nhs fat fighters this morning. It was truly hilarious - the people on the course were all very odd oldies (except me obv). I kept thinking I wish ledkr was on the course with me as she'd keep me entertained. there was even the token indian lady with accent to confuse the course leader a la little britain. the kind of group you could write a comedy novel on and people wouldn't believe the characters existed IYKWIM Grin

byronicheroine · 14/09/2011 15:46

Glad evryone's feeling better after various lurgies.

Reastie did you take A with you? What did the strange oldies make of her and what did she make of them?

wiggles wow leggy lady you have. I'll get the tape measure out. We've been in 9-12 mnth clothes for a while now so you could have competition.

I went to a group yesterday and there was a woman there with twins. She picked up K after watching me chase him for hours and said "god, how do you do it??" and I was Shock cos, well, she had 3 month old twins and I was just thinking 'how do YOU do it!'

tad it's low 30s here finally, so it feels all fresh!! Can't wait for autumn proper and maybe a little rain..... Sorry everyone else.

ponyo also walking a lot here- well down to the starbucks to get my chocolate ice fix :)

chocoroo · 14/09/2011 20:52

Still feeling pants here. Am calling in the PIL as reinforcements tomorrow so I can try and get well - R is bound to come down with this so I need to try and get better so I can look after her.

So just a quick one to say deb let me know if you come to Cadbury World. I live a ten minute walk away!

debka · 14/09/2011 21:05

Oooo choc will definitely do that!! It'll be right at the end of October on the way to a show in Cheshire. Hope you're on the mend soon.

Just watched the Bake Off from last night, glad Rob's gone at last.

reastie · 14/09/2011 21:19

cadbury world??? Maybe that's where we should do our meet up Grin

choc hope you feel on top form soon and sleep well tonight

I went to hobbyworld this afternoon Grin and accidentally shoplifted a pack of ribbon Blush Shock . I didn't realise until it was too late and I'm now wondering if I should go back and pay the £1.04 it's worth Confused [guilt] . wiggles and ledkr please don't set your dhs on me Shock

wigglesrock · 14/09/2011 21:32

reastie tut, tut, is the shop miles away?

debka meant to ask how is Imys potty training going?

chocoroo hope you start to feel better soon.

reastie · 14/09/2011 21:37

it's about 15/20 mins drive away Hmm . Maybe I should just give the money to charity and save the petrol

wigglesrock · 14/09/2011 21:41

reastie Yup stick it in the poor box as my Granny would say Grin I always worry when I am honest about mistakes in change etc especially after I've left the shop, would it cause more trouble to the cashier/assistant if I brought someones attention to a mistake. Did you get anywhere re childcare when you head back to work?

reastie · 14/09/2011 21:49

yes we have potential breakthrough - my mum will help out a little more and dh is considering taking half a day off a week so mil will be in charge of only one morning a week (but up to 1.5 days when dh/dm can't), which I think I can deal with Grin

wigglesrock · 14/09/2011 21:53

Great, must be a relief to have it sort of sorted out Grin When are you heading back?

reastie · 14/09/2011 22:04

well, not all sorted but crossing fingers. Am back in december, which I know is still a way away get, but I feel really gulp about it, but then I guess everyone does?????

americanexpat · 15/09/2011 10:20

reastie - I'm dreading the change the most. I know it'll be fine going back to work but the first day of putting him in nursery is going to be horrible. What does the fat fighters class do?

wiggles - happy 7 month birthday to A. :)

jane - I'm close enough to gate crash, best not post too many location/time details. Grin

L's first tooth finally came through Tuesday, he slept through (!!) Tuesday night and now he apparently has his first cold. He's a bit snotty and snuffly, is there anything I should do or just leave him to get on with it? He woke screaming at midnight last night and couldn't be comforted, wouldn't eat. He slept with me for a while then DH managed to get him to sleep in his cot around 1:30.

janedoe25 · 15/09/2011 11:42

american Yay for L's tooth! Have you tried a snot sucker thing? Also try karvol drops or baby olbas on muslin near him in his cot? Hope he feels better soon. Im getting married near Stirling, not too far away from you Grin

wigglesrock · 15/09/2011 12:09

americanexpat many thanks, same to Leo Grin We are celebrating by having a go at breaking the world record of not sleeping Shock Been up from about 3am, with two dozes on the school run - A not me Grin She's a bit grumpy and nothing would settle her last night, not even sleeping on me!

