reastie · 04/11/2011 11:05

Thanks for thread choc . Good title. Can't believe we finished the old one before jane got married - bet we finish this one before christmas or will everyone dessert me once they're back at work next week

Another food related question for you - I know you all say it doesn't matter how much/little they eat, but can I run by what Alice eats so you can tell me if this is OK or if I give her too much. This is an example of her diet of what she actually eats (not what she throws on the floor)

7am - bf
8:30ish - up to 1 baby weetabix with formula and half a fruit pot mixed together
10:30 - 3 rice cakes and a fruit fromage frais
12:30 - 1/2 - 3/4 ish of a ramekin of pureed veg/lentils, 1/2 - 3/4 fruit pot, 1/3 rusk
3:00 - bf
5:30 - 2 organix crisps, up to 1 ramekin of macaroni cheese with tuna and veg pureed, baby porridge with fruit (up to 1 ramekin)
7:30pm - bf
9:30pm - dream feed

Just feels like I give her alot - I keep going till she won't eat anymore - is this the right tactic or should I stop before then?

Deliaskis · 04/11/2011 11:50

Hello new thread! Thanks for starting choc .

reastie I know what you mean about food because I know we're not suppsoed to worry about what they eat, but sometimes I do think C is eating rather a lot.

I suppose the times when it sort of bothers me are where she eats more than what I would think I would eat, e.g. at breakfast, I often have one poached egg and one piece of toast, and if C has the same, but wants more, like loads more, is that OK? Actually it's mainly breakfast where this comes up as obviously at other meals she eats significantly less than a bigger child or an adult would!

So no idea on an answer to your question, but I had been wondering that too.

From what you have outlined, it looks like A is having maybe 20% more than C, so not loads more (and C is v petite), and C's appetite has gone up loads lately so we are increasing.

I think on the whole, if weight seems about right, then I wouldn't worry too much, at least I am trying not to Confused !

Dx

reastie · 04/11/2011 11:56

this is it you see d - alice is looking quite chubby these days Hmm . I keep telling myself maybe she needs more energy to crawl [hopeful] . I agree with you though - some of the things she eats seem more child size than baby size. She was weighed about a month ago and was a bit higher on the centiles but they said they wern't worried. I guess we shall see how she is when I next get the chubster weighed. I was thinking about the ramekin portions and I think if anything I underestimated Shock

Alice driving me mad today - just crawling to everything she shouldn't and not wanting to play with her toys and just whining when I don't let her play with the sharp/electrical objects she dashes to Confused . And we missed our baby class too as she was sleeping and I was cleaning and didn't see the time :(

americanexpat · 04/11/2011 12:08

reastie - I think most babies eat what they need at this age so try not to worry. I think it's also normal for babies/children to go through chubby phases before they grow into their weight. As long as she's eating healthy food, it should be fine.

I tidied up L's toys so I could hoover and he's chucked them all over again. Still haven't hoovered. Hmm

Deliaskis · 04/11/2011 12:15

I find it's easy to tell and to stop when C is getting full as she does have very definite signals, but like you, I struggle to know whether to stop when she is not giving any of her 'nearly full' signals, but I think she has probably had an appropriate amount, as e.g. surely it's not right that my 8mo daughter eats more for breakfast than me (and I do love breakfast, never miss it, it's just small)?

I also wonder how much I might be projecting my own weight issues onto the dilemma (I don't mean onto C, I mean onto how I look at the dilemma), as portion size has always been my main weight issue.

Hello chums

Lovely new thread, but choc what's a man flunk? I like the sound of it!

Thank you so much for all the lovely birthday wishes, it was nice to finally find out about my secret twin mrledkr. We had a nice day, DH drove me out to the countryside and had booked a surprise massage for me in a hotel - thank goodness I had shaved my legs for baby swimming. We managed to go out for dinner too with the PILS babysitting N who remained awake for them until we got back at 1030.

Really can't remember what else I just read on the last thread, my memory is rubbish! Remember seeing some beautiful photos of leo, claudia and the wiggles girls I think, so cute.

reastie Nate sometimes has what you wrote for Alice but then will go a few days without eating anything at all Confused, he usually has maybe half that. He's a weedy spindly legged titch though, I would like him to eat more. He only wanted to feed himself at first, then wanted to be spoonfed so I cooked and froze loads of stuff and bought lots of Plum pots, now guess what - we hate spoons again. Aaargh!

