Hope all goes well Dixiebell!

Luke does very well with his too saoirse86, but he also likes to shake it which usually ends up with him dropping it upside down and being soaking wet!!! He is bf so I think it just depends on the baby, ds1 was rubbish took him ages to get the hang of it.

Have fun JodeyBogeyPicker, I'm sure you'll have a great time! A whole nights sleep would be lovely, although Luke slept 12.30 until 6.30 without a feed last night Grin.

Looks like we're not going anywhere now, by the time I had done my chores, eaten and got us all ready Luke had fallen asleep and he usually sleeps for 2-3hrs now. The weather is so horrible, Ds1 wants to stay home and I'd rather let Luke sleep, so it looks like more lazing around and maybe making something out of ds1's I Can Cook recipe book. DH should be home at 3ish so maybe we'll venture out then for an hour or so.

lumpybananapuree · 19/02/2011 13:16

I'm childless! They've gone to my parents for the night! I've done the ironing. Think i'll have a bath then a snooze. Ahhhhhhhhhhh! peace!

Debs75 · 19/02/2011 14:26

god this weather is dreadful, it is raining and cold, shouldn't complain though as some of my friends have had snow.

DD1 and DS are off school for the week now so am hoping for some lie-insHmm I think Lucy might have something to say about that.

Jodey enjoy your spa break, and take a long stick to poke your sis if she keeps you up snoring.
We have decided that for my 40th (5 years away) we will go away for a night or 2. By then DD2 and Lucy should be able to get themselves to sleep on a night.

we are slowing on the weaning, Lucy is just not bothered at all. She likes to hold the food but she isn't keen on putting it in her mouth.

Dixiebell · 19/02/2011 18:40

So the bottle feeding didn't go well at all. In fact, I did my shopping really quickly so met DH and Arlo for lunch, but when DH tried to feed him he just kept crying so we resorted to BFing. Thought it was maybe too noisy, or milk too cold, or teat too fast so tried again at hone with warmed milk and slow teat and still no. Even cried at the bottle he drank from before. Really upset me actually as we ended up tipping away 8oz of breastmilk which will take me 4 days to make up again as expressing just seems really slow atm. And have another 7oz defrosting in the fridge which we optimistically thought we'd give him tonight. Seems such a waste when I've sat there for hours pumping it. Also makes me feel kinda trapped, was looking forward to happily being able to leave him with DH when necessary. Argh! Will try again tomorrow, but until he can manage it I'm only going to defrost small amounts!!

JodeyBogeyPicker · 19/02/2011 19:38

Dixi, poor you! That must have been really frustrating. Have you tried feeding him little amount from a sipping cup? This might get him used to having little bits of your milk not from you and gradually build up the amount. Worth a try. Fingers crossed for you x

cinnamon, great that Luke slept through. Hopefully this is a taste of whats to come from now on. Hope he does the same tonight.

Debs defo liking the stick idea though I'm not sure sis would approve Grin.

Right, for those of you weaning, I tried potaoe and swede tonight but Harlyn didn't like it. I'm not sure if it was the taste or the fact that it wasn't a completely smooth puree. It had tiny little lumps in it which I just couldn't get rid of. Anyone got any miracle ways of getting a smoother potatoe puree texture? Also, should I be waiting till he's 7 months before trying finger foods????

Harlyn 20 wks +1

MammyG · 19/02/2011 20:34

Jodey Personally I would wait another while for finger foods. I also read somewhere that potatoe and a few other foods dont blend well so you need a mouli (?) I had never heard of one!
Dixie good luck with the next attempt. Maybe it he was just in funny form.
banana they only thing left is to drill into your DC to glare at her and tell her quite loudly 'I dont like that and I dont want to play with you if you are going to hurt me' Then have him walk away from her and stay by you. I encourage kids at school to do this (express how other make them feel) and it works wonders! When they realise their peers will not play with them unless they treat them properly they tend to try better.

