

No probs Kissy!

Lane aah thanks for that. Mine is 3 weeks today. I got about 90ml off yesterday and the same today in one sitting, which sounds good now! It's so hard to guess how much they may need but I guess this is where getting practice runs in us better than giving DP the bottle and effing off to the theatre! I went to a very helpful bf group and she said that up to 6 months the average feed could be around 120ml breast milk but every baby is different. Was nice to at least get a ball park figure to compare!

Continuing on in the same topic - what bottles are you using? I'm using tommy tippee, which seem to get good reviews. J has been using the teats to take his colic medicine and he doesn't seem to mind them but I only give a few mls in the teat rather than a whole bottle. Still, looks promising Smile

blonderthanred · 01/12/2012 16:01

Kyz if you go to settings you can flip the threads so you always have most recent first.

DS hasn't had a poo since Thursday night - he had mega poosplosions that day so I wasn't worried yesterday as I thought he must have cleared himself out, but we had a bad night of sleep with no settling in cot and today he's been very screamy, arching his back etc which we haven't had since starting Infacol a week ago. We've tried massaging his tummy and bicycling his legs but no joy apart from a couple of farts.

I know bf babies don't always poo that much but when should I worry? And is there anything else I can try?

DonnaDoon · 01/12/2012 16:27

cooled boiled water in a bottle blonder ?

blonderthanred · 01/12/2012 16:49

I wondered about the water but I've read so many conflicting things... That's the problem with the internets innit. Might be worth a try if nothing is forthcoming soon. Feel so awful for the poor little mite.

Kyzordz · 01/12/2012 17:02

Thanks blonder :)

E woke up early again after draining 4oz as usual, so I've added an extra ounce but if he doesn't drink it he doesn't drink it, it just saves me running around sorting another ounce or so out randomly for the odd feed where 4oz isn't satisfying him. It's not every feed but it's happening more often and he's been having 4oz every feed consistently for about a week now. The only time he takes less is the feed after any where he's been sick, and it's usually wind coming up that causes the sick. I've been giving him infacol but he's still not great at bringing up his wind bless him. Winding is the bane of my life ATM, that and the hiccups!

SwissArmyWife · 01/12/2012 17:08

blonder someone up thread mentioned a warm bath and sloshing the water around their bum, you could try that?

I just came on to have a rant about relatives - we had DPs dad and step mum over today. His step mum is the type who thinks once she's holding baby that's it, she can do everything for him. So when he started crying she said, "are they starving you?" "have you got a bottle for him?" Assuming straight away I was bottle feeding and also assuming i'd let her feed him. So of course when I replied that I'm breastfeeding she reluctantly handed him back and they then got really funny about it, saying "oh we brought the camera but we won't take pictures while you're feeding him" "oh no, we don't want that in pictures"
So I felt really uncomfortable after that. They didn't even take any pictures of me holding him! Every time I went to burp him they expected cuddles and kept saying he was hungry but wouldn't just let me get on with feeding! Grrrrrrr, why are some people so rude and funny about breastfeeding?? I felt so angry!

ValiumQueen · 01/12/2012 17:18

swiss sod 'em and be grateful their visit is over. Their problem, not yours!

blonder not sure what to think as never had that problem. DS has stopped shitting constantly, but is still going about 5 times a day, just in bigger amounts. When he goes, is it the regular cottage cheese, or more poo-like?

Cor, we have some lovely conversations!

blonderthanred · 01/12/2012 17:34

I might try that Swiss. That visit sounds horrible, why do people behave like that?

VQ he usually has several small-ish mustardy poos a day. Tues & Thurs he had massive clear outs which were more liquid (nice) than usual, although not watery. I won't even apologise for TMI!