WeAreBorg · 04/11/2011 12:32

I would keep feeding them until they don't want any. N usually keeps his mouth shut and shakes his head and chucks his plate on the floor and grabs the spoons off me and uses them as drum sticks
Speaking of lunch going to make some pasta for his highness, then off to his yoga class in the afternoon.

Oh I nearly forgot the exciting news............

WeAreBorg · 04/11/2011 12:33

............our new waitrose is open!!! delia this message is just for you.

reastie · 04/11/2011 12:44

ahh you see d alice just makes grunts all through her meal - it's the same grunt for 'water' 'more food' 'don't like this' and 'that's enough' so I never know what she wants or whether she's nearly full without her refusing to eat anymore Hmm

reastie · 04/11/2011 12:46

xposted borg we have a newly done out waitrose here too Grin

ILovePonyo · 04/11/2011 12:49

Marking my place - back later! Like the title choco Grin

WanderingSheep · 04/11/2011 12:51

Yay, new thread!

Hello

It took me ages to catch up and now I've forgotten what the old thread said Hmm

Reastie I wouldn't worry about giving Alice too much. My HV said that babies tend to just take what they need, whereas adults might eat a full meal feel full but still have dessert just for the hell of it.

Gorgeous pictures of Alice! I love the top black and white one she looks beautiful, she looks like she's deep in thought about something Grin Tge captions you have written made me Grin

Happy belated birthday Borg hope you had a lovely time!

Delia and Byronic lovely pics!

byron don't worry about K not eating as much. It may well be his teeth, I think the most important thing is his milk so as long as he's having milk then he'll be fine. They take what they need so he'll not let himself starve. I think even as adults we have days where we don't eat much and then we'll have a pig out another day Grin

janedoe25 · 04/11/2011 13:37

Happy new thread!

I can't believe we finished the last thread before I get hitched, only 2 more weeks arrrrghh!

just marking my place, catch up later. Grin

debka · 04/11/2011 13:40

Hello everyone!!

reastie just let her eat as much as she wants- believe me, in two years you will be wondering how to get her to eat half as much as she eats now! FRET NOT!! S eats more than that most days so if A is overeating then so is S :) BTW has HV rung back yet?

choc glad the ear's a bit better. Am also a little Hmm at man flunk Grin

borg Envy at Waitrose

I think S just about crawled this morning, she cries the whole time she's doing it though! She's got another tooth as well, a canine i think, she might have 6 or even 8 but she won't let me near! She's sleeping like there's no tomorrow ATM (Hmm), 1.5hrs this am, 2 hrs so far at lunchtime today, and she'll have another this afternoon on the way back from the pool.

Anyone doing anything for bonfire night? We've got sparklers and the family coming over tonight, I've made a massive pot of chilli and an apple crumble and stocked up on plastic spoons and bowls Grin

Deliaskis · 04/11/2011 13:41

Borg I am v excited for you in a vicarious kind of way, about your new waitrose. Had a dilemma today, it being Friday, tis normally Friday lunch club at the pub or similar, yet my beeyootiful brie and pate from waitrose was calling me from the fridge....twas a real dilemma.

I went out in the end, I can take my spoils home.

D

WanderingSheep · 04/11/2011 13:56

We don't have a Waitrose here. Is it good? Our nearest one is about 22 miles away Hmm

L can sort of crawl but she seems to lazy to get going. She drags herself around on her tummy and cries while she's doing it!

WanderingSheep · 04/11/2011 14:00

Deb we're going to a big local park that does a firework display with a fairground every year. We're undecided whether to make our own big pot of chilli and invite friends round afterwards or eat out Hmm

ledkr · 04/11/2011 14:03

I went to waitrose yesterdayb cos i used the car park for the drs.
I just dont get it Hmm
Does one have to wear a horsey gillet and boots to shop there or be around 98?
I do not wish to spend 5 pounds on some baby socks or 12 on tights.I also do not want to pay double the price for ready break or tea bags.Thought the fruit and veg was a bit rank too.
I did however appreciate the humour in the fact they promote things as being the same price as other supermarkets and not cheaper Grin

Ours has a lloyds chemist in it and the baby wipes were a pound but the same ones were 2.29 in the store itself haha.