Ok Im still tired! Its not Phoebe her routine hasnt changed but I am exhausted! And I am eating for ireland! Whats that about!!!

cinnamongreyhound · 19/02/2011 21:14

Dixiebell have you tried while you're not in the room? Neither of mine have ever had a bottle while I was within their sight. Definitely agree about smaller amounts while he's not taking a bottle regularly. Some babies just take more effort to take a bottle and if he knows youre there to give him exactly what he wants it may be more difficult. I know it can seem like you're abandoning you oh at a difficult time but if you explain why it might be worth a try.

As far as I know a mouli is only for things like peas and sweetcorn that have tough bits MammyG. I used to blend potato with my hand blender and some of my milk JodeyBogeyPicker to make it really smooth. Ds1 didn't like lumps until about 7 months but I have only been mashing Luke's food with a fork and he's fine with it so maybe it depends on the baby. Ds1 hates mashed potato and it is quite a funny texture for some perhaps try sweet potato next time. We have Luke broccoli and potato pieces tonight whole we ate our tea and he had a chomp but just watch very closely as ds1 choked on toast at 6 1/2 months :(

Not pregnant are you MammyG?!? Wink

Dixiebell · 19/02/2011 22:39

Jodey we tried him with a zippy beaker thing first, and that didn't work. cinnamon, will try going out of room too! The frustrating thing is he did take a few ounces from a bottle a couple of weeks back, happily, so I thought it'd be fine today. Oh well.

Annabel karmel says to use a mouli for potato as it goes too starchy if you blend it. No solids here yet (and after today I fear that might be a challenge!), but I've read the book!

mammyg, my first thought was preggers too!

Dixiebell · 19/02/2011 22:42

Sippy beaker!

Oh and meant to say, been doing naked tummy time recently (Arlo, not me!), and he is so much happier, better able to push himself up and roll over than when clothed (usually hates it). What's that about? Must be a freeing sensation to be out of nappy!

cinnamongreyhound · 19/02/2011 23:20

Luke loves being naked Dixiebell, think he gets it from dh who is always in as little as possible! Never bothered having time without nappy with ds1 but I always try to give Luke 10-15 mins without a nappy at some point of the day as it clearly makes him so happy. Never put him on his tummy though, it is the closest he come to rolling over too. I obviously didn't read annabel karmel's book properly Blush. Try not to worry about weaning, might be just what Arlo needs to get him to take a bottle. I was getting a bit stressed when Luke wouldn't eat but it's so much fun to watch their little faces enjoying food it should be a good time.

Just up now so not hopeful he'll go throughout until 6.30 again, oh well!

FriggFRIGG · 19/02/2011 23:24

mammyG i thought pregnant to....

Arlo's first (and only so far) food was a stem of broccoli its great finger food as the top just breaks into tiny pieces and they can chomp on the stalk like a teether.

dixie it's so rubbish,im afraid to say that happened every time i tryed DD with a bottle,i didnt get morte than an hour or two away from her until i stopped BFing at 18 months. but she was a very difficult baby in genral,so id say to defrost very small amounts at a time, you leave the house so you are'nt anywhere near, but he is somewhere familiar.make sure who ever is feeding him is very relaxed about it,let him have a chew on the teat, and repeat often, without forcing the issue.THT. Smile

24 weeks and a few days ...Confused

comixminx · 20/02/2011 03:58

Up for the second time tonight - I've got a bit of a dry throat myself and she sounds like her nose is dry so that can't help (it's not that the air in our room is drying, I'm sure, just a low-level snuffle). Ah well.

Had a lovely afternoon round at a friend's housewarming party - they have three kids, two of which are still very small (3 and 5 or so) and one other couple also came with their kids (8 and 6 or so). The little kids played so beautifully with Aphra - they were gentle enough, and so interested in her tiny (compared to them) hands, toes, etc!

Having a baby with you really is a great way to make friends in the street too, isn't it? People keep coming up to me & asking about her / admiring her.

JessemyParkson · 20/02/2011 09:16

It's all dry throats in our house too.

