I think your partner needs to be getting his arse into gear and finding as much overtime or a bar job in order to get your saving back to the state they were in!

BJR That's so bad. No wonder you need some time away.

BJR good luck with the hydrocele. Am overly paranoid, but get a little torch and keep putting it to his testes to check that light passes thru. When Ali was born on day 1 the light passed thru and they thought it was a hydrocele. On day 2 the light didn't pass thru and they decided it had actually been twisted, the testicle was now dead and had to be removed. Don't want to scare you but if he'd been scanned straightaway they probably would have saved his testicle by operating sooner. I'm tempted to tell you to demand an ultrasound scan now... Forget the torch, once the light doesn't pass thru it's too late. Am paranoid, I know. But from unfortunate experience. Are they 100% sure it's a hydrocele?
Sorry.

aethelfleda · 19/04/2012 13:08

BJR, I'm giving you a for easy haddock and swordfish access. DP needs to grow up and behave and I totally agree with Northern, he needs to find some sort of income stream to pay you back, this debt is his and even though you're together he shouldn't expect you to bail him out, he's not a teenager anymore....

oi and bjr, glad little BJR is Ok: the torch test is used to demonstrate simple cysts but it's not by itself very accurate, it jist shows if a lump is fluid-filled versus solid, also it is very rare to have twisty testicles at that age (babies/children are usually very distressed by them too). Hope the scan goes well and shows he has a little free floating testicle in there (rather than a high up one in the tummy that will have to be brought down and fixed in place). Good luck!

And today, We encountered the HV. dS is fine, just below 25th centile at 15 weeks. I'm happy. hV knows I have three and chattered about how I would "need a break from the girls in the summer"...er, no, it's my last full six weeks in a row with them before I go back to work. Yes, it's more work than during term time but I don't want to pack them off anywhere, thanks!

And then she asked me to come back "at 17 weeks for a chat before You do any weaning". Yes dear. Of course I will dear. Suuuuure I will. Bye now!

NorthernChinchilla · 19/04/2012 13:48

Hey MissRee, how did it go re the hospital visit?

I feel your pain Gee, literally. I've now dropped a mid morning and a mid afternoon feed, and went cold turkey two nights ago with all night feeds (bar the half ten one which we're keeping anyway). I have woken up in a wet bed the past two mornings, and yesterday had some serious leakage issues around midday, but we're getting there.

But trying to sleep with the damn things, it's like when your milk comes in and for two days you're Pammy Anderson.
DS also allowed me two, nearly-three-hour sleeps in a row last night, half 10/11 to half one, and then til half four!

Got his accounts sorted today, and although I wasn't best pleased at having to go down and take DS with me because of their screw up, and then they'd lost the work we'd done on Saturday, it was swiftly set up.

Am now Widow Twankey-ing owing to a poosplosion and the huge amount of bm sodden muslins around the house Sad, plus having to do all the work clothes.

I hope the time at your parents gives you a bit of breathing space BJR, you have a lot on your plate at the moment. A bit of parental/GP TLC should do you and DS some good, and hope it goes well on Monday.

DeterminedandSpecialMum · 19/04/2012 13:51

Aethel It's almost like they think you don't know what your doing 2nd & 3rd time round?!

Chatting with the HV earlier at Sky's weigh in. She asked if I was happy with her and I said yes. Is waking in the nights now, more interested in food so am thinking of weaning her. Told her am trying her with some baby rice to get her used to a spoon etc and am taking it slowly but I know what I'm doing. She didn't look pleased but said okay Hmm

LittleMissFlustered · 19/04/2012 13:52

Sat waiting for a courier. If they're not here in twenty minutes I'm out of here, I've stuff to do!

Sorry to hear your DH is being a tool bjr haddocks ahoy.

Sorry to hijack but I've got a question about DS1. His testicles don't seem to have descended. He has been checked by a consultant who said they could be felt and milked down so no further action wad needed. This was over a year ago and they don't seem to have actually descended. I'm concerned due to the higher risk of infertility and cancer with undescended testicles. I'm going to need to take him back again aren't i?