Congrats on Ls tooth, A has some under the gums but not holding my breath, she's also slightly off her food!! Second Janes Karvol recommendations.

jane Hows the plans coming along? All done Grin

janedoe25 · 15/09/2011 13:06

wiggles Hmm at Anna, hope she is ok and that you dont nap on the school run! Pfft plans not comming along, got so much to do and not enough time/money - seriously getting worried now!

debka · 15/09/2011 14:41

Hey folks,

wiggles how are you still functioning??? Shock

jane I remember being at that point when I got married, was quietly relieved when it was all over.

wiggles potty training has gone a treat. No nappies any more except at bedtime. She has the odd accident, maybe one a day, normally when she's busy doing something or doesn't quite reach the potty in time. Nappy washing has gone down to 2x a week, little girl clothes washing is now about every other day Grin. My biggest issue is how to wean her off the sweetie she gets every time she does a wee or poo on the potty. Any suggestions??

DH is up in Loughborough today so we're having a lovely horrible day on our own. I tried to convince him to stay overnight so I could enjoy a snore-free night but no, he wants to be here with his girls.

Bean is having a sleepathon today. Slept in till 8 this morning Shock (sorry wiggles), slept 10-11.45 and has been in bed for the last hour too!

reastie I can kind of understand where your DH is coming from with this nursery issue. I put S in creche at church on Sunday and she HATED it, she was obviously distressed when I picked her up when they called me after about 30 mins. Plus I saw a thing on the BBC about how children in daycare have higher levels of the stress hormone cortisol. Now I am not at all judging people who do have their kids in nursery- it is a necessity for most people I know, and most children really enjoy it and gain a lot from it. However I can see the downsides for sure, and although I'd put Imy in in a heartbeat, I would think very carefully before leaving S after what happened on Sunday.

NeedToSleepZZZ · 15/09/2011 14:48

hello there, feels like weeks since i last posted!

had a quick catch up and a Grin at ledkr's god story!

choc i hope you're resting and feeling better.

expat the karvol worked for b but i hated the smell of it. congrats on tooth btw!

jane i'm very disappointed in your choice of hen do, didn't the pink ladies one inspire you?Wink Grin Seriously, i don't think i'll have one at all at this rate as i can't function if i go to bed too late [grumpy old woman emoticon]

wiggs sending you good sleep vibes.... but not on the school run Wink Brilliant news about O being so intelligent, I expect she gets it from her mother!

I finally found a chemist that had ashton and parsons in stock, well they did until i bought the lot Grin it's the only thing that works and i have now tried all of them!

Has anyone else got a secret crawler? I found B crawling the other morning in his cot and then yesterday he did it for a few seconds then stopped. I swear he doesn't want me to know he can do it Wink plus the fact that he seems very lazy, preferring to drag things to him or carpet surfing (body on changing mat, arms pulling himself across the floor) Hmm

NeedToSleepZZZ · 15/09/2011 14:50

ooh, x posted..

well done imy with potty training and Bean with sleeping, sounds like you have a happy house deb

wigglesrock · 15/09/2011 15:02

debka how am I still functioning? - practice Grin Well done you Imy!

Anna has been asleep for the past hour but she looks completely out for the count! Have to get her up in about 30 mins to get S - she is at Irish dancing after school.