I took Mary to my choir's first practice of the season, in London yesterday. She was so well behaved! [another proud mummy emoticon] :o

But when we got home she took ages to settle to bed, probably cos she slept so much in the car. Also, she picked last night to figure out how to roll front to back. So she was also unsettled because she's a front sleeper...! I had to feed her to sleep in the end, about 10pm. [exasperated emoticon]

Off to church in a bit and then to MIL's for lunch so wishing a happy Sunday to all Wink x

lumpybananapuree · 20/02/2011 10:19

Mammy I like that suggestion. I hadn't thought of trying to get him to react in a negative way, rather that her getting the naughy step type punishment. Worth a go!

Jodey I gave Olly them at 22 weeks. He was fine & now happily munches away on breadsticks!

Well, I've finally decided I can't be doing with going out drinking in town anymore. Not with the group of friends I used to anyway. None of them have children & I just hate it. I've tried a couple of times since olly was born but just find myself stood on my own thinking each round could buy clothes for the boys & having absolutely nothing to contribute to the conversation. We left before 11 lastnight & I just know they all thought I'm boring & stop dh having fun! Well, its true so in future, he'll just have to go without me!

comixminx · 20/02/2011 10:44

Another on the finger foods front - I didn't start the weaning as early as some of you guys but have now been giving Aphra something of a lead into BLW. Today she was really keen on the offerings of wee spoonfuls of muesli and toast from our bowls & plates!

lumpy, it does sound like you've not been having fun in your outings... how about dinner parties instead? less drinks-focused and more opportunity for a range of chat subjects, maybe.

saoirse86 · 20/02/2011 13:53

banana It's difficult with friends who don't have children isn't it?! Whenever I go out with friends I really feel like I haven't got much to say. It just feels like my life is very different to theirs now. Sometimes I feel a bit jealous about what they get up to, but I wouldn't give up Orlaith for the world Smile (Oh dear, I've just made myself feel a bit nauseous! Grin )

MammyG definitely preggers!! Wink Seriously though, is that a possibility for you?

Dixie I have no experience here but I hope you manage to work something out. You'd be very lucky for him to just take it and never complain and it's probably just going to take some time and perseverence mostly on your DH's part!

I'm really struggling with Orlaith's lack of sleeping ATM, I'm exhausted! I think it might be partly because she's got a bad cold (watery eyes, runny nose, lots of coughing and sneezing) and partly because of the feeing issue. She's well over 16lb now but she's still having about 25oz a day and 8-9oz of that is during the night. Obviously she needs those night feeds and I'd struggle to cut them out until she's feeding more in the day. She'll usually take 4oz in one go so I try to offer her more during a feed, or give her feeds more regularly but she just won't take it. Confused
Please someone reassure me that it will get better!

MammyG · 20/02/2011 15:04

Bite your collective tongues!! I absolutely cannot be pregnant ....ever again!!!
No dont think I am. Had period recently but (TMI sorry) seemed to go on for ages. Still quite mucousy. Anyone else the same? Maybe that is what is wrong that I am just have a very prolonged spell of pmt!
Actually so sure we dont have to another that DH is on the list for the snip! I dont think my sanity could stretch to a fourth and DH is positive thats it for him.
Got the forms on friday to enroll DS1 in school! Where did time go?

Saoirse Phoebe is the same weight and eating 3 meals a day. She generally has about 21oz a day. I dropped her feeds during the night a good few weeks ago but give her about 6oz between 11pm and midnight (whenever I am going to bed) and that takes her to 7am. Though I usually have to give her a soother at about 5.30am.

Now its getting close Im so Envy of those of you meeting up. I will be there is spirit!

cinnamongreyhound · 20/02/2011 20:55

I don't think it's being boring just your priorities change lumpybananapuree, personally I've never understood the go out and piss your money up the wall but that's just me. My parents drank a lot and I hated what it did to them, don't have any desire to be drunk and can think of much better things to spend money on even more so since having 2 children!

Not been in that situation saoirse86 but I be tempted to have one bad night giving her less milk in the hope that she'll take more the next day, that's probably terrible advice!