BJR · 19/04/2012 16:21

Ah I do seem to have an appropriately sized collection of haddocks now :) And you're all right he is being an utter idiot and now that i've sort the immediate stuff hes going to have to find a way to sort this out. And he can have a few days on his own to think about that while I have fun with DS and the rest of my family!

Thanks for the advice on the hydrocele Oi and Aethel, the GP has been checking it once a month since he was born and a consultant has seen it and at the moment they've said no need to rush anything unless it seems to be causing him distress. Hopefully this won't be as difficult as what you had to go through with your LO Oi.

I would get it checked if you're worried never even if its all fine does no harm to make sure.

Hmm small boy has woken up in a screaming rage, damn those teeth!

NorthernChinchilla · 19/04/2012 16:32

I did warn you that you might need to duck BJR!

I hope he realises in these few days that you've really got him out of a hole, for which he should be grateful, and that he needs to take control of the situation and sort it out, for his family's sake. I hope you have lots of fun with your family and that you're able to just shove it to the back of your mind.

I'd definitely take him never, as they'll either put your mind at rest or do something about it.

Am going to go and sort out my shoes for work with DS's help. Not as glamorous as it sounds- I don't wear heels or anything fancy- and when I was pregnant there were only about two pairs of totally flat and soft shoes I could manage in. So everything else just got chucked in the wardrobe, and now need retrieving...

jigglebum · 19/04/2012 17:02

have just put all my maternity clothes on ebay - definitely only having two and happy with that decision but quite sad not to have another baby in some ways as I am enjoying this age with freya...but 2 children has always been our decision and she is such a good baby I am just counting my blessings. suspect i will get very little for the clothes, depressing when i think how much it all cost and how little some was worn.

holding off weaning freya for a few weeks yet as she is sleeping through at the moment again ( 12 hours) on just 5 6oz bottles a day that don't all get finished.

what a week you are having bjr - hope things look up soon

Sorelip · 19/04/2012 18:00

Ellis just had his first taste of a carrot stick, and he loved it :) He's been in a right mood today, but is now happily screaming away on the changing mat behind me while I ignore him plan dinner.

LittleMissFlustered · 19/04/2012 18:55

Gave octopus some babycrack bonjela earlier. It shut him up for five whole minutes >_

So tired :( Darcie will be going to bed in a mo.

I'm struggling to get this bottle into Sky :( she is just not interested and hardly drank a thing all day - either that or i've counted wrong because i'm so tired. I know she will be up in the night too. Now I don't know if she's not drinking purely because she isn't hungry right now, has teeth issues or has tummy ache from having a little baby rice last night - don't think that's the problem tho - think she wanted my hotdog earlier instead lol. She is fine in herself is happily playing on her playgym.

Sorelip Great that Ellis liked a carrot stick.

I put the puree I made into the freezer in tommee tippee explorer pots.

KateM77 · 19/04/2012 19:11

Gee I'd never heard of slapped cheek. Had to go and google it after seeing your post! Fortunately whatever the rash is, it's calmed down a lot today, so no GP visit required.

As predicted, after 3 nights of sleeping through, DS woke for a 4am feed last night. I can't complain about that though.

BJR have another for the coolbox

jiggle well done on putting the mat clothes on ebay. I too am certain I'm stopping at 2, but wimped out and put the clothes in the loft for now just in case

My task for this evening is to make little cakes and stick Timmy Time rice paper thingies on top. My sister is making DD a proper Timmy birthday cake for when we have a family birthday tea on Sat. I can't wait to see it. DSis got all the creative genes in our family and does the most amazing cake decorations.

seven77 · 19/04/2012 19:11

Ello', only just managed to get to the new thread!

Eva had her hospital check-up yesterday and her heart murmur has gone, and she rolled from her back to her front today, so she can now both ways! And we discovered that useless GOSH failed to tell us that the neuromuscular team DS was going to see at Addenbrookes do an outreach clinic at our local hospital which is less than an hour away.