Dilly doesnt eat a lot still. Those cow and gate trays she will struggle to eat a third and then half a fromage frais.Mostly eats about 3 spoons of breakfast and maybe a slice of bread, cheese and banana for lunch with a ff if im lucky.
Tis a nightmare but she has lots of bottles too.

Im not going to fret untill after her surgery.

She has just enjoyed some cous cous and fish which i saved from dinner yesterday but just a few mouthfulls and half a ff.

I give up.

Deliaskis · 04/11/2011 14:09

wandering it's not that it's amazing per se, it's that I was ueber excited about getting one in the town I work in, as was bored of the choice of butty bar one or butty bar two, so having a choice of 5 kinds of brie and 7 kinds of houmous (sp?) to choose from for lunch was really rather spesh.

Wouldn't actually do my weekly shop there I don't think, on account of not being loaded enough.

D

40Weeks · 04/11/2011 16:48

Hello girls

Hope you are all well. Have been busy the last few days and haven't had a chance to post. Just marking my place til I can catch up

tadjennyp · 04/11/2011 17:45

I wouldn't worry about A's eating, reastie, they tend to lose the chubbiness once they get really mobile anyway.

Your birthday sounds lovely Borg! Where is your Waitrose btw? Is it at the top end of Newcastle, because if so my ILs will be enthusing about it on skype this weekend. Smile They live quite near Berwick and MIL has come out with the immortal line, 'I only shop at John Lewis.' Hmm My Dad works at the one in Lincoln so he gets 25% discount and it makes it affordable again! Grin

Not long now till Jane's wedding or Dilly's op. The year is flying by. I can't believe S is 9 months old tomorrow! He's been out longer than he was in Grin

Hope you all have a lovely bonfire night. Might make some flapjack.

Oh and well done reastie for being in the talk round up!

byronicheroine · 04/11/2011 18:12

tad you beat me to it to congratulate reastie - biscuits!!

Marking place as just been to the next sale and I need to admire my purchases (I got excited about a Next here, I think I would pass out if Waitrose made an appearance fat chance )

tadjennyp · 04/11/2011 18:22

I can get some Boots and Cherokee stuff at Target and a bit of George in Walmart, but that's about it. Next and M&S deliver here though. Have fun with your new purchases!

ledkr · 04/11/2011 18:55

reastie have you seen in the news that nhs fat fighters aint as good as ww and sw.I should bloody think so too cos you are allowed bacon and egg on sw and ww not a fecking banana and monkey crackers Hmm

Ive been good today but about to blow it on a curry, but is homemade and i a have brown rice and no poppas.
I had to have one glass of pinot blush due to stressfull day.Visited nan attended Ellas pirate assembly and then did the dancing run all whilst carrying Dilly in a sling Shock

Best part of the day is meeting Ellas new headmaster and realising hes one of my old drinking buddies Grin I feel extra lessons coming on and a front seat at all the school plays.

NeedToCreepZZZ · 04/11/2011 19:26

Hello all,
Sorry for my absence, I have a note somewhere to excuse me...

ledkr I really like you're description of waitrose only because we don't have one and couldn't afford it anyway. I'm surprised you're not a size zero with all that running around, you've worn me out just thinking about it!

reastie I heard the stuff about sw and ww being more effective than nhs ff today then read your post about the banana for breakfast, is it any wonder?

Have had a bit of a rubbish time tbh lately, have cancelled the wedding and oh is still living here by the skin of his teeth. Long story but we are trying to work it out and he has made the first steps to stopping drinking. Really dont know if I've made the right decision in giving him another chance but feel if he's prepared to put the work in then I have to. My friend in the hospice died yesterday and feel quite happy for him, was with him the evening before and no one deserves to be like that, i am very pro euthanasia. Sorry, miserable post.

I hope everyone is looking forward to the weekend, I'm going to see 'kevin' on Sunday which should be good. Oh, and Ben is now crawling, clapping and biting everyone (including himself?!) so things just got serious!

I have read everything but not enough time to post to all but love to everyone x