MammyG I have only had one period, still waiting for my second as they came back regular as clockwork straight away with ds1. It was pretty much as I remember from before Luke. Have had a day of terrible cramps yesterday which were quite like why I had 5 days before my last period but I have had a coil fitted and I'm not sure if that is having an affect. Have done ds1's school forms but won't hear until April of he's got a place in my chosen school. It's awful I really don't want him to go to school full time, can't believe he'll be 4 in 2 months :(

Had a lovely day at my mums despite her bizarre choice of food, te reason I can cook as well as I can as I had to learn at a young age!! The boys were so good and no one fell out about anything, hurray. Dh started telling me about a dream he had about dss and ended up in tears :( hate seeing him cry. We've had a deep conversation about what it all means and why he still thinks about why his ex treated him the way she did :( :(. He's now gone to walk the dog and I stuck my head out to see if he was on the way home and he's drinking beer out of a can while chatting to a drunken Lithuanian man in the street Confused. Sure he can handle himself but it's a bit worrying!

saoirse86 · 20/02/2011 21:28

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh my message just disappeared and I don't know why.

cinnamon I hope your DH is alright.

MammyG I've had loads of discharge too, I'm glad you asked about it.

cinnamon I've thought of not feeding her but she screams so much and so loudly, I'd feel so guilty for DP and the neighbours. MammyG I have thought she'll be better when she's on solids but I just don't want to wean her yet.

MammyG is it possible you could be pregnant though? You know the best form of contraception is abstinence?! Not as much fun though! Wink

JodeyBogeyPicker · 20/02/2011 22:21

Right, gona purchase a mouli thingy to mash up the huge amounts of potatoe I have cooked and frozen!! Early ish night for me now as got an early start for my spa break in the morning. Good new is Harlyn slept for a whole hour and a half in his pushchsir, in the kitchen with the extractor fan on and a blanket draped over blocking out the light. It's s miracle.

DH was supposed to look after bab today too with me supporting almost as a trial run for tomorrow! I constantly had to prompt when it was feed, change & nap time as he just got carried away doing his own thing. He told me that he didn't know how I managed to do this all week long as well as do cleaning, cooking and washing. Glad he now knows how hard & time consuming it can be sometimes.

Right I'll be back for a catch on Wednesday and look forward to seeing some of u Thursday xxx

sassy34264 · 20/02/2011 23:40

hi again. I am on dp's iPhone cos I can't sleep! I hate it as i am a fudge fingers and I delete mistakes a lot! Ha. Think I will have to do it more often though cos I am missing out on so much! And of course I miss you all. I'm on now really cos I have some BIG news. You will die of shock and probably think I am completely mad........I'm pregnant!!!!!!!!

sassy34264 · 20/02/2011 23:54

Posted that before I lost it. Apart from dp, you are the only people I have told, so I would appreciate it if no1 mentions it on fb . Thanks. My best friend lost her baby the day I told her I was pregnant last year and she has lost another one this week, when I find out again, so I,m gonna wait a while before I tell her, cos I think it will kill her. Also I am only 4 weeks and I think people are going 2 be less shocked I'm 3 months time!!!!!
I'm happy as larry about it, dp is happy too, but he does keep groaning and laughing when we talk about it!

I'm most concerned for my mum . She has told me that last year was the most stressful of her life (cos I had quite a few complications) and she fills in a bit of the gaps that dp leaves when he is away. Not sure if she will be mad/upset/disappointed. Also we are so so close . Do I give her 3 months off of stress or upset her by not telling her? Argh

I

sassy34264 · 21/02/2011 00:01

I will check in again tomorrow on dp iPhone as we are all staying with dp at his house in bath. I know it's to early 2 tell but I think this is a singleton pregnancy as I have no horrible symptoms yet and by this stage with Jacob and Isobel I was sick as a dog, 8 lbs heavier with ligament pains! Night. X

FriggFRIGG · 21/02/2011 00:25