It amuses me how HV's seem to think we need their permission before we can start weaning. I'm thinking I might try again tomorrow, she's finished all of her bottles today and been screaming for them earlier than usual.

DeterminedandSpecialMum · 19/04/2012 19:58

Well figured it was Sky's teeth gave her some Teetha and sand twinkle twinkle which calmed her down and she has drank the rest of her bottle. will try and get the next one into her by 9pm and see how long that takes her.

OiMissus · 19/04/2012 20:35

BJR I'm so glad that LO is getting good care. I've never quite forgiven myself, tormented by "if", so I had to tell you my experience. Am relieved all is well. (Apart from the daft DP). X
We've cancelled the theatre tomorrow and sold the tix. Ali is refusing to take a bottle, so I can't leave him.
...dinner's ready. Will post more about this later...

Figgygal · 19/04/2012 20:47

Cripes I had a keep in touch day at work today and look at all I've missed. I have to say I enjoyed being at work today loved catching up with people we discussed responsibilities on my return and some exciting prospects on the way can't believe am back properly in 8wks!!! I didn't feel bad leaving him with PIL though dh called about half an hour after i left the house before he took him to pil to say he'd been screaming since I left and what should he do Hmm. When the childminder came round last night to sign contracts he cried when she picked him up and that's the third time this week he's done that with people so I think going to childcare sooner rather than later will be better for him.

On 2 worrying notes went to pick up lo from PIL and my car started smoking from under the bonnet Sad luckily it was 2 mins from their house so got there rather than be stuck on M5 on way from work or worse on way home with lo in car. Waited almost 2hrs for rescue to tow it to garage. Other concern is lo hasn't pooed since Tuesday he is usually a strict 1 a day goer any suggestions?

OiMissus · 19/04/2012 21:21

figgy don't worry about the lack of poop. Just have a plastic bag ready and clean clothes for when the poosplosion comes. Smile you can try to gently massage his tummy, making clockwise circles if he seems in discomfort. But he's probably just saving it up for effect!
Ok, so I was given 2 bottles free during pregnancy (Phillips avent and Breastflow). LO has used them both a few times with expressed breast milk and with the Aptimil cartons, and cow n gate bottles from the hospital. The last time he happily took bottles was from 7 -9th March, when I was working and he was with GPs.
A couple of weeks ago LO was with GPs again whilst I had my mortgage appt. It went on longer than expected, so mum bought a bottle and some aptimil powder formula and LO went crazy and wouldn't take it. Since then we've tried the 2 bottles, plus some Tommee Tippees with size 1 and 2 teats, with ebm, cartons and powder. No luck. Same story today at nursery. Sad
So tonight I've bought the all-new innovation from Medela, the Calma, which has to be sucked exactly like a nipple. And some tippy cups. He didn't take milk from the Calma, but didn't hate it. Instead he just chewed it. The tippy cup poured too fast, he didn't like it. I think we might get there with the Calma. But not in time to be confident to leave him with friends tomorrow night.
Really got to try to get him drinking from a bottle for my return to work on Monday. (I can work around it, if he doesn't, -we'll get there. Smile). Sorry, monster post!

MissRee · 19/04/2012 22:15

So we didn't go visiting at the hospital today. I called the ward she's on and they said that although they wouldn't stop me from coming in, they strongly advise against bringing small babies on the ward due to risk of infection (both baby and patients). Friend was very understanding (although I felt terrible for cancelling) and I've said I'll go see her when she's home.

Freya has been a whingebag today, dribbling loads and chewing her fists like her life depended on it. We also had a humongous very wet and runny poo so I thing maybe it's the dreaded teethypegs.

I gave her a weaning spoon to play with today (thanks Asda!) and she was fascinated by it! She even fell asleep clutching it at one point Grin

aethelfleda · 19/04/2012 22:28

DS had a rather teethy day again...but is now filling asleep in the moses basket.
DH had killer day at work and still not home. I'm off to bedski, see you later!