May have to rethink Os genius status - she spent most of yesterday afternoon - scratching her bum and watching Bubble Guppies - pup out of her Dad Grin She isn't very well, loaded with the cold and very hot Sad. She is a menace when she's ill - Sofia likes to lie on the sofa, like a heroine out of a Jane Austen book with consumption, but O just keeps on going louder and faster until she actually can't do anymore.

NeedToSleep well done on the powders - I haven't been able to get Ashtons for ages, was actually talking to my neighbour about it - such an exciting life I lead Hmm I think A is crawling in her cot too, we have wooden floors downstairs and its much harder for her to get a grip!

jane I remember my sisters wedding plans going like that - great guns at the start, then a big lull, then madness for the last 10 days or so!!

NeedToSleepZZZ · 15/09/2011 15:33

wiggs apparently there was some break down of machinery at the a&p factory which is why they're impossible to find but they're on their way back now thank god!

reastie · 15/09/2011 19:18

hello all

deb I completely understand what you mean re: nursery. The thing is it seems some babies love it and some hate it, it's difficult to know until they go (IM very limited O) which way they will go.

choc how are you?

needto Grin to secret crawler. Maybe he jumps out of his cot and crawls all over the flat at night when you don't know Wink . DH excitedly exclaimed earlier 'she crawled she crawled' to me but it transpired it was just half a bum cheeks worth of near crawling Confused . DH seemed mighty impressed anyway. Does anyone know if babies understand what mummy and daddy is yet? It's just yesterday my Mum said to Alice 'where's Mummy?' and she straight away moved her head and stared right at me, she did a similar thing for 'where's daddy?' today. We are wondering if it's coincidence or if she can understand our names Hmm

wiggles is Anna getting Os bug? Just thought then at least you could account for lack of sleep.

american fat fighters (OK, so it's not actually called that in RL Blush ) is just an NHS run weight watchers type of thing. I love how she was teaching us all about the eatwell plate, which is exactly what I have to teach year 7 at school Blush Shock Grin . I was a right boff and knew all the answers but was too shy to look like a teachers pet and say them Blush Maybe I'm the irritating Monica from Friends esque one in the group - I'll be asking for extra work and a test next week Wink

Oh, and american the saline nose spray works quite well IME. I can't get the snot suckers in alices nose long enough to use them Confused

Went to poundland today and stocked up on those cover everything bibs Grin

debka · 15/09/2011 19:28

reastie I don't think it was coincidence, I'm sure Imy was about this age when she started recognising words. S gets excited when she sees her bowl or my boobs- do you think that counts? Grin

V impressed at all the furtive crawlers. S squawks whenever I put her on her front. She is trying to pull herself up though.

I'm enjoying my DH free evening, just made chocolate fudge sauce and got the ice cream out of the freezer Blush what a glam life I have Grin

needto that's weird about the powders!

wiggles poor you and Olivia, hope she gets better soon.

OP posts:
reastie · 15/09/2011 19:44

deb that's interesting Hmm . alice defo knows when she's going to be fed and always starts grinning when i push her in her buggy towards the front door like she's really excited as we are just about to go out Grin .

ILovePonyo · 15/09/2011 20:42

Hello all,

reastie I don't know if A knows mummy and daddy but she knows her own name now! (have all the other babies been doing that for ages?!) Forgot to say I loved your description of fat fighters, very funny :)

Where is Borg I want to know what happened Grin

wiggles This may be rubbish but I think I saw a thread on mn ages ago about babies that were/are crappy sleepers being v intelligent - this may be to make tired parents feel better but thought it was interesting! Ooh and I'm glad you said about the killing's red herring, knew it wouldn't be that simple...

Needto Grin at secret crawling

Hello everyone else, am off to my mums tomo for the weekend and got lots of packing to do so need to get off the internet!

Quick update tho - dd was wide awake at 4am for an hour last night Confused Then up for the day at 6, yawn. Saw MizK today and C put A to shame with her crawling, very cute :) She has photographic evidence of them together too in case anyone thinks we're fibbing Grin
